Snakecoat, Spidercloud, and Hornetfoot were on patrol searching in Cliffclan's borders for prey.

Spidercloud's ears twitched and jumped up in a small tree, he came out the leaves of the tree with two squirrels in his jaw. Snakecoat meowed, " Nice catch!"

Hornetfoot sniffed the air and darted away from the patrol. Snakecoat looked over and meowed " Wait up!"

Spidercloud followed close behind, soon they heard the cries of a kit. They finally stopped in their tracks in front of a small kit, they could not tell what fur color it was because of all the dirt on the kit. They ran back to camp with the kit and gave the kit to Hornetfoot. Hornetfoot went back to the nursery and fed her kits and the new kit. Snakecoat came back with a leaf full of water, he poured some water on the kit revealing the kit's flame orange fur. Cliffstar padded over and picked up the kit, she called a clan meeting for the kit and meowed, " May starclan look upo our newest member who will now be named Flamekit."

Cliffstar thought to herself, " Flamekit? Flamekit must be the flame!"

Moons later, Goldenkit meowed " Hey Flamekit aren't you excited!"

Flamekit meowed, " Not really, we could get hurt!"

Goldenkit meowed " Well you can't live life without getting hurt at least once. And me and you will be the strongest apprentices and warriors, then we will never get hurt!"

Flamekit meowed " I guess."

Just then Cliffstar yowled out " Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather around!"

All the cats gathered around the rocky hill and sat down. Cliffstar meowed, " Let starclan look upon these kits as they become apprentices, Poppykit, you will now be known as Poppypaw, your mentor will be Snakecoat. Flamekit, you will now be known as Flamepaw, I will be your mentor. Goldenkit, you will now be known as Goldenpaw, your mentor will be Spidercloud. Silverkit, you will now be known as Silverpaw, your mentor will be Mintberry. Yellowkit, you will now be known as Yellowpaw, your mentor will be Hornetfoot. Beekit, you will now be known as Beepaw, your mentor will be Lavenderthroat. Swankit, you will now be known as Swanpaw, your mentor will be Snailleg. May starclan be with our apprentices."

All cats cheered when mentors touched noses with their apprentices. Cliffstar came over to touch noses with Flamepaw, she came over but Flamepaw started panicking and fell unconscious. Cliffstar picked Flamepaw up quickly and ran to the medicine den. Mintberry ran over after touching noses with his apprentice Silverpaw. He looked over at Flamepaw and meowed " He's fine, he is just going to be asleep for a bit."

Cliffstar meowed, " Ok, that is good."

Poppypaw sat down in the apprentice den on a moss nest, she was looking around for someone to talk to. She padded over to Silverpaw, Yellowpaw, Swanpaw, and Beepaw. Silverpaw meowed " I can't believe Flamepaw fainted like that."

Swanpaw meowed " Yea, I can't believe he was my littermate."

Poppypaw shuffled around uncomfortably. Beepaw meowed, " Something wrong Poppypaw?"

Poppypaw meowed softly " No."

Yellowpaw hissed " You don't feel bad for that freek do you?"

Poppypaw muttered " Of course not."

Flamepaw and Goldenpaw padded into the apprentice den and settled into a nest. Yellowpaw meowed " Are you going to faint again little mouse?"

Flamepaw looked down at his feet, Beepaw hissed " Answer little mouse!"

Goldenpaw hissed " Shut up Beepaw!"

Yellowpaw growled " Looks like someones talkative."

Goldenpaw lashed her tail side to side. Yellowpaw leaped on Goldenpw and Beepaw leaped on Flamepaw. Flamepaw did nothing but Goldenpaw struggled to get out of her grasp, she was about the yowl but then Yellowpaw hissed " Cover her mouth Swanpaw."

Swanpaw covered Goldenpaw's mouth with her paw. Poppypaw looked around in panic and meowed " I will be right back, so I make sure nobody comes in."

Poppypaw ran to the leader's den and meowed " Cliffstar come quick! I have no time to explain, just come on!"

Cliffstar leaped up and followed Poppypaw to the apprentice den. Before they went inside they overheard Swanpaw meowing " What do we do now? Do we kill Flamepaw?"

Cliffstar hissed " Hold it right there!"

All the apprentices looked up at Cliffstar and backed up, Beepaw meowed " Hi Cliffstar! Why are you here?"

Cliffstar hissed " Don't play dumb! You will have to be with the elders and feed them and you will not be trained until the next gathering!"

Yellowpaw hissed " What!'

Swanpaw kept her head down, Silverpaw sat down and sighed, Beepaw shivered. Cliffstar padded away and Poppypaw walked over to Goldenpaw and Flamepaw. Poppypaw meowed

" Hello! I am so sorry for earlier."

Flamepaw meowed " It's fine, it's not your fault."

Goldenpaw nodded. They fell asleep peacefully until the morning sun rised. Snakecoat meowed out, " Come on Poppypaw, Goldenpaw, and Flamepaw!"

Poppypaw padded out with Goldenpaw and Flamepaw following. Cliffstar meowed " First we will all patrol the borders."

Spidercloud meowed " We got to make sure Palmclan or Oakclan cats are in our territory."

Goldenpaw meowed " Why do they want to come into our territory?"

Spidercloud meowed " Oakclan has never had much prey and Palmclan has always been known for trying to mate with cats of other clans."

Poppypaw meowed " ew!"

Cliffstar meowed " We need to get going now."

They padded out of camp, they went to the edge of their border on Oakclan's side. Cliffstar meowed " Nothing here."

They continued moving then checked near Spruceclan borders. Cliffstar meowed " Nothing here as expected."

They finally got to the borders of Palmclan. Flamepaw heard a bush rusling and ran over to check it out. Flamepaw went in the bush and saw another apprentice, she smelt like Palmclan. His heart pounded as he looked at the white she-cat, Flamepaw hissed " Who are you! Why are you in Cliffclan territory!"

The she-cat meowed " I am Frostpaw of Palmclan. Fear me! But, who are you?'

Flamepaw meowed " I am Flamepaw."

Frostpaw meowed " Cute name, we are the flames and frost! Wanna meet each other here at noon?"

Flamepaw meowed " Sure!"

He went back to the group and went back to camp awaiting what would happen at noon.
