Seth watched from the mats as Dean worked with CJ on the other side of the room. Olivia was sitting up against him and chewing on her stuffed monkey toy, not a care in the world as her father pushed her mother to her limits. From where he sat he could see her legs wobble slightly, but Dean held the bar up as he squatted in time with her in an attempt to help her through her last set.
Seth was proud when she let herself fall to the floor, but concerned when she brought her right knee up to her chest. That was the surgically repaired knee, the one that he constantly worried about now that she was wrestling again. She never finished rehab when she moved to Iowa to be with him. Neither of them felt the need to because neither thought that she'd be wrestling again.
"Stay put, sweetheart. I'll be right back." Seth whispered to the infant, guiding her to lay down on her stomach so that she wouldn't fall over without him holding her up. He then made his way to Dean and CJ, who was now on her feet and being held up by Dean while assuring him that she was fine. Seth moved to her other side and knelt down, gently holding her knee and looking for what it looked like when she had tweaked it the year before. It didn't look nearly as bad as it did the year before, but she'd have to be careful.
"What's the prognosis, Doctor Rollins?" CJ asked bitterly, leaning into Dean as she tried not to shut her eyes tight in pain.
"Doesnt look as bad as it did last year, but I think you should rest it instead of working the mats today." Seth spoke softly, fearing her reaction to that information. But, instead of getting upset, she only nodded and looked up at Dean.
"Bed or couch, your highness?"
"Couch." She decided, letting Dean scoop her into his arms. "I need to keep my eye on things."
"Alright." Dean mumbled, looking to Seth with an unreadable expression. This was how he knew that Dean was worried. "Can you grab Olive, Seth?"
"Sure thing." The younger man assured, rushing to pick up the baby and carefully following Dean up the stairs. A small and wet hand found his beard and gripped a handful, sending shockwaves of pain through him but he soldiered on until they reached the top of the stairs. It was then that he sat down in the top step and helped, with a small bit of force, her untangle her hand from his beard. Then he scooted on his ass to the living room with Olivia in his and because he wasn't feeling like standing back up.
The looks on Dean's and CJ's faces was priceless once he came into view. Mild shock wasn't even the right way to describe it. Concerned may have been there, but to Seth it was the best thing ever.
"What the hell?"
"I had to sit down to get her hand out of my beard and then didn't feel like standing up." He explained with a smile, kissing Olivia's cheek. "She had fun."
"Jesus Christ we're a mess of a family." CJ groaned, letting her head fall back against the couch while Dean propped her knee up.
"Would you rather have it any other way?" Dean asked, smirking at her as he sat down on the floor.
"Not really." She admitted, looking over to see a sight that she really didn't mind and would love top see more of. Seth and Dean working together to make Olivia laugh and genuinely having fun together. No drama, no arguing. Just spending time with their daughter. "I could get used to this."
"Yeah?" Dean asked, his smile never fading and his finger in Olivia's mouth. "She's got some force in her bite now."
"That grip is something else, too." Seth added, still feeling where she had gripped his beard. Dean nodded, taking his finger back and standing up.
"I'm gonna get some ice for that knee, stay put."
"'Cause Seth is totally going to let me get up." She mumbled sarcastically, grinning when Dean flipped her off on his way into the kitchen. "I really hate that Dean and I are off of house shows for the week."
"Whys that?" Seth asked, lifting Olivia and smelling her diaper area to make sure that she was still fresh.
"Because I need more practice with people my size. But it's whatever. I'm gonna need the extra couple days to work my knee out, anyways."
"If we don't have it figured out by Friday, we're making you a doctor's appointment." Dean decided as he reentered the living room with a glass of water and some alieve. "Here, 'Stina."
"Thank you, Ambrose."
Absolutely beautiful. Seth thought to himself, watching Olivia and CJ while they slept on the couch. Dean was picking up dinner and CJ's birthday present, leaving him to watch over the two and take care of them should they wake up before Dean came home. But they had been sleeping soundly for the last half hour and he had just been watching, wondering if this would be the same picture had June second happened differently. He knew that he shouldn't be dwelling on the past, because it didn't fix anything, but he couldn't help it sometimes, especially when he was watching CJ with Olivia.
He felt that Dean would've come back into the picture because The Shield would've either still been together or had spilt nicely. They probably would've had both twins, and he imagined that he would've had a son. He would've named him Oliver. Oliver James Rollins. He hoped that he would've had his dark hair but his mother's bright eyes, because CJ had the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen and he had always wanted his children to have her eyes.
"Seth, why are you staring at me?" CJ asked softly, abruptly bringing Seth out of his thoughts without waking Olivia.
"Sorry, I was zoning out."
"Can you get Olive?" She asked quietly, gently rubbing the infant's back. "I have to pee."
"Sure thing. Is your knee feeling any better?" He asked as he carefully lifted Olivia to rest her head on his shoulder and held his hand out for her to take. He was honestly surprised that she actually took it and let him pull her to her feet.
"Yeah. Kinda sore, but I should be alright for mat stuff tomorrow." She spoke softly, looking up at Seth and recognizing the look in his eye. That was the way he looked at her when she first told him that she loved him. She couldn't deny how cute he looked holding Olivia. Not as good as Dean, of course, but still pretty damn good. Maybe it was a small tie? But she would always say that Dean was better looking because she shouldn't be looking at Seth that way.
