I gave you guys over a month to watch the ONLY Stan/Koji scene in the show and write something for it. Now you'll feel my wrath. Come on guys, Welcome to Oban practicly screamed "STAN SAVES KOJI! FANGIRLS, GO BERSERK!" Or maybe that's just my gaydar at work.
Three notes:
1. This can be read as them just being friends, but you'll be fooling yourself.
2. This was written for, and dedicated to, Shadowgate31. Because I love you for writing Wedding for me. (you all should go read it when you're done here)
3. Yes, this is short.
Don't own. This is disclaimed now.
"The Whizzing Arrow 3 is ready to roll!" Koji shouted. Suddenly, the panels of the floor glowed at the seams.
The mechanics looked down at it with fright. Koji was standing almost in the center of the circular floor, while Stan was about halfway between that floor and the raised edge where they would stand to watch it depart.
"Come on!" Stan called. They started to run. Koji's wrench fell onto one of the glowing lines. The clang sounded too loud in the silence. Koji turned around and saw it lying there.
"Koji, get out of there! Hurry!" Stan yelled back, having made it to the edge.
Just then, the floor started to break apart, which would allow the Whizzing Arrow to drop free of the bunker to the race course. With Koji still on it. The uneven ground made it hard to balence as he franticly started to run to Stan. He reached out a hand to him just before it gave way completely.
Stan reached out as well, but just a little too late to grab him. Koji fell. Thankfully, though, he grabbed the edge of the ring. He swung his other arm up and held on for dear life.
"Stan! Help me!" He cried, knowing he wouldn't be able to get back up on his own. He was, physically, the weakest member of the crew. His grip weakened quickly. His fingers slipped off.
Stan had heard him and, without a second thought, grabbed onto his arm with both hands. He pulled hard and dragged his partner up. Koji climbed over the edge with some difficulty, but did it quickly. Stan kept pulling a little too long and Koji landed on him. Neither one minded, though.
Koji was just glad to be away from that drop. Stan was glad Koji wasn't in danger anymore.
Remembering that Molly and Jordan were falling in the Whizzing Arrow got Koji right to his feet and chasing after Don Wei, who was already heading to the control room. Stan followed.
---
That night, after the race and their loss, everyone retreated to their rooms. Don Wei, being the race manager, was the only one who got a room of his own. Even Molly's complaints of "I'm a girl! I shouldn't have to share a room with Jordan!" didn't affect it and she did end up sharing with Jordan. Which left Stan and Koji a room to themselves.
Koji walked into their room from their bathroom to find Stan lying on one of the beds. "Stan?"
"I'm awake," He groaned.
"Thanks." He blushed and continued, "You know, for this morning."
"Would've done it for anyone." He mumbled, turning over in his bed.
Koji blinked, feeling a little betrayed by that for some reason. "o-Okay..." He lay down in his bed and closed his eyes. "Good night Stan."
"Night Koji."
---
The next morning, Koji woke up before the sun, or whatever served as sun here, was up. He turned over and saw Stan was already out of bed. He swung his legs over the bed and planted them on the floor. The floor under his right foot felt oddly raised and metallic. He lifted it up, then reached down and grabbed the object. It was a metal wrench with a note tied to it. Curious, he read it to himself.
"Koji,
Here's my spare wrench. Yours is somewhere down on Oban, remember?
-Stan
PS, This I wouldn't do for just anyone."
