Dean Ambrose wanted what his girlfriend wanted, plain and simple. He liked her friends (more like tolerated but he didn't ever have to go into specifics on that topic), which was why he didn't mind Natalya and her husband Tyson coming to spend a couple days with them. They were a decent couple, they had a lot in common with him and CJ and they weren't obnoxious by any standards, which was why he had no real issue with it...
...until the Total Divas camera crew walked through the front door with them. That was something that he was very against and had plenty of issues with.
Dean Ambrose was a man who liked to blend in with the crowd for the most part. Apart from the pictures he and CJ posted to her instagram and their relationship and child being public, he was a very private man. Life was easier for him that way. This camera crew would fuck all of that up. His home, his inner sanctuary where nothing mattered to him but CJ, Olivia, and Bear, was currently being invaded and would be showcased to the world and that didn't sit well with him.
Dean Ambrose wanted what his girlfriend wanted but he wasn't certain that she wanted this, either. She had declined the offer to be on the next season of Total Divas for this reason exactly. She wasn't comfortable with it and she was damn sure that he wouldn't be comfortable with it and she didn't want either of them to be uncomfortable. But here they were, on camera as they all sat at the table on the patio in the back yard. This was not how he had planned to spend his weekend.
"I'm really excited about your pool/jacuzzi combo, CJ." Natalya spoke with a laugh, CJ joining in on the laughter as she looked over to the pool.
"We haven't used it yet, so I'm pretty excited too." CJ admitted, adjusting Olivia in her arms. The infant was half awake and watching her father tiredly as he played with her small feet, which only made her drowsier.
"Seriously?" Tyson asked, looking between their hosts in mild shock. Dean nodded, looking over to the pool before exchanging a glance with his girlfriend. "How long have you guys lived here?"
"A while...?" CJ trailed off with a small, slightly embarrassed, laugh. "We're both busy. Whatever exercise we can get in the pool I'd much rather get in the gym."
"Amen to that." Natayla nodded, high fiving CJ over the table. "Do you wanna go out tonight?"
"Pretty sure once you have a child, 'Girl's Night Out' is frowned upon." CJ shut down the idea, but a lightbulb went off in Dean's head. If she was out partying with Natalya, then the cameras wouldn't be at the house and his sanctuary would be a sanctuary again, if only for a few hours. But a few hours of watching wrestling with Tyson and Olivia without cameras in his face was enough to keep him sane for their days off.
"I wouldn't mind watching Olive, CJ." He spoke up, and CJ looked over at him in mild surprise. "Go out and have fun with your friend."
"You're sure?"
"Positive. Go get blitzed. I'll be here to take care of you in the morning."
"You are just so sweet, Dean." Natalya complimented, grinning at Dean in thanks before grinning at CJ. "We should go out and make sure that we look good."
"For who?" CJ asked, thinking that the only people they needed to look good for wouldn't be there.
"Social media." Natalya informed, looking at CJ as if she had grown another head. "Let's go through your closet to see what dresses you've got."
"I have one dress that's good for a girls night out."
"The gray one?"
"The gray one."
"I like the gray one." Dean added in, earning himself a look from both Canadian women. Natalya looked unimpressed, while CJ looked pleased with his response.
"That dress is three years old and I only know that because I forced you to buy it. You need to refresh your wardrobe a bit." Natalya spoke, watching as CJ shrugged before looking down at Olivia. "Oh she's sleeping. God, she's such a beautiful little girl."
"Thank you." CJ and Dean spoke in unison, high-fiving like they always did when Olivia was complemented. Bear hopped up so that his front paws were on the arm of Dean's chair, the Ohioan looking over to his furbaby and kissing his muzzle before picking up the tennis ball and lobbing it across the yard.
"Do you want me to lay her down?" Dean asked, looking away from Bear in time to see CJ shake her head.
"I have to go upstairs anyway to grab my shoes if Nattie and I are going shopping."
"Just be mindful of your shoulder, please." He requested, watching as CJ stood with Olivia and headed into the house.
"I'll personally ensure that she doesn't use that arm for anything but driving." Natalya assured before following after CJ and leaving Dean with Tyson.
"So, what kind of bear is that again?" Tyson asked, watching as Bear dropped the ball into Dean's waiting hand. The blonde could only chuckle, throwing the ball across the yard and watching as Bear ran to get it excitedly.
"A damn good one."
"You and Dean are hands down the most perfect couple I've ever seen." Natalya gushed as CJ backed out of the driveway. She was driving Dean's car like always, and smiled over at her friend as she drove. "Like, he just loves you so much and it's so obvious to anybody walking down the street that you two are in love."
"Thanks Nattie." CJ spoke softly, trying not to focus on the camera attached to Dean's dashboard. It was so weird to have a camera directly in front of her face, she didn't know how Natalya or any of the others did this. She could never be part of a reality show for this reason. She felt way too weird and like she was under a microscope. She could not handle that. "Money in the Bank on Sunday?"
"Money in the Bank. I'm so excited for the Diva's title match."
"I just wish you were in it." CJ spoke honestly, wanting to build more power by ensuring that every title was held by somebody she was friends with. Stephanie McMahon would really hate that which was why CJ really wanted that to be a thing. But, she couldn't have everything and that point was evidenced when Natalya was pulled from the Diva's Championship Tournament simply because she associated with CJ and Stephanie had the power to make those decisions. "Think of the position of power we'd be in."
"Canadian domination."
"Yas, Nattie." CJ cheered before bursting into a fit of laughter. "I can't believe I just said that."
