Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley was seated in the middle of her grandiose bed that sat in the middle of her grandiose bedroom of her grandiose mansion. Her eyes were glued to her phone, a devilish smirk on her face as she scrolled through screenshots sent to her by an employee who had been tasked to keep track of Seth, CJ, and Dean through social media. But, since Dean was active on CJ's social media accounts and not his own, this employee only had to watch CJ's and Seth's interactions. And this employee did their job very well.
Seth and CJ did quite a bit of flirting over social media. Constantly retweeting and tweeting to each other, tagging each other in "funny" posts, posting old pictures of each other to playfully spite one another, and Stephanie thought that was sick. But in a way that would surely benefit her. Seth and CJ had a longstanding romance-like-thing that lasted longer than her current relationship with Dean has so far. Seth loved her, Stephanie was sure that he still did, and she was also certain that CJ harbored some sort of love for Seth. There was no way they could've spent that much time together for not to love Seth to some degree.
This made the Billion Dollar Princess think. Was her relationship with Dean strong enough to withhold the ultimate test? Could she keep Seth at an arm's length if they were together literally every moment of every day without Dean nearby? Could Seth respect their relationship when he was obviously still in love with her? Would he cross a line? Would CJ let him or would she push him away? Would she tell Dean? Would their little family crumble because Seth invaded the relationship or would it crumble because CJ didn't have the resolve to push him away? She had to test this theory.
"Steph, what are you doing?"
"Stalking the social media interactions of our rivals." She answered honestly, knowing that her husband would think that she was kidding. He knew that she had plenty to do, corporate wise, but she had prioritized her life to be able to have time to do this.
"That's a good one, Steph." Hunter laughed on his way to the bathroom, and she couldn't help but smile to herself as she laid back against the pillows and looked at a picture that Seth had posted on instagram.
"I want Seth and CJ scheduled for appearances together from now on. They're our top champions."
"What are you planning Steph?" He called from the bathroom, not bothering to look back out into the bedroom to see what his wife was doing. He knew she was plotting against the Heyman family. Why wouldn't she? She wanted to see CJ Jericho's fall from grace, and he knew that she would stoop to any level necessary to do it.
"I want to destroy her, Hunter. From the inside out and I want to laugh as I stand over her unconscious body after I beat her down to nothing."
"So you do want a match with her?"
"Oh yeah."
He wasn't sure that he liked her tone. At all. While he had heard her voice get low like that before, but there was something else in her voice. Something...darker than he'd ever heard before. He knew that she hated CJ Jericho and the Heyman Family with a passion like no other, but he had never expected her to be this enamored by their destruction. He'd never seen her want to completely destroy another person before, either. Everything that had happened with Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan was child's play compared to this fascination with CJ Jericho's demise. He was actually kind of worried, not just for CJ but for his wife's mental state. She was almost obsessed with the idea of destroying CJ, and he was starting to get the feeling that she wasn't just kidding about stalking their rivals.
As long as I kinda stay out of this, I'm okay. The less involved I am, the better.
The internet was abuzz by the time Monday night rolled around and CJ was more than just proud of it. Stephanie had blasted her on Twitter about it, but she didn't care because she, Seth, and Dean, had generated hundreds of thousands of likes on three different pictures- totaling almost 2 million likes altogether. They had everybody's attention, which meant that Stephanie was merely an afterthought, and CJ thought that was amazing. Three pictures, just three, along with three captions that just screamed "Seth still loves CJ but is trying to be low key about it".
'#WomanCrushWednesday or #WayBackWednesday? Either way both work for this picture because this was ages ago and she's one fine specimen.' Was the caption of the picture Seth had taken of CJ while she was driving them somewhere.
'#TBT to when I first got to hang out with this wonderful woman on my home turf. For the record, she's totally watching Jersey Shore.' For a picture of CJ lounging on Seth's couch wearing a pair of sweatpants and a tanktop with her hair wrapped up in a high bun. She wasn't even looking into the camera and didn't even know that picture was taken until Seth had posted it, which made Dean laugh when she finally saw it and was completely amazed by it.
Her personal favorite, though, was his "Flashback Friday" picture. It was a picture of her in his arms from when she had to defend the Divas Championship in a Battle Royal and he had caught her after somebody had tipped her over the rope. The caption made her laugh, though, because Seth had gotten real creative with that one. '#FBF to when I not only saved her ass, but her title reign too, and also got to touch her ass. Its pretty nice.'
