Previously, on Trials and Tribulations...
"She experienced a concussion and should be fine but we would like to keep her over night to check up on her and the baby." The doctor told them.
Everything seemed fine until they heard the last bit.
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" Ming asked the question everyone wanted to know.
"The baby...? You didn't know? Jazmine is around 14 weeks pregnant, she's due at the end of June."
Tom turned to his daughter who had a bandage around her head. "It was long overdue and we will discuss that once you are better. We have something else to discuss now... when you were going to tell us you're pregnant?"
Hearing this shocked Jazmine and they she burst out laughing which caused her parents to share a look.
"Pregnant? Daddy, I'm not pregnant?" Jazmine laughed but once she saw the seriousness on her parent's face, the smile dropped from her face. "I'm pregnant?"
"Yes. 14 weeks." Her mother sighed as she sat down in the seat next to the hospital bed.
"Oh my..." She began to tear up and that's when it hit her. The mood swings. The weight gain. She was pregnant. She was 17 and pregnant. She wasn't even 18 yet.
Huey took a deep breath, kind of annoyed about his friends' commentary. He looked at the balloon in the top middle. He knew it was that one.
He aimed the very last star in his hand and let it fly through the air. It burst the balloon and for the first time, the paint that came out wasn't white.
"Ohhh!"
"Woaahhh!"
"Yess!"
"Yesssiirr!"
"I told you!"
"Give me my money baby."
Jazmine jumped up and down in excitement before grabbing onto Huey.
"Huey! Do you see that?!"
He smirked but was in disbelief. "Yeah... I do."
"We're having a boy! You have a son Huey."
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her, not letting the smirk drop from his face. "We're have a son Jazmine." Everyone around them were taking pictures and videos of the happy couple and the paint splatted all over the designed board.
She began to tear up as she was pulled into a group hug with her friends and boyfriend.
"Michael Caesar, attending Morehouse college, studying music."
They were now on the letter D. It was soon her time. Then out of nowhere, she felt a pop and a gushing feeling. Her mouth dropped open and eyes widened as she felt liquid running down her legs, into her shoes and ground accompanied by a sharp pain. "Oh shit." She quickly took off her wet heels and placed them in her hands, there was no way she was going to walk across the stage with wet shoes. She had no time to fully realise her water had just broken.
"You alright?" Her classmate behind her asked.
Jazmine turned and nodded. "Yeah, you just want to step around, the floor here is a bit wet."
Once the girl realised what Jazmine meant, her eyes grew wide but before she could ask if she was alright, Jazmine's name was called.
"Jazmine DuBois, attending University of Maryland to study medicine in the following year."
"Huey Freeman, University of Maryland, studying Law."
"Ming Long-Dou, University of Florida, studying sports."
"Cindy McPhearson, University of Florida, studying sports."
"Hiro Otomo, Morehouse College, studying music."
Jazmine began to feel pressure in her lower region but this time it felt different. "Huey..." She looked over to see him look up from reading one of his many books. "I think it's time..."
His eyes grew wide. "You sure?"
She nodded. "Press the button."
"Come on Mariah, be a real nigga and get that nigga out." Riley, in his own way, encouraged her as he stood behind Royalty, furthers away from the exit place of his nephew.
Jazmine took a quick deep breath and pushed. "AHHHHRRRRRR!" This time, Jazmine reached into her soul to do that push and the midwife was pleased. So much was happening at the moment but all Jazmine felt was heat, sweat and pressure.
As the nurse removed the mirror, Huey slightly leaned to the side to get an actual view of what it looked like down there and he was left speechless, well, thoughtless. All he could think was women are strong as hell!
"A few more pushes and you're done."
Jazmine tightened her grip on both of the hands she was pretty sure would be sore later and squeezed as she pushed her baby out of her. "Uggggghhhhhhh!"
"Ugggghhh!"
"Ahhhhhhhh!"
"Fuccccck!"
"Urrgghhhhh!"
"Ahhhhhh-!"
"He's here!"
Jazmine closed eyes flung open as she looked down on her chest. As soon as he came out, the midwife placed the baby on Jazmine's chest.
She was in disbelief. She did it!
Just as Jazmine and her family were about to be concerned about the silence, the baby let out a cry that was louder than Jazmine's just a second ago, if that was even possible.
"Oh my gosh... my baby... I have my baby." She repeatedly muttered as she looked down at the baby crying in her arms, still covered in his after birth.
