I don;t own Atla only my OC Kaiyan

'In the south pole, a young boy no older than 12 sits in a lotus position. He has hair as white as snow back into a ? with a strand hanging down with two blue beads on it that are framed on the right side of his face. His name is Kaiyan.

Big Bro said a male voice.

Brother said a female voice.

He opened his eyes to the familiar voices. The voices of his younger brother Sokka and younger sister Katara,

They ran towards, each grabs an arm and pulls him from his position on his feet.

You said you'd show me some warrior moves today said Sokka.

No Raka said he'd do some waterbending with me by the river said Katara,

You can play with magic water whenever with him said Sokka.

Alright, now you two cut it out said Kaiyan.

I never make promises I can't keep, my word is my bond said Kaiyan.

They go outside the village to a nearby river with a field beside it.

First, Kaiyan shows Sokka all moves he'd been practicing with their father that week.

Katara boringly watched them do the routines. After a while, Kaiyan showed Sokka the last set of moves and left him to practice on his own.

Kaiyan, Look what I can do said Katara.

Katara shows him a bubble trick she had been working on that week

Did you see it? Did see you what I made? I am a waterbending master said Katara.

Then the bubble popped and she got sad.

The was great Katara, Teach me your ways o wise one said Kaiyan,

Katara instantly forgot about her bubble and cheered up.

Then Kaiyan began to teach Katara some basic moves he had learned on his own.

After a while, Sokka comes up to them.

Bro, how come my kicks are so lame while yours are so cool? Can I have some of your talent? Asks Sokka.

He smiled and shook his head at his little brother's antics.

Sokka come here for a minute said Kaiyan.

Are you gonna give me some of your talent? Asks Sokka.

No, you have plenty of your own, but I will give you a piece of advice said Kaiyan,

And what's that? Asks Sokka.

Set your own pace and learn at that pace not mine said Kaiyan.

But how will I know my own pace? Asks Sokka.

That you have to discover on your own said Kaiyan,

Then he shows Sokka the movements again and goes back to waterbending with Katara.

Little did they know they were being watched by an unknown figure who had seen it all and sent a messenger hawk to his employer to report what has seen and left without making a single sound.

After hours of playing Kaiyan notices, the sun is beginning to set.

Ok guys time to go home said Kaiyan,

They complained and begged for a while longer but Kaiyan being the responsible older brother he guided them back to the village and towards their home.

As they walked through the village Kaiyan noticed the absence of the men and made a notice in his mind to ask his mother or grandmother why and also another question that had long been on his mind.

They finally made it to their igloo and went inside.

Welcome home said an old woman.

Gran-gran said Katara.

Each of them hugged their grandmother.

Where's dad? Asks Kaiyan,

He's called a meeting for the warriors. I don't what it's about but he should be back soon said another female voice.

they look up to see a younger woman who is their mother Kya.

Hey, mom said Kaiyan.

She kissed each of her children.

Then she notices the look on her oldest child's face.

Dear, what's wrong? Asks Kya.

Mom I've wondered for a while now... why is my hair white? Asks Kaiyan,

Yeah, why is his hair like that it's so cool said Sokka?

Yeah, your hair is so pretty brother said Katara.

Thanks, guys said

But seriously though why is kaiyan's hair like that? Asks Sokka.

Now all three were curious.

The day you were born the moon was closer I had ever seen it almost as if I could touch it. Your father and I were on the ice I was warm that day and lights danced in the sky. But I want;t paying for that for I was giving birth to you and I was having trouble said Kya.

What? I did hurt you? Asks Kaiyan,

No, my darling wasn't you it was me. See I was sick when I was pregnant with you, you were so strong and growing so quickly I didn't have the strength to keep up with you. I ended up going into labor two months early and you were so big compared to little me I couldn't push you out no matter how hard I tried. The pain was just too much and if I couldn't get you out there was a chance both you and I would die if nothing was done soon said Kya.

Your father and were far from the village and a blizzard was starting to move in but lucky your father found a cave for us to take shelter in. stranded and without much hope, your father and I pleaded with the moon and ocean spirits said Kya.

