Chapter Twenty
As I was waiting for John, Ronan and Rodney to find Teyla, Doctor Weir and Doctor Beckett and bring them down to the bio lab as I had asked, I pulled out a pencil and began to write down a list of rules for myself to follow.
"Randy?" John's voice called out from behind me so I turned around but continued writing down my last thought before looking up at them seriously.
"Thanks for coming, Teyla, Doctor Weir, Doc Beckett. I don't know if they told you but I am telepathic now. Don't worry though, thanks to my her memories I managed to make a mental shield so I'm keeping my head out of everyone else's however I have no idea what other abilities may pop up so I'm putting together a short list of rules for myself that I'm hoping y'all can help me with." I said diving straight in because I didn't want to get distracted by the various things I needed to do around Atlantis.
"Alright what's the first rule?" Doctor Weir asked, crossing her arms as she put her full attention on me.
"First rule is I shouldn't be alone. Not because I mind it but because the multiple sets of thoughts going through my brain within a single second can pull me in many different directions and if I'm not focused one one thought at a time something really bad could happen. So I was hoping it could be one of you six with me at all times when I'm working but I understand that's not going to be possible so whoever will be with me will get a piece of paper with one project on it and at random times they will ask me about it therefore keeping me focused on the one task." I said crossing the first rule out on the paper as I read it aloud.
"Okay that makes sense. Why don't we continue this conversation in my office?" Doctor Weir said starting to turn around and I held up a hand to stop her.
"Because of the second thing, Doctor Beckett as a medical doctor I want you to work here with me as I work on separating the Wraith DNA and try to figure out how to cause a certain reaction in it. Because while I have access to all of the information here in Atlantis databases and I have the memories of a 3,877 year old Ancient in my head I don't necessarily have the physical knowledge to understand what I know means. On Earth I never went to college. All the languages and other things I learned were either from private tutors or simply from being self teaching while being immersed in the culture of those particular people. You have the knowledge to understand the reason behind everything that I'm doing and I want you to make sure that I'm doing everything properly." I said turning my attention to Doctor Beckett as I crossed off the second rule I had made for myself.
"That I can do lass." Doctor Beckett replied sounding surprised but pleased that I had asked him.
"Great thanks Doc. I was actually hoping that you might be able to help me complete the few uncompleted formulas that I haven't been able to fully grasp the concept behind because while I know how to do it I don't understand what any of it means its like knowing the answers to a test but having never read the questions. Oh! And another thing when the Wraith attack I don't believe we should use the puddle jumpers for several reasons which I'll get to later but for now I propose that we simply use a little mechanical engineering on the transport carts because they can actually fly in the air or move in the water all on their own as long as you put in preprogrammed instructions and they can change their outward color which I could tweak to make them camouflaged so the Wraith wouldn't be able to see them and since they wouldn't have any life on them the Wraith scanners wouldn't pick them up. Oh! And speaking of defense against the Wraith I was hoping to put up mental shields in the heads of everyone here on Atlantis although I'm by no means an expert in telepathic communications I have learned that the Wraith are a telepathic race and they can use it to make others see things that aren't really there. Now I want to
(Randy now speaks while looking at the floor as she is talking directly to Atlantis itself just out loud and in English)
-*- wait a minute! The Wraith are actually Ancients who were experimented on and experimented on themselves trying to find a way to have immortality and then several generations later the Wraith turned around and experimented on normal people to try and make them easier to feed on? What kind of sick twisted Cretans were and are Ancients?! I mean how scared of death do you have to be to fuse your DNA with that of the Iratus bug. I mean that is a disgusting looking creature in it's own right and -*-
(A new thought path causes Randy to now look up at the six others and she returns to talking to them)
Oh and this isn't one of my rules but Doctor Weir there used to be a long line of defensive satellites that the Lanteans used to destroy over half of the Wraith hive ships that attacked it 10,000 years ago although to my knowledge there seems to be only one left and it's not in working order I was thinking there is time to fix it so it will work but we have to do that right away because the ride to there is going to be several hours and there's no telling how much fixing up it will need...what?" I asked trying to sort out my thoughts as I finally took a second to breath and then I realized everyone had an open mouth horrified look on their faces and they were all staring directly at me.
After a few seconds and before anyone could answer me I realized what I had done. I had started off talking to them and switched to talking to Atlantis as certain information became available to me before remembering something and switching the conversation back to the others.