Huey looked down at a red faced and sweaty Jazmine and he still had no words. The room was flooded with a baby's cry and he had no idea what to do, he just watched. His son was here. His son was actually here and in his mother's arms. Was he dreaming right now?
"Huey." The midwife called his name, making him snap out of his day dream. "Would you like to cut the cord?" She asked him sweetly as she saw the astonishment running through his features. He slightly nodded and grabbed the medical scissors. "Cut right here." She instructed him and he did just that. "Congratulations, it's a boy!"
"Welcome back to your mommy and daddy." With the help of Huey, Jazmine sat up in the bed as the other two teenagers walked back over to the bed, ready to see their nephew without all the stuff on him. "Here you go." She placed the baby gently in Jazmine's outstretched arms who immediately smiled down at the baby. "I have never heard a baby so quiet before. The other staff members were concerned but he is completely healthy, weighing at 8 pound 13 ounces and at the length of 17.8 inches. Born at 9:03pm."
"Royalty, Riley. Meet your new nephew, Malcom Josiah Freeman."
"Ahhhhhhh!"
"Hm, Hu..."
"Ahhhhh!"
"Huey... bab..."
"Ahhhhh!"
"Fine! Fine! I'm up."
It has been one week since Jazmine gave birth and they were getting the new parents feeling. The feeling that they're doing everything wrong.
Jazmine opened her eyes to see Huey pacing the room trying to calm Malcom down but it didn't seem to work.
"I think he's hungry. I was hoping he wasn't because you didn't pump today so there's nothing in the refrigerator, I know you're tire-"
"Hand him over." Jazmine held her arms out with half open eyes.
He walked over and placed the crying baby in his arms. His pale face red from the crying.
"It's ok, your food is here." Jazmine whispered as she lifted her top to expose herself for him to feed. He happily latched on and the room was now quiet.
Huey sighed and went to flop back in the bed when Jazmine stopped him. "Get me the pump. I need to pump. I need the pump." Huey stopped his journey towards his comfortable bed to get what she requested. After helping her attach it to the other breast, he finally laid back down in the bed.
"It's been 1 week."
"1 week of a lot of crying."
"And changing."
"And feeding."
The slowly turned their heads to each other and couldn't help but tiredly laugh. "We're so stupid." Jazmine rubbed her forehead. "How can this boy eat so much?"
"I have no clue."
"He's going to be massive at his next check-up."
Huey leaned over and rubbed his ginger curls. "That is true."
"I hope our other children, in the far, far future, don't come out as big as he did. He was enough. I don't think my vagina can do that again or something bigger." Jazmine looked down at Huey. "As a matter of fact, you can't touch me for 5 years, at least!"
He sat up, looking at her confused. "What did I do?"
"What di- what did you do? You got me pregnant that's what you did! And no- now, oh noooo." Against her will, Jazmine began to cry, something she's been doing every day since she left the hospital. "I'm sorry, pay me no mind, I'm just tired."
Huey gave her a kiss on her cheek, some of the salty tears touching his lips. "I told you to stop apologising."
"But I don't know why I keep crying!"
"You want me to call your mother?" He offered.
She shook her head. "No, it's 3am. I don't want to bother her with my problems in these hours of the night."
"Jazmine-" He went to touch her but she flinched away.
"I'm fine. I tell you this all the time." She whipped her tears away.
Huey sighed and leaned his head against his head board as he watched his girlfriend and son bond over feeding. The flinching was something new. It started yesterday. Whenever he went to touch her, she didn't like it. She would move away. It was weird because she loved whenever he would touch her, in the non-sexual way. He wasn't big on affection before but with Jazmine, he enjoyed it. It wasn't just for her now, it was for him too. Now, she didn't want to be touched and was crying constantly. He needed to find out what was wrong with her before the problem got worse. He had heard of postpartum depression but he didn't think it was that. Either way, he was going to find out what was wrong with her before it got worse.
He felt useless when Malcom would cry when he was hungry and didn't want the bottle. He had to go and get Jazmine and he didn't want to. He wanted to spend as much time with Malcom as he could now before he started work and college. He managed to get job in the same law firm as Tom so not only did it go with his degree but he would have familiar faces there. He was given a month before he started to spend time at home then after, he was going to be put to work. It wasn't going to be easy. They were going to try and push Huey but he was ready. He needed the job. He wanted to provide for Jazmine and Malcom. The pay was good at least but he knew it was going to consume him. He wished it could be different but sadly it was going to happen.
