The Winter Woods was cold, but, it was a good thing Sonic wore the Kokiri snowsuit that Tinker Bell made for him. As Sonic travelled deeper into the wintery forest, he heard a scratching sound and looked up. There, walking upside-down on one of the bare tree branches, was a giant ghoma bug. "I think I've just found her," said Sonic bravely. He prepared himself as Queen Ghoma jumped down from the branch, but Sonic wasn't afraid because he remembered what Fawn told him. When her eye turns red, shoot it, then strike her with your sword when she's stunned. So, Sonic did. He took out his quill-sword, and, when Queen Ghoma's eye turned red, he shot it with the fairy slingshot he got from Tinker Bell to stun her. While she was stunned, Sonic struck her with his quill-sword over and over again until she was taken out. "That should fix that curse," said Sonic bravely. He was very proud of himself, because, that was a super-easy battle. Sonic was about to walk off when he spotted a blue portal. It was from the remains of the now-defeated Queen Ghoma, who was the cause of the curse of the tree. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the portal and was quickly taken back to the outside of the tree.

"Well done, Sonic," said the Deku Tree weakly. "I don't understand," said Sonic. "I made sure the curse was all gone. You should feel better now."

"Thou speak truth," said the tree. "I should feel better, but I was doomed before you started." Sonic was disappointed, but the tree told him that the evil man of the desert cast the curse on him. Even though Sonic's efforts were appreciated, he was indeed doomed before he started. All the fairies had to flee from Pixie Hollow, for the tree would soon pass away. When he did, the portal to Pixie Hollow will be closed. So, Tinker Bell built a magical door to keep the portal alive even when the tree wilts.

"Navi, thou must continue to guide Sonic in his quest…" said the Great Deku Tree. "Help carry out my wish… good… bye…"

And just like the that, the Great Deku Tree wilted. "Oh!" said Sonic in grief. "I know the tree said not to grieve for him, but-"

"It's okay, Sonic," said Navi. "The magic door Tinker Bell built will protect the portal, so it's safe, even though the tree is dead."

"I guess you're right," said Sonic, wiping away a tear. "Let's go."

Sonic and Navi ran through the Kokiri Forest where they saw Link. "What happened?" asked Link. "The Great Deku Tree, did he… die?"

Sonic nodded sadly.

"I'm so sorry," said Link. "It's okay," said Sonic. "Tinker Bell built a door, so the portal is still alive, even though the tree isn't."

"Oh, good," said Link. "So, what are you going to do now?"

"We're going to Hyrule Castle," said Sonic. "And I get to meet a princess! I'm so excited."

"Wow! I've never been to Hyrule," said Link. "Have fun!" And he waved them goodbye.

Sonic and Navi soon found the other tunnel which would take them to Hyrule Field that would lead to the castle. Halfway through the tunnel, they heard a familiar voice.

"Oh, you're leaving."

It was Saria. She was standing in the middle of the bridge that connects the two tunnels as Sonic approached her. "Oh, hi, Saria," he said. "Yes. I'm afraid I do have to go."

"Yeah," said Saria, offering a smile. "I knew you would leave the forest one day. But that's okay, because we'll be friends forever, won't we?"

"Of course, we will," said Sonic, putting a hand on her shoulder. They shared a hug. "Oh, Sonic," said Saria. "I have something for you." Carefully, she handed him a little instrument that looked as if it were part flute, part pitchpipe in a very funny shape, all carved out of wood. "What is that?" asked Sonic. "This is my fairy ocarina," said Saria. "I've treasured this thing since the day I was born, and now, I want you to have it, to remember me by."

Sonic examined the little instrument in his hands. "Oh, that's so sweet of you, Saria. Thank you. I will promise to take very good care of it."

"Goodbye, Sonic," said Saria as they shared one last hug. "And good luck."
