Chapter 453.
"The McCann tryouts."
(January 19. Royal Woods High School.)
The bell has rung, and it means classes are done for the day and now Lynn Loud Junior walks down the halls and is a bit stressed out. She has been through a lot, but now she has to deal with school with the new girl being there.
Then she sees her sister's Luna, Luan and Leni. The older loud girls see Lynn and her unsettlin expression and they walk towards her. "Hey sis, you doing okay?" asked Luna.
Lynn sighs. "No, no I am not, Lunes. You girls wanna know why? Because that new girl from the other day was in my class and I had to deal with her for the whole ding dang day and she has no clue what has happened from the last McCann here in town, and she has no clue that everyone are giving her the stink eye."
"Huh, so that's what Benny has been telling me" said Luan. "He said some girl is the big talk of the school, and he has no clue why."
Leni goes over to Lynn. "Hey now, don't let that get to ya LJ. I know things seem a bit almost bad to the worse, but don't let it get to you. Chances Annabelle might not be so bad."
"You know her that well?" asked Luna.
Then Sam arrives. "Yeah, because I doubt she's nice. She might be hiding some good personality to chum up to us and then do trouble, might I remind you the McCann who nearly killed us during the tour last year?"
They all recall that one, a bad memory of the summer for Lincoln, Luna, Sam, Jordan, Tabby, Sully, Mazzy and Chunk to go on tour with Mick Swagger, only to end up getting stalked by some creepy fan out for revenge who turns out to be a McCann and nearly killed Lincoln.
"Sam's right" replied Luna. "Because of that McCann we had to face, the last name McCann now sounds like a bad apple, like the last name Hitler, or the last name Trump."
"She's not wrong" said Luan. "I mean, I still don't understand why she's here. She might be up to something and we have to be ready for her to come."
Leni can see that this is bothering everyone. "Guys, let's not jump to conclusions, okay? Just ease it up and…." They then see the sports sister is walking away. "Lynn, where are you going?"
"Sorry girls, but I need to help Margo look for some new recruits for this year and the upcoming soccer gamer for the High School. See you around" said Lynn.
They can tell that what happened the other day was a confusing and troubling moment for her, and not because she nearly got beaten by Hank and Hawk, but because she got help from someone who they did not think would bare the last name of an enemy to the loud last name.
"LJ will be fine dudes, we should get going" said Luna.
They all begin to walk down the halls and then out the school, they then see the girl Annabelle C. McCann checking on her bike and then securing it with the chain and then she grabs her bag and goes back to the school.
They just watch her walk by and then look to each other. "Her face didn't seem to spell or look like trouble" said Luan. Then Mr. Coconuts comes out of her bag. "She didn't even look like a stumpy face either!"
"We still have to be cautious, we don't know what she might be up to" said Sam.
"I'm gonna go and pick up Lincoln and Jordan, hopefully they can help handle this issue before it turns into a major crisis." Luna goes to her car and she drives off to the Middle School.
Sam also goes back to her car and Luan meets up with Benny and Ruby. Leni has work to go to and she heads to her car, but she couldn't help but think about that new girl. 'Annabelle is not a bad person, I know it.' She then drives away from the school and is off to the Royal Woods Mall.
(High School Soccer field.)
At the soccer field of the school, Lynn arrives and she sees a whole lot of recruits and all of them look ready to show the new Soccer ball captains what they can do.
Lynn sees Margo and the rest of their friends all checking on the names of each of the new recruits. "Hey girls, you all ready for this?"
"We sure are" said Lainey. "We can see what this guys can do and then see if they're truly meant to be on the team."
Paula also arrives, and she doesn't have her cast anymore! "We have the names of who might join and who won't. So, ready to get it on, LJ."
"Great!" Lynn then looks around. "Where the heck are the others?"
Margo then tells her. "Nadia and Maddie accidently flaked out on the whole project and so they have to try and finish their book reports before this Friday. It's just gonna be us to test these newbies."
Lynn is shocked. "Huh, okay then. Well, we should get started." She then blows her whistle. "Fall in!"
They all fall in line and stand fast. "Alright so listen up. The coach is too busy with something at the gym, which involved someone who broke a couple of windows. Seriously, the football crew have to be careful."
Margo then steps up. "The coach is also out, due to the same thing. Football to the face."
"So, we're gonna be training you guys and doing some practice runs until the coach is back on her feet and we also might need the others who have yet to join us" said Paula. "So, we're going to see what you guys can do and who will make the soccer cut!"
"So, are you maggots ready to face the trials?!" said Lainey with such military instinct and this makes the others look to her confused. "Oh. Sorry guys, my grandpa came to visit and he's a war veteran."
"Okay, well now that sergeant here is calmed down, now we can….."
"Wait, I'm here! I'm here!" They all see the other girl who is late and this makes Lynn wide eyed. "Sorry for being late, my foot got caught in that small hole over by the side of the school."
Margo sighs in annoyance. "I thought the groundskeeper was gonna fix that one?"
"Well, glad you made it" said Paula. She then checks the name. "Welcome to the try outs, McCann." She then stops and Margo and Lainey look to her. "Wait, McCann?!"
The girl steps up. "My name is Annabelle C. McCann and I'm new here, and we moved from Denver, Colorado and yes I was also part of a soccer team. Nice to meet you all and I am ready to try out for the team."
The four girls then walk back and then Margo pulls the rest of her team. "Excuse us a bit." They then rally to the other side of the field and do a football huddle.
"What the heck just happened?! Did I just read what I think I just read?" asked Paula.
"Her last name, its McCann, just like Chandler kid who caused so much trouble!" said Lainey.
"What? Just….. I don't even know how to think this through" said Margo.