"You invited Dean to 'netflix and chill', so I'm pretty sure you're allowed to use 'yas'." Natalya spoke, laughing as CJ shook her head. One of their phones vibrating in the cupholders stopped all conversation, and CJ pulled hers out once she was stopped at a red light and was surprised to see a text from Heyman.
'Just got off the phone with Vince. He wants a short WWE24-like documentary about your road to SummerSlam much like they did with Reigns at WrestleMania. Just so you are aware, the whole thing would be on your terms.'
CJ could only let out a small hum, shrugging as the light turned green and quickly sending an acknowledgment to her advocate before setting her phone back down. She definitely had to talk to Dean about that, but this made her wonder. Was she getting thrust in front of cameras so often because they wanted to warm her up to the idea of being on Total Divas, or was she just reading too much into it? Either way, she didn't really like it.
"What was it?"
"Heyman, no big deal." She spoke the half-truth, deciding not to think about it any more until it was time for that. "Just friendly reminders that I need to be training the rest of my body even though I'm resting my shoulder."
"We should definitely hit the mats tomorrow if we're not too hungover. Is there a good gym in town with a ring?"
"My basement." CJ responded simply, not bothering to look over at her friend until she stopped at a red light and was waiting to turn left. "What?"
"Your basement has a ring?"
"Well... not a ring ring, but it's got the good mats. Dean and I have been using it to train since like January." CJ explained, biting her lip when Natalya chuckled.
"You two really do breathe wrestling."
"It was more of a safety thing, I had to get into ring shape but neither of us wanted to take Olive out in public at that point. We don't breathe wrestling, we breathe the health and safety of our first born child."
"Are you two planning on having more?"
"It's been discussed, but we both have a lot of time to be young and we both want Olivia to know what's going on when we do have another baby."
"So she can be all excited about being a big sister and- oh that's just so cute."
"Nattie, everything my family does is cute."
"Because you and Dean are two cutie-patooties which has rubbed off on your cute baby and cute dog." Natalya responded, grinning when CJ let out a laugh at her statement.
"I should put that in my Twitter bio: 'WWE Women's Champ, proud mother, cutie-patootie.'
"What's your bio right now?"
"Something like that but with some more boasting about how rad I am."
"You are pretty rad."
"It's because I'm Canadian."
"Try this one on, CJ."
"Nattie, I already have two that I like. Pretty sure I don't need a third." CJ reasoned, holding up the red and black dresses to remind her friend of what she had in her hand. Being brutally honest, CJ didn't like the color of that dress (pink wasn't a color she really liked and she was certain that she didn't wear it well either) and it was pretty short. She may have been blessed by getting a night out; but she was still a mother, role model to small children, and technically a representative of the company even if one of her bosses was dead set on ruining her life. Skimpy dresses weren't something she could comfortably wear anymore even if she practically lived in cropped tops these days.
"But-"
"I'll let you do my makeup if we keep it at two."
"You drive a hard bargain, but I'll accept." Natalya spoke with a smirk, putting the pink dress back on the rack before pulling CJ over to the cash register. "Where should we go?"
"I dunno. I haven't been to any clubs here in years."
"No?"
"When I moved out here I was pregnant so there was no clubbing for me, and Dean and I prefer bars whenever we do have the chance to go out together- which is rare because we don't have people in Vegas that we trust to watch Olive, so my dad and Beth would have to be in town for us to go out." She explained, thumbing through her wallet and playing a small game of 'eenie meenie miney moe' to pick which card to use while having an internal debate over the pros and cons of each card. Debit would mean that she wouldn't have to worry about remembering to pay the credit card bill, but using credit would mean that she wouldn't have to worry about her frugal boyfriend seeing how much she spent on two dresses.
"I'll google some nice clubs nearby." Natalya assured, watching CJ scroll through her phone. "I'll text Rosa and ask, since she used to live out here."
"I'm pretty sure almost half the company lives in Vegas."
"Really?"
"Shit you not, I ran into Ryback at the pet store." CJ commented, grinning when Natalya looked over at her in shock while paying for her own dresses. "He's got a cute little dog for being such a big guy."
"Well you're a little lady with a big dog, so it's fair."
"Bear isn't big."
"His name is Bear, pretty sure that speaks for itself."
"Go home, Nattie."
"I can't, because you drove. Now, where's a good nail salon?"
"That, I actually can lead you to because there's this place that Beth and I love. They really take care of you there." CJ gushed, grinning at her friend as they walked down the street. Natalya honestly couldn't remember the last time she had seen her friend looking so carefree. Usually CJ was all business, all day, which was one of her own personal ways of protecting herself but right now she was just so open. It was really nice to see her like this, even if it was only for a few hours, because once they went back to work it would be back to business for the younger blonde and Natalya knew that she was going to miss carefree CJ.
"Hey CJ?"
"Hm?"
"Thanks for today and tonight."
"Why are you thanking me?" She asked, tilting her head slightly as the two women stopped in front of the nail salon. Natalya knew that she couldn't straight up thank her friend for being so open and happy, because they were on camera and she knew that CJ didn't want the nation knowing that there were two sides of her personality. "It's just a nail salon."
"I know, but it's going to be really fun to hang out with my sister from another mister again, and I know I'm going to probably get so drunk that I won't remember to thank you tonight or tomorrow."
"You dweeb." CJ laughed, gently nudging her friend's shoulder. "I won't let you forget the great things I do. I'm that conceited."
"I am well aware."
