Summary: In a world where super powers are the norm, a power long thought forgotten is reborn in a new host, too bad its' new holder was the antithesis of everything that it looked for in a host, as its host was one Izuku Midoriya.
Chapter 1.
A blast of wind blew green hair back and caused his eyes to tear slightly as he scrambled among the crowd that had gathered to watch the scene that unfolded before them, each trying to get a better view of the action.
There had been an attack by a villain that was a few blocks from his morning route to school and in a decision that was sure to earn him some ire from his homeroom teacher, not to mention his mother, he dashed towards the sounds of explosions. Within a few moments he caught sight of two super powered beings mid fight.
It was the current seventh ranked Pro Hero Kamui fighting some villain with a gigantification ability while several other heroes working to evacuate civilians from the surrounding buildings or contain the various onlookers that were cheering the heroes on.
To the green-haired teen that just arrived, this was a scene that rivaled some of the best action movies he had ever seen.
Kamui was using the wood manipulation abilities to swing from various structures as he confronted the villain, while another hero named Backdraft formed a barrier of water to keep people from getting to close to the action, but the teen had managed to work his way through the crowd to get a front row seat to the action.
"Get him Kamui, show that asshole what a Pro-Hero is capable of!" A man to his right shouted as the hero prepared his attack before the sky suddenly darkened.
"Canyon Cannon!"
Suddenly a woman, even larger than the villain had appeared, landing a flying kick to the villain's face, knocking him out as he flew backwards into a building, taking down a large portion of the structure with him. Leaving everyone including the pros, gobsmacked.
Turning around, the newcomer waved to crowd. "Hey all, the names Mt. Lady, and today is the day of my debut!" She said before striking a pose that highlighted a piece of her anatomy, "Pleased to make your ass-quaintance!"
The teen found himself falling backwards as various reporters and paparazzi pulled cameras that were stashed to get as many pictures of this new heroine as possible, the teen even snapped a couple with the camera on his phone as the police arrived and the crowd dispersed.
The teen hung around around as the police took custody of the villain and the heroes gave their reports before they left to continue their patrols. Soon the police followed, leaving the teen behind to look over the aftermath of the attack.
Several buildings would need repairs before they were structurally sound, the one the building the villain flew into would more than likely need to completely torn down before being rebuilt. Even the street needed repairs, several holes that could easy swallow a small car were smashed into the asphalt and earth. The result of the new heroine's landing.
It was near one of these holes we find the teen muttering to himself as he jotted down notes in a well worn notebook.
"Gigantification, a powerful quirk..." He glanced down into the hole before returning to his writing, "...but when used improperly can cause a substantial amount of property damage even when being careful. Public works should be able to repair the street and the underground utilities, but the structural damage to the surrounding building will require the use of more specialized abilities, possibly even requiring the assistance of the Hero Cementoss. With his help the buildings should be able to be occupied in under a week."
This was the world now. Even tons of destruction like this was reduced to minor inconveniences nowadays. For every hero or villain with a flashy or destructive ability there was a multitude of people with minor abilities. More than 80% of world population had some form of a special ability, even his mother had the ability to move small objects with her mind. Having a special ability in this era nothing special anymore, what was once called a super power was now the norm. Even the definition was changed with the times.
Super powers were called 'Quirks', the word's original meaning falling out of use.
The only way one was special nowadays were if you weren't special. If you were part of the population that never developed a quirk. A minority that was growing smaller with every passing year.
"Beep... Beep… Beep..."
Pulling out his phone, the teen glanced at his alarm, noting the time as he swiped the alarm off and pocketing the phone before realization set in as he began to panic, he was going to be late to school!
Sweat streamed down his brow as he slid open the door that led to his homeroom, causing the occupants of the room as well as their teacher to turn their attention to the new arrival.
"Izuku Midoriya, would you care to explain why you were..." The older man glanced at the wall clock, "...ten minutes late to homeroom?"
The boy now known as Izuku paused a moment to catch his breath before answering. "Villain attack, Mr. Miyagi."
"Ah yes," The teacher said as he shuffled some papers on his podium, "I heard about that in the teacher's lounge earlier. Something about a villain that overreacting to being caught purse snatching that escalated."
"He had a gigantification quirk sir."
"Yes, heard about that too. Was eventually stopped by a new hero."
"Mt. Lady sir"
"Indeed. Happened on Miata Street correct?"
Izuku found himself nodding before he realized the point his homeroom teacher was trying to make.
"Miata Street is several blocks out of the way from your current route, yes?"
Izuku just nodded, ignoring the snickers that several of his classmates were making. Thankfully his teacher relented in embarrassing him further.
"Take a seat Midoriya, as for being tardy, I expect a two page report about the villain attack on my desk before the end the day."
"Yes sir." Izuku said quietly as he sat down at his desk, ignoring the giggles and snickers that surrounded him.
"Quiet!" Mr. Miyagi commanded as he picked the up the papers that he shuffled earlier, "This is your final year of school, and myself as well as my fellow teachers were given the task to turn the lot of you into fully functional adults by the end of the school year. Part of that task was getting an idea what all of you had planned after you finish regular schooling, be it college, trade schools, or one of the various hero schools."
"But..." Miyagi said before tossing the stack of papers over his shoulder, "Let's be honest, everyone of you are going to apply for hero courses..."
"Tch! Don't lump me with these extras, Sensei." Said a student that was leaning back at his desk.
Miyagi focused on the blonde student that made that remark. "Katsuki Bakugou, you applied for U.A. with no backup choices correct?"
"The best for the best, Sensei. I'm going to be the number one Hero and to do that I need to go to the best school." The teen said cockily.
"Midoriya did the same."
Nearly falling backwards out of his seat, Katsuki struggled to regain his balance before falling forward, slamming his palm on surface of the desk leaving a scorch mark.
Izuku shuddered as found himself once again the center of the class' attention.
"Don't think of lumping me and that loser together, teach. Loser doesn't even have a quirk. Don't even know why he's wasting the schools time applying."
"U.A. accepts applications from anyone as long as they don't have a criminal record. Midoriya's disability doesn't bar him from applying."
'Disabled, that's what the current view on being quirk less was, a disability, a hindrance even.' Izuku thought bitterly as he tried to ignore the glare that Katsuki was shooting him.
"Now before you run your mouth even further Bakugou, Midoriya holds one the highest averages in the class..."
Izuku could literally see smoke starting to emit from Katsuki has glare even became more pointed.
"...Higher than yours in fact."
It was at that moment, that Izuku knew his day had officially gone from bad to worse, as Katsuki now began to spark randomly as Izuku tried to look to at anything but Katsuki as their teacher was inadvertently digging Izuku's grave deeper by the second.
Thankfully the chime that signaled the end of homeroom rung, causing Miyagi to stop digging Izuku's grave any deeper than it already was, though Izuku could tell that Bakugou was going to give him hell later if the glare the boy giving him was any indication.
"Midoriya, do you mind holding back a minute? I have something I want to discuss with you."
Izuku looked up from packing his bag as the other students filed out of the room, just leaving the teen with alone in the room with his teacher.
"Sir?"
"I wanted to ask you about your choice of going to U.A. considering..." Miyagi hesitated as he thought about how he was going to word his question, "...condition. Now I understand that the general studies courses have no issues with someone in your state, but you put down that you plan to apply for the hero program..."
Izuku inwardly winced as he listened to his teacher try to dance around saying that he was 'quirk-less', and from the sounds of it the man he was going to be another one telling him to give up on being a hero…
"...you understand that will going against others that have quirks."
'Here it comes… the whole "You can't be a hero Izuku, you should choose something else..." speech'
"So you're going to need an edge, something that will put yourself at an advantage against your peers."
"Listen Miyagi-sensei I heard it before but I'm not going to change my…" Izuku said before realizing that his teacher wasn't telling him he couldn't be a hero. "Wait, what?"
The older man just smirked. "Thought I was going to tell you to change your mind? That you can't be a hero? That's bullshit and you know it."
Izuku just stood there gobsmacked. his teacher supported his dreams? That was something that just didn't happen to him.
Seeing that Izuku wasn't going to interrupt him again, he continued. "Quirks don't automatically make a person suited be a hero. For every hero out there with an amazing quirk, there is dozens if not hundreds of other people out there with a mundane or even useless quirk. Take mine for example…" Miyagi raised his right hand and concentrated for a moment before a thick liquid came out of the tips of his index finger.
Izuku watched as his teacher formed a large dollop of the liquid before wiped his finger against the top of teachers podium before pulling a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped down the top of the podium.
"...I produce a substance that's comparable to a furniture polish, but I can only produce it from both of my index fingers and only enough of it to polish maybe half of this podium before I run out for the day. Now combine my quirk, with my name and you can imagine the hell that I went through when I was around your age..."