But now things had to get serious. Her shoulder was still hurting and the docs wanted her keeping it in a sling for a while to make sure that she didn't make it any worse than it already was. Instead of being dislocated, her shoulder was actually separated and she was lucky to not need surgery on it. But she was out of action for four to six weeks and wasn't too sure how she felt about it. That alone was grounds to vacate her title but, again, she got lucky with the Divas having their tournament for the vacant title that would carry though to the week before Money in the Bank. Her shoulder would be fine by the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, at least she hoped, and then she could beat the hell out of Stephanie at Battleground. She'd even let Billion Dollar Princess survive to SummerSlam before getting her ass kicked.
"How's the shoulder, CJ?" Natalya asked and CJ blinked a couple times before she realized that she was sitting in catering with her fellow countrywoman. A glance down at her left arm had her biting her lip in small uncertainty before looking back up at her friend with a small smile.
"Been better and been worse." She used her typical phrase, not wanting to let on that she was in a hell of a lot of pain right now. She was trying to go through the day without painkillers, but it was proving to be one hellish task that had her wanting to down either a bottle of tylenol or a bottle of whiskey. "Nothing I can't handle though."
"You'll be at commentary for my match tonight?"
"Damn straight. Gotta praise one of Canada's finest, don't I?"
"If you didn't, I would be so offended." Natalya laughed as they stood from their seats, wrapping her arm around CJ's waist in a side hug as they left the room. Years of on-again-off-again friendship had CJ more than used to the affection from the cat-lady she called her best lady friend, and she laid her head on her shoulder until she saw J&J approaching with a camera crew right behind them. "Oh god."
"Tell me about it."
"Well well well, there's the devil herself." Jamie announced, looking CJ up and down with a smirk. "Why aren't you in your ring wear?"
"Beause I don't have a match."
"You must not have gotten the memo then. You're tagging with your good buddy over here tonight." Joey spoke up, getting a raised eyebrow from both Canadians as CJ rested her free arm on her hip.
"I'm not cleared to compete."
"Then I guess Nattie here is going at it alone in a handicap match." Jamie sneered as they walked off and CJ looked to her friend with a concerned expression.
"Dean isn't going to like this, but I'll go get my jeans on." She sighed as she started to walk away.
"CJ, no." Natalya argued, grabbing CJ by the wrist to keep her close. "I'm not letting you go out there to get hurt."
"But I'm not going to let you go out in to unfair advantages while I stand idly by."
"That won't make you any less of a friend."
"But I'd feel terrible and that's really not something I want sitting on my conscience."
"You think I want it on mine?"
"Well, no. But-"
"I will let you stand on the apron, look pretty, and break up pins. I will not tag you in. Sound good?"
"As good as it can get." CJ sighed, letting Natalya lead her away to where the rest of the Heyman family was. As expected, Dean was livid about her being forced into a match and Paul was scanning through her contact for what this match would be breaching. Seth just sat and held Olivia, keeping quiet about it all and watching as she dug through their bags for her ring jeggings.
"CJ you're not going out there!"
"I'm not neglecting Nattie and leaving her out there to get demolished." Was all CJ said before shutting the bathroom door behind her. Natalya just looked around the room, not used to being in such an environment, and shifted her weight between her feet nervously.
"For the record, I don't want her out there either."
"And we all appreciate that." Paul spoke up, smiling over at the Canadian as CJ reemerged. She got her kickpads from Seth and kissed Olivia's forehead before kissing Dean and pulling Paul out of the room by the hand with Natalya trailing behind. All three were wearing looks that would have anybody who looked at them the wrong way six feet under and everyone was making a point to stay out of their way. "How'd you change your pants?"
"It hurt a bit." CJ admitted, knowing that she should've asked Dean to help her out but she didn't want to hear him tell her what she could and couldn't do. She knew that he was worrying, but she was her own person and she had her own standards to live by. Sure, Nattie had done her wrong in the past but they had reconciled and were doing pretty well as friends. She wasn't going to do wrong by Natalya until Natalya had done wrong by her. It was simple.
"Please don't overdo anything, dearest. The last thing we need is you making that separation worse and needing surgery to repair it."