"Huey, can you burp him please? I'm sore."
He snapped out of his daydreaming to see Jazmine holding out Malcom for him to take. He nodded and held his son. Making sure his neck was supported, he began to rub and tap his back.
Jazmine climbed out the bed and cleaned herself up. She managed to fill one bottle up and was ready to see if she could do another. "Who would've thought I would be spending my summer fresh out of high school with a breast pump? Not me that's for sure. We were supposed to be going wild before college you know. Packing, figuring out what adulthood was going to be like. This wasn't the type of adulthood I was thinking of. And now, I am fat." She ended. She lifted up the t-shirt that used to be Huey's to look at her post birth stomach. It was obvious that she was pregnant and there were a few stretch marks but she knew how to get rid of them. It was the stomach she had a problem with.
"It hasn't even been over a week of you giving birth, your body just needs time."
"But I don't want to be that fat teen mom." Jazmine began to cry in front of the mirror.
Huey sighed and got out the bed, walking over with Malcom in his arms who seemed to be drifting back to sleep. "Don't do that to yourself."
"I can't help it."
"You don't need to worry about that now. Get some rest, I'll put Malcom back to sleep."
She whipped her tears and nodded. "Ok." She didn't need to be told twice. After detaching the pump from herself she climbed into the bed and within seconds, she was asleep.
Huey looked at the baby in his arms. 'You're really putting us to work aren't you?' He thought. He sighed and laid on his back, placing Malcom on his bare chest. He seemed to enjoy their skin to skin moments as it calmed him down so he hoped it worked now.
Later on in the day, Jazmine was taking a much needed shower while Huey and Riley were in the kitchen.
"Can you take his milk out for me?" Huey requested.
Riley looked at him as if he was crazy. "What? You want me to touch her titty milk? Hell nah nigga!"
"You're not actually touching the milk, you're touching the bottle you idiot."
"I ain't touching it."
"So you're going to let your nephew starve?"
Riley kissed his teeth and got the bottle for Huey. "Why you gotta say that shit?"
"No swearing around him." Huey lectured him. He was trying to warm the bottle up since Malcom was due a feed soon.
"Nigga he won't understand. Ain't that right nephew?!" He went over to the baby seat Malcom was lying in and gave him a fist bump. "Yessirrr dap it up, dap it up!"
Huey walked back over and slapped Riley on the back of his head. "Don't you have anything better to do than annoy me and my son?"
He rubbed his head as he sat across the table from Huey. "You didn't have to do a nigga like that... and no, I don't, at least not until a little later." Huey could see Riley wanted to say more so he nodded to signal him to continue. "Royalty just found out that instead of the last month of summer, she's going in three days back to Jamaica. She's going to be gone the whole summer."
"And your problem is?"
Riley's eyes grew wide. "My prob- my problem is nigga, my girl is going to be gone the whole summer. Who the fuck am I going to chill with? She hasn't been gone this long from me before."
"I'm sure you can last without her for a couple of weeks." Huey told him with an eye roll. Riley's problems didn't size up to his problems.
"No! I can't and the way I see her packing, she seems to be going for longer."
"What do you mean by that?" Huey asked with a raised eyebrow. He hasn't seen his brother this tense in a long time.
"She wants me to help her to do shopping. She's sending a whole bunch of stuff that's not in her suitcase... what if she doesn't come back? What if her parents decide to keep her there?"
Huey's eyes slightly widened. "Riley, you need to relax. I doubt that will happen."
"You don't know that."
"And neither do you."
The two were having a stare off until Malcom broke it off with his crying.
"That shit was turning gay anyway." Riley stood from his seat. "Mariah's ass better be out that bathroom so I can use it."
Just then, Jazmine walked around the corner, her hair wet and another oversized t-shirt on with some shorts. "Yes I am out the bathroom Riley."
"Good and I better not find not one hair in there either."
"I clean up after myself which is more than I can say about you."
The two childishly stuck their tongue out at each other before Riley disappeared up the stairs.
"I'm about to feed him now." Huey informed her.
She walked over to where Malcom was placed and gave him a couple of kisses. "I feel like all we have been doing is feed you." Malcom's blue eyes stared up at his mother who was trying to not get her wet hair on his face. "His eyes are crazy blue. You think it's going to change?"
"Possibly." Huey shrugged. He had checked the bottle and it was warm enough for Malcom to drink so he went and retrieved the baby.