Miyagi made a gesture with left hand that looked like he was cleaning an imaginary window, "Wax on..." Before he repeated the gesture with his right, "Wax off."
Izuku just blinked, not getting the reference his teacher was making.
"Karate Kid? Late twentieth century American movie about a teen learning karate from an elderly Japanese man?"
"I'm sorry sir, but I never saw that movie."
"You got to be kidding me..." Miyagi exclaimed with a bit of exasperation in his tone. "Even with all the crap the Americans did over the years, the 1980's was a great decade for their movies, so many classics… But never mind that for now. What were we talking about before I found out that my favorite student doesn't appreciate good movies?"
Izuku smiled that the 'favorite student' comment. "You were talking about your quirk sir."
"Oh right. So I'm basically a furniture wax dispenser and not even a great one at that. I have a quirk but its pretty much useless, and you know what? That didn't stop me from applying to U.A."
Now that surprised Izuku, he never knew that his homeroom was U.A. alumni.
"I can see the look on your face, Midoriya. U.A. is more than the Hero and support courses. Their general education course is also one of the best in the country. Though I do have a bit of advice to give you, be weary of those in the support course, they can be a little bit… off."
"Off sir?"
"Just a bit dedicated to their tasks. Nothing bad mind you just a bit overly dedicated. But back to the point. Do you know what you have that the others in your class don't?" Miyagi asked.
He stuck a finger out and tapped Izuku right in the middle of his forehead. "You have a brilliant mind. Now I've spoken with your other teachers and they say the same thing. You seem to absorb information as soon as its given, you notice even the most minute details around you. They also mention the habit you have of muttering and if I wasn't a smart man I would assume that you were somewhere on the spectrum..."
"I'm not autistic sir. I was tested when I entered elementary."
"I know, I saw your reports. But we're getting away from the point. You're smart, the smartest student I ever had the pleasure of teaching in my career so far. So if anyone had a chance to pass the U.A. entrance exam in this class, it would be you followed by Bakugou."
The school bell chimed once signaling that there was two minutes for the students to return to their rooms the begin the day's scheduled classes.
"Well Midoriya, that's my cue and I need to prepare for my classes still. Just think about what we've discussed and remember I expect that report by the end of the day,"
With that said, his teacher walked back to the podium and finished putting the rest of his paperwork in his bag before making his way towards to door pausing for a moment to nod at Izuku before he passed through the threshold, leaving Izuku alone to think about just what his teacher had told him.
The first half of the school day passed in a blur for Izuku. The morning classes were mostly review for the students, a refresher of information that some needed to prepare for their upcoming exams, while the afternoon period was set aside for the electives and various clubs, which left Izuku more than enough time to work on the report of this morning's attack.
Finding an unused classroom, Izuku placed his bag down as he took out his lunch and spare notebook before taking a bite out of a sandwich as he flipped the notebook to a blank page.
"Now how should I begin..."
"Where the hell is that green headed bastard?" Katsuki growled under his breath as he prowled the halls between periods.
"I checked the roof, no one up there except one couple." Extra 1 said with a blush crossing his features, something that caused Katsuki to narrow his eyes.
"Why are you blushing?"
"They were a bit...busy." The blush deepened further. "Really busy."
Bakugou just growled, the lightest tinge of red dusting his cheeks as he turned to Extra 2. "And you? You find him yet?"
"Nothing boss."
Katsuki drew a breath, trying to calm himself down. These two weren't his friends, more like lackeys and it was things like this that made him not bother with learning their names. They were useful to bounce some random idea off of, but anything that needed two or more brain cells? Goddamn useless.
"Boss that was the bell, we need to get to class or we're going to marked late."
Katsuki could only curse but nodded nonetheless. Deku could wait and he would be damned before he let himself mar his perfect attendance record. He'd just find the bastard after this period come hell or high water.
A two page essay had somehow grown into a ten page report that would have made even the most hard ass of police chiefs proud. The first three pages were dedicated to the villain attack with a brief summary of each participants role, while the following pages listed a more detailed summary of each of the heroes with small sketches of the heroes, Izuku even going so far to write some small suggestions to what the heroes could have done in that situation. Now all that was left to finish his sketch of Mt. Lady then he could spend the rest of his day updating his journal of heroes. But as soon as he started working on the shading of the heroine's costume he heard the door to the classroom slide open, revealing the last person he wanted to see.
"There you are, you quirk-less fuck."
Izuku just heaved a sigh as looked towards the ash blond teen, "What do you need Bakugou?"
He wasn't going to call him Kacchan, not after what the boy had done to him years ago…
"You know what you did..." Katsuki ground out as he stepped through the doorway, revealing that his two followers were with him as they each took a position guarding the entrance to the room, leaving Katsuki and Izuku as the sole occupants in the room. "What makes you think you have a right to apply to U.A.? You, a quirk-less nobody?"
Izuku just slid his books back into his bag before standing up and making his way towards Katsuki, stopping just in front of the taller boy.
"I can do anything I want, Bakugou."
"You can't do anything, Deku." Katsuki said as he jabbed a finger into Izuku's shoulder.
"You..." Jab.
"Are..." Another jab.
"A quirk-less loser..." Each word was punctuated with another jab with a small explosion accenting the word loser which forced Izuku to wince at the sharp jab of pain.
A grin more befitting a villain crossed Katsuki's face. "The only way you a loser like you could become a hero, is to kill yourself and hope you have a quirk in the next life."
It was that comment, that suggestion, that caused something to snap in the usually mild mannered teen. Green eyes seemingly flashed, something that Katsuki to take a step back before the sound a fist striking flesh echoed through the empty classroom...
Extras 1 and 2 just stood guard as their boss entered the room, surely reminding Quirkless where his place stood in the school hierarchy. They could hear Katsuki say something to Midoriya but the words were muffled by the sliding door, but they couldn't hear any response from boy but all they heard was silence before the sound of a body striking a desk surprised them.
Extra 1 raised his arm to open the door, to see what had happened before he felt a hand stop him. It was Extra 2.
"Wait…"
So he did. The silence was deafening, he could actually hear his breaths, even his own heartbeat before the sound of the door sliding startled the two, revealing a glaring Midoriya.
"Move." The greenette ordered as the two lackeys nearly fell over themselves to get out of Izuku's way before he made his way down the hall, leaving the two sitting there speechless.
Finally one of them broke the silence. "The hell was that man? I'd never seen Midoriya looked so pissed in my life."
It was Katsuki that answered as he stepped out from the room, rubbing the back of his thumb against his bottom lip making a 'tch' sound as he noticed the red on his thumb.
"Turns out quirk-less doesn't like it when someone tells him the truth."
"Midoriya hit you?"
"Barely hurt," Katsuki growled, trying to ignore the numbing sensation as his lip as it began to swell, "Fuck it, lets just get this day over with."
Nodding in agreement, his two lackeys started towards the classroom that held the last class the three shared, not noticing that Katsuki held back, staring down the direction that Izuku went for a few a moments before turning back to follow.
Izuku tried to put Katsuki's remark into the back of his mind, but the fact that his ex-childhood friend made a remark so terrible, so heinous, just had him seeing red.
How could that bastard even make the suggestion that he should just kill himself, that he'd have a better chance in the next life with a quirk.
Didn't he have enough on his plate as it was, dealt with more than enough hardships in his life…
"Midoriya-senpai?"
Izuku paused his angry mutterings as he heard the quiet voice that came from behind him. It was also then that he realized that he was lost in his thoughts that he had walked his way to school library.
"Are you okay, Senpai?"
There was the voice again, asking if he was okay.
Glancing around he saw no one before some sixth sense told him to look down. There looking up at him, was a rather simple looking girl. Black hair pulled into pigtails, skin slightly tanned from gym classes or a sport club, with a pair of deep brown eyes behind a rather simple pair of wire rimmed glasses.
"You were muttering something as you walked in and didn't say anything when I called your name."
Izuku just rubbed the back of his head. "Sorry, had a lot on my mind. I didn't bother anyone did I?"
The girl just giggled, bending slightly. "You're fine Senpai. The library is usually empty this time of day so its just the two of us."
'Well that's good, didn't make an ass of myself too badly but...' "Excuse me, this may sound a bit rude but I don't think we've ever met. How do you know my name"
"Well you have a bit of a reputation..."
'Oh god no...' Midoriya panicked, it was bad enough that he was known as the quirk-less loser in his grade, he didn't need his underclassmen to know that fact.
"…That you're really smart, but you have the bad habit of muttering under your breath at times."
'Wait, what?'