I rubbed the back of my neck feeling a little sheepish and shrugged,
"I have about a hundred different thoughts running through my brain every millisecond and each thought can switch at any moment. It's like watching and listening to a hundred different channels at the same time and yet the channels flip themselves at random times. I wish there was a way I could just push it all out and have only my thoughts and the faint static like thoughts of the other Ancient brains in my head so I could pull in only the information I'm searching for at any given time but….hey I wonder if I could do that? Excuse me for a moment while I try." I said plopping down to the ground and sitting in a meditative pose as I tried to focus inward.
Putting a TV screen behind each of my multiple trains of thoughts I was able to slowly eliminate them until there was just two jumbo TV screens in my head, one with my own current thoughts and the other with a static like screen with faint Atlantean text on it coming from the other brains of Atlantis. Pulling out of my brain I felt my smile lighting up my face in joy as I opened my eyes and jumped up in excitement.
"I DID IT!" I exclaimed happily, grabbing onto the closest person and giving them a tight hug kissing them on both sides of their face in pure joy as my head felt so much lighter without all that information constantly running through my brain. And then I promptly fell back onto my butt as I realized my legs felt like jello and I could feel the beginnings of pin's and needles in them telling me I had lost feeling in them for a little while.
"Ouch ouch ouch pins and needles pins and needles!" I muttered using my telekinesis to pull myself up from the ground so I could roll around in the air as I shook my legs trying to hurry up and get full feeling back in them.
"But on the other hand my brain feels so weightless now...I can't believe how much crap was going through my head..." I said, shaking my head in amazement as the feeling finally returned to my legs and I carefully put my feet onto the floor as I used my telekinesis to bring me the notebook and pencil that I had been using to write down the rules for myself on.
"I don't think I'll need any of these other rules...nope the first two should be the only two." I said after flicking through the twelve pages of rules.
"While I'm very happy for your mental breakthrough I still have many questions I would like you to answer, however as the Wraith will be upon us within the next week and a half most of them will have to wait." Doctor Weir said, pulling my attention towards her as I put down the notebook.
"Sure, ask away." I told her as I glanced around the room and realized that everyone appeared to be sitting down which meant that I had most likely been meditating longer then I realized.
"Okay well first what you said about the Wraith not that long ago. Are the Wraith really Ancients?" Doctor Weir asked, sounding confused, curious and more than a little skeptical.
"I'll tell the six of you guys but I think that everyone should hear about this after we win against the Wraith because this is going to make shock waves across the entire Pegasus Galaxy." I told her seriously as I pulled a large screen towards me and touched it, pulling up all the information of the Wraith in the database. It took only a minute for the language to change back into English so everyone could read the lies the Ancients had spread about the Wraith and the truth of what really happened.
"From what I know almost every planet, if not all of them, that have a sentient native race believe that the origin of the Wraith is from an Iratus bug that one day began feeding on the humans that were visiting the planet. And somehow over time the Iratus bug began to take on advantageous human characteristics, such as larger brain mass, bipedal locomotion, and opposable digits. Then one day the Iratus bug humanoids now named the Wraith, decided to go to war with the Lanteans and started to feed upon the humans of the Pegasus Galaxy in their hunger." I said pausing and Teyla spoke up,
"Yes that is what my people believe, we have been told that for generations."
I nodded, "You know who started spreading those lies? The Ancients. They wanted to cover up the fact that the Wraith were actually created by and not only created by them but actually were them. You see, in an effort to make themselves immortal in case they couldn't Ascend, the Ancients began experimenting on transforming themselves into immortal beings. The Ancients built a facility on a frozen planet where they experimented on one hundred male and one hundred female test subjects taken from around the galaxy and a few Ancients that were willing. While they started testing they also created a weapon that would wipe out their test subjects if they ever lost control of them. All but nine Ancients from the females died in the experiment while ninety-nine of the males survived." I paused here showing them some footage that the Ancient still had of those experiments before continuing on.
"Under the testing the Wraith began further developing their characteristics and powers. Eventually, the Wraith learned how to use their telepathic abilities and tricked the guards into releasing them. They then stole the weapon that could kill them and the facility's ZPM before escaping through the Stargate to Athos. The other Ancients chased them, but by the time they reached Athos, the newly created and named Wraith were gone. The Ancients continued to chase the Wraith around the Galaxy but eventually the Wraith were able to steal some primitive ships from other planets and hide the ZPM and weapon that could cause their destruction. The Ancients believe that a mollusk creature called a Cair Leonid became the basis for the hive ships which the Wraith made themselves." I stopped talking for a second as I brought more information to the screen before continuing my explanation,
"The Wraith eventually split into various bands and the original nine females became the first Wraith Queens also known to the Wraith and their worshippers as the First Mothers, while the 99 males became their commanders, soldiers and lovers." I said watching all of their faces change to horror, disbelief and anger as they realized the truth.
