Ok, with no more delays let's start the chapter!

Previously after the end of Yamcha's latest challenge that Melvin gave him, Puar came flying like a bullet and told him that the Pokemon Egg that the scar-faced man had won from the Halloween challenge was finally hatching. Now the trio of individuals was in the living room watching as the Egg, who was on top of the pillow right in the middle of the couch, was wiggling and shining brightly.

"Whoa...it's so beautiful" Puar said, unable to look away.

"It feels like the egg is not actually hatching but taking shape into something else" Yamcha said, looking at it curiously.

"Oh yeah that reminds me"

Melvin grabbed Puar by the fur in his neck like a common housecat and literally summoned a wall to hide them from the field of vision of both Yamcha and the egg.

"Wh-What are you doing?" Puar asked, confused.

"He needs to be the one who is seen first by the egg, this is similar to bird eggs and the imprinting, the first one that he sees ends up becoming the parental figure" Melvin tells Puar.

"Oh! I guess that makes sen-"

Before Yamcha could finish what he was about to say the light shone brighter taking his attention back to the egg as it started to take form.

'I don't know what will come out of this but I swear, you're gonna be well treated' Yamcha thought, already considering it family.

When the light was done blinding everyone, the recently newborn pokemon starts opening his eyes. The first thing it sees is the black-haired martial artist man in front of him...first, it stares at him curiously like it's analyzing every inch of his face before giving a cheery barking like it was saying greeting his dad.

"Whoa..." Yamcha was staring at it.

"What is it?" Puar removes himself from the wall to take a look and is surprised "Eh? Tha...That looks like..."

"Like a Dog and a tiger had a baby" Melvin said.

The pokemon that was born from the egg looked like a quadrupedal canine, his fur was orange with black stripes along its back and legs, however, areas like the muzzle, chest, belly, and tail are colored beige, as is an additional tuft of fur on top of its head. Along his chest and tail, the coat of fur seems to be noticeably longer, his eyes are grey, the nose is black, and seems to possess large round ears with beige interiors. Two visible claws can be seen on its forepaws, while its hind ones have three toes each, the paws all have a brown pad. His overall height didn't seem to be more than 0.7 meters right now.

"Oh boy! You just got a Growlithe, that's neat" Melvin said, clapping his hands.

"Is that his name?" Yamcha asks.

"Its species? Yes, but if you feel like it, you can give it a name too"

Yamcha looks at the orange fur animal on his couch swinging its tail in anticipation. Being somewhat shy the former bandit tries by extending his hand first to him slowly, prompting Growlithe to give it a curious sniff on it before licking his hand. That felt like a good sign as Yamcha started to pet him in the head gently making the pokemon let out a soft woof, showing that it was enjoying it.

"Aww he looks so cute" Puar said, floating close to Yamcha but not too close in case the Pokemon might be the jealous type.

Melvin then started talking "Growlithe is a friendly and loyal Pokémon that will fearlessly defend its Trainer and territory from harm, even against larger, stronger enemies. It will fiercely bark at, bite, and chase away any perceived threat. He is also quite obedient and will wait motionlessly until given an order which may vary from some, this little guy also has a powerful olfactory sense. If it detects an unknown smell in its territory, it roars to flush out the intruder. It can smell the emotions of others, and never forgets a scent. However, strong, unpleasant smells can disable his sense of smell for short periods" Melvin said, finishing his words like it was out of a book.

"Cooool!" Puar had starry eyes of curiosity.

"Uhh...Ok Whoa! That was a lot of info right now" Yamcha sweat drops.

"In other words, he is awesome, ok? I'll write this up for you later" Melvin pouts.

Yamcha continued to pet the head of his new Pokemon Growlithe, the Fire-type enjoying the strokes from his master, even more so when he stroked the sides of his neck and ears. The Desert Bandit looked at Melvin and asked "This little guy sure looks energetic, do people call them by their species or given names?"

The small angel smiled and answered "Actually, pokemon sometimes are given nicknames, by some trainers depending on their gender and type. It gives them more of a personality and quality flair when you think about it, while some actually give Pokemon numbers"

Puar inquired in a curious tone "Numbers? Why?"

Melvin explained more in detail "Meh! There is a difference which I don't want to go into detail about now, let's just say that some people just have too many pokemon on their own, so it can get quite difficult sometimes to keep track of all of them. So they call out numbers instead, which make identifying the Pokemon they have among the crowd a bit easier"

Yamcha saw that he had a point, as trying to memorize names among a LARGE group of Pokemon would be a killer headache. So indeed, having the unique animals be given numbers instead would make things a bit easier for the owner.

The angel suggested "I believe that before anything else, you need to give this little guy a name. After that, train him so that he recognizes Puar as a friend automatically instead of a foe"

"Oh, cmon Puar is part of the family I'm sure he would not attack him like that for no reason right little guy?" Yamcha said, stroking the back of his pokemon who was on his lap.

