Authors notes
It's fun writing Dwayne and Noah stuff, I enjoy the duo, glad you're enjoying it too Gem. Comedy is a bit difficult but I'm glad you're having fun with it!
Well, I guess a good hint is the name of the fic itself Aztec regarding Noah's powers. At least the style I'm going for. Other's powers won't be the same though!
Thank you again for the reviews!
TDZ Chapter 4
The duo walked through the forest as they ate their newly acquired apples. Some are also stuffed in their pockets.
"Urff… I'm so full, I never knew I'd love an apple so much in my life. Though I could use a steak." Dwayne said smiling as he rubbed his belly a little while he held a half-eaten apple.
"I doubt we'll see a tree growing steaks, Dwayne," Noah stated deadpan.
"A man can dream Noah. A man can dream… I could just imagine it's tender juiciness... " he closed his eyes and drooled a little.
Noah just blinked. "Right. Anyway, we really need to find some clue of civilisation like footsteps or something."
"Oh, a deer!"
"A deer? I don't think we wo-"
"No no look over there" Dwayne pointed in the distance and saw a deer with antlers that grew leaves on it.
Noah rubbed his eyes and looked again, the deer still in his sight. "I think we've been out here too long."
"I'm going to catch it!" Dwayne shouted before he started to pace towards the deer.
"What are you…" Noah asked as he trailed behind.
The deer saw the duo approach and then proceeded to dash away.
"Let's go follow!" Dwayne yelled as his pace got faster.
"W-why are we following a deer?" Noah grumbled.
"I saw it on a documentary once, animals will lead us to civilisation."
"That's… W-what d-documentaries do you even watch?" Noah's voice started breaking a little as he ran out of breath.
"All of themmm!" Dwayne continued at his normal pace.
Noah just completely slowed down to a walk and started breathing heavily.
I really need to work out… This is ridiculous… Even a guy twice my age can outpace me…
Dwayne finally came to a stop as he noticed Noah wasn't trailing behind anymore. "My boy! Where'd you go?"
"I'm…. back… here…" he said from a distance.
"Oh, well you got this Noah! I can still see the dear here. It's currently drinking from some river" Dwayne smiled.
"A….. river?" Noah perked up a bit.
"Yeah, quite a bit one too" he started walking towards it.
Noah mustered the strength to keep moving. He followed Dwayne's path until he saw Dwayne cupping his hands and drinking the water.
"Wait where did the deer go?" Noah blinked.
"Oh, it ran off as soon as it saw me, crazy we found a river huh?" He smiled.
"Indeed, I'm glad" he walked over and had a sip of the water.
"I thought the apples were good but this water, I love it, I never knew I wanted it so much till today" He stretched and yawned. "Though a coffee would also be nice right now."
"Oh, I'm sure we will find the coffee lake nearby" Noah frowned. "We should probably use this river to guide us."
"Guide us how?" Dwayne tilted his head a bit.
"Well, if we follow the flow eventually we should be able to reach the ocean if we are lucky we may find civilisation or at least a boat out there which could spot us."
"Wooow… you're really smart you know that little man?" Dwayne grinned.
"I try." Noah looked at him with a deadpan expression. "We should get going anyway."
"Can't we rest for a bit?" Dwayne groaned a little.
"Sadly no. We'll rest once it gets dark ok?"
Dwayne sighed a little but then gave a smile. "Alrighty then, you lead."
Noah nodded and set forth, following the flow of the river.
Hmm… something seems off…
They walked for a good hour or so. Noah started to get a little exhausted while Dwayne whistled a tune.
Noah frowned a little as he stepped.
"Hey, Dwayne?"
He stopped whistling. "Oh, something wrong? Is my whistling bothering you?"
"Oh, no. I was actually going to ask you that"
"Whether something's wrong?" Dwayne seemed perplexed.
"Yeah"
"Why would something be wrong? I mean this isn't the best situation currently but I'm doing pretty fine" he smiled again.
Noah sighed a little. "Well, when we first discovered this river, when I decided we continue you didn't seem yourself for a second."
"Oh, well. I guess I'm just a little homesick. As much as I enjoy the adventure, I do miss being able to wake up to seeing my wife and having Junior's company downstairs."He looked down a bit before he perked up "But don't worry about me though little man, I'll be fine." He then proceeded to smile.
"I don't know how you stay positive. Feels like we would die any second."
"When you have lived as long as I have, you tend to enjoy the little things. Like making new and closer friends. Time is short you know?"
"Why are you weirdly deep now Dwayne?" Noah raised an eyebrow.
"I have that father wisdom. Ooo maybe my superpower is being a wise old man eventually" He smiled and clapped his hands.
"Right." Noah rolled his eyes.
They continued along with the flow of the river. As they walked Noah saw in the distance a brown thing, too small to be able to be identified. He stopped in his track then before Dwayne could react, he bumped into him.
"Oh! Sorry, why did you stop?" He stepped back.
"Gh, do you see that brown thing?" He blinked and squinted his eyes.
