Ranger School : Chapter 20
After a few minutes of running, the duo reached Altru Park, with lush grass, cherry blossoms and flowers adorning the rather open area. Thankfully, since the gazebos were there to provide shelter, Wendy and Kellyn were able to go underneath without getting completely soaked. Despite the rain beginning to get torrential, Kellyn and Wendy were happy spending time with one another.
'Man, it's really coming down hard…I'm starting to feel cold with this temperature drop…' Kellyn thought.
Wendy on the other hand, picked up on Kellyn being cold, and figured some playful teasing and flirtation would be exactly what the young man needed. Once Wendy wrapped her arm around Kellyn's waist, with the latter feeling warmth from the touch, she figured it would be time to give some romantic words.
"Say Kellyn, you feel any warmer now? I couldn't help but notice how you were shivering some time ago." Wendy whispered into Kellyn's ear as the latter began to blush.
"I-I feel a lot warmer now, thank you…" Kellyn said as he held Wendy, while she tightened her grip slightly.
Meanwhile, Linda, still loitering around, began to approach Altru Park with her Magneton; her usual negative intent being what fueled her in spite of the rain.
'Finally caught up with these two. I'm not going to engage them directly, but I will try scaring them off to mess up their date. It's a shame this Magneton can't use Thunder…' Linda thought.
Wendy leaned in closer to Kellyn, and gently gave the man a kiss on the kiss. Sparks once again flew between the two from the romantic smooch, and Wendy put her hands around Kellyn's upper back as she gave him a more passionate kiss. Kellyn was slightly surprised from the fierce passion, though the Student Ranger expected such a loving woman to give a kiss of that nature.
The duo continued to make out until they took a quick break, wrapped in each other's loving arms while Linda looked from inside a bush, completely undetected.
'So lovey-dovey…let's see how long that lasts.' Linda thought as she whispered for Magneton to use Thunderbolt.
The Electric-type Pokémon consisting of three Magnemite charged up powerful electricity, and aimed it at the ground approximately twenty feet away from the couple. Both Kellyn and Wendy jumped up from the sudden sound, turning towards the general direction.
"T-that was scary! I didn't expect such fierce thunder!" Kellyn said.
"Neither did I! We can't stay here, let's head inside the closest building!" Wendy said.
The duo quickly scanned the area, as Altru Park was mainly lush greenery. However, the duo spotted a Ranger Depot nearby, and as luck would have it, the lights were on, inviting them in. Without wasting any time, Kellyn and Wendy rushed over to the Ranger Depot as Linda watched them, briefly contemplating what to do.
'…Maybe I should've had Thunder Wave done on both of them. Now that they're inside that Ranger Depot, there's no way they'll come out until the rain stops.' Linda thought.
Kellyn and Wendy entered the Ranger Depot, which had a solid wood counter at the back, plants on the side, and chairs in front. The floor of the Ranger Depot had embedded lights in the center, and the rest of the floor had gray tiles.
While Pueltown's Ranger Depot usually had at least ten Rangers and two Receptionists at this location, today there was a single female Receptionist and a male Ranger inside. The two of them were sitting down and chatting, and greeted Kellyn and Wendy once they entered.
"Hello there citizens, seeking shelter from the rain huh? I don't blame you, it's pretty bad out there!" The Ranger said.
"Y-yeah, this weather's awful! Can we stay here until the storm passes?" Kellyn asked.
"Of course, we don't mind, this is my partner, Jessica!" The Ranger said.
"Thanks for the introduction Tom! Well, as my partner just said, my name's Jessica, nice to meet you two!" Jessica said as she got two towels for Kellyn and Wendy.
Kellyn and Wendy gratefully took the towels and dried their hair before they introduced themselves to Tom and Jessica, with the latter couple smiling.
"Nice names; it's great to see more people inspiring to be in the Ranger Union!" Tom said.
"It definitely is! Say, you mentioned that you and Jessica were partners; I assume that you're both dating, correct?" Wendy asked.
"You're correct! However, Tom and I are also Ranger Union partners as well!" Jessica said as Kellyn and Wendy looked a little confused.
"Really? Ranger partners? I thought that Pokémon Rangers were only able to have Pokémon Partners and Party Pokémon!" Kellyn said.
"Oh I see where you're coming from! Thankfully we're allowed a human partner as well! This job can get…dangerous sometimes. Quite often, Jessica goes into the field with me to gather data while I capture the Pokémon themselves. I really appreciate having her by my side!" Tom said as Jessica grinned.
"So that means once we graduate from the Ranger School, we can ask the Ranger Union to be partners together?" Wendy asked.
"Of course! In fact, it'd be even better for the both of you, since you're both planning to become Rangers! One of you could capture Pokémon while the other does Poké Assists. As an Operator, I can't exactly do Poké Assists, or use the Styler, but I'm able to still be helpful!" Jessica said with a smile as Tom gave her a loving hug.
"Even if you weren't an Operator, you'd still be useful! So Kellyn, Wendy, you're both dressed up very nicely…were you two on a…date?" Tom asked as the two became flustered.
"W-we were…and before some lightning struck and scared us all the way here, I had an amazing time…" Kellyn said as his face became red, while Wendy smiled at the thoughtful words.
"I had a beautiful time too, Kellyn." Wendy said as it was now Kellyn's turn to give her a quick kiss on the lips; which made Tom and Jessica smile.
"I remember when Jessica and I were like that as well. We started dating in Ranger School just like you guys, and then three years later, we're now at the Ranger Depot and still together." Tom said as Jessica gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Just then, the rain had let up, which the quartet that were inside, and Linda, who was still waiting outside, had noticed.
"Great timing! Looks like you guys are all safe to go!" Jessica said.
"We certainly are, take care guys!" Wendy said as they bid farewell to Tom and Jessica.
Wendy and Kellyn walked out of the Ranger Depot, hand in hand as Starly flew around Altru Park while Linda was inside of the bush, soaked and frustrated.
