Author's Note: Yes, the episode dealing with Alcatraz (The Power of Two) is taken out of order from where it appears in canon. I did it because to use the island for the Jedi Academy, Ward would need to be dealt with and it needed to be done sooner rather than later.

Chapter 4: Alcatraz Part 1

Buckland's Auction House

Prue walked through the building wearing her new Jedi robes. She smiled as people looked at her as she walked to Rex's office and knocked on his door.

"Come in," called Rex from the other side of the door. He looked up as Prue entered the office. "Ah, Prue," he said noticing what she was wearing. Was it possible that Prue had joined the Jedi? Since the Jedi's arrival in San Francisco both demons and warlocks had been having problems with them. "What can I do for you?"

"I'm here to turn in my resignation," said Prue as she placed her resignation notice on his desk. "As of a week ago I got a better offer."

"The Jedi?" Rex asked with a frown.

Prue smiled. "That's correct. As of last week, I am a member of the Jedi Order," she told him. She turned and walked out of the office passing Hannah and down the hall to her office so she could pack up her things.

Hannah looked to Rex as she shut the door. "What did she want?" she asked.

"She quit." Rex said. "She joined the Jedi."

"Our plan to frame her for the tiara has failed before she even entered the vault then. How are we going to get their powers now?" Hannah asked.

"We're not. We failed," Rex said with sigh. He and Hannah disappeared in a puff of smoke.

In the Heavens

The Halliwell's handyman, Leo Wyatt, met with a group of beings known as the Elders.

"Leo. We're concerned about the Halliwells," Roland, one of the Elders, explained to the Whitelighter.

"I think I can understand why," Leo said as he remembered the Jedi's arrival in San Francisco. He had even seen one of the Jedi actively training the Halliwells. "It's the Jedi isn't it?"

Roland nodded. "Yes," he said with a sigh. "They now have the Halliwells using their powers out in the open. We must do something or magic will be exposed."

"What if I talk with them?" Leo suggested. "See what can be done."

"Good thinking, Leo," agreed Roland. "See that is done."

Leo nodded as he orbed out.

Halliwell Manor

At the Manor Phoebe stood in front of her bedroom mirror looking at her reflection dressed in the Jedi robes. They looked awful to her, completely unflattering.

"Yeah I feel for you," Piper said from the door.

Phoebe turned to her sister and noted that she too wore her Jedi robes. She let out a sigh and shook her head. "I still don't understand why we can't wear our normal clothes."

"Buffy said that some things would remain the same while other things would change. She showed me a picture taken when she first trained to be a Jedi. She had this short haircut and a long single braid. So did Dawn." Piper said.

The Halliwell sisters had met their other cousin, Dawn and, her Padawan slash wife, Faith a few days before. It had been then when they had learned the entire story of Buffy and Dawn's lives.

"The haircut not happening. Buffy had said she hated the haircut," Piper continued. "The robes along with the lightsabers, we will eventually build, are one thing that will not change. They are signs that we are Jedi."

"I know. I know." Phoebe said with a sigh. She decided to change the subject to their missing sister. "Where is Prue? I didn't see her this morning when I got up."

"She went in early to Bucklands to turn in her resignation and clean out her office." Piper said.

"She's quitting her job?" Phoebe asked surprised, Prue was the last person she would have ever expected to do that.

"She said she wanted to devote herself to her training," Piper said.

Jedi Master Buffy Naberrie's Apartment

Buffy had a couple hours before she had to be over at the Halliwells for the tour of Alcatraz. So, she was having a lazy breakfast with her husband and daughter. It was at that moment that Leo Wyatt orbed in surprising the family. Buffy quickly stood up as she centered herself and then summoned her lightsaber to her.

"I remember you," Buffy said as she wondered if Leo could be a demon. "I met you last week at the Halliwells."

"That's right," Leo said as he looked at the table and realized he had orbed in at probably the wrong time. He looked directly as Buffy. "I'm Leo Wyatt. I'm a Whitelighter. I'm here to talk to you about the Halliwells."

"Didn't you tell me he was supposed to be their handyman?" Angel asked as he moved beside his wife.

"He was," Buffy said. "But now I'm wondering, demon? Because only demons can teleport like that. Well demons and Aurora."

"Actually, there are a few supernatural races that have some form of teleportation," Leo explained as he looked at the duo. "Leprechauns …"

"Leprechauns are real?" Buffy asked remembering a conversation she had with Giles years ago. He had been adamant that they weren't real.

"Yes." Leo nodded. "Leprechauns for example actually summon a rainbow which takes them where they want to go. And I am not a demon. I'm a Whitelighter as I already said."