"Oh?" Dwayne looked ahead "Uh, kinda? Sorry boy my eyesight isn't what it used to be"
"Well let's keep going, might be important" he started his trek again as Dwayne trailed behind.
Minutes go by and the brown thing starts to form an actual image, Noah widened his eyes.
"It's a bridge!" He shouted.
"Oo a bridge! Uh, why is there a bridge in the middle of the forest?" Dwayne tilted his head as they walked.
"Don't you see? If there's a bridge here, that means people must go by often. Civilisation must be nearby" Noah looked eagerly at the bridge as his pace started going faster.
"Don't forget about me now!" Dwayne chased after.
The bridge looked a bit old and shabby however it was still intact. It was a bridge which connected one end of the river with the other with wooden planks and ropes keeping it together. Next to the bridge is a signpost pointing towards the north with writing on it.
The duo got to the bridge. Noah stared at the sign.
Hm, well at least it has Latin characters. So most of Asia is out of the question.
"Aen...dri...kard" Noah tilted his head.
"Ooo so what country is that?" He perked up curious.
"I have no idea. Just where are we…" He frowned and looked at the text below. "One… one hundred miles!?"
"Ah I'm glad they use miles here, I was afraid we would end up trying to figure out kilometres" Dwayne smirked.
"Right… well looks like we got quite the trek on us, should be there in like maybe 3 to 4 days." he looked up at the sky. "Well, the sun's going to go down soonish so we should keep going and find camp I guess."
Dwyane nodded. "Alrighty, let's go then. I sure hope whatever this Aen.. uh Aendrikard place is has some steak."
Noah let out a little air in a bit of laughter. "Maybe. Guess we'll see." He proceeded to walk across the bridge.
Dwayne followed. "Well, we at least have a goal now. Right?"
"I guess we do. We might be able to find a phone there and call up our homes."
"Ooo I can't wait!" Dwayne jumped a little.
"You have way too much energy for a middle-aged man" Noah frowned.
"Well, you have too little energy for a young adult" Dwayne chuckled.
"Fair." He sighed and kept going forward.
Time passed during their trek, they continue to follow the now rocky path.
Noah looked at the sky and saw the sun setting. "Well looks like it's time to make camp."
Dwayne suddenly dashed past Noah.
"! where are you going?"
"To get firewood of course!" he replied as his voice started getting quieter from distance.
"Uh.. right." He blinked and then proceeded to look for a spot near the path.
If anyone decides to come by they should be able to see us easily.
He found an open area by a few bushes, he sat down and relaxed his legs. He then looked at his hands.
I've been walking so much I kinda forgot about what happened back there… Just what exactly was that.
He wiggled them a little.
Whatever that was, I feel it may be useful if I knew some way of bringing that power back. That intern is still out there and they could find us again.
He blinked and focused as he tried to tap into anything inside of him.
Nothing.
I know it's in there. It was triggered last time when Dwayne was in trouble. Maybe I just need to recreate that, or at least have someone I know in danger again…
He frowned.
I couldn't do that to him. Guess we will have to see for now. I'm sure it's still in here, ever since it happened I just feel… different.
I have a feeling whatever this is, it is connected to what happened on that island.
Is this still Chris' doing though… this is way out of even his league now…
"Hey!"
Noah looked up.
"Hey, Noah got the firewood" Dwayne grinned while holding two sticks on fire.
Noah widened his eyed. "H-how do you have two sticks on fire?"
"Oh, I'm very good at fire-making. It may even be my superpower, or even better, dad power." He posed making two phone gestures with his hands.
Noah sweatdropped.
"Oh, you don't have a spot for the fire?" Dwayne tilted his head.
"Sorry I was too busy thinking." Noah blinked and grabbed a few bits of leaves for now and placed them down.
"Oh about wha- ow!" his fingers got burnt a bit and he dropped the sticks into the leaf pile. A fire blazed in the area.
He put his finger in his own mouth as he tended the pain. "Owww a-anghgway wwgwhatt w-wwoere y-ywwouu thsaaiinking a-wgbbout"
"Oh, Dwayne. It's like having an older less flatulent Owen." He shook his head before relaxing down by the fire. "Still got an apple?"
Dwayne nodded and used his other hand to throw an apple at him.
"You have very deep pockets huh…" He bit into the apple before looking up to the sky.
Dwayne then sat down by him. He finally had his fingers out. "It's a beautiful sky huh? Looks like we can see the stars from here."
Noah frowned to himself as he stared at the sky, he lightly started shaking a little.
"Hm? Something wrong?"
Noah kept staring.
"Noah?" Dwayne shook him lightly.
He still kept staring.
"Noah!" He shook harder.
Noah snapped out of it. "Gh! Oh huh?" He looked at Dwayne.
"What was that about?" Dwayne frowned a little. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine, was just in deep thought." he sat there a little stiff.
"Hm.. ok but just know I'm here to talk if you want to." He smiled reassuringly.
Noah nodded. "Thank you." He then looked back at the sky and sighed lightly.
This doesn't feel right at all.
The…. the constellation. That isn't our one.
