Second Chances for Nathan Chapter 13, Part 8, Page 88
Dee woke up with a huge smile on her face! As she hummed, she went downstairs to grab a cup of coffee. Faith was already making breakfast.
"Smells great down here." Dee complimented.
"Ready to eat?" Faith asked.
"Sure, I have a little time before I bathe." Dee figured.
The two ladies talked excitedly about the concert and what Dee needed to do to get ready. She had to bathe, get her hair done, and pick up her dress. Dee was ready for her bath after the water got hot and took a few minutes to soak and dream about her date with Nathan.
Nathan was up and doing his rounds when he heard a scream coming from the Henderson farm. He rode Newton in a gallop towards the farm. As he got closer he heard a gunshot. When he got off Newton, he had his rifle ready and quietly approached the farmhouse. He walked up the porch, but didn't hear a sound. He quickly looked around and heard noise coming from the barn. As he approached, he heard the click of a rifle. He stepped inside his heart racing. As he looked around, there was Mr. Henderson with his rifle pointed out the barn window and his wife holding her hand over her mouth staring out the same window.
He softly so as not to surprise the Hendersons, asked "What is going on here?"
"What in tarnation?" Mr. Henderson swiftly turned around and saw a rifle in Nathan's hand and gulped.
"Are you all right? What was the gunshot about?" Nathan inquired.
"Oh, a damn coyote has been after our lambs and chickens. That dang scavenger is bold coming out here in the middle of the day! I missed him, dog gone it, but I hope I scared him enough to stay away at least for a little while." Mr. Henderson shook his head.
"You scared me," Nathan said relieved, "but it won't scare me from coming back."
"Sorry Constable, but I had no idea anyone was around, thanks for checking."
"Your welcome. Have a better day Mr. and Mrs. Henderson." Nathan left. After he finished his rounds, he stopped over at Nichols and Dimes to see Fiona for his shave and haircut. Fiona told him to be ready for a beautiful date. As he walked out, in walked Bill.
"You too?" they both asked the other at the same time and laughed.
Dee and Molly were both talking to Fiona about ideas for their hair. They decided on having their hair done in an up do. Fiona questioned, "Are you sure, both of you have lovely long locks to show off!"
"Yes," Dee answered, "Nathan's never seen me with my hair up."
"So you plan to razzle-dazzle him with a new dress and hairdo. Very nice!" Fiona agreed. They had fun chatting and laughing the whole time. When they were all done, they looked outside to make sure neither man was in sight and left.
Dee quickly walked over to the dress shop. Clare and Rosemary were both there. "Oh my, oh my!" Rosemary was very astonished. "Fiona outdid herself."
"Thank you, I really love it too!" Dee was happy.
"Now go in the room over there and try the dress on. Let's see how it looks like now after the alterations." Rosemary instructed. When Dee walked out, the ladies were thrilled. "Very nice! Now, here's the gloves and I brought an evening bag to match and sapphire blue drop earrings with a tear drop necklace that completes the set.
You'll look stunning!" Clare grinned.
When Dee got back to Faith's house without being seen, she slipped in the door. Faith flattered her with lots of compliments about her hair, and then saw the dress and accessories.
"Oh Dee, Nathan will be thrilled to have you on his arm!" Faith declared. I made you a sandwich to eat in case you are hungry."
"I have butterflies, I don't know if I should, but I don't want my stomach growling either." Dee sat down and as slowly as she could manage, ate her sandwich.
Upstairs, Faith helped Dee into her blue satin dress. It really looked stunning on her. As she stepped into her dress heels, pulled the long gloves up her arms, donned the sparkling tear drop necklace and earrings. As she stood there all dressed up, Faith thought she would need a shawl to drape over her shoulders.
"Wait right there," she said as she ran to get hers. "Here, now the ensemble is complete!"
"Oh I feel like a princess!" Dee declared excitedly!
"Well, you look like one, and by the way, your Prince Charming is here." Faith called to Dee.
"Come in Nathan, she'll be down any minute."
Dee sprayed a hint of perfume on for the final touch and walked down the stairs.
Nathan couldn't believe his eyes! He whistled as she walked over to him.
"Girl, you are amazingly elegant!" he gushed.
"Why thank you Constable! You look stunning yourself!" she admired.
Nathan held out his arm, and told her, "Your carriage awaits, my love!" and with that Dee giggled.
"Have fun!" Faith called as she watched them walk outside to the automobile that Bill and Molly were waiting in. Dee turned around and winked at Faith.
