Ranger School: Chapter 15
Kellyn was thrilled to tell his mother about the friend he had made, though of course, his heart and mind was telling him he felt stronger feelings than simply friends. Now the young man wondered how exactly he would tell Wendy of his feelings. Or if it would be better to simply wait until she possibly asked.
'We're quite close despite not knowing each other for long. I also wouldn't want to date her and find out we're not right for one another, that'd be horrible for both of us. Perhaps it'll be best if we spend a bit more time together.' Kellyn thought as he quickly fell asleep.
- Meanwhile, in Wendy's room –
Wendy on the other hand was lying down in bed, as the young Student Ranger was tired from today. However, she was also very happy as she was able to spend time with Kellyn.
'Today felt like such a long day, but I'm glad that I could hang out with Kellyn. He might be softspoken and while some people may not like that, I find that to be a good thing. Still, it would be nice to know him a little better, but just like with how I previously felt, I wouldn't want to bother him too much. I'll keep being there for him, if Kellyn gains feelings for me and is too shy to confess…then I'll proclaim my love for him.' Wendy thought as she soon fell asleep.
- One month later –
Eventually, a month passed without any incidents occurring as of a result of Kincaid urging Keith and Linda to step back a bit. With the case of the group of five, they instead did their best to avoid drawing any attention. On a more positive note, Kellyn and Wendy spent more time together throughout the days, and they began to naturally grow closer to one another.
One night, Wendy and Kellyn were walking back to their dorms from the bench overlooking the lake. The female Student Ranger was feeling a tad cold as the nights were becoming a bit chilly. Kellyn was thankfully not a dense man, and he picked up on Wendy being cold. Truthfully, Kellyn was also a bit cold, and he wondered what the best way would be to ask Wendy if the two of them could move closer together for warmth.
'Wendy and I have gotten even closer to one another compared to when I first came here. The two of us have gotten to bond a lot. Still, I wouldn't ever want to encroach on her personal space…that wouldn't be right.' Kellyn thought as Wendy gave him a quick glance.
'Heh, he's cute even as he's deep in thought. Looks like he's a bit cold as well…hrm, it wouldn't hurt for me to ask him if he'd like to be a bit closer to me.' Wendy thought.
"Say Kellyn, are you cold?" Wendy asked.
"I am…I'm surprised by how cold it's gotten recently. The jackets the Ranger School provides definitely aren't thick in the slightest." Kellyn said as Wendy gave a small grin.
Despite Wendy's intentions being genuine and rather flirtatious, the young woman couldn't help how flustered she was beginning to feel, as her face heated up.
'Come on Wendy, you can do it! Just ask Kellyn if he'd like to warm up! Just don't make it sound weird…' Wendy thought.
"I agree, even with this scarf I'm wearing, I'm still a bit cold. If you're feeling cold then you can always warm up right next to me if you're interested. You know I don't bite!" Wendy said.
While Kellyn's face also started turning a bit red, he did move himself right next to Wendy. The duo were now shoulder to shoulder as Wendy began to remove her red scarf.
To Kellyn's astonishment, Wendy did in fact wrap her scarf closely around Kellyn's neck, with both of their faces getting ever more red. If anyone else saw them, they would definitely think the two were a shy couple learning to be comfortable around one another.
For a brief moment, Kellyn was feeling so much warmth from Wendy's scarf that he was at a loss of words, something which Wendy picked up on.
'While he may not be saying something at the moment, I can tell that he's happy and appreciative. That blush on his face is…adorable.' Wendy thought.
"W-Wendy…thank you for letting me feel so warm. It really means a lot to me that you'd do that." Kellyn said as Wendy smiled.
"Of course! I'm glad that you're at least a little warmer!" Wendy said.
The two continued to walk for some time, and the obvious attraction the two had for one another was very apparent to both of them. Considering how close the two had become, it only made sense some romantic feelings would occur between them, now the pressing matter was who would confess.
'My stomach is in knots just thinking about confessing to Wendy. Ever since the first day I attended this school, she's been by my side. I'd love for that to continue…but if I confess and things somehow didn't work out…I'd be crushed. At the same time, I'm very attracted to Wendy…she's intelligent, beautiful, and really knows how to treat people, even someone who's as shy as myself. I've made friends with her, Luana, Marcus and Mr. Caplan, because she was the first one to give me a chance. But…I just don't know what to do…' Kellyn thought.
