Chapter Twenty-Five
"Yeah sorry, my mind was ...wondering." I replied, shaking myself and following after them. When we caught up with Tayla and John I wasn't surprised to find that we were heading in the same direction that I had felt the machinery pulling me earlier. Staying quiet I also stayed near the back keeping out of the other's lines of sights wanting some time to myself.
As I quietly walked along at the back of the group I sought out information about what the Ancients had built on this planet and why. The more I dug into the database that was stored inside my head the stronger I felt drawn to go to the fallen Ancient City that had been built and abandoned on this planet.
Suddenly the defense plans for the building flashed in my head and I immediately stopped everyone from moving with my telekinesis as I called out,
"Stop! There's an invisible shield around the fallen city. It will kill anyone who tries to enter."
Using my telekinesis I moved everyone behind me by a good twenty feet and began to walk forward keeping a hold on them in case any of them tried to run towards me.
"That includes you!" John hollered out trying to stop me causing me to give an exasperated laugh.
"Did you forget my powers John?" I replied, teleporting through the invisible shield and using my telekinesis to keep me floating up in the air.
The shield was there to do more than just keep the fallen city safe from anyone who wasn't Atlantean; it was also there to keep the city hidden because the city itself was actually thriving with life. Not an intelligent species but a special species of plant life that the Ancients had all but exterminated why they had done so I was very curious to find out.
Not wanting the others to attempt to follow me I spoke into my comm,
"I'm fine. I'm searching for a ZPM now so don't freak out." I said as I floated around inside of the large shield not wanting to accidentally crush any of the plants.
"And why didn't you teleport us with you?!" John demanded sounding slightly angry.
"There are several reasons the main one being they have a defensive mechanism that will cause this place to blow up should anyone step foot on the ground. Meaning I would have to keep all of us telekinetically floating while trying to keep us from bashing into anything and keeping an eye out for ZPM's which is more of a hassle then it's worth. I can search much quicker by myself." I replied knowing a little white lie wouldn't hurt anyone and it was the only way to make sure that no-one would try asking again.
"Okay. You could have explained that before leaving." John said his anger sounding abated.
"Sorry the Tweedle brother's looked ready to bolt on you guys and I don't think Tayla knows the area enough to get you all back to the Stargate from here." I replied not feeling very sorry at all.
After floating over the remains of the city searching for the main control room I found it and teleported back to the others finding the Tweedle brothers looking very put out and staying as far away from the invisible shield as possible while staying within eyesight of the group.
"There's no ZPM's in there, there might be some useful information in the database here but going through it would require me to stay in there and connect with it for at least a few hours. You all might want to let Doctor Weir know and please feel free to go ahead back to Atlantis. I'll go back there when I'm done searching the database." I said, causing John, Tayla, Rodney and Ronan to immediately start speaking at once while the two guides edged off a little.
"Hey Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum you two are their guides so don't you go bailing on them! The rest of you need to remember that I came along to be helpful, I've found something I can do to be so and I am going to do it." I said, causing the two guides to stop moving and the other four to shut up.
"At least wear your comm so you can contact us." John said, sounding resigned as he knew when I had made up my mind there weren't a lot of things that could change it.
"It's still in my ear. See you guys later." I said with a nod before quickly teleporting back inside of the barrier and floating over to the remnants of the main control building, whatever information it held wasn't being transmitted back to Atlantis which made me very curious about what had happened here.
~TIME SKIP~
"Huh. So the Ancients tried to wipe out this plant because it contains a certain property that when mixed with a very specific bunch of chemicals can take away their longevity as well as stop them from being able to ascend...interesting." I mussed out-loud to myself having finally finished going over all of the information that had been in the database.
"I wonder then if we could use this plant to help boost the percentage of that formula that could work against the Wraith... but if I take a plant to Atlantis and it detects the plant there might be trouble since it was programmed to immediately destroy it." I realized looking through Atlantis defensive database again.
"Randy we've all gone back through the Stargate and are in Atlantis now. Were planning on moving to the next planet on the list of possible that you gave us. Are you going to be back in time to go with us?" John's voice asked over the comm, startling me because I had forgotten I was wearing it.
Pushing the speaking button I replied, "Yeah. I've finished searching the database here, I'm coming back now."