The girl just giggled at his flabbergasted face. "But don't worry about that. A lot of my classmates think that your muttering is kind of cute."
Okay it was official, Izuku Midoriya officially struck dumb.
"Uh..."
"But enough about that. You didn't answer my question."
"Oh… just had a disagreement with a classmate."
It was then he heard the one thing that he never imagined he would.
"You want to talk about it?"
Hayou Miyagi let out a sigh as he watched his last student file out of the classroom. It was one of those days and while he loved his job and never regretted taking up the mantle of an educator, his last class of the day made him feel underappreciated.
He couldn't fault his students though. The subject that he taught wasn't the most exciting compared to some of the others the school taught, it was also one of the reasons that it was an elective class instead of a mandatory one. 'The effects of quirks on society' didn't exactly have the same grandeur as 'Quirk Theory'. But he loved the subject nonetheless.
Knock, knock.
Miyagi looked up from his paperwork to the doorway where the sound came from, find the familiar face of Izuku Midoriya looking in.
"May I come in, Miyagi-sensei?"
"You have that report for me Midoriya?"
The teen nodded as he reached into his bag and pulled out a small stack of papers and walked towards his homeroom teacher.
"Its a bit longer that you said it had to be, but I wanted to be thorough as possible."
Miyagi smiled, he loved when a student put forth their full effort into something without being told to, a little surprised at the thickness of the report as his student handed it to him. It was a quite a bit more than the three pages he asked, flipping through the papers he could see chunks of texts with various sketches interspersed throughout before coming to the final page, whistling lowly as he looked at a full page illustration of who he assumed was Mt. Lady in costume.
"Midoriya..." He glanced at his student before returning to the drawing, "...you have one hell of a talent when it comes to drawing."
Izuku involuntarily blushed at the sudden praise.
"Why you didn't sign up for the art club is a question that should be answered, but I'm sure you have your reasons. Is this what Mt. Lady wore at this morning's attack?"
"I drew it from memory sir."
Miyagi whistled again as he appreciated his student's attention to certain details, that were this not his favorite student, he'd be busting their ass for well they drew certain details.
"Impressive work." Miyagi said as he tucked the papers into his briefcase before turning back to his student. "By the way, I passed Bakugou earlier. That fat lip have something to do with you?"
Miyagi noted how fast his student looked down and sudden tensing of body. 'Turns out I hit the nail on the head.'
"Well couldn't have happened to a better person. Hopefully he'll learn that no matter what kind of pedestal the other faculty puts him on, he isn't invincible and his actions will have consequences."
That surprised Izuku, all the other teachers constantly praised Katsuki, praised his quirk and his drive while ignoring his attitude towards others.
"And for you to be the one to do it..." Miyagi brought his hand to his mouth before making a smooching sound, "was perfect."
"I would think you wouldn't approve of violence between students, Sensei."
"Midoriya, Bakugou thinks of himself above everybody be it fellow students or even his teachers..." Miyagi said before he pointed at Izuku. "...and he treats you like you aren't even human. That's the crap that should have been taken care of back when you were kids, not when the two of you are eighteen..." Miyagi held up a finger to stop Izuku from interrupting. "I know you have history with him outside of school, and I'm sorry for your loss, but that doesn't give him the right to treat you the way he does. That's why I'm not going to give you crap for popping him one. I know you Izuku, and for you to actually go to violence means that Bakugou said or did something terrible enough that he deserved it."
"But..." Miyagi smacked the top of the podium with his palm, his attitude doing a 180 as a smile returned to his face. "...enough about that. You're practically an adult, old enough to marry, decide to serve with the defense force, even vote. You don't need some teacher preaching to you."
"I..." Izuku started.
"Midoriya, I'm just going to give you some words of advice. You need to relax a bit, you're way to high strung for someone your age. You have a good head on your shoulders and outside of Bakugou and his cronies, the rest of the class likes you so don't worry about that. You should be focusing on finishing this year strong and preparing for the entrance exams of U.A. But remember the wise words of Jack Torrence, 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.'
Miyagi just sighed as he watched another movie reference go over his student's head, this was going to be something that he was going to fix come hell or high water.
Izuku just quirked a brow as he watched his teacher mutter under his breath as he appeared to be writing a list down on a scrap piece of a paper before finding said paper jammed under his nose.
"Midoriya, I have a sort of extracurricular project for you, think of it as extra credit. I want you to watch each of these movies by the end of the school year. You don't have to watch them all right away but I expect you to have them finished by the time you graduate. Some of these movies will teach you important life lessons, others I chose because they are just pure awesome, but I can assure you that you will be a better person for watching them."
"I'm not sure Miyagi-sensei..."
Miyagi grabbed the teen by the shoulders, pulling him close. "Listen kid, I know my shit. I teach a class about culture. Its because of movies like these that I am the man I am today. I landed myself a pretty young thing as my wife. Speaking of which..." Miyagi twisted his wrist so he could see his watch, "...I need to get going soon. I promised my wife that I would be home early today and who knows? Maybe if I play my cards right, I'll get lucky tonight."
Miyagi chose to ignore the look of horror that crossed Izuku's face at that comment.
"Now get your ass out of here Midoriya. I told you what you needed to know and wipe that look off your face. A healthy sex life is key to keeping a long term relationship fresh and vibrant."
"And with that said." He released his hold on the boy, "Its time for the both of us to get out of here. I have a wife waiting for me and you… well I have no idea what you do when you leave school so I'm going to assume you do what other kids around your age do. But remember what I told you. You have plenty of time before the entrance exams and I'll say it again but you do have a good head on your shoulders so don't let Bakugou get to you. Just focus on your finishing your studies here and maybe a little more physical conditioning. Brains will only get you so far in the exam and there will be times when you need to back yourself up. Now come on, I'll walk you out to the gate."
Izuku just muttered to himself as he walked home, taking the various shortcuts that led from his school to the apartment that he shared with his mother, all the while thinking about the various things that had happened to him through the day. His altercation with Katsuki, to the various bit of advice his teacher gave him, even the talk he had with underclassmen in the library which reminded him that he never even caught the girl's name…
"Then there's this list that Miyagi-sensei gave me." Izuku said to no one as he pulled the piece of paper from his jacket pocket, silently reading as he continued his walk home, unaware of the rattling that was coming from the manhole he just passed. "Why did he write Evil Dead 2 but not the first one? Why would he have me skip the first one? Wait he wrote something down in smaller writing… What does he mean I'll never look at trees the same way again if I watch it?"
It was then he noticed something out of the corner of vision, something stalking behind him but as he turned the felt himself falling into the darkness. Vision darkening as he felt a thick sludge slide down his throat and invade his nose he could have sworn that he heard someone talking, someone apologizing to him, but before he could figure out who, the world went black as consciousness left him.
Erubetie wept as she slid through the tunnels that was the local sewer system in an attempt to escape from her pursuer. She hadn't meant to steal that woman's purse but she was scared and wasn't paying attention while she was running.
She didn't know who they were or what they wanted with her, but the last three weeks were a blur with bits of hell interspersed when she was conscious enough during their experiments. She heard murmurs as they worked but she wasn't lucid enough to get a full understanding except for the word 'quirk'. They wanted her for her quirk, which she just couldn't understand.
Her quirk wasn't anything impressive, the most she could do was turn her bones into a gel like substance preventing fractures at the cost of losing the ability to support her own body, making even the act of drawing breath a near impossible task. She learned that the first time she used her quirk when she was but a child, falling from tree as she attempted to retrieve a ball her little brother had accidentally thrown.
She ended up spending two days in the hospital before the doctors felt she was fit to leave. Two years of quirk therapy to get a handle on her quirk so she wouldn't accidentally suffocate herself when she used her quirk and that was just to try and live a normal life.
Eru never wanted to be a hero or a villain. She just wanted to finish college and open a clothing boutique with a few of friends. But then she went to that mixer before leaving with one of the guys that came with other group. She had expected the taxi to take them to a love hotel, maybe the guy's apartment, not heading towards the shadier side Mustafu. Then she felt the sharp pain in her neck then there was nothing.
The next time she was awake, she found herself strapped to some table while a surgical light blinded her, not letting her see her current surroundings. She could hear voices too, but the drugs that were in her system rendered them unintelligible but she felt the needle that jabbed her veins, felt the sensation of blood being drawn before she felt her consciousness leaving yet again.
This was repeated daily for several weeks. Blood would be drawn, sometimes there would be an injection of something that caused her body to burn from within, but she was never lucid enough to see her captors, just enough to realize they never bothered with clothing her, leaving her shame to be exposed to all present.
It was toward the end of what she assumed was the second week that the stuff they were injecting her with was really beginning to have an effect. The burning sensation that was becoming normal to her had replaced itself with the feeling of ice water flowing through her veins as her body grew heavy.