"You okay, babe?" Seth asked quietly, placing his hand on her side and trying to maintain eye contact. She wasn't all there in her eyes and he could tell that she was thinking hard about something, but he'd never seen her like this before. "CJ?"
"Hm?" She hummed, looking up at him curiously as she snapped out of it.
"Are you okay?" He asked again, gently rubbing her side. She nodded, blinking a couple times while she reminded herself that he wasn't her boyfriend.
"I'm fine. Totally fine. Just- just tired."
"After you go pee you can lay down and I'll take care of the little one."
"I couldn't ask you to-"
"I can handle it. You should rest up anyways." He insisted, gently pulling her into him for a hug. "Rest, sweetheart, please."
What Seth wasn't expecting was for CJ to start crying into his chest. He only knew that she was because of the wetness soaking through his shirt. If he wasn't holding Olivia he would've been able to hold her tighter, but she didn't seem to mind.
"What's wrong?"
"I can't keep trying to make myself not love you, Seth." She sobbed into his chest, trying her hardest to stifle her sobs but to no avail.
"Sweetheart, calm down okay?" Seth whispered, pulling away and going to lay Olivia down on the padded mat Dean and CJ kept in the living room for her to sleep on. He wasn't at all surprised when Bear went to lay down beside her, since the Newfoundland was attached to the infant and always made it his goal to have her within his sight when she was unattended to.
"Sethie, I can't."
"You can't what?" He asked, not fully understanding what she was saying as he guided her to sit down on the couch. "I need you to calm down, please."
"I've tried and tried but I can't let you go and it isn't fair to Dean because I love him so much and Jay kissed me and-"
"What the hell is going on?" Dean asked, bringing Seth's attention to the doorway to the living room as the blonde entered the room and rushed to kneel in front of his girlfriend. "'Stina, baby, what's wrong?"
"I'm such a shitty person and you deserve better, Dean."
"Jesus Christ, not again." Dean muttered, something CJ couldn't hear over herself but Seth certainly picked up on it. "Christina Jeanette Copeland, listen to me and listen close."
It was silent between the three, Dean waiting for CJ to give some acknowledgement that she was actually listening while Seth looked between the two curiously. Every few seconds he would glance back to make sure that Olivia was still sleeping soundly, but his gaze fixed on the couple when he saw CJ nod.
"You're not a shitty person, babe. You're absolutely wonderful. Why would you think otherwise?"
"I'm a fucking whore, Dean. I love two men and let my ex kiss me without fighting back." She mumbled and Dean looked to Seth curiously with a hint of anger in his eyes. "Not Seth. He doesn't have a death wish."
"Loving us doesn't make you a whore, 'Stina. It's not a bad thing at all." Dean tried to convince her, but Seth knew that it wasn't going to get him anywhere.
"Somebody has to love us, CJ, and I'm pretty grateful that you love me and not anybody else."
"I agree with Seth. It's a messy job and because of our love, we have Olive. I could never think of you loving us both as a bad thing."
"Are you mad at me for not telling you about Jay?"
"No, baby, I'm mad at him for crossing that line." Dean assured, pulling her down into his arms for a tight hug. Seth really didn't know what to do, but Dean pulled him in by his shirt collar so he wrapped his arms around the couple with a small smile. "See? We're all good."
"I have to pee, guys." CJ mumbled after a couple minutes being locked in the hug and she felt them both let go instantly so she could handle her business, both men watching her knee carefully as she walked.
"Does this happen often?" Seth asked quietly, watching Dean as the blonde crawled to where their daughter was sleeping.
"Every now and again she'll have an episode but they're few and far between and relatively easy to handle." Dean whispered, kissing the infant's head before looking up at Seth. "You were doing okay from what I saw."
"I didn't really see it coming, I panicked." Seth brushed off the small compliment, knowing that he could've handled the situation better.
"I think everyone did the first time this happened around them. You did good, Seth."
"Sorry if I stepped over any boundaries...I really didn't-"
"As long as it isn't sexual, I don't care at this point. We tried so fucking hard to not need you, but I can't do it anymore. Kiss her if you want to."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm tired of watching her suffer silently because she misses you and doesn't want to say anything about it. I'm tired of suffering, too. You're my brother, Seth, and you're sticking around this carnival show so we might as well be completely straight with each other." Dean explained looking at Seth like he wanted to do something but didn't want to at the same time. Seth was used to this conflict and pulled the blonde into a hug, holding tightly to him to convey just how much he missed him to Dean.
"Guys, come eat." CJ requested, smiling when both men separated and watching the smiles on their faces grow as they walked together. She missed that and would always feel guilty that she was the reason it was broken in the first place.
"Feeling better?" Dean asked, gently taking her into his arms and rubbing her back.
"Yeah. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you about Jay. I just couldn't figure out how."
"Don't worry about it. I told Seth that he didn't have to back off anymore. No sex, obviously, but everything else was okay."
"Is that something you're okay with, Dean?"
"If I wasn't okay with it, I wouldn't have told him that it was okay. Now let's go eat before Olive wakes up and wants to eat."
Sorry that this took so long to get out. Like I mentioned on my Twitter, my laptop decided to die and take a whole bunch of my ideas with it so trying to remember what I wanted in this chapter was hard.
Thank you to Sarcastic Nightmare, calwitch, ChelleLew, ItReignsJustice-619, and JeffHardyChicka365 for reviewing the last chapter! I greatly appreciate it.
