"You're sure about this, you're pregnant?: Victor asked.
"Six weeks tomorrow. I know it sounds ridiculous, if you don't want to see me again, I underst-" Victor cut him off, kissing him deeply, wanting the younger man to feel the all of his love. When finally they parted, Victor stroked Yuri's short, dark hair.
"Are you alright, do you need anything?"
"You being here is more than I could ask for. I missed you so much."Yuri replied.
"You're amazing, our own-you want this don't you? I won't put you through it if-please tell me you're keeping it." Yuri nodded.
"I'm planning to have the baby, but after that, I'm not sure I should raise it. Maybe you should-"
"There's that lack of confidence again." Victor shook his head. "You'll be a great mother." Yuri glanced down at his belly.
"I can't take care of it, I can't feed our child or protect him or her. I could have an early labor, do you know what can happen if-" Yuri sobbed.
"You're sick, you can't control that. You came to the hospital, you're trying, some parents don't even care to do that. Try to take it easy." Victor soothed.
"Y-you want this, you're not just saying it to make me feel better about being weird?"
"Of course I want you to feel better, but don't you see how perfect this is? I came here to ask you to marry me and when I get here, you tell me you're pregnant. There's only one thing can make this even more perfect." He nuzzled Yuri's cheek lovingly.
"Yuri, let's get married and raise our baby together, please?" Yuri smiled faintly.
"O-okay." He agreed, enjoying the affection.
"As soon as you're well enough, let's do it. We'll invite everyone and we'll have to choose-"
"I might not be able to until the baby's born. This sickness can go on right up until I have him or her. I'm really worried about complications. Not so much for me, but if something happened-"
"Don't be. I know you'll be strong enough to get our child through this, and while you're taking care of our little one, I'll be looking after you."
But you already announced you'd be competing this year. I made you miss out on the last-"
"Yuri," Victor began in a soothing tone. " I didn't miss out on anything at all. I loved being your coach and I'd do it all again on a heartbeat. I only wish I had said I love you sooner. Our family is much more important."Yuri couldn't help but feel guilty for again keeping Victor away from the sport.
"Our little one, I like the sound of that. "Yuri admitted. "Do you think we'll have a son or daughter?"
"As long as you're both healthy, that's all that matters. I wouldn't mind having either one...Of course," Victor paused, smirking. "We could try for whichever one we don't get later.: Yuri shook his head.
"Shouldn't we focus on this one, for now, I mean what if it's one of those weird things that only happens once?"
"Maybe, maybe not. I suppose we'll find out. Right now, the only thing I know is that this was meant to be. You, me, and our little miracle.." The more Yuri listened to Victor talk about the child hearing the excitement and deep love for the child nestled inside him, the more Yuri's heart filled with joy, despite his illness. He only hoped Victor would feel the same way when the time came for their child to be born.
"Have you seen the little one, yet?" Victor asked.
"Yeah, I have a picture at home, you don't see much on it, but they'll be doing another one tomorrow to make sure there aren't problems.
"Would it be alright if I was here for that, I'd really like to be involved as much as you'll let me."
Yuri nodded, his fatigue was getting the best of him.
"Yeah," he said, closing his eyes. "This is your baby too, I want you to be involved in this as much as you want to be."
"Are you okay, Yuri?"
"Just really tired, sorry."
"No, if you need to rest, then I want you to have as much as you need. I'll be right here if you need anything. I love you, so much."
"Love you too," Yuri replied, drifting off to sleep.
"Yuri," Victor called, running his fingers through Yuri's hair. Still exhausted, Yuri attempted to ignore his love and allow himself to sink back into sleep.
"Come on, Yuri, the doctor wants to check on the baby."
"S'not til tomorrow."Yuri didn't bother opening his eyes. He heard Victor sigh heavily.
"You've been asleep for a long time, Yuri. It's ten in the morning, I was getting worried. You fell asleep yesterday afternoon and haven't been awake since."