"I know." CJ nodded, smiling over at him despite the thoughts cycling through her mind. Everything wasn't going exactly to plan. She wasn't expecting The Authority to completely ignore that she was injured and throw her into a match anyway. It had happened before, but that was Regal's doing and not The Authority. But now, Stephanie wanted her hurt. But Stephanie couldn't get what she wanted this time. The only thing Stephanie was going to get was an ass beating, and that was final.
"We planned to just keep her on the apron to break up pins and such." Natalya added, gently patting CJ to bring her out of her head. It seemed to work, the blonde blinking a few times before nodding her agreement to whatever had been said. "We really just need her looking pretty."
Don't overdo yourself, Christina. Dean thought to himself, smiling as he watched his girlfriend joining Natalya on the ramp with Paul by her side. Paul was holding her belt up high for her, since she only had one good arm and that was currently being held up by Natalya in her typical fashion. The connection those two had was incredible to Dean. They'd turn on each other in an instant, but they maintained the respect that they had for one another.
CJ had told him about the long nights she and Nattie had where they basically broke into the developmental training facility after hours so they could have ring to themselves and no prying eyes while they worked on moves together. Now that he had put some actual thought into it; CJ had told him more stories of her adventures with Natalya than she had any other person, and that made him realize that Natayla was like her Seth. "Wrestling Soulmates" was how Seth put in talking about their relationship in the ring, and he knew that Natalya and CJ were so alike. Their rivalry was something that he hoped would be showcased on a larger scale like a dvd or something, because their matches while they were friends were great but their matches while they were enemies were always red-hot. He knew that they had a weird "generational star" bond, both technically being 3rd generation athletes(if you counted CJ's hockey star grandpa Ted Irvine), which was why they knew close to everything about each other's mindsets while in the ring and out of the ring but they didn't let that interfere with business. Natalya made that clear when she betrayed CJ after she won the Diva's Championship her first time and CJ made it clear when she didn't hesitate to pin Natalya for the Diva's Championship at WrestleMania instead of taking the "easy out" and pinning Alicia. To some it may have seemed ridiculous that she'd pin the fresher woman and risk not getting the three-count, but it was a sign of respect between the two of them.
"Even with one arm, she can still make that jump." Seth commented with a smile, bringing Dean out of his thoughts and his attention was on the way CJ and Natalya interacted whilst glaring down Naomi and Tamina. Even with the dirtiest of looks on their faces, they still acted happy to be around one another. High-fiving and talking to each other- obviously talking shit to each other about their opponents. CJ made a show out of yawning as she leaned against the ropes, something Natayla got a kick out of as the ref called for the bell to ring.
His interest was more on CJ's shoulder than the actual match. He was making sure that she continued to protect her injured shoulder whenever she did get involved. So far so good, she was using her legs more than her arms. Superkicks and roundhouses were used more than anything, except for when she landed an enzuigiri to the back of Naomi's head when the Uso got Natalya into the Sharpshooter. She landed directly on her shoulder after that, and Paul had to pull her out of the ring by her ankle to help the doctor assess the damage done to her shoulder.
"Go." Seth murmured, looking to see Dean literally shaking because it was taking everything in him not to bolt out the door to go check on her.
"Hm?"
"You're worried about her, so go check on her. Pull her out of there. Whatever you need to do." The younger man elaborated, gently patting Dean's shoulder. "I've got Liv, you go get CJ."
The blonde didn't have to be told twice, the door slamming shut behind him as he rushed out of the room. Seth could only smile down at the infant in his arms, knowing that she hit the jackpot as far as parents were concerned. If Dean moved that quickly to check on CJ, just imagine how quickly he'd move when Olivia got hurt. The sound barrier may be broken on that day.
Okay...so I got stuck and that' why this chapter is so short and took so long. Its kinda sad when you know what you want to happen, but don't have the words to make it happen. But all should be well now.
I'd like to thank meredith757, theShield757, Carolyn, AJPunk757, moeshellz757, CarolReigns, Imagineer1392, ItReignsJustice-619, and KariAnneYukari21 for reviewing the last chapter! I'm thinking that something big...ish(perhaps medium sized) should be done to celebrate a thousand reviews when we get there. But I dunno...I'm rambling.