"And that would be?" Willow wondered as she entered the dining room from the hall. She had seen Buffy's lightsaber flying out of Buffy and Angel's room and knew something had to be up. So, she grabbed her own and came to check out what was going on.

Leo looked to Willow and noted that she, like Buffy, Angel, and little Padme wore Jedi Robes. He realized that she had to be one of the Jedi. "You might think of a Whitelighter as a guardian angel for witches and future Whitelighters," he explained.

"Like the Halliwells," Angel said.

Leo nodded. "Yes, in fact I'm their Whitelighter."

"So what are you doing here?" Buffy asked.

"You need to stop training the Halliwells," Leo said. "They risk exposing us all if they use magic in view of the public."

"They are Jedi, Mr. Wyatt," Buffy said as she glared at the Whitelighter. "Not just witches. And need to be properly trained not only in the use of their Jedi abilities but their powers as well. And they do need training in the use of those powers. What do you know of their family history?"

"That they are descended from Charlotte Warren. Why?" Leo said confused on the question.

"Did you know that Charlotte had two daughters?" Buffy asked and Leo shook his head. "I am descended from Emily Warren, Melinda's younger sister."

"But…" Leo started, that was impossible wasn't it? Weren't the Jedi from another planet?

"Buffy was born right here on Earth in Los Angeles," explained Willow.

"On January 20th, 1981," Buffy added, "and about a decade ago I and my sister both fell through a portal. We were eventually found by the Jedi and were offered to be trained. So you know nothing about Charlotte's ancestors?"

"No. The Halliwells powers originated from Melinda." Leo said. "It was at that time the Elders took notice of their family line."

"Charlotte Warren is descended from Charissa Hanas who was born in the early twelve hundred's in what is today Instanbul, Turkey. Charissa's husband was the first Jedi to ever come to Earth. We don't know his birth name," Buffy explained, her eyes never once leaving Leo. "We know he went by multiple names thought out his life. The one we refer to him as is Revan, though we know at one point he went by the name Sarryn Baill."

"He came to Earth because it held a Nexus of Dark Side energy, the Hellmouth. Overtime he fell in love with Charissa and they had a daughter Elisabet. When I returned to Earth, I had a good friend of mine help me trace my family tree and then their descendants." She didn't bother to explain the reason that she had Giles trace her genealogy was because of Revan telling her that Revan had more descendants on Earth. "Prue, Piper and Phoebe are descended from Charissa and Revan."

"Okay I understand training them to become a Jedi," Leo said. "If they are truly descended from a Jedi then they would need help in learning control of the Jedi powers. But if they use magic they risk exposure for all of us. Both sides agreed ages ago to protect magic."

"You really don't have to worry about your precious magic at least for right now." Buffy said as she glared at Leo. She activated her lightsaber, the silver blade springing to life. "Eventually everything will be exposed, demons and your people included. The time for hiding is over. As we told the United Nations. It is time for Earth to become one world united. We are no longer alone in the galaxy."

"The Jedi Order has a plan for the demons that can't live side by side in peace with the people of Earth. They will be transplanted to a new world where they can start over. Build their own civilization. Now as far as the Halliwells are concerned till demons and other beings are revealed. Their magic would likely be believed by others as Jedi abilities. Most won't know the difference. Now if you excuse us, I was having breakfast with my family and friends."

Buffy deactivated her lightsaber and she, Angel and Willow sat at the table with little Padme as Leo orbed out.

Halliwell Manor

At the Manor Prue walked through the front door carrying a box.

"Hey your home," Phoebe said as she came downstairs. "All quit from your job?"

"Yes," Prue said as she walked into the dining room and set the box down on the table.

"I never expected you to actually quit your job," admitted Phoebe.

"I know, neither did I," said Prue. "But it felt right."

"Did Buffy say what we were going to be doing today?" Phoebe wondered changing the topic.

"Master Naberrie," Prue corrected her sister, who rolled her eyes, "said something about Alcatraz. I think the President and Congress, at the urging of the United Nations, gave the Jedi Order the island for the Academy. I would think Master Naberrie wants to see what needs to be done to make it habitable before they bring over the Slayers, that are going to be trained, from the Watcher's Council headquarters in England."

In the Heavens

Leo had returned to discuss what he had learned. "She said that we should prepare for being exposed. That with time everything will be out in the open that the world should be united. Especially now that mortals know they are no longer alone in the galaxy."

Roland sighed that was not news he had wanted to hear. "And what does she intend to do about us and the demons?" he asked.