"Should we try and name him now though? Naming is quite hard" Puar interjected.

"Most Growlithes ratio of birth are males and yours aint different, so try coming up with an interesting one for the little firecracker" Melvin said.

Yamcha starts rubbing his head, thinking about names that would have been good for the little furball, but none seemed to catch his interest.

''Hmmm... a name that really shows his traits, well he is a Fire-type, the appearance reminds me of the hybrid Liger... and he is from another world of the sort, like Melvin said... ah! I got it!'

Yamcha finally came up with a name that could potentially be the chosen one, looking at the puppy he suggested.

"How about Takibi? Out of all the names that mean fire this one sounds the best because it also signifies goals, how about it little guy?"

The Growlithe let its opinion be heard by barking loudly, a smile forming, and wagging his puffy tail to show that he liked the name very much. So from now on, his name is Takibi!

Puar put in "That's a great name you chose Yamcha, it suits him"

Yamcha smirked and replied "Yeah, this one is gonna grow big and strong I'm sure of it" He petted and gently ruffled the fur of the Pokemon, who simply smiled and barked in reply.

Melvin chuckled and put in "It seems that you are bonding well with your Pokemon. Now, time to get him trained up a bit! First, have him see Puar as a friend. Remember, Growlithe is loyal only to you, so having him bark and such at those who are your friends could be a problem. So first things first, we start with letting him know that your floating cat is an ally to be trusted"

The martial artist and floating magical cat knew that Melvin had a point, so they decided to tackle the issue right there and then. Yamcha turned to his latest addition to the group, the puppy wagging his tail happily at him. He gently turned Takibi to face Puar, the Pokemon quickly going from loveable to agitated as he growled and bared his teeth at the magical being.

Puar flew up a little in the air on instinct, seeing that again the fallen angel was correct when it came to the Pokemon.

"Whoa! Even though he was just born, he has some serious growl to him!"

Yamcha then lightly bopped his new canine companion on the nose. Not hard enough to cause damage, but enough to let the puppy know that what he was doing now was bad. This caused Takibi to stop growling, now looking in confusion at his master.

He stated gently but firmly "That's no good Takibi. No growling now. This is my dear long-time friend Puar. You need to learn to not growl at him, or attack him. He is family, not an enemy"

Takibi looked once again at Puar, who had a sweatdrop of nervousness on his face & a nervous smile to boot as he slowly floated down. The Pokemon started to growl again, but a stern look from Yamcha and a slight shake of his head told him that doing so was bad. So he calmed down a little but kept a glare on the cat.

Said magical being lowered himself so that he was eye-level with the Puppy Pokemon, a bit intimidated by the glare he was giving.

Puar thought 'If his glare is this intense just after being born, what will it be when he grows up?' He slowly let out his left paw, attempting to pet the fiery animal. However, Takibi opened his maw and tried to bite the paw, which was quickly retracted before it could chomp down on it!

Yamcha again bopped the head of his Pokemon partner, who whined and looked in sorrow at his master. The martial artist stated firmly "Behave yourself Takibi or I won't give you something tasty later"

The Pokemon whined a little but soon turned to the floating cat who was still nervous. Puar tried again, slowly reaching out to touch the head of the puppy. He soon made contact, Takibi flinching a little... but he soon started to enjoy the petting he was getting. Puar made sure to pet slowly and softly, to build up trust. Takibi growled softly, but it was more in a friendly way. Yamcha continued to observe, and it seemed that Puar had at least won the trust of the Pokemon. At least for now in a small way, which he knew would take more time and effort to grow.

Melvin nodded to it and stated "Very impressive, usually it takes far longer for a Growlithe to get accustomed to anyone else other than its owner, but it seems that he and Puar are getting to a good start"

Yamcha replied "Yeah but this is a normal reaction, he was just born today so he is still learning. It will take a bit of an effort on both their pats, but hopefully the trusting will grow"

The fallen angel looked to his pupil and inquired "Say, how about I make things easier for you by giving you something that most Trainers have? It will help you immensely when it comes to really raise and rearing Takibi into a potent partner"

The Desert Bandit looked at his master quizzically and asked "Really? What would that be?"

Melvin put out his right hand, a glowing ball of light forming in it. It was the size of a basketball, shrinking a little before exploding into sparkles of light...and appearing was a small, rectangular device that was red & on the back had an unusual insignia on it! He grinned and exclaimed exaggeratedly "Ta-da! I'll give you the PokeDex!"

Yamcha looks at it curiously before grabbing it "A poke what?"

"A Pokedex is nothing more than an electronic device that is used to catalog and provide information regarding various species of Pokemons, including their moves, habitats, what they eat and evolve into"

"Heh? That looks useful...Wait, did you just say evolve? Like a transformation?" Yamcha asked, curious now.