"Then we have to document his blue eyes otherwise he won't believe us when we tell him, like how I don't believe my mother. Smile." Jazmine pulled out her phone and began to record the father and son. Seeing Huey and Malcom was a huge turn on for her. She has never seen him interact with children let alone babies but she expected him to be cold however, he shocked her. He seems to be pretty good at it so far. "You so cute, yes you are." She gave him more kisses before walking back to the items she brought down with her which Huey just noticed. "I managed to fill 3 bags today already. Amazing right? I can freeze these for when he needs them."
Huey looked at the smiling Jazmine and fought against what he wanted to bring up. She was smiling, seemed better, he didn't want to ruin her mood.
"Just say it Huey. There's no point in trying to hold it back." She told him. "Spit it out." She walked across the kitchen and grabbed an apple to eat.
"Nothing."
"Nothing? You're lying."
"I am not."
"But you are."
"I-"
"-am lying to my girlfriends face." She raised an eyebrow at him. "Tell me Huey."
He took a deep breath. "Fine." He placed the bottle down on the table once he saw Malcom was finished and began to burp him. "You need to speak to someone, a doctor or your mother, just someone. I'm... concerned."
She looked at him confused. "Concerned? Why are you concerned? I am fine and healthy."
"Are you sure?" He asked, causing her to cross her arms across her chest.
"Why are you picking a fight with me Huey?"
He looked at her surprised, she has never said that to him before. "Picking a fight? This isn't picking a fight with you Jazmine, this is me showing my concern for my girlfriend that just gave birth a week ago. I researched about your symptoms-"
"Symptoms?!" She repeated in disbelief.
"Yes symptoms." He continued. "You have been crying constantly and randomly, you're tired and just recently you've been flinching every time I try and touch you."
"Maybe I just don't want to be touched." She tried to argue.
"Which is understandable but I know you Jazmine. You're the only person I know in the world that will allow a stranger to hug you because you enjoy hugging that much." Malcom had finally burped and threw up all over Huey so he had to stop talking to clean themselves up. He could see the tears in Jazmine's emerald green eyes as she took in everything Huey was saying. "As I was saying..." Huey took a deep breath once Malcom settled back into his seat. "It's called Baby Blue's." He watched her roll her eyes which caused the tears to drop from her eyes. "Your body is going through crazy changes right now, hormones flying everywhere and I know you're in pain from the bleeding. You try and hide it but I see you taking pain killers. It says the Baby Blue's will go within the next week or so but if it goes longer it can lead to postpartum depression."
"Oh my gosh Huey! Why you putting that scary shit in my head?!"
"Listen to me Jazmine." Huey felt that he had to keep saying her name to get her to listen to him the way he needed her to. She was about to walk out the room when she stopped at him saying her name. "You think I'm doing this shit for myself? No. I'm doing this for you."
"You make it sound scary, I-"
"-are not alone." He finished for her, doing what she did to him earlier. "Promise me, if you need to talk to someone, you will talk to someone. Cindy, Ming, Royalty, your mom, me, someone."
She blew out a breath. She watched him reach forward for her and as much as she didn't want to, she flinched again. That's when she realised what he was talking about. He was really paying attention to her. How did she end up so lucky to have a boyfriend like Huey? "Ok... promise." He nodded, satisfied that he somehow managed to get through to her. "I'm- I'm going to go back to bed." She slowly walked backwards out the room.
"You want Malcom with you?"
She shook her head. "No, you- you keep him. Uh- yeah." With that, she turned around and walked back to the room, trying her best to hold back the tears to spill.
Huey sighed and looked down at his son. He wasn't sure he was doing the right thing but he hoped he was. There wasn't anyone he could personally turn to which was why he wanted to make sure Jazmine did. He didn't want her to feel as if she was alone. It has only been a week since the birth, they really haven't done nothing yet.
It was only a week.
'Fuck...'
Welcome to 'Life isn't easy'! I hope you are ready for the journey Jazmine and Huey are going to go on with baby Malcom now around.
This is the sequel of Trial and Tribulations, however you don't necessarily need to read that. You can start from here if you wish. If you're confused about anything, you can always go back and read the other story or you can just ask. I like interacting with readers.
This chapter is short because it is the preview, I didn't want to write too much, just more of a recap and an idea of what is going to come. I appreciate any reviews/thoughts you have on this so far. Hopefully you stick around.
Until next time
