Part One: Into the Depths
Chapter 1
Stupid Cavewings.
Stupid tribe trying to make me into a killing machine.
Stupid Webwings who started the war.
Maybe they deserve to get wiped out.
A flash of gray scales pulled Flint out of her mind and she turned her head to meet Prancer's eyes.
Well not all Webwings, Prancer is good and I guess Hunter is as well since he is Prancer's friend. Also Ocho and that Webwing named Tarantula. Well I get my point, but most Webwings and Cavewings are idiots.
"What is it Prancer?" Flint asked.
"Oh nothing, it just seemed like you were having a battle with your head," Prancer said. "I just wanted to make sure you were alright."
"I'm fine, why wouldn't I be? We are on our way to end the war, isn't that something exciting to think about?"
"Well yeah, I'm mostly sure I know where we can start looking for the lost artifact."
"I have a question buddy," Hunter said.
Use his name Webwing! Flint wanted to scream but kept her cool and stayed quiet.
"What is it Hunter?" Prancer asked.
"I'm just wondering how you figured out where we could start looking for the lost artifact, that's all."
"Oh," Prancer said. "Well… I guess I just remembered something in a scroll I read about the artifact. I think it had clues of some sort that could help us out in finding it."
"You sound nervous about that," Flint noted. "Did it say anything else that you're not telling us."
"Stop picking on him!" Tulsi piped up from beside Prancer. She then turned to Prancer to comfort him. "It's okay, I know you may be scared, I am too, just tell us, did it say anything else?"
"No, it didn't," Prancer said.
"Okay," Tulsi said and continued to walk beside Prancer.
How dare she think that I am picking on him! I would never do such a thing. And why does she think she can comfort him, that's what I'm supposed to do! Shy little Drillwing, stop hiding behind other's shadows!
"Here you go talk to Hunter, I'll walk with Prancer," Flint said, moving right beside Tulsi.
"Oh um, I'm not so sure about that…"
Flint whispered into Tulsi's ear, "Now."
With that, Tulsi wandered back to Hunter and walked a little behind him. Flint now could finally talk to Prancer in peace.
"So Prancer, I've been wondering, what made you become friends with a dragon like Hunter?"
Prancer turned to look at her. "Well he wanted to help me out with training and he believed in me that I could defeat the Cavewings. Of course now I see that not all Cavewings are bad but if one tries to attack us, I will rip its head off!"
"What if a Webwing tries to attack us?" Flint asked.
"I… I… I guess I would do the same thing. I don't know, it's still hard for me to think about. I mean a lot has happened to me over the past few days."
"Yeah, I know," Flint said. "Don't worry, I'll help you through it."
Prancer took a long time before answering her and she wondered what he was thinking. He then shook his head and said, "Thanks."
At least it seems like he still believes in me. I don't know what it is but it seems like Hunter and Tulsi feel like I'll betray them at any moment. Which is stupid because if they knew her past then they wouldn't think that she would betray them. Flint thought back to when she was growing up in her tribe.
Flint never seemed to get along with any of the Cavewings. They always wanted to talk about what to stab next, or what training they should go to today, but all Flint wanted to do was to see if any dragons needed her help. She wanted to help dragons out and make sure that they liked her. Except that isn't what happened. Instead what happened is that she was constantly bullied by other Cavewings her age. They would leave her out of all their activities and act like she didn't exist. She went a whole year where none of the dragons even acknowledged that she was around them and instead acted like she wasn't there. It drove Flint mad and her parents weren't helping.
Her family line was one of the most prestigious warrior families in the tribe. Her parents and great-grandparents were all in the Cavewing army. She had a relative who was famous for killing forty Webwings by himself. There was another ancestor who was known for assassinating one of the Webwing Queens a century ago. The Cavewing Queen always looked towards this family when she needed some killing to be done. Her parents had hoped that she could grow to become one of the best fighters in their family so they weren't happy when they heard how she acted around the other Cavewings. To try to fix this, they wanted to ship her off to a training camp that helped train Cavewings into soldiers for the army. They didn't want her to ruin their perfect reputation.
But she didn't want this, so she snuck out of the cavern one night and ran away from her parents and tribe because of what they wanted to make her into. She vowed that she would never go back to them. Yes, she did try bringing Prancer there initially but that was because she still couldn't trust the Webwing. She had been living on her own for four years and the first dragon she talked to in those four years was a Webwing. That obviously made Flint suspicious but she was right in trusting Prancer and she would do anything to end this war to make his life easier.
"I wonder Flint," Prancer said. "When you said I don't know everything about you, what is it that I don't know?"
"Oh that," Flint said. "What I meant is that you don't know about the challenges I've been through."
"Oh," Prancer said. "Mind sharing them with me?"
"Not now," Flint said. "We have an artifact to find."
Prancer walked over to Tulsi to talk to her and Hunter appeared in front of Flint.
"You know that wasn't nice to get Tulsi away from Prancer, you know how shy she is."
"So what?" Flint asked. "She has to open up more and like your one to talk, grateful Webwing."
"What makes me grateful?" Hunter asked.
"Well for starters, you are a son of the Webwing Queen, which means you get all the best items and get to be a spoiled dragonet."
"I WAS NOT A SPOILED DRAGONET!" Hunter protested.
"Yeah because those rings on your horns say otherwise."
"Listen, they are a part of the royal family, every dragon in the bloodline has to wear them."
"Well they look stupid, so take them off."
"Well, I don't want to," Hunter said.
"See, that proves my point," Flint said. "Spoiled dragonet."
"What's up with you recently?" Hunter asked. "You literally talk to everyone, except Prancer, in this snappy attitude."
"You don't need to understand, you never will," Flint said and walked away from Hunter before he could respond.
ARGH IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING! Why does everyone need to be so informative about how everyone lives? I never ask them about how their life is, so why do they think it is okay to ask about mine? This is the reason why I had preferred to be alone. I got the job done faster when I didn't have to carry around extra weight.
She seriously wanted to scream out her problems but she has learned that it won't help her and may only make the situation worse so she has learned to calm herself down and bottle up the emotions to make sure they stayed inside of her.
You know what? She thought to herself. It doesn't matter if they trust me or not, all I need to do is find the lost artifact for them and then they will believe that I am ON THEIR SIDE! That is all I need to do and I will do it… with or without their help.
