So the chaos is about to begin ...
I couldn't be more grateful for wearing a mask right now. Otherwise, everyone would see how instead of blanching, hyperventilating, and panicking, I was expressionless. But I have to stifle the pang of guilt I feel when I glance at Todoroki-kun's pale face from the corner of my eye. His mouth is twisted in a thin line and his jaw is clenched, but his eyes betray his growing fear.
The rest of the students are not so subtle about their terror, which I ignore. But what Todoroki-kun says, I cannot ignore. "Is this the only part of campus they've infiltrated, or are they attacking all the others, too? Then that just means they must have one amongst their number who has a quirk that can do that. An isolated space away from the school building and at a time when there's a class scheduled ... It may seem out of the question, but they must have some solid objective. This isn't an ambush without some carefully planned scheme behind it." The only emotion I reveal at that is an audible gulp. He's perceptive ...
Meanwhile, Aizawa-sensei takes charge. He orders No. 13 to evacuate the students through the entrance and Kaminari-san to try to call the school since one of the criminals has blocked the sensors. And then he jumps into the midst of the criminals without looking back. The criminals proceed to attack him, but he attacks them first. Those with emitter or transformation quirks try to activate their quirks but against Sensei's elimination quirk, it's useless. Those with mutant quirks get tangled in his binding scarf.
I can tell Shigaraki is analyzing Sensei, and just as I am about to listen in on what he's saying, Todoroki-kun pulls me by the arm and drags me away from the view. I flinch, but he doesn't notice. "Come one! We have to leave!" he shouts.
It's a shame that won't happen. Because Kurogiri's warp gate opens up in front of the class and No. 13. It's the biggest gate I've seen him make yet, stretching from the dome of the campus to the floor we're standing on.
"I'm afraid I can't allow that," he says in his suave tone. "Greetings. We are the villain alliance. I apologize for the presumption, but we took it upon ourselves to enter U.A. academy, the base of heroes." I'm tempted to tell him that as much as I adore his smooth voice, now is not the time for a monologue. "In order to engage with Mr. All Might, the 'Symbol of Peace,' we were wondering if we might be allowed the opportunity to extinguish him, you see." The entire class quiets for a moment in horror. If my circumstances were different, I might have laughed at their wide eyes and open mouths. Kurogiri continues. "Was Mr. All Might not meant to be in attendance at this juncture? Perchance, has something been altered? Ah, well. Setting that aside-"
He doesn't get the chance to finish.
No. 13 opens a mechanism on his suit and creates a black hole to suck Kurogiri in. At the same time, Bakugou-san and Kirishima-san charge toward Kurogiri and blast and punch him. "Bet you didn't think we'd be able to do you in before you got the chance!" one of the two shouts. But it's useless. Kurogiri is unfazed, undamaged.
In fact, his response is, "That was quite perilous. To be expected. Though you may be mere students, you are also the hero world's 'golden goose.'" No. 13 begs the two to run, but Kurogiri has just begun. "You will be scattered. And tortured. And slain. EVERYONE!" Said everyone, including me, is sucked into Kurogiri's warp gate, separated from one another.
I am deposited at the circumference of the building, on the opposite of Kurogiri and the entrance. I must be hundreds of meters away. I watch the distant figures of the students falling in different disaster simulation sites. Some fall into the water, others the rocky ground, and a few into a collapsed skyscraper.
So this is what Kurogiri meant when he said I would "be far away from the site of battle."
I am literally far away from the site of battle.
Just as I am figuratively far away from victory in my inner battle of vengeance.
I don't restrain myself and laugh hysterically at the wordplay.