Eru soundlessly screamed as she noticed her flesh go from its normal looking form to a translucent blue, watching as layer by layer, tissue turned translucent till she could see her very bones before they too disappeared. She didn't feel the hands that clamped down on her in attempt to stop her thrashing, only barely noticing that fingers had sunk into her flesh as she felt her body start to lose cohesion, slipping through the restraints that had held her down previously. Before landing on the floor with splat.
The sudden removal from the surgical lights had left her temporarily blinded, leaving the forms of her captors amorphous shadows silhouetted by the lamps. But she had to get away from them, get back to her family and friends, get to somewhere that wasn't here.
It was then she felt it, the slightest sensation of a breeze that tickled her flesh. She could smell fresh air, she could escape!
Unconsciously acting she dodged all the attempts her captors made at containing her, sliding between feet and separating bits of herself as she dragged herself towards the source of the breeze, the drainage grate in the middle of the floor. Before finding herself on top of it as she willed her body to slide through the centimeter wide openings trying to ignore the feeling of her body splitting apart she felt herself slide through the cold metal and enter the darkness of drainage pipe. Not even realizing that she was moving through a pipe a that would be a tight fit for a golf ball as she hurried to get away.
Eru had no idea how long she slid through that pipe but after some time she sensed the pipe opening to wider one as she heard the sound of flowing liquid.
Quickening her pace, she rushed towards the sounds till she saw light ahead. She didn't even notice that the opening of the pipe was covered in a grate, unconsciously willing herself to slide through the barrier as she fell a short distance into a man made stream of water.
Panicking, she grabbed towards the edge of the stream lest she be carried the away by the strong current, before she felt her strength return to her as she heaved herself out of the water and onto the concrete bank that bordered the stream on both sides of the tunnel.
It was then she realized had an arm again, translucent but still oddly solid, she even had her fingers again which she wiggled, feeling how oddly foreign yet similar they felt.
Turning her head she found her left arm had reformed as the right one had, a blue arm ending at a blue hand with four fingers and a thumb. Though looking down at her body, she had to stop herself from screaming.
Her body seemed to end at her what would be the top of her chest, everything below was a puddle of blue gel, the same color as her arms. She could feel that the puddle was part of herself, she could even the feel the droplets of water landing on it from the water, she couldn't believe it so she did the only one would do in her situation, she passed out.
Eru wasn't sure how much time had passed when she woke up, except that she was still in the storm sewer, she was still blue, but she now had legs and feet. Her body had reformed itself in her sleep, including all the details, her birthmark was still there on her thigh, the petal shaped mark a slightly darker blue compared to the rest of the thigh. She even noticed her toes and fingers had nails, albeit slightly longer than what she was accustomed to. But she was still blue, still see through. She could even make out the cracks in the concrete under her leg, through her leg.
She wasn't even sure how she was still alive, was she even human anymore? Humans needed organs to live, lungs to breath, a heart to pump blood through the body. But she could see through her chest, past her chest. How was she even supporting herself without bones? She could feel her flesh give much more than it should when she pressed a hand against her stomach, squeaking when realized that her hand had sunk wrist deep into it before she felt her fingers poke through her back.
What had those freaks done to her. It was like… it was like they turned into one of those slime monsters from her little brother's game.
She had to find somebody, anybody that could help. Eru wasn't even sure how far she was from that underground lab or if her captors had sent anyone to recapture her, to take her back so they could continue their experiments on her. She had to get away, get away from here as far as possible, as soon as possible. So she pulled herself up while unconsciously covering herself in an attempt to preserve whatever modesty she had left as looked towards the water that was rushing by.
The water was clean and she couldn't smell anything to bad so that meant it had to be coming from the storm drains, meaning they must've emptied into the bay or maybe the river. So if she followed the water she would find the outside, then she could find someone that could get help or maybe a phone. Then she should contact her family or the police…
And it was a sound plan, or so she thought as followed the water but it soon became obvious the water was flowing deeper, taking her further underground with each step she took. Eru needed to get to the surface and this was taking her the opposite way she needed to go. So with nothing but instinct to go on, she stepped away from the storm water and began the search for a tunnel or maintenance that would lead to the surface and she found several.
Eru also discovered that Mustafu was severely lacking when it came to the upkeep of its tunnel system. She had come across several access doors that were sealed shut with rust and the metal that made the ladder rungs were in even worse shape as she fell through one as she was half way up it.
She also discovered to a mix of horror and fascination that her body was now capable of separating bits of itself with no real harm to herself, as she quickly noticed the lack of a left and when she went to rub her hip when landed down on the ground, only find her hand was still attached to ladder that was several meters above her.
'Okay that's a bit weird' Eru thought as she stared at her misplaced appendage before something in the back of her mind told her to point her wrist towards the hand as she watched in astonishment as her arm stretched the distance till it made contact, with her hand reattaching before her arm snapped back into its original form at her side.
"Okay, not going to lie, that is beyond cool."
Reaching her arm out again, she willed the appendage to stretch again, reaching towards the ladder she had fallen off of before feeling the hand grab onto one of the rungs that felt like it was still sound before using her other arm to repeat the action before finding both hands had a firm grip on the ladder.
"Now I stretch if I think stretch, will I shrink if I think shrink?" She asked herself before feeling the tug of her arms pulling her body towards them. "I'll take that as a yes."
Now back on the ladder she continued her climb, finding the safety hatch was in much better condition than the ladder was, requiring the barest of effort to open. Now she was in a utility tunnel, water and gas lines running against the wall. She could even feel the humming the must've came off the power lines that ran down the ceiling.
She couldn't the deep now. Maintenance workers needed to have easy access to these tunnels, especially now in the age of heroes and villains. All she had to find was another access grate, which surprisingly didn't take too long. Now she had another problem, the grate had to weigh several hundred kilos and there no way she would ever be able to move the thing on her own…
Hiyao Mizaki was a simple man. He liked simple things, good food and good booze and he got plenty of the latter tonight and why wouldn't he. His company had just finished a project months ahead of schedule and now received a bonus with his team taking the lion's share of it. So no one could fault him for taking his team out to celebrate.
The food was excellent, the alcohol even more so. So after enjoying more than a healthy share of both, he waved his team off as each member hailed a taxi before he decided to walk instead of wasting the money on a taxi for himself. He only lived a few blocks from this restaurant and he'd be fine to walk after he got some fresh air in his system, he'd just take a bit of a breather in the alley that ran behind the restaurant.
So that's just what he did, nursing a cigarette as he waited for the alcohol and food in his system to come to an agreement, all the while as he took in the atmosphere of the alley. It was surprisingly clean for an alley that ran behind several businesses, well lit too.
Mizaki exhaled a plume of smoke as he watch a moth flit about one of the lights before he noticed a strange sound coming from the grate that was to his left. It almost sounded like a fluid being squeezed through something. Then he saw it, a thick blue goo was oozing from under the grate, spreading across the ground before it started to collect upon itself before it formed an arm and started to reach for him…
Hiyao Mizaki would forever be known after that moment as the man who could scream louder than a tween girl.
That was two days ago.
Eru had spent the last two days hiding in the utility tunnels of Musutafu. The first time she tried to go to the surface she came across a man that screamed like a girl when she reformed halfway out of the grate, revealing a head and a single arm. Now that had drawn attention to her, none of it good. Heads poked out of various windows and she saw a pair of cars block both ends of the alley before men that she could only describe as thugs exited the vehicles and made a break straight in her direction.
It was the barest bit of luck that she managed to pull herself back past the grate, dropping down as she heard footsteps coming from outside before she heard grunting coming from the grate as someone or someones attempted to open it. But she didn't wait to see if they could manage opening it, choosing instead to run deeper into the tunnels.
It was less than fifteen minutes later she heard sounds of someone running behind her and it was quick thinking that told her to drop to the ground and squeeze behind one the pipes that stretched along the wall as she hid and waited as the footsteps got closer before she saw two pairs of feet not a meter from where she was hiding.
"Did you see which way she went?"
"No, she has to be up ahead, we would have seen her if she tried to slip by us. Keep looking!"
Eru listened and waited as the footstep ran deeper into the tunnels before sliding out of her hiding place, new thoughts of terror racing across her mind. The people who kidnapped her were still looking for her, to take her back, to experiment on her. She needed to hide, then find somewhere she could reach the surface without people seeing her…
That was the plan, but she was still hiding down in the storm sewer two days later.
She had tried sneaking out twice, and both times she was spotted by someone before she was chased back into the sewers by people in black vehicles. People who stayed and searched the sewers longer and longer each time, nearly catching her the last time.
