Chapter 16:
"W-Wally? What are you doing here?" Dick took off the towel from atop his head, staring at the other bewildered.
"I heard what happened from Timmy—are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" The redhead was now standing two feet away from him, scrumptiously scanning him up and down and around.
"Wha—I-I'm fine." Dick replied on autopilot. 'Dammit Tim.'
"Are you sure? What did they want?"
"Yes, yes, I'm okay. I just hurt my back from when I fell but that's about it."
"Dammit—I knew I should've walked you back." Wally clenched his jaw to the point of breaking teeth. "This is all my fault."
Dick sighed. "Nonsense. This has nothing to do with you. They were some random psycho robbers."
"But if I was with you, then this wouldn't have happened."
"Please. You plan to fight them? Wait, can you even fight? I doubt that."
'You have no idea.' Wally's shoulders slacked as he stood straight, a sad expression washing over his features. Dick still had no idea he was associated with the Justice League, and the next prodigy to Flash.
"Don't look at me like that. Like I said, nothing happened, so stop looking like the world is over." Dick sympathized and placed a comforting hand on the other's shoulder. Technically he should be the one to receive comfort. The redhead quietly took the hand and brought it to his face, eyes shutting and brows frowning.
"You are my world…" Wally carelessly let out. Dick's senses backpedaled, momentarily freezing in place and heart unknowingly skipping a rhythm at that. He stared at the redhead, who wore an expression Dick never recognized before.
'When did he look this mature…?' The ravenette couldn't tear his eyes away. "Wally…"
"I'm sorry." The taller man breathed against his palm, leaning into the hand he was holding against his cheek.
"…I said don't apologize…" Dick was still lagging behind, and his brain slowed down further when Wally's emerald green eyes opened and locked with his. Dick was unable to move when Wally stepped closer. The redhead looked him down again. The ravenette's damp long hair, waving around his face, his sky blue eyes gazing back at him with mild confusion, and his body so nicely outlined in the tight fitting clothing.
"Dick…" The redhead's heart was pounding rapidly at this point, his hand extending on his own and finding a place on Dick's cheek. For some reason the emotions were heavy in the atmosphere. The raven haired instinctively took a step back when his personal space was invaded.
"Hey Dick! You've seen my—" However, before anything could unknowingly go down between them, Jason burst into his brother's room. "Huh? Wally? What're you doing here?"
Dick and Wally separated faster than the door could fully open, both standing five feet apart, facing away with flushed faces. "Oh, hey! Haha I just stopped by randomly." Wally scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. "What's up?"
"I'm looking for my bag, Dick you've seen it?" Jason turned back to his elder brother.
"Uh…no…but I think I may have seen it somewhere—I'll help you look." Dick scurried towards the door, not facing Wally.
"Okay." Jason didn't think it would be that easy, he was prepared for backhanded criticism of being too careless.
Wally exhaled a breath he didn't even know he was holding and fell onto the bed. 'What was he just about to do? Was he crazy?!' He hid the lower half of his face in his palm, his cheek still burning from where Dick's hand previously was.
The Justice League was invited to the Batcave for a small informal celebration. It was more of a get-together than an actual party but nonetheless it was a gesture to celebrate Robin's full recovery.
"You're a strong one. You learned from the best." Superman commended.
"Yeah that's one way to put it." Jason concurred. The others also congratulated him.
During the party, Superboy reached for a drink but soon realized they were out of clean glasses.
"I'll ask Alfred to bring some more." Bruce told.
"Is Alfred upstairs? It's alright, Conner can just go upstairs if you don't mind." Clark suggested. Suberboy nodded in response and headed to the elevator.
The teen made it to the manor, opening straight into a fireplace, 'So this is the Wayne manor? Whatever. Now where is the butler…?' Superboy glanced towards the door contemplating walking down the hall to scout the other without getting lost in the manor. The kryptonian took a few steps but was alarmed to find someone walk into the fireplace before he could leave. The teen in front of him, was probably close to his age, long blackish brown hair parted in the middle and falling close to his jawline. He had a slim build and was holding a laptop in his hand. The said teen was just as startled as he was, seeing a foreign person in his place.
"Who—Who are you? How did you …" Tim immediately spoke up, on guard.
"You live here?" The stern cold voice from Conner spoke.
"…I asked first." Tim asserted and Superboy frowned in response.
"Hello sir, you must be here to retrieve a glass. I was informed by Master Bruce, please follow me." Alfred stepped in as well and eased the tension in the air. Superboy wordlessly followed the old man, not sparing another glance towards Tim. Meanwhile Tim watched the taller teen leave, his first impression of him being moody and somewhat arrogant? The raven haired shrugged to himself, not giving it any thought.
The next day Jason challenged Bruce to a fight again. Bruce was in the batcave, in front of the bat-computer doing his research but the younger made sure he was up and following him to the training area. He was not taking no for an answer. One of those things he learned from Batman. They settled into their positions and in three, two, one, they charged forward.
The teen gave it his all, not heeding to his fatiguing muscles at all. He put up a good fight, but imagine the damage to his pride when he lost again.