"Yeah, I met her and she saved my butt from Hank and Hawk and my sister Leni said she might not be so bad, but I have my doubts" said Lynn.
They all were shocked to hear this. "So, what the heck do we do now?" asked Lainey. "I mean, we can't just tell her she can't be part of the team because of her last name. That would be mean and make her into a social outcast."
"She's right and we're not mean, we should see what she can do" said Margo. They then look towards Lynn. "What do you think, LJ?"
Lynn sighs. A part of her thinks this is bad, since this girl is the last name that is known and kinda hated for some time, but she doesn't seem bad and recalls what Leni said about her. "We should give her a shot guys, she might not be all bad."
They all look to each other and nod. "Whatever works, Lynn" said Paula.
They then break from the huddle and go over to the team. "Alright, so welcome to the tryouts, Annabelle. You ready for this, girl?" asked Lainey.
Annabelle nods and salutes. "I'll do my best, sir." they all look to her confused. "Sorry, my dad and I sometimes like to watch awesome and epic war movies and they kinda get to me."
"Okay then, take it easy they're private" said Paula. "Let's get these tryouts started!" She blows her whistle and let the tryouts begin, maggots!
(Training Montage.)
The rookies all try their best to pass through the path of tires, some of them fail and some try their hardest, but Annabelle is so determined that she aces it with such ease and even does it backwards, now that does impress the team.
They test they're speed while also passing by the caution cones in the path, and most make it in good time, but Annabelle is fast and she manages to break the record and tie it close to when Lynn tried out during Middle School.
They then see if they can be strong as goalies and a few of them miss their marks and end up failing, but Annabelle manages to grab all the soccer balls and prevent the machine from scoring.
Next is trying to hit it into the goal and some of them make the cut and ace it quite well, but when Annabelle does it, she's like another version of Lynn. Same speed and determination and she aces it and the ball goes into the goal and passes by Lainey who tried to stop the ball.
(End montage.)
Lynn, Margo, Paula and Lainey then discuss this and then they look to the rookies who are all taking a break and interacting, but Annabelle doesn't and she just sits by herself and looks to the sky.
They soon go to the rookies. "Alright guys, we made the choice and here are the names to partake with the team" said Paula. She then reads the names. "We have: Rebecca, Theresa, Audrey, Cassidy, Tori, Heather, Danica, Zoey and last but not least, Annabelle."
"Congratulations girls, welcome to the Royal Woods High School Soccer Team, sorry for the ones who didn't make it, but you guys did quite well" said Margo.
They then disperse the ones who made it gather for a meeting with the team members. "Alright girls, tomorrow I want you all here after first period and then after lunch. We have to begin training if we're to win for next month against Hazeltucky, got it?" said Lynn.
"Yes, ma'am!"
Lynn nods. "Dismissed!" She then chuckles and looks to Lainey. "All those words of military school and junk from you is starting to rub onto me."
Lainey chuckles. "Sorry about that."
They then see Annabelle walking to her bag. "Annabelle." The girl turns around and sees them walk towards her. "Annabelle McCann, we wanna talk to you about something, important" said Margo.
"Oh, what for?" asked Annabelle. She was kinda confused and also kinda worried. "What's going on?"
They didn't know how to break it down, so Paula speaks for them. "Well, it involves your last name."
This makes Annabelle look upset. "Oh, I… I see. I really didn't think anyone would've noticed or even bother to ask what my last name was. Sorry."
Lynn then sees how upset she is. 'She's not like Chandler.'
Anabelle then grabs her bag. "Sorry, guys. I just wanted to fit in, I know the last name is bad due to my idiot former cousin who made it a bad last name, I should go."
"No, wait!" She turns around and looks to Lynn. "No, don't. You made the team and we won't hold it against you. I can see that you're nothing like that idiot former cousin of yours. You're not like Chandler."
Paula, Margo and Lainey can also see this. "She has a point. You were one awesome start-up to the team and we could still use someone like you on the spot for when the game begins" said Margo.
"We'll speak to the others that you're not bad" said Lainey.
"If Lynn sees you're not a bad McCann, then we know you're not bad too" said Paula. "But, there is one major issue though."
Annabelle then knows what she means and is upset about it and she looks towards Lynn. "Yeah, I know. The rest of the family, your little brother and all he had to do to fight off my stupid former cousin. Lynn, I am so, so sorry for…"
Lynn places a hand onto her shoulder. "No, don't. What he did was not your fault, Chandler did it to himself and tried to make the name better, but made it worse. You and your parents had nothing to do with his mean and evil actions. I trust you, and I think I have an idea."
"After school tomorrow, ride with me to Lynn's Table, and we can talk about this with the others. How's that?"
Annabelle smiles. "Yeah, that sounds like an awesome idea! Thanks."
Lynn nods. "No problem, now run on home Annie and tell your parents you made the tryouts. You got a big day of practice tomorrow and we will shape you and the other rookies for the big game next month."
Annabelle nods and she races off back to her bike, while also blushing. 'She touched me! She touched me and she wants me to meet her family. Wait, what have I done?! What's gonna happen?! What if they don't like me?! What the heck is happening?!' She had a lot to think about.
Margo, Paula and Lainey stand next to Lynn. "What was nice of you to do for her, Lynn." asked Lainey.
"She sure is one awesome gal to have on the team" said Margo. "But are you sure the plan tomorrow with your family meeting her will work?"
Lynn smirks. "To be honest, I don't really know. Let's hope it does, but I do know one thing and that one thing is that Lincoln and Jordan will be understanding towards her and hear her out, they did so with the others who were once rich and mean and Annabelle is a good girl, she never did anything wrong."
Now all they have to do is wait for tomorrow. Lynn needs to find some way to get the family together, all of them.