Now she was getting hungry and thirsty. Her thoughts were becoming cloudier, her body getting harder to control as her thirst grew. Even keeping her form was taking more effort than normal and she worried what would happen if she let it go too far. Would she just fall apart? Her body washing away with the storm water?
Before her mind led her further to darker thoughts, the sounds from the surface echoed through the tunnels. Eru could hear people talking, some voices haggling while others shouted out deals, even the voices of children as they called out to each other or to ask their parents if they could buy something.
She must've made her way to the sewers that ran under the market when she fled. But this could work for her.
Every time she tried to leave the sewer, she was spotted then pursued. But with this many people to act as witnesses, those goons wouldn't dare to try and kidnap her. she'd be able to slip through the crowd, maybe find help. She just needed to do it without drawing too much attention to herself…
Izuku snapped awake as he could feel himself breathe again. His body felt heavy as he sat up, minutely aware that he could feel something viscous slide away from arms and down his torso. Opening his eyes, he saw that he was covered in some kind of blue goo. Did he get hit by someone's quirk?
He didn't notice the manhole cover rattle as he scraped as much of the goo away, wincing as he felt the hairs on his arms get pulled out with every wipe, idly noting that the hairs seemed to be longer than he thought they would've been but he would question that later as he continued to scrape the gunk from his body before a booming voice caused him to nearly jump out of his skin.
"Are you okay, young man?"
Spinning around, Izuku nearly fainted as he caught sight of his favorite hero standing there, dressed… dressed well pretty casually. White t-shirt stretched tightly across a broad chest, pair of black pants held up with a belt with an All Might buckle. All Might looked more akin to a person out on an errand rather than being the number one hero.
"You didn't see a villain run by here did you? I followed them into the sewers but lost track of them when they escaped to the surface..."
Izuku nearly screamed again when All Might got closer and reached towards him.
"...Young man, I think you're covered in the villain I was pursuing and while I admit I'm happy that you managed to defend yourself, I cannot approve the unauthorized use of a quirk..."
Izuku shook away the feeling of horror that he was covered in someone and not something before his mind noted what All Might had said to him.
"I didn't do..." The teen gestured to all the goo that still covered him. "...This. I was just walking home from school then I blacked out. I was like this when I woke up. I had nothing do with this."
All Might just scrutinized him further, examining the remains of the villain the teen was currently covered in.
"And it's not like I could do something like this to begin with." Izuku muttered, "It's not like I have a quirk..."
All Might's antenna-like hair seemed to twitch at that remark.
"Young man, you must've done something. The villain's quirk seemed to let them become like a liquid and slip through barriers and cracks that I could not, that was also the reason that I didn't arrive in time to to prevent the attack on your person, though you don't seem to worse for wear."
"I'm covered in villain goo..."
"Ah yes, I have just the thing for that..." All Might said as he rummaged through before withdrawing a hand and dropping a All Might sized handful of little foil squares into Izuku's hands. "These will do the trick."
Izuku just stared at the little packets, his mind trying to come up with a reason to just what a bunch of condoms would do for him in this situation.
"All Might… sir, I don't know what you've heard about people my age, but I don't think condoms are going to help me now..."
The hero just looked at the teen for a moment before glancing down to the packets he handed him.
"No young man, you are quite mistaken. While those may look like prophylactics, they are something else as, if not more important..." All Might said as he grabbed a packet from the pile he gave the teen, tearing the package before pulling out a folded up, white piece of cloth. "These are wet naps! No one should be without a few of these on their person. They are handy for when you have a messy meal or..." He gestured to the goo covered teen, "…an unfortunate incident with a villain."
"You carry wet wipes with you?" Izuku asked, quirking a brow at hero before him, receiving a nod in response, before he opened one of the packets and began the task of cleaning villain off his uniform, noticing that all the bits that he wiped off or fell off him seems to moving towards the largest mass of remaining goo.
"Ah, it seems the villain is still with us. I'll be back in a moment young man, I need to find something to contain the villain, those with sludge quirks can be quite the pickle to keep captured."
Izuku just nodded as he watched All Might bound off towards a recycling bin before turning back to watch the goo coalesce together on the ground for a few moments before he heard All Might cursing about how only villains don't separate burnable trash from the recyclables. Drawing his attention away from the growing puddle at his feet as he watched his hero begin to meticulously sort refuse, only looking back when he felt the odd tugging sensation on his skin.
The blue goo he was covered with was starting to come off on its own, drawn to the main mass, faster and faster as the main mass grew in size before it was literally sloughing off him in thick ropes. Finally the puddle started to morph into something, liquids coming together to form limbs, then a torso followed by the neck and head. Then details became apparent, hollows in the head formed for the eyes and mouth, while a small bump became the nose. Izuku watched in fascination before the voice of All Might echoed behind him.
"Aha! Found something that would work to contain the villain!"
Izuku wasn't sure what he could to say when All Might held up a pair of two liter bottles like they were carnival prizes, but he was positive they wouldn't be enough to contain the growing volume before him.
Looking down, he noted the arms and legs now had a pair of hands and feet, with the appropriate amount of digits before he noticed an odd swelling on the villains chest before he felt himself flush. The villain was a woman… a naked woman. In fact becoming more womanly as the seconds passed as the chest grew breasts and further details followed.
Izuku swallowed dryly as he saw her nipples form before he whipped off the blazer from his uniform and covered the woman in an act to protect her modesty.
"What's the matter young man…" All Might asked as he walked back to Izuku with the soda bottles in hand, before he noticed the puddle had turned into a translucent young woman.
"Oh..." All Might said awkwardly as he looked between the green haired teen and unconscious woman. He didn't know it was a woman when he began pursuit. All he had seen was an blue blob that slipped through the crowd with a purse floating in its mass.
Speaking of which he reminded himself that he needed to return said purse back to its owner once this matter was settled, he had manage to retrieve it when the villain slipped through a sewer grate in its escape, the object too large to pass through the holes in the metal.
It was this ability to slip through passages too narrow for him to pass that allowed the villain to gain a lead on him in the sewers, almost losing him several times before she must've returned to surface and ambushed the teen. Not once did her form look like anything but a formless blob.
He glanced to the pair of soda bottles he had planned to contain her before dropping her off to the police, but seeing the villain in her complete form nixed that. He was going to need to make a phone call…
Izuku glanced between All Might and the woman before the former tucked the bottles he was carrying under one arm and pulled out a cellphone, gesturing that he needed to make a call. Leaving Izuku to watch over the unconscious woman.
Ignoring the sound of All Might talking into his phone, Izuku took into details of the woman. The most obvious of which was the woman was blue, with flesh that was translucent enough that he could see ground through her body easily though it was a little blurry, and every bit of her seemed to be made out of the same blue gel that was flesh, even her hair or what he would think of hair was made from the gel.
Now Izuku had heard of people that had quirks like she had. Bodies made from a thickened liquid, there was even another villain that was captured the year prior that could turn into a blob, could even take control of a person if he managed to envelop them. But he was quickly caught, by All Might, now that Izuku thought about it.
But the girl that laid before him didn't seem to be villainous. He could remember a voice apologizing to him before his world went black, and looking at her now he could see the girl's face grimacing even in sleep before he heard her whimper.
Kneeling, Izuku stretched a hand to her forehead in an attempt to comfort her before the sound of phone beeping reminded him that he wasn't alone, All Might had finished his call and was walking back, only stopping to return the two soda bottles back to the recycling before making his way back.
"Good news, young man! The police had already had their containment unit on the way. Someone back at the market had called them so they're only a few blocks away."
Izuku looked at the girl as he spoke, "What's going to happen to her?"
"Hmm..." All Might rubbed his chin in thought. "She will be detained before being charged. She only stole a purse so she will probably be charged for that, but now that I think about it. She didn't seem to be planning the theft, that it was more of a spur of the moment thing when I gave chase..."
"She looks scared."
"Yeah… I have a colleague that will be able to get some answers from her. Now forgive me young man, but I don't think I asked your name."
"It's Izuku Midoriya, sir."
"Well young Midoriya. You did a great thing today. You assisted in the capture of a villain while also showing mercy to them. I'm sure you will have a bright future ahead of yourself."
Izuku brightened, "You think it's possible that someone like me could become a pro-hero?"
All Might's smile faltered, "I'm sorry Young Midoriya, but you said earlier that you quirk-less yes?"
Izuku's mood instantly soured before he nodded.
"I'm sorry my boy, but the truth is without a quirk you would be a hindrance. Pro-heroics is more than capturing criminals. But there is still others paths available to ones like yourself. You could become a police officer or fireman, maybe an EMT worker or even a doctor. There's more to heroics than being in the spotlight."
