As the tonic chord on Ellen's guitar which told of the finale of the piece sounded, Setsuna applauded softly.
"I see rehearsal's going great!" Setsuna beamed, "I'm sure the first ever concert in Labyrinth would be lovely!"
"Thank you so much for inviting me to perform," Ruru bowed, "I am honoured."
"Oh no, I should thank all three of you for agreeing," Setsuna said, "Especially you, Ruru, I understand that performing without Emiru must make you nervous, but we really wanted to keep the first ever concert in Labyrinth relatable to the citizens, therefore I want you three to perform, Soular and Westar agreed as well."
"Yes, I understand your reason," Ruru nodded, "According to analysis, the popularity of a concert with non-villain-turned-Cures in it compared to one without is 59% lower."
"Come on, let us move on to the next piece," Towa said.
The door to the music room suddenly swung open after a few knocks, stepping in were the Kiryuu twins.
"Oh my, have you already begun?"
"It's okay," Ellen called out, "Come on in."
"We're just about to rehearse the second song," Ruru reported, "Please do listen if you wish to."
The second song was sung by Ruru and accompanied by Towa. Ruru's sweet voice harmonised perfectly with Towa's impeccable violin playing, it seemed to greatly please the Kiryuu twins.
"Beautiful," Kaoru applauded as the song concluded, "The harmony is just beautiful!"
"Ruru, your singing is amazing," Michiru praised, "Too bad me and Kaoru can't sing."
"Eh? Is that so?" Towa pondered, "I'm sure you'll sing well if you tried."
"Oh, no, we didn't mean that," Kaoru explained, "We meant that we are incapable of singing."
"Incapable?" Ellen questioned, "How can that be?"
"Of course, to you who were born in Majorland, singing comes naturally," Michiru sighed, "We were born in Dark Fall, we were never meant to sing."
"Well that applies to me as well," Setsuna argued, "Labyrinth didn't have music either, but even I have learnt to sing."
"Then certainly you can learn to sing as well," Towa suggested, "Let us teach you."
She played a C major scale on her violin, then she waited for the twins to sing along, but nothing came. Michiru and Kaoru just stared blankly at her.
"Perhaps we should start with something simpler," Ellen stated, "Towa, give me a G."
Towa played the note, and Ellen hummed to it.
"Try," Ellen said to the twins.
They opened their mouths, but no sound came out.
Ellen and Towa glanced at each other, "Well, this could be tricky..."
"Maybe Ruru can try," Setsuna pointed out, "Her situation was more similar to yours."
"I'd be happy to," Ruru picked her guitar up from the stand.
"So, how did you learn to sing so beautifully?" Kaoru asked, "Aren't you an android?"
"Emiru was the one who taught me," Ruru smiled warmly as she recalled the first time she sang, "Emiru said music can give the heart wings to fly, but what we have to do is allow our hearts to be free, only then will we be able to sing."
"Close your eyes," Towa said.
"Feel your heartbeat," Ellen said.
"Try to visualise the sound that you will sing," Setsuna said.
The twins followed each of their advice.
Ruru placed a hand on each of their shoulders, "Let your heart fly freely, place your feelings in your voice, take a deep breath and..." She strummed a G on her guitar.
Then, two voices rang clearly across the room.
Michiru and Kaoru opened their eyes and grinned at each other, "We did it!"
The others didn't tell them that the note they sang was a bit off and unstable, just because the twins were so delighted about singing the first note in their lives.
"Maybe they were right about how music comes naturally to me and you, Ellen," Towa stated softly, "Maybe we took it for granted."
"Yeah, maybe we did," Ellen agreed, "I'm glad that Ruru managed, now there's no doubt we can bring music to the people of Labyrinth as well."
"I can hardly wait," Setsuna smiled.