At the same time, Wendy was also contemplating if she should proclaim her love for Kellyn.
"Let's see now Wendy…you and Kellyn get along great, he's smart, amazingly handsome and is a great listener. Kellyn's become friends with myself, Luana, Marcus and Mr. Caplan in a short time. Besides that, I'm certain a few other students and faculty as well, just because he's softspoken doesn't mean Kellyn should be treated any differently. Kellyn's such a joy to be around…but if I were to confess to him and in the event we didn't work out…then I would be devastated.' Wendy thought as the two neared the dorm building.
"Man, usually I'm happy to see the dorm building considering how cold it's been lately…but today I don't mind how the weather was at all." Kellyn said.
'Oh? Was Kellyn okay with the weather…because of…me? There's no harm in asking him!' Wendy thought.
"Really? How come?" Wendy asked as Kellyn blushed and scratched the back of his head.
"W-well…I got to spend a little more time with you…a-and get warm when it became colder." Kellyn said.
'Alright Wendy, try to swoop in and sound natural!' Wendy thought.
"Hahah, I'm glad to hear that! I didn't want you to think I was being weird with putting my scarf around you!" Wendy said.
"Oh that isn't weird at all, honestly it's nice someone cares about me that much. Only my mom would do that for me when I was a little kid." Kellyn said.
"I'm happy you have such a good relationship with your mother! That's always a good thing to see!" Wendy said.
'Aw…maybe I've missed my chance today!' Wendy thought.
"It is, in fact, I talk to her about you quite a bit!" Kellyn said as his face became flustered, while Wendy turned to face him.
"You do? If you don't mind me asking…what do you tell her?" Wendy asked as her heart began to race, while Kellyn tried to avert the situation.
"I…uh…I just tell her…general things, you know?" Kellyn asked as Wendy giggled.
'I'll tease him a little bit…I'm very curious what he told his mother about me. I won't force it out of him, I'll be a bit playful.' Wendy thought as they entered the dorm building.
"Hmm, really? Just basic information hm?" Wendy asked as Kellyn stammered a bit.
"Ah…well…it's...possible." Kellyn said.
"You'll have to try a bit better than that!" Wendy said.
Kellyn's heart was now racing and even though he could choose to lie to Wendy, he didn't want to.
'No way would I think of lying to Wendy, a white lie would be completely unfair to her. I can tell she's teasing me…so I wonder how she'll react to what I say next.' Kellyn thought.
"Okay…I'll tell you, but I want to apologize if I make you feel uncomfortable. So around a month ago was when I first told my mom about you. I wasn't worried, since she's overprotective of me, but not overbearing. I told her about the friends I made and I spoke about you first. Of course that just piqued her interest and I explained that you're just amazing…among…other things. Er…and…yeah, that's how it went." Kellyn said as his face became increasingly red during the course of the conversation.
"Wow…I'm ecstatic to see Kellyn's as into me as I am into him! I'll say my part since he's definitely looking extra flustered.' Wendy thought.
"Kellyn, if I didn't know any better…I would say that you were explaining to your mother that perhaps…you might have a bit of a crush on me. Right?" Wendy asked as Kellyn closed his eyes and hastily nodded.
"Y-yes…you'd be right." Kellyn said as his eyes stayed shut.
'So much for me being so confident, Wendy certainly appears to have a crush on me...but I've been wrong before and I was just so embarrassed.' Kellyn thought.
Wendy on the other hand had an expression of relief, as she now fully knew that Kellyn was in fact, attracted to her as well. Considering Wendy didn't want to make Kellyn feel uncomfortable or blush even more, she figured that confessing would be the best.
"What a relief! I'm so happy you feel the same way…because I have a crush on you too, Kellyn!" Wendy said as Kellyn opened his eyes in surprise, only to be met with a hug from Wendy.
"Y-you do?" Kellyn asked.
"Of course I do!" Wendy said as Kellyn returned the hug.
"Well…since we both feel the same way…maybe we can…go on a date?" Kellyn asked.
"I'd love that! How about next week?" Wendy asked.
"That…that would be great!" Kellyn said as the two quickly made it to their dorm rooms, with Wendy and Kellyn affectionally hugging each other.