"Well when a Pokemon reaches a certain level of experience they go through the process of evolution, think of it as being their growing-up process from a kid to an adult. Some pokemon can evolve twice while others just once"

"That sounds cool! How many do Growlithe have?" Puar asked.

"Just one more but it's pretty awesome, maybe you should not look how he looks in the Pokedex, it would be a much bigger surprise" Melvin smirked.

"Thanks for that, it will be really helpful. But maybe it's better if we talk more later because I bet this guy here wants some food on his tummy ain't that right?"

"Woof!"

Growlithe eyes start to shine at the sound of food, be it a puppy or not these furry dog looking creatures we love so much as they are always voracious, putting anything on their mouth for whatever reason.

Now, what could he have in hand right now to make it? He didn't have dog food or anything similar to it, but this was a moment to celebrate his new family addition so making something better and tastier would be the right choice. It had to be something that the little guy could eat but that didn't have too much spice to it to upset his stomach, Yamcha did a quick search on the internet to see what he could possibly prepare and found something interesting.

"This will do"

This little treat wasn't too hard to make and he had all of it now, maybe substitute a few things. Ingredients such as five hundred grams of ground beef for protein, one and a half of raw grated apples for fruit, one tablespoon of parsley flakes as vegetables, and two tablespoons from one-quarter of honey. The next step was to carefully mash all those ingredients together into a specific shape for perfect flavor harmony and then fry it with olive oil.

And...Done! Hearty Meatballs are a treat full of protein and fiber with a balanced amount of fats.

"Oh whoa, those look, good man, you have done it quite easy too"

Melvin looked at the meat treat on the table but once he tried to take one his hand was slapped away by Yamcha.

"Hey, no-touch. These are specially made for Takibi to become part of the family" Yamcha said.

"Ow! Ah man c'mon they look so tasty" Melvin pouts.

Takibi sniffed at the meat treat, his nose picking up the small, subtle but significant details of the meal in front of him. He took a cautious bite out of one of the meatballs, chewing it well before swallowing it... and his eyes shot up, sparkles in them, as he let out a hearty yip before going to work on the rest of the meatballs! It seemed that Yamcha really hit the spot when it came to the taste of his food, according to the Pokemon that is.

Melvin was mildly impressed by the culinary craftsmanship of his pupil as he witnessed the Puppy Pokemon going full-tilt towards the meat meal. He looked to his student and stated with an impressed tone "I didn't realize you were such a master on cooking"

Yamcha smirked at the compliment and admitted "No need to flatter me, these are just meatballs man. But I know that taste needs to be key when it comes to eating food that is really healthy and necessary on all levels. Being alone in a desert, I had to learn how to cook for myself. Puar is a decent cook, but he only knows how to do the basics like rice or fried eggs"

Said magical cat blushed bashfully and admitted "It's true. While there are cookbooks here and there, they all belong to Yamcha. I only skim through some chapters to see what kind of food to help him out with"

After devouring his meal, Tabiki was yipping happily and now started to run in tight circles around his new master and friend. Yamcha smiled warmly at his new partner's attitude, leaning down and petting the head of Tabiki who nuzzled his palm before resuming running around him.

The martial artist chuckled softly and asked "Ah, you want to play, do you?" His response was a happy bark from the Fire-type Pokemon.

He finished up "Okay then, let's go and play!"

Yamcha walked out the door, looking to see the beautiful green landscape stretched out before him. He breathed in the deep air, loving the fresh and natural air that was not laced with pollutants from the city. While West City had everything anyone could ask for, it just didn't provide the same feeling that could only be found in nature.

He started to walk down the stairs of his home, Tabiki following close behind with Puar and Melvin following. Once they were down on the ground, Yamcha found something that he sort of forgot to put in the trash, the bone of an animal that had been skinned of its meat from lunch, it would work just fine now though.

Yamcha wiggled the bone in the air, his Pokemon's eyes latched onto it as he wagged his tail happily. Puar commented in a mirthful tone "If he continues like that, that tail is going to come off!"

The human threw the bone outside to a certain distance, telling Tabiki to go and fetch it. The Puppy barked happily and ran after the bone, showing that he was very speedy after just being born, and leaping up to catch the bone in his mouth spectacularly! The trio clapped at seeing the impressive display of agility and speed by the pup, who looked rather pleased and trotted back to his master.

However, for some reason there was a vulture situated nearby, maybe there was some dead carcass around? The bird was about the size of a turkey, feathers black as night and eyes a blood red. Said eyes were locked onto the Puppy Pokemon, automatically assuming that it would be a suitable meal even though it was alive... it could easily remedy that fact. Wings spread, it soon took off from its perch and glided towards the target!