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Jason wailed, sitting on the cold ground, knees up. Bruce walked away, grabbing a towel to wipe away the sweat on his forehead and head back to his chair. At least Bruce didn't make a remark despite seeming like he very much wanted to.
Jason huffed loudly, not bothering to get up and just laid back on the hard floor. The teen closed his eyes as he attempted to catch his breath, feeling the coolness of the ground against his muscles past the thin fabric of his shirt. There was a random song playing rent-free in his head, calming him down along with the silent noises echoing in the cave. 'I think my stamina is getting better…' Or maybe it was wishful thinking because he didn't feel a hundred percent after that match.
The ravenette lost track of time, and he must've been laying there stone still for so long that the next time he heard his name, there was an edge of concern with it. "Jason." He opened his eyes and found Bruce staring at him with subtle worry from the chair. "What's the matter?"
Jason failed to respond immediately, taking his time to process the question and assess his body. That was a second too long for Bruce who was already up and treading towards him. Jason commanded his body to sit up and imagined himself doing so, but almost like a sleep paralysis thing, found himself unmoved on the ground. The elder relaxed a fraction when he heard a soft chuckle from his partner.
"I…I think my muscles relaxed to the point where I can't seem to move them anymore, haha. They'll come around just... give me a moment." Jason explained.
Bruce knelt beside his head. "Can you move your fingers? Jason complied.
"Good." The elder took his hand and snaked it around his own neck, sitting him up.
"Thanks." The teen barely muttered before another hand clutched under his knees. "Wait—" But Bruce was already hoisting him up midair. Jason sighed. "I can walk just fine okay—this isn't helping me get better." He protested.
"It's fine. You've worked out enough today, now rest for the remainder of the evening." The elder walked them to the elevator and Jason squirmed.
"No. I don't wanna head back up yet. I can help you with the cases."
"I have it under control."
"Please B, I don't have anything to do upstairs either." Jason resorted to pleading and Bruce must have been feeling lenient because it worked. So instead, Bruce dropped him off at the couch in the batcave instead, that was directly across from the bat computer and close to some of their gym equipment. Jason watched Bruce return to the computer and begin working. He rested his cheek on his knuckles in thought. 'He's treating me too nicely. What am I gonna break?'
Tim had arrived in Metropolis one afternoon. He needed to write a report for school and the city he chose was Metropolis. 'I can't wait to graduate next year.' Tim was in his third year in high school, seventeen years old. 'but wow Metropolis is so much brighter than Gotham.' Tim used a hand to shield his eyes as he stared up at the sunny sky. The teen gripped his messenger bag strap and walked down the city.
He was doing fine on his own until the ground beneath him shook violently. 'What? An earthquake?!' That was followed by an explosion and a nearby building completely crumbling behind him. Tim stared dumbfounded until he followed suite with the other civilians and paced away.
'Dammit—looks like no place is safe after all. What the hell is going on in plain sight, in the middle of the day? At least a lot of their stuff happened in the dark.' Or one could argue Gotham was always somewhat dark. Anyways that wasn't important right now. Tim was striding away when he inevitably noticed a shadow gradually growing over him. The ravenette peered over his shoulder to find a building girder falling in his direction just above him. 'Crap—'
Tim panicked but that's when something or someone swiped him away in one quick motion. They leaped a good hundred feet away and Tim didn't catch up to his senses until he was standing on his own two feet again. The said person, his savior let go of his waist. "Thank—ah. It's you." The brunette automatically recognized the indifferent teen from before. Superboy glanced down at him, a brow involuntarily raising, implying he had recognized the other as well.
Before they could exchange any more words, a flash of red and orange spun around them before it came to a full stop beside them. It was Kid Flash. Or he went by Young Flash these days, Flash's prodigy. Yes, Tim kept up with the news and media. Albeit close up, Flash's red hair looked awfully familiar.
"Yo Ti—I mean, are you okay kid?" Flash raised a hand.
'Did he imagine that? It almost felt like the elder said his name.' Tim brushed the thought aside. "Yes, I'm fine thank you. But…what's going on…?"
"Some villain planted several bombs around the city. It seems the first few went off already. But don't worry about that—you should get outta here while you have the chance." Wally casually answered.
"Bombs?" Tim echoed. "Do you guys know where they're located?"
"If we did, they would've been disabled already." Superboy stated in a matter of fact way. Tim only shot him a secret glare before turning back to Flash. "I can help. It's the least I can do. Do we have any information on them?" The teen offered, moving to a boulder nearby and sitting on it, taking out his laptop instantly.
"Huh?" Wally mouthed perplexed, and walking over to him. "How so?"
"I can install an infrared or radiation detection software that'll pick up on signals from nearby bombs." Tim explained as he clicked away. He was grateful to Bruce for getting him the most state of the art laptop with enough RAM and graphics to allow this. "I don't think the range is very large since it's still only a computer, so we might have to go around the city…"
"That's a really smart idea." Wally praised. "We need to stall for time anyways until Superman arrives. Then we can leave the rest to him and his X-ray vision." The elder glimpsed at Superboy who nodded in agreement. Once installed, Tim stood up with his laptop open in his arms and began walking in the direction they came from. Young Flash and Superboy were right beside him.