"Well. She said the demons who don't wish to live peacefully side by side with humans will be relocated to another planet where they can start their own civilization," Leo explained. "If we choose not to live peacefully with humanity, I assume that would include us. I think we should offer our services openly to the Jedi. It will foster good will between us and the Jedi. And if I am not mistaken at least some of them might even be witches. The Jedi I spoke to was born on Earth and through a twist of fate was thrown through a portal to somewhere in the galaxy where the Jedi found her and trained her."

"So?" Roland said skeptical on why that had any relevance.

"She told me that she is a descendant of Emily Warren. Melinda Warren's younger sister." Leo replied. "I didn't even know that Melinda Warren had a sister."

"It is a little-known fact," admitted Roland. "Her line was not monitored like Melinda Warren's was because her family line falls under prevue of the Powers that Be." He sighed and looked at Leo. "You are sure that she is descended from Emily Warren?"

"I would have to see the family lineage to be one hundred percent sure," Leo admitted wishing he had asked to see the genealogy. "But the Jedi I talked to said she was descended from Emily Warren."

Roland looked at his fellow Elders all of whom nodded at the unspoken question. He looked back at Leo. "Go make the gesture," he told the Whitelighter. "All of your current charges with the exception of the Halliwells will be reassigned. Future charges will come from any witches among the Jedi as well as any descendants of Emily Warren amongst them. You will be our liaison to the Jedi. Offer them whatever help we can give."

Leo nodded and orbed out.

Roland let out a sigh, maybe it was time to do away with the old agreements with the Source.

Jedi Master Buffy Naberrie's Apartment

This time Leo decided the best thing to do was not orb into the apartment itself in case the occupants were still eating. He knocked on the door and waited.

"You again." Buffy said when she opened the door and saw who it was that had knocked. "What do you want this time?"

"I have spoken to the Elders, they are my bosses," Leo explained. "Because you are not only a Jedi but a descendant of Emily Warren, they have gone against a covenant with the Powers that Be," he noticed Buffy curse under her breath at the mention of the Powers. "I take it you have had an experience with them?"

"You could say that," said Buffy. "They like the Old Watcher's Council are pretentious meddling asswipes. Both myself and my husband were once two of their Champions."

Leo had never met the Powers but from his charges who had dealings with their Champions he had to agree with Buffy's sentiment. "I've been assigned not only to be your Whitelighter but also the Liaison between my bosses and the Jedi. All other charges from this moment forward will come from your family line, the Halliwell's family line and that of the Jedi."

Buffy let out a sigh and motioned for Leo to enter. Leo noticed they were alone. "Angel is running an errand for me. And my daughter is attending her lessons with her master."

"Her master?" Leo asked, if he was going to be the liaison to the Jedi, he needed to understand the terminology as it related to them.

Buffy saw the confusion on Leo's face. "Are you wondering who I am talking about, or why I chose that word, or both?"

"Both, more or less," said Leo. "If I am to be the liaison to your group, I need to better understand the terminology as well as know the people who might call on me."

Buffy nodded, it made sense. "Master can be used in a few different ways when it comes to our Order. The first is denotation of rank. For example, within the Jedi Order I currently hold the highest rank of Grandmaster, the next lowest is Master, then Knight and finally Padawan. My daughter and my husband are both Padawan rank. The second is a form of address. Like someone who is in the military would be addressed as Captain Such and Such, the same is the case here. I am addressed as either Master or Grandmaster Buffy Naberrie. The another is a sign of respect. I refer to my friend Willow as my daughter's master out of respect for her. The last is again a form of address but this is from a Padawan or Knight generally to someone of higher rank within the Jedi Order. For example, my daughter, Padme, would normally refer to Willow as Master Rosenberg, despite Willow's rank being Knight. Though Padme doesn't generally do that with Willow, because of her age, she sees Willow as her aunt."

"Thank you for the information," said Leo. "You mentioned that you were born on Earth. Was Buffy Naberrie always your name?"

"I was adopted after my sister and I fell through the portal," admitted Buffy. "My birth name is Buffy Summers."

Leo's eyes went wide with realization. He had of course heard of Buffy Summers from his charges who had dealings with the Powers and their Champions. So, he knew who she had been until hers and her sister's disappearance. "Until over a decade ago you were considered to be the longest living Slayer on record," he said.

"That's right," said Buffy.

"Which means the portal that you and your sister fell through was the one that Glorificus used the Key to open?" Leo asked Buffy who nodded. "What puzzles me is where did you wind up? The Key to my knowledge was supposed to only cross the dimensional barrier between our universe and all others."

