Chapter 35

What'll I Do Without You?

It's no secret that Emma hasn't really been hanging out with Jay since the night at Zanzibar. It's not all because she's wrapped up with Sean or that she's mad at him it's because she doesn't really know what to say since he tried to make a move on her. Even though he was drunk and upset over Alex it still is an awkward thing. She's going to miss him when he moves to California but she mostly fears Sean finding out about it. So today she's going to tell Manny about it, because she's the lesser of two evils.

"So what's been going on in the world of my bestie?" Manny inquired at lunch as they normally do when she flies in.

"Jay kissed me." Emma blurted out, "and I know you guys just got back together."

"He did?" She asked with much confusion, "when?"

"At Zanz."

Manny was humored by it, "He was fucking wasted that night, I'm going to text him."

"No no no!" Emma exclaimed as she grabbed Manny's phone from her, when she calmed down when Manny made a face at her she added, "Sean will go ballistic on him."

"I thought Sean turned over a new leaf."

"If I know Sean, like I know Sean I don't think that part changed very much."

"Well if you ask me, Sean is crazy about you, girl. But heed my warning, if Sean loves you like he says he does and I know he does love you. He'll understand. Plus it wasn't like you liked it or anything."

"I just kind of silently told him that we'd talk about it and I've avoided him ever since, and I've been kind of busy spending time with Sean and it just never came up."

"You guys have to talk it over, before the party. You two are better friends than that."

"But now it's awkward and how are we going to even tell Sean?"

"Tell Sean what?" Sean surprised them both when he called out he happened to see them both seated outside The Dot.

"Uh . . . " Emma was at a loss for words.

". . . About possibly hiring a DJ!" Manny told Sean.

"How much we going to spend on this party?" He asked Emma skeptically but also believably Sean.

"It was just a suggestion." Emma replied, mouthing to Manny unbeknownst to Sean, 'THANK YOU'.

Manny stands up out of her chair and pulls Sean into a friendly hug, "How are you, Sean?"

"I'm doing pretty good."

"Well that's great. It's nice to see you not-so-broody."

"I don't brood." Sean said with a furrowed brow.

Emma and Manny exchange looks and then look back to Sean, "We weren't expecting you to come by."

"I was in the area on the way to the garage and I saw you girls and figured, hey why don't I come visit my beautiful girlfriend and her awesome best friend."

"Aww Sean, you're so sweet, now get out of here." Manny replied, "We'll hang later but it's very rare I get one on one time with just Emma."

"Alright, see you guys." Sean kissed Emma's cheek before he left and then it was just them two.

"Seriously though, no DJ." Emma told Manny, "We're on a limited budget."

"This reminds me of the time I was afraid to tell Sean about the ravine."

"I know, right? And you see how bad that went. What are you going to do?" Manny asked seriously.

"I guess I'm going to have to tell him and hope he still wants to be with me even though it was before we even officially got together."
