Cure Narrative 34: This Very Moment
Season: Heartcatch
Characters: Yuri T. Cologne
Summary: Though it may rain tomorrow, I only want to relish the happiness in this moment
Italics: thoughts
Yuri heaved a light sigh as she moved away from her textbooks.
"Is something wrong?" Cologne flew to her desk, noticing her distress.
"Would you believe me if I deny?" Yuri gave him a look.
"What do you think? I've known you for more than a year and a half," he chuckled, "What are the examinations tomorrow?"
"Chemistry and World History."
"Don't tell me you're not confident, or else I'm betting that the sun will set in the east today."
Yuri giggled a little, which was Cologne's intention. "It's just that I feel like I'm not familiar enough with the details."
"Although you've been doing serious revision for almost four hours straight?"
"...yes."
"Alright then," he picked up the textbooks that were clearly too large for him (which Yuri still found comical), and began looking through the pages, "What prompted the end of the détente period?"
"The Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, which threatened the United States' oil supply and thus, plunged the world into Cold War again."
Cologne glanced at the other book, "If you were given three liquids, containing aluminium, magnesium and potassium respectively, how would you classify which is which?"
"Carry out flame test, potassium would turn the blue flame of the Bunsen burner into lilac-coloured. Pour the other two into sodium hydroxide, both would give out white precipitates, then add more sodium hydroxide until the precipitates in one test tube dissolves. That one is aluminium, the other is magnesium."
The pop quiz continued for ten minutes or so, until Cologne got frustrated since Yuri completely aced it.
"Remind me, why in the world were you stressed again?" Cologne slammed the books closed.
"Well this is the graduation exam for junior high," Yuri shrugged.
"You need some de-stressing."
"My stress is at a healthy amount."
"There is no healthy amount for stress."
"There is! I study biology and you don't."
"This is unrelated to biology and speaking of which, I do recall your biology teacher mentioned that resting once in a while facilitates the process of studying."
Yuri paused due to a lack of arguments.
"Well?" Cologne probed.
Yuri seldom relents in arguments, but she had come to discover that Cologne had this real talent of being convincing when needed to.
Convincing enough for her, at least.
"Fine, you win," she sighed, "Let's go for a walk, maybe I do need one."
He grinned, "Great! But I have an even better idea." He flew to her shoulder and changed into a flying cape.
"Cologne?"
"Let's go for a fly!"
It was the first time she flew as Tsukikage Yuri, and not Cure Moonlight.
Soaring through the air without having to put her life at risk fighting massive magical monsters was indeed quite soothing, Cologne was wise to have made such a suggestion.
"So... where are you taking me?" Yuri inquired.
"Do you have anywhere in mind?"
"Not really."
"Alright, I... actually didn't plan to take you anywhere, I just thought a short flight would be relaxing."
It was quite true. Feeling the wind dancing through her hair, looking down at the mini people and buildings in Kibougahana, her stress was carried off to the limitless sky.
Yuri had never been a very social girl, she had never had any close friends before junior high, aside from the little boy living nearby of course. Thus, she never really understood the concept of going out of your way for someone else's sake, devoting time and effort to make someone smile.
Sometimes, people praised her for being a genius, she would always want to list out all the things she didn't know.
Such as not knowing how "friends" worked.
The one who gave her the answer was Cologne.
Cologne, who wasn't even a human, had come to Earth with a mission to find a girl, and transform her into a warrior that can fight and protect.
There was no need for any friendship.
He became her friend nonetheless, constantly doing small things with his small hands to retain her smile.
Time had flown by since their encounter in that one and a half year's time, Yuri had grown fond of her fairy partner. It had became difficult to imagine, or remember, a time when he wasn't there by her side.
"Moonlight, look!" Cologne suddenly braked, "The sunset!"
Yuri raised her head, and beamed at the beautiful sky, tinted pink and purple slightly. Though she had heard somewhere that these colours meant it may rain the next day, she only wanted to relish the beauty in this moment.
Since the sun was already beginning to set, Cologne decided to bring her back.
"Thanks, Cologne, that helped," Yuri smiled as Cologne changed to fairy form and flew in front of her.
"It's no problem at all," Cologne smiled back, "Now, isn't it about time to cook dinner?"
Yuri just took Cologne into a hug, tightly, wordlessly.
"Moonlight? What's wrong?"
"Nothing... everything is perfect..."
Just let me relish this moment...
"Thank you, truly."