Izuku's frown just deepened as he listened to All Might rattle off more options. Sure the man was trying to give him advice, good advice he had to admit to himself, but he didn't dream of becoming a cop or a fireman, and while he was smart, Izuku was pretty sure he wasn't cut out to be a doctor. He wanted to be a hero.
"Now Young Midoriya, I can see the detainment vehicle coming up the road, and seeing that you appear to be fine. It would probably be in your best interest to head home or to wherever you had planned to go. Otherwise the police are going to be questioning you for awhile, and I can only cover so much for you."
That surprised Izuku, he would have expected All Might of all people do to everything by the books.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, there's no obvious injury to your person and I would say the villain is more than adequately detained. There's no point keeping you any longer. I'm sure a you have places to be, things to do."
Well the man wasn't wrong. Izuku had planned on getting home and start looking up some of those movies that Miyagi suggested, but it still didn't seem right. Part of him wanted to know what what going to happen to the girl, but All Might was already waving down the police vehicle with one hand while waving him away with the other.
Walking away, he heard the policeman ask All Might what was the situation and the usual questions policeman did, but a gust of wind prevented him from hearing the rest.
Shivering slightly he was reminded that he had left his blazer to cover the girl, and he was sure his mother was going to give him an earful when he got home, but it wasn't right leaving a girl exposed like that. Something his mother would surely agree with.
After a few minutes he was back on one of the main streets that had led to his apartment, thinking about what All Might had said.
The man had a point, it was unheard of a quirk-less pro-hero but he knew of at least one vigilante that was confirmed to be quirk-less, and who knew how many underground heroes that were in the same situation. They weren't exactly known for broadcasting what they could and couldn't do, and while All Might was the current number one, he was still capable being wrong, the soda bottle containment was proof of that…
All Might looked embarrassed as he had explained his original plan of detaining the villain to the police, much to their amusement. How was he to know that soda bottle would've been incapable of containing her even if she could fit. They even explained how people with these type of quirks were usually much stronger than they appeared and that could easily rupture a plastic bottle.
So he tried to ignore the laughter coming from the pair as they loaded the girl into an opaque container before the female police was standing before him, holding Young Midoriya's blazer out to him.
"Care to explain this?" She asked.
"A student passed by after I stopped the villain, and offered it cover her when it became obvious that she was a young woman." All Might pseudo-lied. He wasn't sure how he could explain how a supposedly quirk-less teen had managed to stop a villain that he could not.
"Well, as a woman, it makes me happy to see that there are still gentleman out there that care enough about a woman's modesty that they'd give the clothing off their back, but..." The female officer turned the blazer inside out as she searched for something before finding a tag. "...you should return this to the young man as soon as you can. My little brother lost his and it wasn't cheap to replace. Even under the extenuating circumstances."
All Might just nodded as he accepted the piece of clothing, quickly finding the tag that listed Midoriya's full name and address. He would make sure to return the clothing back to the teen at some point today but he had to made sure the villain was contained. Then he felt it, that odd tickle at the back of his throat. The feeling of his body wanting to unconsciously shift to its proper form…
Both officers paused in their effort of lifting the containment unit into the back of the transport as they heard the sound of someone trying to contain a cough. Turning their heads in perfect unison they looked to where All Might was standing, finding the hero standing there with a closed fist held up against his mouth.
Both parties just stared at each other in silence for a few moments of awkward silence.
"Umm… Excuse me, just had a tickle in my throat." All Might uttered in what he hoped was a believable tone. His time was coming to and end quicker than he would have liked and he could actually see steam starting to emanate from his body… He needed to get somewhere away from prying eyes and soon! "Seeing that you have this covered, I must leave you, for evil doesn't wait for anyone, much less me!"
Both officers just nodded dumbly as they watched the current number one hero wave goodbye before making a mad dash for a manhole cover, ripping the iron lid away before diving into the sewers before a hand quickly reached up from the hole to replace the iron lid.
"Okay..." The male officer drawled as he watched the odd spectacle come to a close, before turning to his partner. "You think there's a reason he chose to go into the sewer instead of just walking down the street like a normal person?"
Steam billowed as Toshinori Yagi held a hand against his mouth, failing to contain the blood that his wracking coughs was forcing from his lungs. He hated that his time as All Might was becoming shorter and shorter with each transformation.
He was down to less than three hours now and losing about five seconds of his powered up form every time he had transformed. Soon the hero known as All Might would be forced to retire. If he could find a successor before his time as a hero ended…
Finding his coughs had begun to subside Toshi tried to get a sense of direction before an idle thought drew his gaze down to the blazer he was still carrying.
'The boy had potential…' The powered down hero thought before hunger pangs racked his form. This was another price he had to pay for his transformations, a hundred kilos of muscle didn't just come from nothing and burned through whatever fat stores he had, which nowadays were pretty much nothing. Leaving him to appear as a walking skeleton.
With the remnant of his stomach growling, Toshi began to retrace his steps to back where he first entered the sewer, the street that he had encountered the girl was full of small businesses and he was positive he could smell meat cooking as he chased the villain. The idea of some barbecue skewers made his mouth water and what little of his stomach growl harder.
That settled it, he would get something to eat and walk to think about his problems and hopefully by the time he was done Toshi would begin the trek to young Midoriya's home.
Izuku just walked on autopilot as he made his way home, all the while thinking just how strange his day had been. School was a typical mess between Katsuki and the knowledge that he had planned to enroll in U.A. On the other hand he did pop the asshole in the mouth, and while wrong he had to admit the act had made him feel better.
Another plus was he had several nice talks between his teacher and the underclassmen he met in the library. Those discussions gave him several things to think about.
Then school ended and he ended up getting attacked by a villain. That was a negative for sure, but the villain was a girl, a very naked girl and he still a teenage male so maybe that was a plus? And he somehow managed to survive the encounter and meet his hero, so another plus, sort of…
Well he did meet All Might which should have been one of the greatest moments of his life, but then the hero had heard his dream and crushed it. Reminding him that once again that his disability would only be a wall, blocking him from accomplishing his dream.
Izuku spat at that thought, turning his head towards the street as his spittle hit the ground, idly noting a large van speeding by that seemed oddly familiar.
Turning back, he continued his walk home various thoughts bouncing around his head, like how he was going to explain his missing blazer to his mother…
Minutes passed as he continued his walk before the sound of screeching tires and the crunching of metal rang from further down the street, there had been an accident!
Izuku felt himself running towards the intersection before finding himself stuck behind a small wall of spectators.
Finding ever way he looked blocked by another body, he reached out and grasped a taller older gentleman's shoulder. "What happened?"
"Some idiot ran a red light and hit a van that was crossing the intersection, and to make it worse for him it was a police van. That boy is going to be in a heap of trouble once they get out of it..."
That surprised Izuku, he would have thought the police would be out of their vehicle in a flash with a situation like this. "What's taking them so long?"
The older man finally looked down at the teen he had been addressing, finally realizing because of the boy's shorter stature he couldn't see anything through this crowd. "It's one of those vans that the police use to transport captured villains. They're probably making sure that the prisoner is secured and back up is on the way before they leave the vehicle."
'That made sense but… wait a minute… a villain transport? Like what came for the slime girl? It couldn't be the same...' A woman's scream rang over the clamor of the gathered people as Izuku forced his way through the crowd as the rear doors to the van opened revealing a familiar form to Izuku.
"None of you are going to take me back!" A voice screamed, audible over the din of the spectators.
It was the girl from earlier, the same one that had attacked him and he realized that she wasn't alone. She had an arm wrapped around a female officer's neck and was dragging the woman out of the van.
"Where are the heroes?" A voice in the crowd said, unknowingly echoing Izuku's own thoughts.
"It hasn't been five minutes, even All Might wouldn't be able to be here you goddamn fool!"
Izuku ignored the argument that was growing behind as he stared at the two women. The policewoman seemed to be okay, aside from the minor injuries that Izuku could clearly see, but the blue woman who was restraining her seemed to be anything but.
She twisted her head back and forth, eyes manic as she stared at the growing crowd, almost as if she was searching for something.
"Get away from me!" She screamed as someone attempted to get closer. "I'm not letting you take me back!"
The way her face looked as she said that made Izuku pause, the girl was terrified, even Izuku could see that. She made erratic movements as she looked around, seemingly paying attention to everything but her hostage. Even her hostage seemed to be oddly calm considering her situation.
It was when a black car had pulled up to the intersection that everything had gone to hell. The blue woman screamed something that Izuku couldn't understand before she suddenly tightened her grip, causing the policewoman to slap at the blue woman's arm.
"Why isn't anyone doing anything?" Izuku asked, as he realized how serious the situation had become.
"Listen kid, we're not heroes. This is a situation that needs to be left to professionals."
