Chapter 4,

Ness's POV,

I woke up disoriented, I didn't know where I was or how long I had been asleep, all I could remember was the rocking motion of the car going over the uneven road and Tommy's hand running through my hair. I remember taking a moment before getting in the car to just breath in the air, a smell so different then I'm used to after smelling blood, rotting flesh and death for so long it's a nice change. I took a moment to just be, I couldn't move to much because the wound on my side was throbbing and there was stinging coming from the wounds around my eyes. So, I moved my hands around to feel and noticed I was on a very comfy bed, home I'm home I could feel it now. I wanted to just lay here for a moment and think but my bladder made itself known the reason for me being a wake right now I needed a pee! I tried to move slightly but it just shot pain down through my wound I knew I wouldn't be able to go myself I just wanted to get a bit more comfortable but that wasn't happening especially with how my bladder was shouting at me,

"Tommy?"

I called for Tommy hoping he was close, I heard some shifting coming from next to me, so I tried again calling louder this time,

"Tommy?"

That's when I felt someone grab my hand and Tommy's voice full of sleep answer me, I felt guilty for waking him, but I had no choice right now.

"What is it my love? You ok?"

"I'm sorry to wake you Tommy."

"It's ok love, nothing to be sorry for is everything ok? Are you in pain?"

"I need a pee Tommy."

I heard the embarrassment in my own voice and knew Tommy heard it when he chuckled quietly,

"It's ok love don't be embarrassed; I've got you remember let me do all the work ok?"

I nodded my head in agreement, normally I would protest but right now the pain was extreme, and I really needed to pee, and I knew for me to heal and get better so I could be back on my feet I had to rest and hope that my eye sight would come back with the rest. I felt Tommy kiss my forehead he then moved my legs; he slid his arm under my waist and grabbed my hand with his other hand. I felt him lifting me like I weighed nothing, he had me up and moving us slowly in no time. I just leant against him letting him do all the work, I heard the door open and felt the floor against my feet as we were moving, I heard another door open and felt Tommy turn me, so my front was to his front.

"Ok love, you're in the bathroom. I'm going to pull your underwear down and help you sit down once your sat down I'll step out and let you pee in peace but once your done you call me back in ok?"

"I promise Tommy, I will call you. I promise you I'm going to follow the doc's orders and I will let you quite literally carry me around, I'll even let John and Arthur carry me if need be. I want to heal Tommy so I can be back in your arms."

I felt him kiss my lips then my forehead,

"Thank you my love, now I'm going to move your hands to my shoulders ok?"

"Ok."

He grabbed my hands and moved them to his shoulders, once he felt I had a grip, I felt his hands on my hips pulling my underwear down he then grabbed my hips again and helped me sit.

"You ok love?"

"I'm ok."

"Ok, I'll stand outside the door,"

I nodded and heard him leave the bathroom and the door closing.

Tommy's POV,

I helped Ness to the bathroom and closed the door waiting outside once I knew she was as comfortable as she was going to be in as much pain I'm sure she is in right now. I'm glad she told me she was going to follow the doc's orders about bed rest because there is nothing I want more than her healing right and being back at my side with me. I knew I had to tell her about some ideas I had that I wanted to run by her and get her opinion on too. Things with the betting shop had slowed down a bit and I knew it was because we weren't bringing in new money and that's what we needed.

I also knew I had some other things in the works, some people had contacted me about getting them so items they had been struggling to find so I have some Blinders on that task and it was one of the things I would need to tell Ness about, just because we had been apart for so long because of the war that meant shit to me our agreement of no secrets still holds up now more than ever and I was going to remind Ness of that regarding lying to me about her pain levels and such cause I knew that would be something she would do just to stop me from worrying regardless of the fact I would be worrying more than ever until she was healed properly and back on her feet with her eye sight. But until then I would be here with her every minute I could be, and I will happily be carrying her around, so she didn't have to put any strain on her wounds at all. I was brought out of my thoughts by Ness calling me,

"Tommy? I'm finished!"

"Coming love,"

I opened the bathroom door and closed it once in the room, I reached down for Ness's hands and put them on my shoulders again, I then grabbed her hips and helped her stand. I reached down and pulled her underwear back up then moved so I could wrap my arm around her and help her over to the wash bowl so she could wash her hands. Once done I helped her out of the room, I could hear Arthur and John downstairs and knew that it must be late, and they were closing up the betting shop for the night. I helped Ness back into bed and went to move but she held onto my shoulders gripping my shirt in her hands.

