When Sonic arrived in the courtyard, he took off the hood of his cloak so he wouldn't startle the princess. She was looking in the window. Sonic took a deep breath, and decided to take off his cloak as well and carefully approached the princess. He cleared his throat. "Excuse me?" he said. The princess turned around. "What? Who? Who are you? How did you get past the guards?" she asked. Then, she noticed a fairy hovering beside the hedgehog wearing a little white dress. "Oh, what's that?" she asked. "Is that, a fairy? Then, are you, are you from the forest?" Sonic waved to her and grinned. "Then, then, you wouldn't happen to have the spiritual stone of the forest, would you? That green and shining stone?"

"Huh?" said Sonic, as he looked into the princess' hopeful eyes.

"Do you have it?" she asked.

"You mean, this stone?" said Sonic, handing her the green spiritual stone. The princess took it from Sonic, held it in her hands and giggled. "Just as I thought," she said. "I had a dream. In the dream, dark storm clouds were billowing over the land of Hyrule. But, suddenly, a ray of light shot out of the forest, parted the clouds and lit up the ground. The light turned into a spiky little blue figure holding green and shining stone followed by a fairy."

Sonic thought about this. He must've been the blue figure with the stone, followed by the fairy, which must've been Navi.

"I knew this was a prophecy that someone would come from the forest," the princess continued.

"So, you think it was me?" Sonic asked.

"Yes," said the princess. "I thought you might be the one." Then, she suddenly gasped. "Oh, I'm sorry. I got so carried away with my story that I forgot to properly introduce myself. I am Zelda, princess of Hyrule."

"Nice to meet you," said Sonic.

"What is your name?" asked Zelda.

"I'm Sonic," said the hedgehog proudly.

"Sonic?" said Zelda. "That's a nice name." It sounded familiar to her. "Okay then, Sonic, I'm going to tell you a secret that has been passed down by the royal family of Hyrule. Please keep this a secret from everyone."

"Okay, I won't tell anyone," said Sonic. The legend went like this…

The three goddesses that built the triforce hid it somewhere in Hyrule. If the one who touches it who has a pure heart makes a wish, Hyrule would be led to paradise. If someone with an evil mind touches the triforce and makes a wish, Hyrule would be led to a world of monsters. So, the three goddesses built the temple of time to protect the triforce from the evil ones.

"The temple of time?" Sonic asked, interrupting her.

"That's right, Sonic," said Zelda. "The temple of time is the gateway where you can enter the sacred realm from our world. But, the entrance is sealed with a stone wall called the door of time. And in order to open the door, it is said that you need to collect three spiritual stones."

"I only have the spiritual stone of the forest," said Sonic. "And I gave it to you, remember?"

"Yes," said Zelda. "There's another thing you need to open the door. It's the treasure that has been kept in the royal family. The ocarina of time!"

Sonic did some thinking.

"Did you understand well the story I just taught you?" asked Zelda.

"Yes, I think so," said Sonic.

"That's great!" Zelda was delighted. But then, her face fell. "I forgot to tell you, I was spying through this window just now. The other element of my dream, the dark clouds. I believe they symbolize that man in there. Will you look through the window at him?"

"Okay," said Sonic. He peered through the window and saw a man in dark clouds bowing deeply to a little robot sitting on a throne. The little robot had his hands clasped together and looked a little anxious. Just then, the man looked over in Sonic's direction. Sonic looked away and gasped.

"What happened?" asked Zelda. "Did he see you?"

"Yeah," said Sonic nervously.

"Oh, don't worry," said Zelda. "He doesn't have any idea what we're planning yet."

"What about that little robot?" asked Sonic. "That's my father," said Zelda. "He became king almost two years ago as a reward for restoring planet earth to its full glory. He adopted me. I call him WALL-E."

"Ah, that makes sense," said Sonic. "Did you tell him about your dream?"

"Yes, Sonic," said Zelda. "But, he didn't believe it was a prophecy. But, I can sense the man's evil intentions. He must be after the triforce of the sacred realm. And he's come to Hyrule to obtain it. If he gets his hands on it, he'll destroy Hyrule. No, the entire world!" She turned to Sonic anxiously and took his hands in hers. "Sonic, now we are the only ones who can protect Hyrule. Please!"

"Don't worry," said Sonic. "I'll protect you from that evil man."

"Oh, thank you," said Zelda, breathing a sigh of relief. "I… I am afraid. I have a feeling that man is going to destroy Hyrule. But, it's fortunate that you have come. We must not let the man get the triforce. I'll protect the ocarina of time with all my power. He shall not have it. Let's get the triforce before the man does and then, defeat him."

"Let's," agreed Sonic. But before Sonic left, Zelda quickly wrote a letter and gave it to him. Then, he saw the captain of the guards standing at the courtyard entrance. But, it was a woman, and she seemed a lot friendlier than the other guards Sonic had seen. "I am Impa of the Sheikah," she said. "I am responsible for protecting Princess Zelda. Everything is exactly as the princess fortold."

"Hi, I'm Sonic," said the little hedgehog, shaking her hand.

"Nice to meet you, Sonic," said Impa. "You must be heading on a big new adventure, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am," replied Sonic.

"My role in the princess' dream was to teach a melody to the one who came from the forest. I have played this song for Princess Zelda as a lullaby ever since she was a baby. There is mysterious power in these notes. Now listen carefully."

And she taught him how to play a sweet, gentle little tune. When Sonic memorized that song, he realized it was "Zelda's Lullaby." But what mysterious power could be in these notes?

"Very good, Sonic," said Impa. "Now, if the castle solders find you, there will be trouble. Let me lead you out of the castle."

And she carefully guided Sonic down the safest path out of the castle, where the other guards couldn't see him.

Finally, before too long, Sonic and Impa were standing in Hyrule Field, where Sonic would be safe from the guards. "What a brave little hedgehog you are," said Impa. "We must protect this beautiful land of Hyrule."

"I'm on it, Impa," said Sonic, saluting her. "But, where can I find the other two spiritual stones?"

"Well," said Impa. "Do you see that mountain over there?"

"Uh-huh," said Sonic.

"That is Death Mountain, home of the Scarlet Scorch. She guards the spiritual stone of fire." Sonic nodded. "At the foot of Death Mountain," she continued. "You will find my village, Kakariko. That is where I was born and raised. You should talk to some of the villagers there before you go up Death Mountain. The princess is waiting for you to return to the castle with the stones. Alright, we're counting on you." And with that, Impa snapped her fingers and disappeared.