Izuku bit back a curse, the person had a point, but it was obvious that something had made the woman terrified to the point that she hadn't even realized that she was strangling the policewoman and no one was going to put a stop to it...
The crowd fell silent they witnessed the greenette slowly step away group and towards the blue girl.
"The hell do you think you're doing boy? Trying to get yourself killed?" A voice hissed from the crowd.
Izuku didn't pause his stride, only sparing a glance back to the crowd, zeroing in the voice, finding the older man who explained the situation starring at him, but Izuku continued undeterred.
If he wasn't willing to help someone in need, he had no business even dreaming of being a hero.
Continuing forward, Izuku approached the pair, making himself appear as non threatening as possible as the blue girl finally noticed his approach.
"Don't come any closer!" The girl screamed as she twisted around to face him.
Izuku slowed his pace as he raised his hands placatingly. "Listen, I don't think you want to hurt anyone right? You're just scared right?"
Izuku held his breath as he watched various emotions cross the young woman's face before he noticed her really looking at him, recognition in her eyes.
"You..." She whispered, unconsciously loosening her hold on the officer, "...You're the boy from earlier… I didn't mean to hurt you. I just needed to get away, before they came and took me back..."
"Listen, you didn't hurt me, you just…" Izuku looked down at himself, "...Made me a little sticky. Nothing a hot shower and washer can't fix…" Izuku said before realizing just what the girl had said. "What do you mean 'take you back'? Is there someone after you?"
"I don't want to go back!" She yelled before she began to mumble. "No more needles, no more shots… I just want to see my family again."
Izuku swallowed heavily as he listened to the girl. Hearing the words she mumbled he realized more and more that this girl was more a victim than a villain. Terrified out of her wits and acting irrational and erratic due to her fear, he just needed to do something, anything…
"Listen, I want to help you, but I can't help you if you don't let me. So lets start with something simple. How about a name? I'll start." Izuku gestured to himself. "My names Izuku Midoriya. Now what's yours?"
"Erubetie." The girl said quietly, before she continued. "But everyone calls me Eru."
"Eru, now that's a pretty name." Izuku said honestly. "Now what happened, Eru? Why is there people after you?"
But before she could answer, a woman's voice interrupted the two.
"Erubetie… Ito?"
Izuku and the girl both looked at the source of the question. Surprised that it was the female officer that Eru was currently restraining.
"You know my name?" The blue girl asked.
"Your friends filed a missing persons report when you didn't show up to class after the party. All surrounding precincts got a copy of your description and last known whereabouts. They even brought the man in you were last seen leaving the bar with, but he was a dead end, said he was drugged and left in some alley."
"And you believed him?" Izuku asked?
"There is a detective that works with us whose quirk allows him to find out if someone is lying or not." The officer stated, seemingly relaxed considering the situation.
'Okay, that's… believable.' Izuku thought to himself, he would have to jot it down in one of his notebooks when he got the chance, but now was not the time.
"Eru..." Izuku said, drawing the girl's attention back to him. "You need to let her go. She isn't going to hurt you, and I'm positive that she isn't going to let anyone take you away. You can trust her, just let her go..."
He breathed a sigh of relief as the blue girl did, stepping forward to help the female officer, only to be stopped as his vision filled with blue.
Three figures stood on a rooftop as they watched the chaos wind down. They had arrived several minutes after the police had arrived, and had already had the situation well under control. So they chose to watch in silence as they listened to a police scanner.
Minutes passed in silence before one of them spoke.
"Is there any reason the three of us are up here doing our best impression of Batman?" A female voice asked.
A pair of sighs answered her question before the figure to her left turned to her.
"Listen rookie, I understand that you're new to this, this being your first day and all, but there is a way to how we work. There is a time and place for the Pros, and let me tell you this is not a situation that needs us. If anything us going down there would only make the situation worse. It would attract the attention of the media, and the last thing they need down there is some nosy reporters sticking their nose where it doesn't belong." Death Arms ground out as Kamui Woods nodded in agreement. "Your ass has already been on the networks enough for today anyway."
Mt. Lady just growled under her breath. It wasn't her fault that the news had kept repeating her introduction… 'I mean sure, I did pose for the cameras, and picked out my outfit design… but that's not the point.'
"Listen, I just want to be sure that kid's alright, right?"
Kamui nodded in understanding, he had heard the police explain the situation. The teen, no Izuku Midoriya, was a civilian, a student no less, had defused a tense hostage situation between a police officer and a villain that turned out to be a missing girl. A naked missing girl who was currently had him in a death grip with one arm while she petted the boys head like a long lost pet with the other.
Now part of him agreed with what Mt. Lady was saying, but then again the female hero had made a mockery of his fight with the villain this morning and he was still a bit miffed about that…
"You just want to pet the kid's head too don't you?" He remarked, eyes widening as he watched the female hero's flushed as Death Arms erupted in laughter.
Mt. Lady just blushed as Kamui had hit the nail on the head. It wasn't her fault, the teen's hair just looked so soft and fluffy and even she could see from where she was standing that it had an impossible springiness to it. She just wanted to know what it felt like…
Death Arms finally got his laughter under control as he looked at the rookie pro before deciding to poke the tiger a bit more. "Who'da thunk it. Newly premiered hero, Mt. Lady's taste in men leans towards the younger side of things..."
Izuku paused from making statements as he watched a flock of pigeons suddenly erupt from a nearby rooftop before he turned back to the detective that was questioning him, all the while trying to ignore the feeling of the girl that was currently clinging to him as the pair sat on together on a nearby bench, but that was hard, he was a teenage male and had a girl clinging to him. A naked one at that, who was currently petting him like it would be the last thing she would ever get to do. Never minded that her fingers running through his hair was oddly relaxing…
"Midoriya… You were saying?"
Izuku turned back to the man in front of him, burying this thoughts for the time being.
The man had introduced himself as Naomasa Tsukauchi, and that he was a detective for the Mustafu police department.
Now Izuku found himself even more the center of attention than he had hoped for when Eru had calmed down enough to begin answering questions.
He listened in silence as the girl recounted everything that happened to her in the past few weeks, from the moment she left the mixer to waking up in the underground lab, even how she spent the last few days in the sewer, till she mentioned that she hadn't meant to attack him. Then several sets of eyes focused on him. He wasn't just a good samaritan passing by, he was more involved in this than they had thought.
So he answered any questions they asked, going into further detail than he probably should have as he recounted his mistake when All Might had gave him several wet wipes, getting several police officers to chuckle at his embarrassment, even the detective whose questions he's been answering till the man snapped his notepad shut.
"That will be all Mr. Midoriya." Detective Naomasa said as he slipped the small notepad he was taking notes into his pocket and slipped away from the teen, leaving Izuku to Erubetie's ministrations.
Izuku just watched the detective walk away till he was out of sight while he tried to ignore the feeling of being petted before he found his attention switching to someone new approaching the pair.
"Miss Ito..."
It was the female officer from earlier. She was walking towards the duo, carrying a small bundle.
"It's time to head to the station. We notified your parents and they will be meeting us there."
Izuku felt the girl nod, but she didn't seem to keen on letting him go even as the officer had revealed that the bundle was actually a blanket, reminding him that it was a naked girl he was currently comforting, causing him to blush slightly as the officer continued to speak in a soft tone.
"Come on Miss Ito, I'm sure your parents are worried sick about of you. You don't want to keep them waiting, do you?"
That seemed to have an effect, as Izuku felt the girl's hand stop its movement through his hair before she finally pulled away entirely. Allowing the officer to wrap her in the blanket, before letting herself be led away to a waiting car, pausing just before the open door to turn back to him as she mouthed 'Thank you' which he reciprocated, before stepping into the car. Leaving Izuku alone with his thoughts for a few moments before he felt more fingers beginning to run through his hair before he heard a giggle.
Looking up, he found the female officer standing in front of him, arm outstretched.
"Thought I'd give it a try after seeing Miss Ito do it." She said with a smirk as she continued, causing the teen to blush. "I can see why she did it now. It's like petting a really soft cat or plush toy."
"It's oddly calming…"The woman withdrew her hand, but not before tracing his jaw lightly before her fell to her side as her posture straightened and her tone turned more professional. "But enough of that. I just wanted to thank you for what you did"
"Now you did a very brave thing, stepping in as you did, and while I'm very grateful you did..."
Izuku grimaced as he felt the woman's hand clasp his shoulder in an ever tightening grip...
"… It was a very reckless thing to do..."
...Before grimacing as he watched the female officer begin to wind herself up to give him a scolding that would have made his mother proud.
"She's really tearing into him isn't she?" The skeletal man noted as he watched the female officer tear into young Midoriya, idly reminding him of his late master.
