Black Fingernails, Red Wine

Kimiko sat on the rooftop of her home. It was night, Tokyo shone like a shining lantern, but soon, the lights would go out. Tonight was the Tokyo Bay Fireworks Festival. It was Kimiko's favourite time of year. She usually watched with her father, but this year, she was alone. She was waiting for someone

It had been four years since they parted ways. They were fully trained monks, ready to embark on their own adventure. But Kimiko wasn't happy. She didn't want to say goodbye to her best friend. His name was Raimundo.

As she sat on the roof in her red kimiko, she thought about how she would truly say how much she loved him. All she had to say was… 'I love you'.

Black fingernails, red wine
I wanna make you
All mine
A lot of people underground
You wanna get there
You gotta go straight down

But someone was watching her. He was on the roof, looking at her, thinking about how beautiful she looked, in her red kimiko, with black fingernails painted on. He had with him a bottle of red wine, ready to do what he had to do… express his true feelings to her.

There's a culture everywhere
Smoke clouds hang in the air
It's so loud, can't hear you talk
You and I should take a walk downtown

As she waited, she remembered all the time she spent with Raimundo. All the hard times, when they argued, fought and bossed around each other.

In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers
At the ground
The argument overall continues
In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers

'Kimiko.' She turned around. She couldn't believe it. Raimundo had arrived. He was wearing a dark blue kimiko, with his normal hair, and carrying a bottle of red wine.

'Raimundo.' She stood up. 'What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at home?'

'I know. I never got my chance to say goodbye. Plus, I got this for you.' He handed her the bottle.

'Red… just like my dress. Thanks.' She looked at Raimundo. She knew the time was right. She looked at her watch. 7:29pm. Just before the fireworks started.

'One thing before you go, Raimundo.'

'Yeah? What is it?' She walked in towards him, causing him to blush. Before he could react, she took his head and kissed him. At that moment, the fireworks started to explode in the sky. The kiss was passionate, but she pulled back, leaving Raimundo red in the face. But he knew why she did it.

'I love you, Raimundo.'

They turned to see the fireworks. Streaks of blue, red, yellow and other colours lit up the city, and the two lovebirds.

'I was thinking the same thing, Kimiko. I'll love you, always.'

They leaned in and kissed again, except more slower and even more passionate. They ignored all the bad stuff they went through in their lives, and decided to start a brand new life… together.