"At the time it did," said Buffy. "You see at the time Earth was trapped in a pocket dimension. When Glorificus opened the portal using my sister's blood it thrust us both out of the pocket dimension along with Glorificus."

"You state that Earth was in a pocket dimension," Leo said. "How did that happen do you know?"

"More or less," said Buffy as she watched Leo's reaction. "My ancestor, Revan, believed he had created the Key. Revan witnessed a prophecy that stated the Sith would rule the galaxy. What he didn't know at that time was that it was a long way off. Not even within his own lifetime."

Leo listened, it all seemed fantastical, but had no reason to disbelieve what Buffy was telling him.

"You know about the Hellmouth I assume?" Buffy continued as Leo nodded. "The Hellmouth is or was a nexus of Dark Side energies, my sister-in-law helped close it. Utilizing the Key, Revan somehow transferred Earth into the pocket dimension to hide it from the Sith. He was sure that more Sith would come searching for the nexus. From what we learned the pocket dimension was unstable from the moment of it's creation. And that it in eight hundred years Earth would revert back to its place within the galaxy. About four years ago that happened, I don't know exactly when as I was not on Earth at the time. The New Republic that Earth has joined is a recent development. The Sith ruled the galaxy for twenty years. Dawn and I among others helped to end the war and are now trying reestablish the Republic."

Leo nodded as he looked to Buffy. "You mentioned you are descended from Charlotte Warren. Being that you were the Powers champion I am sure I know the answer. But it must be asked anyways just in case. Did you inherit magical powers like Prue, Piper and Phoebe?"

"I think you are probably right," admitted Buffy. "The only powers I know of are from the Slayer. That said some of my family have powers. My niece, Aurora, seems to inherited the Key from her mother. She can use it to teleport. It is possible my sister, Dawn, may have access to that magic as well, I don't know. Of my actual family Aurora is the only one to date that has shown having magical powers."

"What about in your Order, are there any witches there?"

"Two," said Buffy. "Willow, who you met earlier. She is a Jedi Witch."

"Jedi Witch?" Leo asked.

"I have been thinking of instituting titles for special Force users who have access to other disciplines, such as magic. Jedi Witches are witches who can perform magic. They don't necessarily though have magical powers though. Willow doesn't have powers. Melinda, you remember her from last week, right?"

"I do," said Leo. "I even knew who she was the moment I saw her at the Manor."

Buffy nodded. "She said Willow was likely a progenitor."

"The beginnings of a magical line," said Leo in understanding. "Her children will likely develop magical powers."

"The other witch is my niece, Aurora," she finished. "We also have Slayers in our ranks, I have yet to actually come up with a title for them."

"Now that you fall under the prevue of the Elders instead of the Powers because of your lineage and because I'm your Order's liaison it is possible you could develop powers or you could even be a progenitor yourself. Since your niece is a gifted witch that means your sister was most likely a progenitor herself, but she could also be gifted herself. Only time will tell if either of you develop magical powers."

"We'll see," said Buffy.

"Now I should tell you what means for me to be your Whitelighter. When it comes to the supernatural Whitelighters have some knowledge and what we don't know we can go to the Elders for information and see if they know," Leo explained. "Whitelighters can orb, as you saw earlier it's a form of teleportation. I also apologize for earlier, if I had known you were in the midst of breakfast I would have come back later or orbed in the hallway and knocked like I did now."

"Thank you," said Buffy who was appreciative of the apology.

"When we orb we take others along with us, though technically speaking we are not allowed to, but we can," Leo continued. "We can also heal people, generally when we're allowed, which is usually when it is magic related."

Buffy thought for a few moments and then nodded. What she had learned from him did make him a good go between for the Elders and the Jedi. Plus having someone who could heal could be useful till they got a Bacta tank set up. "Leo you can tell your bosses that we accept their offer. Before you leave how do I get in contact with you?"

"Just call out my name," Leo said, "as if I was in another room, I will hear and come. For me I hear it as a jingling. I also instantly know who it is who is calling and where they are."

"Thank you," said Buffy.

San Francisco International Airport

Aurora Skywalker walked from the gangway beside Kayda Skywalker, her half-sister and Padawan, and Shannon Thomas, one of the Slayers that was activated a spell that Willow had cast before Buffy and Dawn's exile. Shannon was one of the Slayers who wanted to be trained as a Jedi. They spotted Angel waiting for them and made their way across the waiting area to him.

"Hello, Uncle Angel." Aurora said as she gave the man a hug.

"Hello Aurora," he said as he returned the embrace. He then turned toward the other two. "Hello, Kayda, Shannon. Buffy sends her apologies. She was getting ready for the tour of Alcatraz Island to see what renovations were needed. She said she would meet you three at the Halliwells."