Naomasa just nodded in agreement as he and Toshinori watched Officer Yuki dress down the teen before turning to face the man next to him, noting the blazer Toshi had tucked under an arm.
"I got half the story from the boy, Toshinori. You going to give me your half so I can finish up my report?" The detective asked as he pulled his notepad from a pocket.
Sure the boy was being truthful when he answered the questions Naomasa had asked, but things weren't adding up. Midoriya was attacked, it was spur of the moment according to Miss Ito, whom he believed wholeheartedly, his quirk proved that. But the boy had managed to come out completely unharmed if not a little messily, as the boy described the aftermath.
Now it was time for Toshinori to fill in the blanks. Like how a quirk less teen had managed to subdue his attacker, unconsciously, and to the point that she lost her form. Yes… Toshi would be doing some explaining…
Izuku just sighed as his apartment came into view. Today had been a long day and it still wasn't finished. Though he had some solace in the fact he would have an empty apartment waiting for him as his mother was currently covering a shift for an ill coworker, so that was one less worry he to think about. He didn't want to have to explain the reason he was missing his blazer, or why he looked like he gone through the spin cycle. Yes, he was quite lucky.
Opening the door to his apartment, he tossed his house keys on the stand near the entrance as he swapped his shoes for a pair of slippers, going through the motions he repeated countless times, before making his way further into the apartment. Pausing as he passed a table that had a cup of instant noodles alongside a note. Picking up the note, he skimmed through it before placing it back on the table. It was just a reminder that his mother would be home in the morning, and that she was sorry for the instant dinner, causing the teen to shake his head slightly. It was a typical response to his mother's antics, she worried way too much and was a quick shot when it came to tears, but he wouldn't give her up for the world.
Chuckling, the teen made his way to the living room, sloughing off his bag on the couch before flopping down next to it, the weight of what had gone down finally taking it's toll.
Izuku was tired, sticky; he was going to need to clean the couch before his mother got home, but he felt a sense of pride growing. Today he had been someones hero, he had helped Eru and Ms. Yuki even if Ms. Yuki chewed him out, and he did it without a quirk. He could be a hero without a quirk, no matter what All Might had said, but first he needed a shower, he had a kind of aroma going on…
Yagi glanced between his phone, the tag in the blazer and the large apartment building that stood in front of him. According to the map app, this was the place. Young Midoriya's home was on the upper floor but how would he approach the boy. That had been the problem. Something he thought about as soon as he left Naomasa after giving him his side of the happenings before he left his long time friend.
Part of him thought about just transforming, but that would just draw more attention to the teen, something he was sure the boy didn't want right now, but could he just show up in his normal state? Maybe claim that he worked for All Might, it wasn't a lie per se, he employed himself at his agency, even paid taxes. So it would be more of an omission of truth than a lie…
"Can I help you sir?" A voice asked.
'Hell, that voice sounds like young Midoriya,' Yagi thought as looked at the source of the voice, finding out why the voice sounded just like the teen, because it was the teen!
He had been so lost thought that he didn't realize that he had climbed several flights of stairs and made it towards the boy's door, going even so far as knocking on it, all without a plan.
"Are you okay sir?"
Crap buckets, what was the plan again? Introduce himself with his real name? Claim he worked for his alter ego?
Looking towards the green haired teen, he said the first thing that came to his mind.
"What are you wearing?"
"What are you wearing?"
Of all things Izuku had expected from the stranger at his door, that question was not one of he had expected.
Fresh from a quick shower Izuku had thrown on a simple outfit, consisting of a simple pair of shorts and a tee, the latter emblazoned with the words 'formal wear' on the front. It wasn't like he had expected company…
He had planned on a quick dinner of instant noodles while he looked up some of the movies Mr. Miyagi had recommended to him before he heard someone knocking on his front door. Said person who made him recoil slightly when he saw that bony visage that seemed to stare through him, before he realized the visitor hadn't noticed him opening the door as he was muttering to himself. And now this guy was making a remark about his clothes?
Suddenly the stranger shook his head before focusing on the teen. "Izuku Midoriya..."
Izuku was instantly on edge, he never met this man in his life, so how did he know his name?
"...I am here on the behalf of All Might, who has given me the task of returning your jacket to you."
Izuku felt the tension fall away as he noticed the man was carrying his blazer, though it didn't answer the question of how he knew his home address…
Sensing distrust from the teen, Yagi quickly spoke up, "Your address is written on the tag inside."
Okay, that was a bit more believable. His mother had the habit of putting their address on every bit of clothing the pair had, much to his embarrassment. So he nervously smiled as he took the blazer from the man, bowing in gratitude, before realizing how rude he was being.
"Sorry Mr..." He never got the stranger's name.
"Yagi, you can call me Mr. Yagi."
"Mr. Yagi, would you like to come in? I could make you some tea as a show of thanks."
The man seemed to grin at the teens suggestion as he followed the boy into the apartment, casually glancing around the interior as the teen led him to the common room before leaving him to put the kettle on. The apartment was nothing too out of the ordinary, it had an efficient layout as was typical of this style of apartment, but there were several touches that made it a home.
He had passed several frames that were filled with photos of a family. There was a green haired child alongside a young woman who shared his hair color, obviously the boy's mother. Several more photos followed, each showing the duo in a later stage of life, time taking its toll each time. The boy a little larger, the mother a little, dare he say plumper, still a beauty nonetheless before the last one showed the teen at what he had assumed was the opening ceremony of his high school.
"My mom took that a couple years ago." Izuku said as he placed a cup of tea before the man before taking a seat himself. "You said that All Might had asked you to deliver my blazer, but if you don't mind me asking. Why? He could have just mailed it or something."
Yagi took a sip before answering. "Indeed he could Young Mid… man." Yagi cursed himself at the unintentional slip, as he watched the teen pull a cup of instant noodles towards himself.
"I apologize for not offering you anything, but I had a really long day as you must know, and was not expecting guests." Izuku said as he snapped apart his chopsticks and stirred his food.
Yagi waved his hand in gesture. "It's very understandable young man. I've heard about what happened from All Might, its not often that someone as young as yourself gets involved in not just one criminal incident but two in the same day."
Izuku tensed, staring at the man who sat across from him. "How do you know about that? There wasn't any heroes there, much less All Might..."
Yagi just waved him off again, "Ah young man, you're not wrong. While there were no heroes present at the start of the incident, doesn't mean some didn't arrive later."
"Are you saying All Might was around while I was trying to diffuse a hostage situation and didn't step in?" Izuku asked with a piercing tone.
Yagi held back a cough as heard the teen's accusation, before quickly cutting in. "No… no young man, All Might had arrived after the police arrived and everything was under control."
"Oh." Instantly the tense atmosphere vanished.
"Though he did mention how well you comforted the girl, as well as get torn into by the female officer for your reckless actions..."
Izuku felt his face flush in embarrassment, but held his silence.
"...Even though they were the right thing to do under the current circumstance. An action from someone with truly heroic intentions. Which in turn brings the reason of my arrival, well..." Yagi paused to clear his throat. "...Well besides making sure your jacket was returned. All Might has told me me to ask you quite an important question..."
Izuku almost fell out of his chair as the man across from him suddenly stood up and pointed a finger at him.
"… How would you like to be a hero!"
Izuku blinked once… twice… three times, his mind trying to comprehend just what this stranger had just said before the the sound from the television had interrupted whatever thoughts he he had.
"Mustafu News here, bringing you fine folks of our fine city a preview of tonight's program with the main feature being about an incident that occurred earlier today."
Two heads turned towards the device at the same time. The teen's stomach dropped as he listened to anchorwoman give a brief description of the Slime Girl incident, not even noticing the displacement of air or the larger shape next to him.
Finally the preview ended, though Izuku was praying to every deity he knew that hopefully this would go beneath his mother's notice, even though he knew deep down that wasn't going to happen. Good things like that just didn't happen to him, with how his life has been to this moment he couldn't help but feel like he was the universe's spittoon.
Then he took notice of his visitor, feeling himself gasp as the gaunt form of Mr. Yagi had been replaced by someone he recognized. Someone who he saw earlier that day. Someone that he had never expected to see again.
"A..ll Might?"
The hero turned to teen, eye brows raising in surprise at the teen's face before he took notice of himself. He had gone into hero form in surprise from the news preview, forgetting that he wasn't exactly alone…
"Well fuck..."
This is just something that had been rolling around in my head for months. Thought it was time to put it down into something more substantial before it went to hell. Updates will hopefully come out a little more often as I hadn't planned to have the opening chapter be as long as it had, but the next few chapters aren't going to be nearly as long as this one was.
And always reviews/comments and suggestions are welcome.
