Second Chances for Nathan Chapter 13, Part 6, Page 86

Dee checked with Elizabeth to see if she was to start teaching at Brookfield Friday. As luck would have it, she was free and clear to go to Benson Hills with Nathan to the concert! She told Nathan the good news and he was happy to be able to proudly escort her.

"Bill, Dee is going! I hope you were able to arrange to borrow Henry's automobile." Nathan asked.

"Yes, he is being so helpful lately." Bill replied. "I think I like the 'new' Henry. We've got to see who else will be getting an automobile, as this is the way to go now, especially with the ladies."

"Don't count on me yet" Nathan answered, "but I would think that Lee will be looking for one soon."

"Oh yeah, Rosemary has already informed me that they will be buying one soon, so if she says so, I guess that's the word." Bill laughed.

Dee was not sure just what she would wear to Benson Hills. She had one dress, and thought it was just too plain. So, after school let out, she walked into town to the dress shop. Rosemary and Clare were both there. They were busy putting up the new fashions in the window. Dee looked surprised at the shorter hemlines and was interested, but what would the town say if the new teacher wore a risque dress she wondered.

"Hello there!" Rosemary welcomed Dee. "Can I help you? I'm sure you would like something, well, a bit more fun to wear."

"Rosemary?" Clare looked at her. "Dee, is there something special you have in mind?"

"Ladies, I am going to a concert in Benson Hills and I need a dress to wear. Any suggestions?" Dee asked.

"Wonderful! Who are you going with?" nosy Rosemary asked.

"Rosemary!" Clare declared again.

"It's all right," Dee laughed. "Nathan is escorting me and we are going with Molly and Bill."

"Well then," Rosemary directed, "come over here. With your blue eyes I have just the perfect blue satin dress and matching gloves. You'll look splendid! Go behind the curtain over there and let's see how it fits!"

"Wait, I need to know how much it costs first." Dee hesitated.

"Nonsense, we take payments if need be. Go ahead, let's see it on you!" Rosemary smiled.

Dee came out with the dress on and the ladies were oohing and ahhing at her. She couldn't help but smile as she was very pleased too. "This is lovely!"

"Actually, you are lovely!" Clare complimented Dee.

"We can do any adjustments tomorrow and have it ready for your date." Rosemary nodded.

"Thank you, I'm so excited. I haven't been to a concert since I left college."

"Do you have accessories? Shoes, bag, jewelry? I have a bag and jewelry you can borrow, if that helps." Rosemary offered.

"Oh, are you sure?" Dee asked. "I have a pair of dress shoes, but I appreciate your offer."

"Consider it done. When you come for the dress tomorrow, I will have the bag and jewelry here too."

"Wonderful, thank you! I have to ask, how are you doing Clare?" Dee asked.

"I'm very good! The baby is moving and kicking up a storm, Dr. Faith says the baby's heartbeat is strong and I'm growing bigger and bigger." Clare smiled.

"We'll be having a baby shower soon. Plus, we're busy sewing baby clothes and helping to get the baby's room decorated and ready" Rosemary said.

"I have to talk to Fiona about a hair style too." Dee said as she thanked the ladies for the help. When she got to Nichols and Dimes, Fiona was just finishing up making an appointment with Molly.

"Hello! I bet you're here to get a hairstyle appointment too!" Fiona grinned.

"Yes, I am Fiona. Good to see you Molly." Dee remarked.

"Are you excited?" Molly asked. "Dinner and a concert with our men!"

"Yes, it'll be great to hear a concert" Dee smiled.

"And with someone special too!" Fiona winked. "So, I'll do you both Saturday morning. Have your men come here for a haircut and shave and you'll all be ready to enjoy a fantastic evening! But, one condition, you have to give me the full scoop!"

Dee walked Molly back to the infirmary to see if Faith wanted company to walk home. Faith was just closing up when they walked in. They explained to Faith why they came in together and then locked up and left for their homes. Faith was happy for them both, but she did feel a little left out. Dee picked up on that and talked with her over dinner.

"Faith, I felt alone for so long. I wanted to teach so badly, and kept getting rejected, so the music store was a compromise. My future seemed dull and I had no one I could go to. I know exactly what you feel now. I had to learn the hard way that timing is not always when we want it, but look at me now. All I can say is your time will come, I know what a remarkable woman you are, so just know that I am here and will be ready to listen in the meantime."
