Cure Narrative 49: Just Like the Sky

Season: Splash Star

Characters: Michiru K. Kaoru K.

Summary: They were happy to have been allowed to live.

Void.

No colour, no sound, no life, nothing.

Such a place was their home, where the heaven neither smiled nor frowned, where the wind neither sang nor wept.

Hollow, silent, dead, just like their hearts.

But they believed. They believed that if, someday, someone, by some miracle, managed to restore the inert Fountain of Sky to its former glory, then perhaps, there might just be a chance that their hearts would follow.

Holding onto such beliefs, the twins sat back to back each and every day, solaced by the fact that they had each other, and lived their lives out in accordance to their master's will.

Even though they knew they were destined to vanish for the Fountain to be revived.

The two of them could not help but beam from ear to ear as the sunlight enfolded them in a cosy embrace, the wind kissing their cheeks, and the sight of the iridescent fountain gracing their vision.

"What do you think, Michiru, Kaoru? This. This is the Fountain of Sky, the Fountain you revived!"

An odd sensation came to their eyes, a warm, tingly wave rising up from their chests. Soon, they found their vision blurred as droplets rolled down their cheeks.

"It's... it's magnificent!"

"Just like... what we've always imagined..."

"How... odd. Why... can I not stop crying...?" Michiru inquired, covering her eyes.

"I don't understand... even though my heart is racing with such elation... the tears just... won't stop..." Kaoru asked as well, trying to dry her tears in vain.

Saki and Mai stepped forward to embrace the twins instead of answering with words.

The twins' hearts were now tinted in dozens of hues just like the Fountain of Sky. It was lovely.

And strange.

And confusing.

The twins had always been mechanical marionettes. They had never felt so many different emotions rushing through their minds all at once.

But they were absolutely sure about one thing.

"Saki, Mai," they said in unison, "I'm... happy to have lived...!"
