Sonic ran to Hyrule Castle with Navi on his shoulder. Just as he arrived at the castle, it closed because it was sunset. "No!" cried Sonic. He tried to grab the door but it was no use. Sonic gave a big sigh. When he looked around the field, he suddenly realized why the drawbridge closed. The sun was setting and he hadn't made it to the castle in time. "Oh, well," Sonic said, beginning to shiver because the night was a little chilly. "I'll just wait for the drawbridge to open up again in the morning." Sonic sat on the ground and leaned against the little stone barrier and closed his eyes. With Navi resting in his arms, he fell fast asleep.
The next morning, Sonic felt the sun on his face. He stretched and gave a big yawn. Getting to his feet, he saw the drawbridge come back down. "Alright!" Sonic cheered, jumping up and down. As soon as the drawbridge was all the way down, the little hedgehog raced inside.
Sonic found himself in a marketplace where lots of people were hanging around, shopping, dancing merrily to music that nearby musicians were playing or just relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. A little girl with red hair was nearby and smiled when she saw Sonic. When he came a little closer, she gave him a big wave. "Hello there," she said. "My name is Malon. I've never seen anything like you before." She looked at Navi who was sitting on Sonic's shoulder. "You're a hedgehog with a fairy sidekick," she said excitedly. "You must've come from a forest or something. You're clearly not from around here."
"No I'm not," said Sonic with a chuckle. "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog and this is my fairy partner, Navi."
"Pleased to meet you," said Malon. "Would you do me a favour and find my father? You see, he's the owner of Lon Lon Ranch and he was delivering milk to the royal family. Trouble is, he hasn't returned yet."
"If he was going to the castle, I'll look there first," said Sonic. "I was on my way there myself. I'm sure I can find him somewhere near the castle."
"Thank you," said Malon and Sonic zipped away.
When Sonic got to the castle, some guards pushed him away. As Sonic stumbled back, someone caught him. It was Malon. "Oh. Thanks, Malon," said Sonic. "Don't mention it," said Malon, helping the hedgehog steady himself. "I found something in the marketplace that might help you get past the guards. And she gave him a white cloak made entirely of chicken feathers. Curious, Sonic put the cloak on and as soon as he did, he turned invisible. "Whoa! What happened to me?" he asked in alarm.
"That's an invisibility cloak you're wearing," replied Malon. "When you wear it, you'll turn invisible and the guards won't see you. If you want to turn visible, you just take off the hood or the whole cloak." Sonic took the hood off his cloak and he was visible again. "That's better," he said. "Good luck, Sonic," said Malon as they parted ways. "Bye, Malon. Thanks!" called Sonic. He put the hood back on to turn invisible and was easily able to sneak past the guards. When he reached the castle, he could hear snoring. Sonic followed the sound to the back entrance of the castle where he found a sleeping man. "That must be Malon's dad," he said. Sonic took off the hood of his cloak and he was visible again. Then, he gently shook the man. "Wake up," said Sonic. The man slowly yawned and stretched. "Hello to you," he said. "And who might you be?"
"I'm Sonic," said the hedgehog. "Are you Malon's dad?"
"Yes I am," replied the man. "My name is Talon and I'm the owner of Lon Lon Ranch. I was delivering this milk to the royal family, but I got tired and decided to rest my eyes. I guess I dozed off."
"Well, Malon's looking for you," said Sonic. "She is?" asked Talon in surprise. "Oh, no. Why didn't you say so? I must get home immediately. Bye, Sonic!" And off he ran. Sonic jumped towards the little hole and crawled through it.
Sonic saw lots of guards in the castle gardens, so he quickly put the hood of his cloak back on so he would be invisible again. Then, he zipped around the gardens so fast, the guards didn't even know he was there. It wasn't long before Sonic reached the entrance to the castle courtyard.
