Chapter Eight

"You persuaded her, didn't you?" I said more than asked the Ancient in my head as I acknowledged her mental presence.

"Yes. She would not have allowed you to do anything alone otherwise." The Ancient replied, sounding slightly surprised at having been caught.

"Is there any chance that she's going to suddenly 'wake up' from her agreeing state?" I asked, feeling a little uncomfortable knowing that 'Yoda' had persuaded Doctor Weir to basically forgo all of her objections and allow me to do what I wanted but I also felt a little relieved that I would have the freedom I needed to get things done as fast as I possibly could.

"No. I have dimmed her knowledge of your presence … as well as the general memory of you to all others who are inside of Atlantis so none of them will worry about you or come to find you for a few days at least. Just enough time for you to complete the weapons and possibly start working on something else. Now shouldn't you be preparing this place for your inhabiting it before heading down to the weapons lab?" The Ancient asked, sounding slightly exasperated, reminding me of my many teachers who had to constantly keep me on track as my mind had the habit of wandering off task at times.

"Right. Is there any chance that you have a washer and dryer for clothes that I can use?" I asked her and was happy to realize that all the living apartments had them, they were simply hidden in the walls. Pushing the correct corners the 'wall' rolled up and I was able to access them. Pulling off the old bedding and pillow cases I threw them all into the washer and started to run it before remembering all of the seeds I had brought along.

"Hey do you guys happen to have a greenhouse here?" I asked her as I began to put away my clothes into the medium sized dresser that was along the wall.

"Yes, but it is an entire building, not just a small part of one. I can walk you through how to change the temperature and consistency of watering and air flow but you will most likely need to do some things by hand." She told me.

"That would be awesome, thank you. I'll plant the seeds and get everything set up for them first and then I promise I'll start work on the weapons and figuring out a way to shield the entire city from the Replicators and the Wraith." I said only realizing what I was saying when I heard myself say it causing me to frown in anger.

"Look lady, I don't care who you are or how eager you are to get things done, you don't get to control me or my thoughts. This is my head and my body and just because I'm willing to help you does NOT mean that you get to use me like your puppet!" I said angrily.

"..I am sorry. I did not mean to upset you." She said, sounding surprised and slightly shocked that I had figured out what she was doing.

"Yeah sure you are! You just didn't think you were going to get caught. Now if we are going to work together you had better not try to do this again or I will find a way to keep you out of my head!" I told her sternly meaning every word.

"I understand. I will not do it again." She replied but something was warning me that I should start trying to figure out how to make sure that she couldn't take over my mind and body.

*That is what she did before . . . in fact I don't actually know what all she did when she did take over my body and mind. That's a scary thought.* I thought feeling a flash of fear go through me as I realized the truth. She could do that again if I didn't find a way to block her out but how could I find a way to block her out when I knew even now she was faintly monitoring what I was thinking?

"I freaking hate telepathy!" I snarled as I slammed my fist into the wall in anger. Calming myself with the meditative breathing techniques that I had learned from my mom. Thinking about my mom caused me to calm down a lot more and as I went through some of the many memories I had of her I realized that there was a way that I could keep 'Yoda' out of my head. Slowly putting my new knowledge to use I went back to packing.

Putting all of the seeds into one of my now empty backpacks I packed an extra pair of clothes just in case I lost track of time and added an empty notebook, sketchbook and a couple of pens, pencils and erasers as well as the backpack that Daniel Jackson had given me that I hadn't even unzipped yet, before heading towards the nearest transporter.

Getting to the greenhouse building was easy thanks to the transporter taking me ground level so I could walk over to it, it was only three buildings over from the main control building where we were all going to be living for now. After entering the beautiful and surprisingly still intact glass building I made sure everything was set up correctly before starting to plant all of the seeds. Many times I loudly thanked whoever had created the packets because every packet had the information of the plants on the back so I knew what they needed. With everything planted the sun had long since disappeared from the night sky and a slightly chilly breeze caused me to shiver as I made my way back to the main control building where the weapons lab was.