"Don't leave me Tommy."

"I wasn't leaving you my love I was just going to sit on the chair by the side of the bed,"

"Please lay with me? You won't hurt me; I just need you close."

"Alright love, but you tell me if the pain gets too much for you."

I took off my shirt and pants then laid next to her in the bed covering us both with the blanket, Ness moved slowly and put her head onto my chest my arm automatically going around her waist to hold her in place, so she didn't put any more strain on her wounds. I could feel her relax almost as soon as our skin touched and I knew she had been tense, the pain from her wounds the emotional pain from us being separated for so long only to be reunited and she can't see my face and we could only hope that her eye sight will come back.

Time skip a week.

Ness has been home a week and what a weeks its been, we all did our part and made sure she was on strict bed rest with me doing all the work I can from the bedroom, so I didn't have to leave her side unless I really needed too which has only been once during this week, I had a message from some of the Peaky boys telling me someone was interested in some motorcycles, so I spoke to Ness about it, and she told me to go and do what needs to be done. So, I made the arrangements for some of the boys to arrange a robbery of these bikes and I would take it from there today was Ness's check up at the hospital and I'm hoping all is ok, I was also hoping her eye sight was making progress even if it was slow progress.

I was brought out of my thoughts by a hand on my cheek, so I turned me head to look at Ness who had her head on my chest and my arm wrapped around her holding her close to me, we were still laying in bed as it was still early.

"You ok my love?"

I smiled at her and leaned my head down so I could place a soft kiss to her forehead,

"I'm fine sweetheart, you feeling ok?"

"I'm ok Tom, I can't wait to get this hospital appointment done though. I feel like todays going to be a good day."

"I know today's going to be a good day love."

I stood up and got myself dressed, then I got Ness some clothes out, I helped her out of the bed and helped her get dressed. Although her wounds were healing I knew she was still in some pain with the big wound on her side it was the biggest wound she had, and I knew it would take the longest to heal but she also couldn't see, and I knew that was bothering her the most.

I wrapped my arm around her waist, and she put her arm around me, I lead her out of the bedroom and downstairs this would be the first time she had been anywhere other then our room and the toilet.

"Ok love, were at the stairs feel with your feet ok? But remember I've got you and I won't let you fall."

"I know Tom, I trust you!"

I knew she did but hearing her say it still made my heart beat and my chest swell in pride. We made it downstairs it was slow going but I didn't care. We got to the dining room, and I saw that everyone was still sat around the table eating, it was John who spoke up.

"Well look who's out of bed!"

This had Ness giggling and shaking her head,

"Morning John-boy."

He chuckled and stood up he kissed Ness's forehead and nodded at me,

"Morning love, take my seat I'm finished."

I nodded my thanks to him, I sat down and pulled Ness into my lap holding her against me tightly. I grabbed a slice of bread and put some jam on it handing it to Ness who thanked me and started nibbling it. I looked to John and Arthur who were both watching Ness like a hawk, so I cleared my throat,

"Hows things in the betting shop?"

This was an open family but there were certain things me and the boys kept from Polly and Ada, but I told Ness cause I couldn't not tell her as we had a full disclosure relationship always had done and always will do it's the only way a relationship can truly last in this life. It was John who spoke up,

"It's all good Tommy, you don't need to worry bout a thing, just worry about that beautiful woman sat on your lap."

That had Ness giggling and me shaking my head and looking at John with a raised eyebrow, but Ness spoke up before I could say anything back to John.

"Always the charmer aye John-boy?"

"Well, when there's a pretty lady around of course I am,"

Before anymore could be said between them I spoke up sending a playful glare to my little brother,

"Trying to steal my girl there little brother?"

He put his hand over his heart and looked at me smirking,

"Would I do such a thing to you brother?"

Ness was giggling which had both me and John smiling, war had changed us all not a single one of us came back the same but hearing Ness giggling would always be the most amazing sound in the world to me even more so after being away from her for so long and not being able to hear it for years. Now we're back together I will do anything and everything in my power to hear that beautiful sound again. If only the boys could hear me they would think I had gone soft, but I suppose when it comes to Ness I am soft only for her though.

We were brought out of our moment by Pol speaking up,

"How you feeling Ness love?"