"There's one close by." The brunette claimed.
"Where?" Superboy urgently and impatiently asked.
Tim pointed with a finger before he spoke. "That large building, about ten blocks down. Somewhere in the middle floors it seems...?" Superboy was flying over before the teen was even finished. While he did so, Wally and Tim turned directions and searched for the next one. Once detected, Tim guided Flash to the next one who literally dashed away to take care of that. The younger was left alone for a brief moment and contemplated walking around on his own or waiting for the others since it was quite dangerous. He couldn't outrun a ticking time bomb after all.
Eventually one of them did come back, unluckily for him, it had to be Superman's ward. "Superman is here. You can pack your stuff."
'You're welcome.' Tim thought sourly. "I see, that's good. Did they take care of all—" As if on cue, an obnoxious sound went off and forceful air waves ambushed them. The other heroes probably threw the bomb into the sky last minute. The impact was strong enough to sway some skyscrapers though. Furthermore, some of those glass windows also shattered above them.
"Watch out!" Tim instinctively threw himself towards the taller teen, pushing both of them out of the way when he registered window shards raining over them. Thanks to him, they fell on to the ground. All was well until Tim felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. Tim hissed when he saw a glass shard pierced into his shoulder. 'Shit.'
"Are you an idiot?" Were the ignorant words from Superboy himself. The kryptonion sat up while Tim was in front of him on his knees.
"Che, you're welcome." Tim sarcastically rolled his eyes, holding his shoulder. He was bleeding but it didn't feel too deep. "Now we're even."
"What?" Conner repeated, not following.
"Whoa what happened?!" Another voice interjected their circle. "Ah! You're bleeding! Hey, take him to the hospital!" Wally waved his arms around.
"But what about—"
"Don't worry, we got it covered here kid." The redhead patted his shoulder.
"Tsk. I got it, stop calling me that." Superboy coldly brushed his hand away. He then picked Tim up without warning or consent and began levitating off the ground. Tim gawked as he processed himself floating ten feet off the ground.
'Whoa whoa he was legit flying… it was weird experiencing it firsthand.' Tim couldn't help but clutch on to the other's shirt rather tightly. The ground and people beneath them gradually becoming smaller and smaller as the wind cruised and split past them. The teen even momentarily closed his eyes to seize the feeling—it felt like being on a speedboat, or a motorbike. It wasn't a terrible feeling, on the contrary it was quite thrilling.
Tim opened his eyes to Superboy's jawline, who paid him no mind and had his eyes straight ahead at the sky. Tim hadn't paid attention before but the other had sharp features. The ravenette had simple short black hair, deep blue eyes close to Superman's, a distinct square jawline and a naturally broad build. Simple but attractive, just like Superman. Speaking of superman, were they brothers then? Father, son?
They made it to the hospital and Superboy instantly stormed in demanding medical assistance. The nurses took him in and removed the glass, closing it off with a few stitches. He was also prescribed an antibiotic ointment and painkillers before he was discharged. Tim thanked, his shoulder a tad sore as he walked to the waiting area. There still was dried blood on his shirt so he already knew there was no hiding it from Dick. He was going to have fun explaining this one. His elder brother would probably scold him for getting involved in the first place. It looks like Jason wasn't the only one who liked to play vigilante.
To his absolute surprise, Superboy was actually standing in the waiting area. The shock on Tim's face was evident when he approached the kryptonian. "You're…still here?" Tim croaked.
"I can't just leave you here…"
"Haha wow look at that, you're more noble than I thought." Tim joked, causing the taller teen to frown.
"What's that supposed to mean?" The brunette shrugged in response. "Where do you live? Wayne manor?" Superboy recalled.
"Mh. But its fine." Tim told. "You don't have to fly me all the way back. It seems you have better things to take care of," He glanced past the other's shoulder looking at the city in chaos. "I'll just call a cab, I'm totally fine you see." He flexed his shoulder as proof but faked the pain. Superboy only studied him in silence. "Really. Go." Tim began walking away and the other didn't stop him, not that he expected him to.
'Wow he was the complete opposite of Superman.'
To be continued…
Don't kill me. *prepared to run away* I know I cock blocked ya'll, but trust me it's not the time (for that kiss). We will get there. I promise. In the meantime blame Jason, not me lmao—he's the one who interrupted them. BUT, I'll leave you guys with a small spoiler, there WILL be a kiss in the next chapter, I'm not saying who n who, but there will be one. Stay tuned I guess, haha.
Also, my, my, my, look at that, Superboy is part of this fic too now~! Yay. That was a last minute decision haha, since I realized I probably wont get a chance to write a TimCon fic, so why not add it in there. Plus why leave little Timmy out of the circle of finding love hahahaha.
Last but not least, I posted some WallyDick and TimCon art on my deviantart for you guys to enjoy in the meantime, to fuel your imagination. ^^
