Ranger School: Chapter 21

'I-I don't believe it! The two of them managed to overcome the plans I had to ruin their date! I'll get them another day…I'll let them enjoy the remnants of today.' Linda thought as she took out the Magneton's Pokéball and released it.

Afterwards, Linda sauntered away, acting as if nothing had happened. Kellyn and Wendy were contemplating what to really do next, and Kellyn came to a great idea.

"Say…since it's only three o'clock, maybe we can visit a nearby town?" Kellyn asked as Wendy's eyes lit up.

"That'd be lovely! What area did you have in mind?" Wendy asked as Kellyn pondered for a moment.

"How about Vientown? We've never been there despite the Ranger School being around the same distance from Pueltown." Kellyn said.

"I'd love to; Vientown's a lot smaller than Pueltown is, but it's still so quaint and beautiful! We've always been so busy studying, so it'd be great to go somewhere to relax!" Wendy said.

With that, Wendy and Kellyn began the walk to Vientown. Of course, both of the Ranger Students were correct; due to their frequent studying, they never got the opportunity to go to Vientown since joining the Ranger School. That alone was rather disheartening to think about, especially as most Ranger School students did just that, but neither Kellyn or Wendy let it get to them.

Always being the friendly conversation starter, Wendy chatted with Kellyn throughout the rest of Pueltown before reaching the entrance/exit of Vien Forest, which led to Vientown.

The Vien Forest itself wasn't illuminated by powerful lights that could disturb a Pokémon's sleep patterns, but rather by a neutral yellow light that the Pokémon of the forest appreciated. The paths themselves were dirt, with grass adorning areas people didn't travel to. Sign markers were plastered in specific spots so that people wouldn't get lost as well, though in the off chance that anyone did lose their bearings, the friendly Pokémon would help out.

"Wow, what a gorgeous forest! Look at how lush and vibrant it is!" Wendy said as they walked the path leading to Vientown.

"I agree, this forest is stunning!" Kellyn said.

A group of Wurmple were surrounding a Cascoon and Silcoon in a circle as the duo approached, however, the Bug-type Pokémon, sensing no malice from either Wendy or Kellyn, laid down calmly. Kellyn and Wendy smiled at the adorable sight, as it showed how Wurmple and the other Pokémon really care about one another.

"It's so nice seeing the Pokémon get along with each other; even more so because they're helping out their evolved forms!" Wendy said.

"Yeah, you're right, I think it's even better when the different species get along too!" Kellyn said as Wendy smiled and nodded in agreement.

Around thirty minutes later, the duo had reached the edge of the forest which opened out to Vientown. The town was much smaller than Pueltown, but that certainly didn't mean it wasn't as beautiful. Multiple homes adorned the lush area, along with a massive farm near the town's center.

Also in the town was a Ranger Base, along with a staircase around thirty feet away from the building, which led to the beach. Of course, Kellyn and Wendy were interested in the farm, and were eager to see the wide open space the Miltank and Mareep were provided.

As they headed to the farm and around the front, Kellyn and Wendy noticed a short and skinny man feeding a Miltank. The man, who was around four foot eleven, waved hello to the duo as they greeted him back.

"Well hello there! My name's Little Tim! I haven't seen you two around here before, pleasure to meet you!" Little Tim said.

"Hi there Little Tim, good to meet you! My name's Kellyn, and this is Wendy! In fact, this is our first time here actually! Vientown's a lovely place!" Kellyn said as Little Tim grinned.

"It certainly is, I've been here all my life! It might be quieter than most towns, but I like it!" Little Tim said.

"I've never seen so many Miltank and Mareep so clean! You've done an awesome job at upkeep!" Wendy said.

"I appreciate that, but I can't take all the credit! My wife, Big Bertha, and my better half, does an awesome job at cleanliness and upkeep just as much as I do!" Little Tim said as it began to drizzle lightly.

'Uh oh, rain, that's not good!' Kellyn thought.

"Oh! Come inside so you two don't get soaked!" Little Tim said as the two entered the section where the house is.

"Thank you, it's been raining a lot today." Kellyn said.

"Ooh boy, I know, good thing it didn't rain earlier today, or this ground would be all soaked! Say, would you guys like to try Vientown's Famous Milk Pudding?" Little Tim asked.

Kellyn and Wendy shared a quick look at one another, and happily accepted, both out of curiosity and not wanting to appear rude. Little Tim was overjoyed at their responses and he went to the fridge, retrieving two milk puddings before getting one for himself. The two Ranger Students thanked him for the snack as he handed them plastic spoons, with the duo removing the aluminum lids. Digging into the sweet snack consisting of Miltank milk, a small amount of sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract, Kellyn and Wendy couldn't help but be delighted from the simple yet delicious treat.

The trio talked throughout the rain as it picked up in intensity, and once the rain subsided and the sun came out, Kellyn and Wendy were ready to leave.

"It was great talking to you, Little Tim! Take care of yourself, and awesome milk pudding!" Kellyn said as Little Tim chuckled.

"Thanks youngster! Best of luck to you and your girlfriend in Ranger School!" Little Tim said as he and Wendy blushed while waving goodbye.

Now that the rain subsided, the duo decided to head to the Ranger Base, which had more resources than a Ranger Depot, though both were useful to towns. After that…it'd be time for Kellyn and Wendy to head to Nabiki Beach.
