Chapter 27
"There's no other way to persuade them to become our allies?" John asked after a moment of silence as the group took in what I had told them.
"No. They are a warrior race and if you are not strong enough to beat them one on one they do not see you as an equal. Now I am going to fight however I plan on fighting without a weapon as I am more skilled in hand to hand combat. It's up to you four if you want to fight with weapons or without but you need to make up your minds before she picks her four other warriors." I told them as I made sure that my hair was secured enough on my head that it wouldn't fall down mid-fight.
"I will fight." Tayla said, surprising me by being the first to speak up.
"I'll fight." Ronan said almost before Tayla was done speaking.
"I guess I'll give it a try." Rodney said, sounding resigned.
"Okay, I guess we're doing this." John said, sounding almost as resigned as Rodney.
"Has your leader made their choice?" The female leader asked as she stepped out of the forest followed by four other warriors three male and one woman.
"Yes we will fight. We have our own weapons on us but we are willing to put them down before starting the fight, will we be fighting here?" I asked.
"No we will move to the plateau for our fight however we ask you leave your weapons here." She replied and I raised an eyebrow at her knowing that she planned to have some of the other natives look over our weapons while we were gone. Most likely she believed we would all fail and wanted to see if any of our things were worth taking.
"I will send our weapons to our ship." I stated instead of agreeing with what she said causing her eyes to narrow but she didn't speak again I turned my attention to the others who had been silently watching our interaction again.
"Everyone take off your current weapons. I will be transporting them to our ship then we will follow her to the plateau where our fights will take place." I told them, causing John to give me a look that I replied with a slight shake of my head telling him we would talk about it later. Everyone took off all their weapons and I mentally transported them to our cloaked ship that was hovering cloaked in the air to keep it out of their hands.
"We are ready now." I told the leader who gave a stiff nod before turning and walking into the forest as we followed her the four other warriors followed behind us and I got the distinct impression of being a mouse stuck between a family of hungry vultures which made me dig up some more information on the Wivaninx and I barely kept my disgust from showing on my face.
While the Wivaninx are highly valued warriors they didn't have many allies not only because of their strength and intelligence outclassing most others but because of their tendency to eat those who failed to win and not only that but they hunt down the home world of the losers and designated it the world for their children to go on their first ten Hunt Rituals.
"Let's not tell any of them that until we get back to Atlantis with them as our allies although I'm sure Doctor Weir will have a lot to say about this new piece of information. Heck she most likely won't want their help anymore…I for one wouldn't blame her….although maybe she could add something into their agreement that would call off that behavior...I wonder why they do it? hmmm..-*
"It is time. First your weakest fighter." The Wivaninx leader said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"She said our most unskilled fighter should go first." I told them not wanting to use the word she had because I knew Rodney would feel bad enough since he knew he wasn't very reliable in a one on one fight.
"I guess I'm up first then." Rodney said shrugging his shoulders and walking forward as one of the three male fighters that had followed the leader stepped forward as well.
"He may choose a weapon from the ones under the tree if he so wishes." The leader told me and I called out to let him know,
"Rodney she said if you want to fight with a weapon you can choose one of their's from underneath the tree there." I told him pointing to the tree.
"I have a feeling I will wind up more hurt if he has a weapon so I'll stick to my bare fists." Rodney replied and I nodded in understanding.
"He does not wish to use a weapon." I told the leader who nodded and motioned for the fight to start.
Within ten seconds Rodney was on the ground with the warrior's foot at his neck in a way that the warrior could crush Rodney's windpipe within a heartbeat.
"Next your female warrior." The very unimpressed leader told me and I nodded turning towards Tayla,
"She said for you to go next Tayla. Will you be using a weapon or not?" I asked.
"I will be using the staff." Tayla said and I nodded as she began to walk forward.
"She said she will be using the staff." I told the leader whose brow furrowed in confusion and surprise,
"That is not a weapon but a guiding tool for our animals." She replied.
"Do you wish me to tell her it is not allowed although it is underneath of the tree?" I asked making sure to point out that it was within the designated area that she had told us to pick our weapons from.
"No. She may use it. Mut-nik-ta take up the staff." The leader said cluing me in on the name of the female fighter going against Tayla. As soon as both women had a staff the fight began with a gesture from the leader, it was obvious to me that Tayla would win this fight as the Wivaninx had no knowledge of using the staff as a weapon. The fight lasted a few minutes but Tayla was ultimately the winner as she stopped the staff from crushing the warriors windpipe.
"Tell your fighter she has won and to put the staff back. Next it will be your leaders second in command." The leader said and I relayed the words to the group causing John to pipe up,
"My second in command just fought."
Holding back my smirk I relayed his words to the leader and watched her face for clues as to what she would do next, finally she spoke,
"The man who is not your leader will fight next."
"She said the man who is not the leader will fight next so Ronan your up. Will you be using a weapon?"
"No weapons." Ronan replied and I nodded.
"He said he will not be using any weapons." I told her and she nodded gesturing another warrior forward.
The fight was brutal and lasted for several minutes but eventually the leader had to call an end to it as both the warrior and Ronan were in position to kill the other.
"Tell your warrior to stand down. This fight has ended in a two way win." She told me and I nodded,
"Ronan your fight is over she said it's a two-way win." I told him and he nodded before slowly getting up and walking towards us but keeping his eyes on the warrior was eyeing him with malicious.
"Go ahead and tell her I don't plan on using any weapons either. None of the ones they have look familiar to me so I'll try my luck with my fists." John told me and I nodded relaying the information to the leader who informed her warrior.
Johns fight lasted roughly two minutes he didn't have the same raw strength as Ronan and the warrior quickly overpowered him.
"Time for our fight." The leader said and I nodded doing some quick stretches to limber up as I began to walk out the middle.
"I will not be using any weapons." I told her and she nodded before taking her position and with a nod of her head our fight began.