Ness shifted in my lap turning her head towards where she heard the voice coming from,

"I'm not feeling too bad today Pol, pain is still there of course but it's getting easier to deal with."

"That's good love, just be sure to let us know if we can do anything we're all here for you."

"Thanks Pol."

Ness then turned her face towards me,

"Tom, where's Finn?"

Before I could speak up Finn beat me to it,

"I'm here Ness."

"Yeah? Then why have I been sat down here for about ten minutes already and I've still got no hug from you?"

We all saw the red tinge to Finn's cheek letting us know he was blushing, he looked around from me then John and finally to Arthur and I knew he was worried about what we would think but I also knew where Ness couldn't see right now she needed to feel him to know he was around, and he was ok, so I looked at him and smiled jerking my head telling him to come here.

"Sorry Ness."

With that he stood up and made his way round the table he stood next to Ness and with slight hesitation he reached his arms and wrapped them around Ness's waist being careful of her wound and hugging her. I felt Ness relax the second she felt his arms hers going around him with only a little help from me, so she didn't knock his head or poke his eye. She placed a kiss on his forehead and smiled softly at him,

"I love you Finny!"

"I love you too Ness."

He pulled back and went back to his seat Ness turning slightly in my lap again,

"Tom? Can I have some water please?"

I looked to Pol who had already stood up before Ness could finish her sentence,

"Yeah baby, Pol's just getting you a glass."

"Thanks Pol."

Pol came back with the glass and handed it to me, I then grabbed one of Ness's hands pushing the glass into it so she could grab it, I then kept a hand on the bottom of the glass to help guide her and in case she dropped the glass by accident. Once she had a few sips she let it go back into my hand, so I put it on the table.

"Tommy what's the time we need to leave!"

I checked my watch and noticed she was right, if we didn't leave now we would be late.

"Shit! Yeah we need to leave Darlin,"

I helped her stand up, me following I pushed the chair in and looked to John he was going to be driving us because I didn't want Ness to be sat on her own just in case the pain got too much for her. He nodded at me and stood up,

"Right, I'll bring the car around."

I helped Ness to the front door where I helped her put her coat on and did the buttons up for her, I then put my coat on and waited until I heard the car outside before I opened the door. Ness hasn't had any contact with anyone but the family since coming back from the hospital and I knew she was ok with that because she didn't want anyone but us seeing her like this, to her it was showing weakness to outsiders and that was the last thing she wanted. I was standing there watching her I was worried for her eyesight, I had hope that her eyesight would come back but I didn't want her to get her hopes up and I didn't want her to think I would love her anything different without her sight. I cupped her cheek which had her leaning into my hand,

"Baby I know your hoping today is going to be a good day and I fucking hope it is, but I don't want you getting your hopes up because I don't want you getting hurt. I don't want you to think I will love you any differently because you can't see right now, you are still the love of my life and that will never change. But I will also pay for any doctor or travel wherever is needed for you to heal properly."

She smiled at me, and I could see my words were needed I knew she would be worrying about it, but she didn't need to because I would love her for the rest of our lives and into the next life. She is all I ever want no one has or will ever catch my eye like Ness has.

"I'm not worried about my eyesight, I just have a feeling it will come back once it's healed, I mean I am already seeing more colours then I was last week, I'm more worried about the wound on my side the big one that's going to take a while to heal and your already helping me do everything plus you've not been to work all week I don't want you to resent me for anything."

I moved so I was stood directly in front of her and cupped her face,

"My love you never have to worry about me resenting you, it will never happen! I love you through everything we go through, and in fact I love being here and helping you out right now we spent years apart to fight in a war. During those years I never thought we would see each other again, and when I had those rare moments of hope of seeing you again I never thought it would be you hurt. You are my wife, my heart, and the love of my life I will never resent you, leave you or hurt you."

I leaned down and placed my lips against hers, the moment our lips touched it was like our souls joined again like they did when we first kissed all those years ago. I ran my tongue along her bottom lip asking for entrance she gladly gave me, her arms coming up to wrap around my neck, my hands going around her waist and pulling her closer, her hands running through my hair and gripping tightly which had me groaning with desire. We were brought out of our moment by the front door opening and John popping his head round, when he saw us pull apart slowly he smirked at us knowing he had interrupted us.

"Car's out-front lovebirds."