Yamcha was glad to have an animal partner of his very own. Even though Puar was his buddy and companion, it was different from something like Growlithe. A subtle but significant difference as Growlithe was special but not in a magical way like Puar. And also being able to play with him in a way he could not with his floating cat companion.

He was pleased to see Takibi trotting to them with the bone in his mouth, but it soon faded when he saw the vulture coming in from behind!

He called out urgently "Takibi! Behind you!"

"That's weird, ain't that thing usually on desserts?" Melvin casually said.

The Pokemon was confused by the sudden shift in his master's demeanor, stopping as he was wondering what was going on. That is when his senses kicked in, instincts ingrained by his ancestors before him, as he turned and saw the large bird coming at him! He yelped and laid flat on his belly, the talons of the vulture barely scraping his fur as it looked to have ducked down in time to avoid the sharp claws of the immense winged beast!

The vulture screeched, not pleased to have missed its target on the first fly-by thanks to the human who had warned him. It did a U-turn move, ready to make another pass and hopefully gain his lunch.

Yamcha was about to go in and save his newborn friend...when he felt his body leaving the ground as if gravity were turned off! He looked to see that he was floating a few feet off the ground, not getting any kind of traction or friction since he was now weightless. A soft blue aura was around him, and he turned to see that it was Melvin's doing. He was using his power to levitate and hold Yamcha in place.

The martial artist exclaimed with a thunderous scowl on his face, "Hey! Let me go! I need to save him!" He was struggling in the grip of the fallen angel, but it was to no avail.

Melvin calmly stated "Hold on now, kiddo. Hold on. Just look and see what happens, trust me you're gonna love it"

Puar and Yamcha were confused on why the powerful being just told them to watch, but they had little choice in the matter. Even though Puar was not being held by Melvin's power, he knew that he would be ensnared too in the grip if he tried to do what his human friend did.

As the vulture was flying low now, claws ready to strike as it flew with impressive speed, Takibi rose back to his feet as he glared hard at the animal that was trying to capture him. His eyes glowed a sharp yellow making him more intimidating, Growlithe had just used the Pokemon move known as the *Leer!* A normal type move that decreased the defense of the enemy which caused the vulture to freeze, flinching as the yellow eyes seemed to pierce through its soul! This momentary lapse in movement and judgment caused it to hit the ground hard, skidding on the sand and going straight for the Pokemon!

Takibi let out a howl of determination as his mouth started to glow red, and from his maw emerged a softball-sized fireball! It struck the face of the vulture, making it slow down its skidding speed and soon coming to a halt in front of the Pokemon! Its face was singed, its beak now blacks from soot instead of yellow.

Yamcha and Puar were in shock, not Melvin though who looked very pleased with the turn in the situation. The Desert Bandit inquired, "Umm... Melvin... what just happened?"

The fallen angel grinned and answered "From what I have just witnessed, your Pokemon used two of its moves! It used Leer to make the big bird brain freeze in its flight, then used the fire-type move called Ember right, not too shabby for such a basic move. But he is still young, if he trains more even that will become strong'' Melvin finished.

The trio looked more to the Growlithe, who proceeded to stalk to the head of the dazed bird... and turned to deliver two bucking kicks to said cranium, causing the bird to go all swirly-eyed and knocked out. Seeing that it was done, Takibi turned and back-kicked some sand in his defeated foe's face before scampering off back to Yamcha.

Said martial artist was let go of Melvin's grip, kneeling down and petting the panting puppy. Melvin grinned and added "Looks like it has an Egg Move and it's Fighting-type Double Kick! Nice set of moves there"

After the situation was now much more controlled, some explanations were in order after seeing Growlithe fight like that. While Double Kick was an Egg move the others such as Leer and Ember were moves that he could learn by leveling up, but according to its generation which was VIII currently, Growlithe was still weak Level one but it showcased the great potential for someone who was just born.

"Pokemons are quite intelligent, give this fella energetic nature to explore and it will be a delight to see how it grows" Melvin said.

"I knew that this little guy had power from what you told me but boy was I surprised to actually see fire coming out of his mouth, it feels like he already knows how to fight" Yamcha said, impressed.

"It's all down to the genes and instincts of course. You should try and make some sort of training for him later, even something basic like running in circles, the more experience he gets the more abilities it will unlock"

"Huh, oh well I'm sure that with this Pokedex and my own spin on things then I came come with something" Yamcha said, once more rubbing Takibi fur.

"That's nice...I cant wait to see it happen" Melvin said, finding this scene to be heartwarming.

A\N: Well there you guys go, the Egg was that of a Growlithe! One of the best doggo pokemon in my opinion ;) and who also deserves a mega evolution, I mean cmon so many stories about him and he evolves just once? I think some of you saw that coming though I mean an egg that is orange with black stripes? Haha! The learned of moves that Growlithe can learn is based on the Generation VIII of moves based on games.