"What?" Yuri forced himself to look up at the older man, noticing his mother standing at his side. "Are you serious?"
"It's true, Son," Hiroko confirmed. "You must have been so exhausted. Being pregnant can do that to you, especially when you've been sick. Victor and I spent the night here last night and you slept right through. Victor leaned down, kissing the younger man's head.
"The doctor should be back soon. She wanted to give you time to wake up. I've been looking forward to this since our talk yesterday. Have I told you lately how much I love you?"Victor nuzzled Yuri lovingly, causing the ill man to smile.
"A million times since then," Yuri replied.
"Still not enough then." A soft knock caught the group's attention. The doctor had returned, followed by a blonde nurse, both women smiled cheerfully.
"Good morning everyone," The doctor greeted. "Yuri, how are you feeling today?"
"Not good." The doctor nodded.
"Give yourself a couple of days, the medicine should help you feel a little better soon. Are you ready to see the baby?" Yuri nodded, looking to Victor. Hiroko lightly touched Yuri's hand.
"I'll come back in a few minutes. This is something the two of you are going to want to do together. I'll see you soon, baby." She excused herself from the room a moment later.
"So I'm just going to take a quick look and make sure the little one is doing okay, the heartbeat was in a good range, but we just want to keep an eye on it for the next few days. We'll check on how he or she is more frequently until Yuri's able to eat properly." Yuri looked away, gazing down at the blanket.
"You can't control this." The doctor said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Some people have more severe symptoms and their baby spends a little time here with us and more often than not, they're just fine, some have minimal struggles. We'll work together to manage this. There are plenty of options available to you." She assured him. "Try not to worry about it too much, sweetie." Yuri shivered as the covers were pulled down, exposing his belly to the chilly air of the hospital room.
"I know, it's always so cold in here." The nurse said. "I'll get this done as quickly as I can, I promise. " SHe squeezed the warm gel onto Yuri's stomach and began to move the wand Yuri's heart dropped as he watched the monitor and saw nothing.
"Y-you don't think I could' ve-"
"No, sometimes it just takes a minute to find them, that's all. Here's the little one now."Yuri allowed himself to let out the breath he'd been holding as the small shape appeared. Victor sniffled beside him.
"Yuri," He said quietly, in awe of the image, his heart melted instantly upon seeing his unborn child. "There's a little us in there."
"Baby's grown since the first one."Yuri pointed out.
"They grow up fast." The doctor replied. "Let's see if we can find- there it is."Victor glanced around as the new sound filled the room.
"What's that, are Yuri and the baby alright?" The nurse and doctor chuckled.
"That is your baby's heart. The little one seems to be doing very well, do you hear how strong that is?" The blonde woman said.
"See Yuri, I told you you're a great mother. " The older man nuzzled his cheek.
"I'm going to assume you two are going to want some picture?"
"Yes," Victor answered before Yuri could speak. "Yuri, I'm going to be a dad. When your mother gets back, would you be okay for me to make some calls?"
"I'll be fine."After finishing the examination, the doctor offered the pictures to Victor and Yuri. returning to her rounds. Moments later, Hiroko rejoined them.
"I'll see you soon.' Victor said, taking one of the pictures, kissing Yuri once more before moving into the hallway and out of sight.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, sitting down next to Yuri.
"Better in a way. I really didn't think he would want this, but you were right. He gets so excited about the baby and I think he was crying a little. "
"Things have a way of working out, Son. I'm so happy for you two. I can hardly wait to meet my first grandchild."Hiroko hugged him. "You're doing fine, baby. I have a feeling everything's going to be alright. Just remember. No matter what, your father, sister, and I are here for you. Your father's coming to see you later and you can tell him about it. Try to get some rest, Yuri."
"Do you want to see?" Hiroko smiled.
"I'd love to, Son," she said, taking the picture in her hand. She placed a hand over her heart as she gazed down at her grandchild. The image brought back memories of her own children and just as she had when she saw the first images of Mari and Yuri, her heart instantly filled with love.