Ness giggled and pulled away from me, holding her out hand for me to grab which I took without hesitation. I guided her out to the car helping her into the back seat and me climbing in after her putting my arm around her shoulder and pulling her closer to me. John got in the front and started the car pulling away instantly,

"Thanks for driving us John-boy."

"Aye no worries love, I'll have you there in no time."

Ness shifted so she was laying more on me, so I looked down and noticed her eyes were closed and she had a soft smile on her, I reached with my left hand and put her hand on my thigh putting my hand over hers, linking our fingers together. There wasn't anytime for talking not really each of us in our own heads, I knew Ness was nervous about what the doc had to say, she hated being on bed rest, but she has done it.

We were on the road for about half hour when I felt Ness's weight fall on me completely, so I looked down to see she had fallen asleep, I wrapped my arm around her tighter and held her close to me just letting her rest I leant my head back on the seat and closed my eyes also just thinking things over, I didn't realise how much time had passed when I was tapped on the knee I opened my eyes and looked at John,

"We're here Tommy,"

I opened my eyes and softly shook Ness

"Sweetheart we're here,"

I leant down and placed a kiss on her forehead she fluttered her eyes open and smiled at me softly. John got out and opened Ness's door helping her out and held onto her until I walked round and wrapped my arm around her waist.

"I'll wait out here good luck love."

Ness smiled at John and thanked him while I just nodded at him, I helped Ness into the hospital and over to the reception desk, where a nurse was sat doing some paperwork I cleared my throat when we reached the desk which had her looking up to us,

"Can I help you?"

"I have an appointment with Doctor Rogers."

The nurse picked up a clipboard and looked through it,

"Ah yes please take a seat and I will find Doctor Rogers for you,"

"Thank you."

Time skip, I'm not going to bore you with the visit to the hospital.

Within the hour we were walking back out of the hospital and over to John we both had big smiles on our faces because Ness was starting to see a bit better, she couldn't see properly but she could see blurry outlines of things and people which was better then no improvement, and her wound was healing perfectly he took the stitches out of the not so bad cuts and wounds but left the stitches in the big wound on her side. He also said she can start doing small things as long as she did plenty of rest as well which she was happy about, I knew she hated being stuck in bed, so I was going to have her sit in the office with me a lot, so I knew she didn't overexert herself.

I helped her back in the car and John was pulling away as soon as Ness was comfortable, John spoke up once we were on our way.

"So how did it go love?"

"Really well John-boy, the stitches have been taken out expect in the worst wound, and my eyesight is improving so I can just make our blurry outlines of things now which the doc seems happy with. His actually discharged me now, said I can take the stitches out myself when I need to or get Tommy to do it. I still have to take it easy and rest a lot so your be seeing me in the betting shop a lot in Tom's office."

That had me raising my eyebrow at her, yeah I knew I was thinking it, but I didn't think she would say anything about it or even bring it up herself but thankfully she did, she saw me looking at her out the corner of her eye and turned her head towards me smiling.

"Come on Tommy you don't think I didn't know what you were thinking when the doc said about me still needing a lot of rest? I've known you my whole life, we may have been separated for the last four years but I still know how to read what's in your head it's all in your eyes my love, I can read you as easily as you can read me."

That had me chuckling and shaking my head, I then leant down and kissed her forehead then her eyes, cheeks, nose and then her lips. I pulled back and just looked into her eyes,

"I love you."

She smiled at me and in that moment I could see what she meant; her eyes gave her away I could see everything without her needing to tell me. All the love she had for me was just shining through she reached up with her right hand and placed it against my cheek which had me leaning into her hand,

"I love you Tom, more then words can ever say."

We both looked back to John who was laughing softly, I raised my eyebrow at him in question which had him smirking at me,

"She has a point Tom, you two have been inseparable since she was five weeks old. It's like Ma said your soul mates. Besides even I was thinking about having her sit with me in the office so I could keep my eyes on her, she may be your wife Tom but me and Arthur love her like she's our little sister you know that."

It didn't take us long to get home and John dropped us off outside the house so he could go park the car. I helped Ness inside and took her coat off then mine putting them both on the hook by the front door. We then made our way into the dining room where we saw Pol, Arthur and Finn sitting. I knew Ness was getting tired, so I just took her hand and nodded to the stairs,

"Come on love, you've had enough for today."

