Ranger School: Chapter 16

The duo then said farewell to one another, with both of them having excited expressions on their faces as they headed inside their dorm rooms.

Kellyn and Wendy entered their respective bedrooms, and Kellyn went into the bathroom and brushed his teeth. After doing so, the young man changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed, thrilled to tell his mother about his day.

'Let's see if my mother's free…' Kellyn thought as he called his mother on his Styler.

A couple of rings later and Kellyn's mother answered, happy as ever to speak to her son.

"Good evening son, how was your day today?" Kellyn's mother asked.

"I'm doing good mom, do you have some time to talk?" Kellyn asked.

"Of course I do, I just finished my shift! You sound extra upbeat tonight!" Kellyn's mother said.

"I am! Do you remember that woman I was telling you about? Wendy?" Kellyn asked.

"I certainly do, considering the attraction you have to her. Did something happen?" Kellyn's mother asked as Kellyn blushed slightly.

"Well…we're actually going on a date next week!" Kellyn said excitedly while his mother gasped.

"Really now? Congratulations, I'm so happy for you! I know you'll be your usual polite self, but make sure you take her out to somewhere nice, okay?" Kellyn's mother suggested as Kellyn gave a small smile.

"You know I will, but one thing I'm nervous about is what should I wear? I don't exactly have any…fashionable clothing." Kellyn said as his mother paused for a moment.

"Hmm, well since you two are going on a date, how about you see if Wendy also needs to update her wardrobe? Then if she does, you can make an excuse and both go shopping together!" Kellyn's mother said.

"I didn't think of that…that's a good idea! Maybe I can mention it to Wendy tomorrow and see what she says!" Kellyn said.

"Exactly, it's never good to do things last minute." Kellyn's mother said.

The mother and son then spoke for some time more, until Kellyn got a bit sleepy. After saying goodnight to his mom and ending the call, Kellyn got comfortable and soon fell asleep.

- In Wendy's dorm room -

Wendy on the other hand was laying down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. The young woman found herself unable to sleep since she changed off from her uniform ten minutes ago.

'I can't believe it…Kellyn and I are actually going on a date…I'm so happy that I can't even sleep. But if I don't get some rest then I know I'll be exhausted tomorrow. It's a shame I can't really express my joy to anyone but Kellyn, Luana and Marcus…but I have to be strong. It's what my parents would've wanted me to do. Now that I give it some thought…considering this is a date I'm going on, my parents definitely would've wanted me to dress presentably. Maybe not super flashy, but modest. I really need a new wardrobe though.' Wendy thought as she mulled over the situation for a little bit.

After a short amount of time, Wendy came to a realization that would benefit both her and Kellyn.

'I got it! I'll ask Kellyn if he'd like to go shopping with me! It'd be great to hang out with him aside from just on campus…plus I'll be able to show him a few different outfits if he's interested!' Wendy thought as she fell asleep.

In the morning, Kellyn and Wendy woke up around the same time, though Kellyn finished first. Wendy finished tying up her shoelaces and then exited her dorm room. Seeing Kellyn was outside by his dorm organizing things in his backpack, Wendy lightly tapped him on the shoulder as the man finished what he was doing.

"Good morning Wendy, I hope you slept well last night!" Kellyn said as he gave her a small smile, which made Wendy's heart race.

"I-I certainly did, I h-hope the same for you!" Wendy stammered as she smiled and shyly scratched the back of her head.

"I did, thank you!" Kellyn said.

'Geez, what's the matter with me, I would usually not be so flustered when Kellyn smiles at me like that. It's gotta be because of yesterday with how we admitted having a crush on one another! Keep it together Wendy…even though your heart's going wild!' Wendy thought.

'Man, I really adore Wendy's reactions, they're always so genuine. Perhaps today we'll talk about the exact day we'll have the date. Then I can see how to mention I'll need some time to get new clothing…or maybe even see if Wendy would be interested in tagging along, which I'm certain she would be.' Kellyn thought as Wendy cleared her throat.

"Kellyn, I figured I would mention this before we end up getting busy with the usual routine, I was wondering what specific day you'd like to go on our date." Wendy said as Kellyn thought for a moment.

"I was thinking of Friday, since if we went on Saturday, then we might be too exhausted for class the next day. Would that work for you?" Kellyn asked as Wendy nodded.