"Did she mention why she needed me to come before the Academy was ready?" Shannon asked.

Angel shook his head. "Not to me she didn't," he admitted. "But you have to remember that I, like you, am a Padawan learner. Despite being married to the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, I am not privileged to all the decisions she, Dawn and Anakin makes."

Halliwell Manor

At the Manor, Buffy knocked on the front door as Prue opened it. "Master Naberrie, will you come in," Prue said as she let her cousin in.

Buffy smiled at Prue as she crossed the threshold. "Neither Dawn or Ani are here, Prue," she said. "You can drop the Master business."

Prue looked at Buffy as she closed the door behind her cousin. She thought about what Buffy was offering. While she had no problem calling Buffy by name, she also knew that in most societies it was respectful not to address your teacher by their first name either. "I have no problems calling you by your name," she admitted. "I have been referring to you as Master out of respect, after all you are mine, Piper and Phoebe's teacher in the Jedi arts."

"Unlike my sister and brother," said Buffy. "I do not hold to making my family call me Master. I am not a stickler like Dawn or Ani. And Prue, you are indeed family so you can call me by name all you want."

Prue smiled and nodded. "Would it be alright if I gave my cousin a hug?"

"Of course," said Buffy as Prue embraced her. "You don't even have to ask."

"So, are we going to Alcatraz for that inspection?" Prue asked when she stepped back.

Buffy nodded as they walked into the living room. "As soon as Angel arrives."

"He's going with us?" Phoebe asked as she came down the stairs.

"No he will be staying with little Padme when Willow is done with her training session for today." Buffy said.

"Why do you call Padme, little Padme?" Prue wondered.

"Because she is named after my adopted sister," said Buffy. "It's less confusing for my family to know who is who. Anyways Angel is dropping someone off. Someone I want you all to meet."

It was then that a knock came at the door.

Prue made her way over to the door and opened it to find three women standing on the doorstep. "Yes, can I help you?" she asked.

"We're looking for my Aunt Buffy," one of the women said. "We were told she was here by her husband, Angel."

"Buffy?" Prue said as Buffy walked back into the foyer.

Buffy smiled and pulled first Aurora and then Kayda into an embrace. "Hello Aurora, Kayda, Shannon." She looked to Prue. "Aurora and Kayda are Dawn's daughters."

Kayda had at one time been known as Lady Ventrus, a Dark Lord of the Sith. She had been part of a secret cloning experiment that had cloned Anakin and had spliced both Buffy and Dawn's DNA with Palpatine's to created Elara and Kayda. Palpatine had raised them in the ways of the Sith, but the sisters had turned their backs on the dark side during the Battle of Endor and had been taken as Padawan learners by both Luke and Aurora.

"And this is Shannon Thomas," Buffy said as she turned back to Aurora and Kayda. "How was your flight?"

"Long and boring," Aurora said as Piper and Phoebe joined them at the door. "I don't know why you won't let me teleport."

"Because," Buffy said, "it is magic. Once we reveal magic to the world you can use it to your hearts content. But till then …"

Aurora sighed as she nodded in understanding. "Then I will be glad when we get an air speeder or two."

"Aurora, Kayda, Shannon, I would like you to meet Padawan Prue Halliwell, Padawan Piper Halliwell and Padawan Phoebe Halliwell." Buffy said. "Aurora will be helping me to train the three of you. I asked her to come for several reasons. First off I have a lot on my plate setting up the Academy. Second Aurora is newly knighted. This will get her experience not only training you three alongside Kayda but also with the supernatural. She has a power like the three of you," Buffy said as she looked at Aurora. "Show them."

Aurora smiled and in a flash of green she was gone. She reappeared five feet away. "I can teleport."

Buffy nodded. "Aurora she is a Jedi Witch like the three of you and other than when patrolling with myself, or Dawn, she and Kayda both have not experienced much of the supernatural yet. I would like it if you three could take on the task of training Aurora about magic." she said. "And lastly both Aurora and Kayda have lived on worlds very unlike Earth. This is all new to them, so I would like it if you three will teach them both in our customs as well."

"I think we can do that," Phoebe said excitedly as she looked towards Prue and Piper.

"Of course," Prue and Piper agreed.

"Master Naberrie?" Shannon asked.

"You're wondering why you're here?" Buffy asked as Shannon nodded. "Didn't you say your family was from San Francisco?" Shannon nodded. "Well you can stay with them while we start your Jedi training. I'll drop you off there once were done with the inspection of Alcatraz."