I helped her upstairs, helped her get changed and then to the toilet then helped her into bed, I sat on the edge and kissed her softly,

"I'll be back love just gonna go fill in Pol and Arthur and grab some paperwork that needs doing, I'll do it up here though so you're not alone."

"Tommy it's ok sit with your family and do the paperwork, I'm just gonna go to sleep anyway. Just promise me your come to bed when you're finished?"

"Are you sure darling? I don't want you to feel alone,"

"And I don't Tom, I promise you. Do what you need to then come to bed,"

"Ok love,"

I leant down and kissed her again lingering for a moment longer just enjoying feeling her lips against mine, I pulled back and put my hand on her cheek running my thumb along her lips smiling at her,

"I love you my love."

"I love you Tommy!"

"If you need me call me ok? Goodnight love,"

"I will Tom, now go! I'm sure Arthur and John have missed you this week, go have a drink at the Garrison with them. Pol will be here if I need anything, and she can always send Finn to get you ok?"

I didn't feel like going to the Garrison tonight, but I wasn't about to argue with her, so I nodded my head smiling,

"Ok love,"

I got up and closed the door softly once I knew she was comfortable, I walked back downstairs where even Ada was waiting now. I sat down and a whisky was placed in front of me which had me nodding my thanks, I took a sip then looked up at everyone with a raised eyebrow, it was Pol that spoke up.

"Well? Don't make me beat it out of you Thomas, how did the appointment go?"

I smirked at her if there was one thing Polly wasn't it was patient,

"The appointment went well; she had her stitches out expect for the big wound they've been left in. Doc signed her off and told her she can take the stitches out or talk me through it, her eyesight has improved a lot. She can see blurry outlines of things now she said its like looking through really dirty glass and fog, she still has a bit of pain with her eyes but nothing the doc is concerned about. She is aloud to do things but nothing too much, so she will be sitting in the office with me a lot. We just have to make sure she doesn't bend a lot or lift heavy things, until her stitches are out."

I saw Pol take a breath; I knew she had been worried about Ness a lot the past week we all had me especially. Ness doesn't like to stay in one place she doesn't like to be motionless, but she also doesn't like not helping and I know the past week has been a nightmare for her, and now that she can do some movement even with it being limited I knew she would be helping me in my office as much as she could or well as much as I would let her anyway.

I took this moment to just sit thankful Ness was ok, that her wounds were healing, and her eyesight was healing too, I know she was hurt when she woke up and couldn't see she told me the first night we spent together in our own bed that she was more hurt that she couldn't see my face or look into my eyes or see my smile it's one of the reasons I made sure to smile whenever I spoke to her so she could hear the smile in my voice. I was getting tired myself, so I stood up and stretched my stiff muscles,

"It's been a long day, so I'm going to go rest with Ness. John thanks for being our driver today much appreciated."

"Aye no worries Tommy."

"Night all."

I heard a multitude of goodnights, and walked up the stairs, I got to the bedroom and as quietly as I could I opened the door and closed it behind me, I looked at the bed and saw Ness was sound asleep, I took of my suit and left my boxershorts on (So I know or well I don't think boxer shorts were out back then, but I cant actually remember what men wore as underwear, so I do apologise.) I slowly got into bed next to Ness and slid an arm under her pulling her towards me trying not to wake her, I leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead then relaxed into the bed. Tomorrow would be a busy day as I had to go to Charlie's yard and take a look at these bikes some the blinder men had got for me and make sure I could sale them on to the right person but right now I let the feeling of Ness in my arms lore me into a peaceful night's sleep which I was thankful for, as a peaceful night of sleep was few and far between since the war even for Ness.

AN, So this actually took longer to write then I thought or hoped it would, so I do apologise for that. This was just a filler chapter really Chapter 5 will have a time skip and will be the beginning of season 1 of Peaky Blinders, I am going to change the time line a little if I remember rightly Peaky Blinders started a year after them being back from war the change I am making means it starts only 6 months after they come back. Ness will be fully healed only having some problems building up her strength, also her eyesight is better she still gets moments of double or blurred vision with headaches but nothing the doctor is worried about. I am going to be honest; this story will contain a lot of hate for Grace as I do not like her and I don't think she should of married Tommy, in fact I think Tommy should not of fallen in love with her. Anyway, if you don't like Grace dislike then this story is not for you, Once again I apologise for the long wait, I hope you like this update, I am hoping to have chapter 5 up by next week.