"Of course, that'd be perfect! Where were you thinking of going?" Wendy asked.

"I was thinking of going to Pueltown since they always seem to be so bustling with life! Then maybe we can go to a café afterwards. What do you think of that?" Kellyn asked as Wendy thought for a moment.

"That would be great! I heard they usually have a fair going on most weekends during the day, then they leave when it starts getting dark. Maybe we could go, if you'd like?" Wendy asked.

"Definitely, that would be nice! I think going early in the morning would be nice so that…maybe we can spend some time together." Kellyn said as he became flustered.

"I'd like that." Wendy said as she smiled while the two walked to their first class.

As the two were halfway to their first class, Kellyn thought it'd be a good idea to mention his wardrobe, or lack of one.

"That also reminds me…and this is a bit embarrassing…but I don't really have any good clothes for our date." Kellyn said as Wendy breathed a small sigh of relief.

"I'm actually a bit relieved you said that…neither do I! Maybe we can go shopping after we're finished with our extracurricular activities today?" Wendy asked.

"Sounds good to me!" Kellyn said.

The duo soon reached their first class, where there were only a few students there, including Keith. Of course, Luana was also there, and she waved to the duo as they entered.

Once Luana's two friends sat down, she could immediately tell something was up, and was going to ask a question, but Mrs. April entered the classroom. As the class began to start and Mrs. April proceeded with today's lessons being on electrical safety, Luana couldn't help but be anxious the entire time, wondering when class would be over so she can ask her two friends what took place yesterday.

Eventually, class was finished, much to Luana's relief. As the trio left the classroom, Luana gently nudged Wendy, who looked like she was on cloud nine.

"Well Wendy, you're looking extra happy today, that's good! If you don't mind me asking, did something happen between you and Kellyn?" Luana asked as Kellyn blushed.

"Yes, something amazing happened! Kellyn and I admitted we both have crushes on each other…and we're going on a date this Friday!" Wendy said as Luana gave Kellyn a gentle slap on the back, making the latter sheepishly grin.

"Really?! Nice work Kellyn! I'm happy for you guys, let me know if you need any pointers!" Luana said, whispering the last part to Kellyn.

"Thank you Luana, I'll let you know if I need anything!" Kellyn said.

The trio made their way to their next class and soon headed inside to see most of the students were there. After sitting down, the lessons for the class began, and before the trio knew it, their class on Field Moves was finished as well. Luana left the duo after once more expressing joy for the two of them, and gave them both a hug as she went to the library to hang out with Marcus.

The duo chatted along the way to their classrooms, and soon made it there, saying farewell to one another as they headed inside their respective extracurricular activity rooms.

Kellyn breathed a sigh of relief, he was exhilarated that he would be going shopping with Wendy after this class. Keith on the other hand, who was also inside the classroom along with the other students, was not pleased at all.

'Something is different about him. Kellyn and Wendy seem more closer than before…I'll see if Linda can watch them later today. Considering how it's getting cold, it also means it'll be dark once this class is over with…so it'll be perfect.' Keith thought as Kellyn approached the red-haired student.

"Hi there Keith, nice to see you! Ready to start the usual activities?" Kellyn asked as Keith nodded.

"Sure, ready when you are." Keith said.

The two began their usual routine of rock climbing and would then grapple down once they reached the top.

Once they were through with the routine a few times well, the two decided to take a break. Mr. Caplan, seeing the two students, especially Kellyn, working hard, gave them a thumbs up as Kellyn repeated the gesture. Eventually, Kellyn and Keith continued to rock climb until the class was finished. Once students began to file out, Kellyn waved goodbye to Mr. Caplan as the latter did the same.

Kellyn left the classroom and began to walk down the hallway, Keith also left the classroom and headed the other direction where no one else was around and called Linda. After the first ring, Linda answered, much to Keith's relief.

"Hi Keith, what's up?" Linda asked.

"I need you to do something for me…can you follow Kellyn and see where he's heading to?" Keith asked.

"Sure, but why?" Linda asked.

"I suspect something's going on between him and Wendy." Keith said.

"Really? Interesting…okay, you got it love, I'll follow him right now." Linda said.

"Perfect, thank you." Keith said as he ended the call.
