Captain Jack Harkness ran his hand through his short dark hair, it was weird where his life had taken him, he sighed as he looked around his office, there was so much he didn't know and there was only one man, one time-lord he could ask but there was no way he could contact him.

He stared at the images he had placed on the desk Jack touched the first one lovingly, it was picture of a young blonde woman, her hair was a little shorter but the face, the body and especially that smile was exactly the same, it was a smile that lit up a room, it was a smile that you had to grin back at.

"Rose, my beautiful Rose." He touched his fingertip to her face and remembered the last moments he saw them, he had told Rose that she was worth fighting for and he touched his lips gently to hers, tears came to his eyes as he thought of her she had been a bright spot in his life.

His gaze then went across to the picture next to it. This image was of a man, it was a face he didn't know but it contained the soul of the man that he did. The Doctor. Jack traced over the smiling man and drew his finger to one of The Doctor's hands. Jack turned his gaze to the jar that sat on his desk containing a hand, the Doctor's hand, the one he had lost at Christmas protecting them all, he had watched from Torchwood and all he wanted to do was be there with them, fighting with them but he couldn't and by the time he had arrived it was too late The Tardis had gone, he had missed them.

"What happened up there?" Jack whispered. One minute a Dalek had killed him, he remembered feeling his body die and then he was taking big gulping breaths it had been like he had been underwater and then as soon as he surfaced you could take in the air. Why had they left him? Why did the Doctor have a different face? There were so many questions but no answers.

Jack's memory went once more back to that last goodbye and he had told the Doctor he had been better off before he met him, met them. The Doctor and Rose gave him his conscience, they had changed him profoundly Jack had also kissed the Doctor goodbye, two pairs of lips so different one pair soft and sweet and the other strong and sensual.

His colleagues here see him as an enigma, Jack knows that they want to know about him but he won't let them close enough, there are only two people that he will, the two people he loves and no one will ever replace them.

His Doctor and His Rose.

One day he knows he will see them again; he has hope in his heart. Jack knows that they didn't have a choice when they left him; he wants to know what they went through, he wants to be able to hold them both. He wants to feel Rose 's curves against his own body and too look into the eyes of this man who he knows but doesn't, he wants to press his lips to the Doctors to see if they feel and taste the same. He doesn't want to be alone anymore but he will be until they come back to him and he'll stay here waiting, it doesn't matter if it is an hour or an eternity he has the patience and when they are reunited he knows that once again Captain Jack Harkness will be whole again.

The End