Did the spirits help you, mommy? Asks Katara.

Yeah did they? Asks Sokka.

Well, remember what I said about the Moon and the light in the sky? Asks Kya.

Yeah said Sokka.

Well, a white light came down from the moon and took my pain away. The light was beautiful and looked like freshly fallen snow and I could have sworn I seen a white koi fish in the light. But at the time I didn't really pay much attention at the time because my pushing had started to work and after hours your head was finally visibly but you were suffering because you were in me for too long said Kya.

But that doesn't said Kaiyan,

The light lifted my pain. But I didn't want the moon to heal me. I wanted it to save you and it did when you were finally born your hair was as snow. Then we realized the light was going into you keeping you safe. The spirits had answered our prayers. Your hair is a symbol. You are blessed by the Moon spirit said Kya.

Wow said Katara and Sokka.

Then Hakoda came from a long meeting and greeted his family.

He ended up wrestling with his sons well the women watched.

The next day.

Kaiyan went outside thinking would be a peaceful day but little did he know his life was about to change forever.

For that day the fire nation would attack.

Kaiyan is helping his father with work.

Dad, mom told me the story of what happened the day was I born said Kaiyan.

She did said Hakoda.

Yes, and she said you two were miles from the village when she went into labor with me why were you so far from the village? Said Kaiyan.

Well, we wanted to get out for one final time before your birth so we decided to go to the polar cove said Hakoda.

But that six days from here and it out in the middle of nowhere why would go that far when mom was so pregnant? Asks Kaiyan.

It was her idea and you weren't due for another two months so we figured it was ok said Hakoda.

Well this done you can go spend some time with Katara and Sokka if you want said Hakoda.

Are you sure? don't help with anything else? Asks Kaiyan,

Kaiyan we appreciate the help but you're still a kid and you deserve to be one said Hkaoda.

Ok said Kaiyan.

He takes off.

That boy of yours is an odd one Hakoda said a warrior.

Huh? Said Hakoda.

Yeah, I can barely get my son to help me said another warrior.

Your son is only two Askan said the first warrior.

I know but still said Askan.

Scene change

Kaiyan finds his siblings involved in a snow fight and decides to let them have it for themselves.

Sokka is about to throw a large snowball at Katara when black snow begins to fall.

Kaiyan had never seen it in person but he knew what it was from stories he had heard from the warriors and his dad and he knew what it meant.

A Fire Nation raid said Kaiyan.

I'm going to find mom said Katara.

Sokka ran towards the Warriors.

Everyone get to igloo's in the back of the village said Kaiyan.

Kaiyan guided the women, elderly, and children into the igloo's furthest from the battlefield.

He looked to see if Sokka was ok and he was.

Then Kaiyan headed for their house to get Katara.

As he nears the igloo he hears some yell.

You heard your mother, get out of here said a male voice.

Katara runs out of the igloo, sees Kaiyan, and runs to him.

Kaiyan there's a strange man in our house said Katara.

Go get dad he's on the northeast side of the village go on Katara. Everything will be fine said Kaiyan,

She ran.

He ran inside the house and found a Firebender standing over his mother.

Sorry, I'm afraid I'm not taking prisoner today said the man.

Get away from my mom shouted Kaiyan,

Kaiyan tackled the man to the ground.

The man quickly got back up.

Kaiyan goes to his feet first and stood between the firebender and his mother.

Kaiyan attack once more but his body was small and he was inexperienced compared to the skilled firebender and it was long before Kaiyan was on the ground.

Without thinking Kaiyan shot a piece of ice at the firebender with his waterbending.

The ice hit him just below the left eye.

The firebender is shocked.

Another one? Interesting said the firebender.

I'll just have to kill you both said The firebender.

Wait please spare him he;s a just boy said Kya.

I told you I'm not taking any prisoners said the firebender.

He shot fire at them.

Then Kya shielded her son and took most of the blast but he was not unscathed,

Kaiyan feel the searing intense burning pain, he heard his mother scream and the man's laughter said their pain then darkness took Kaiyan.

He goes to check out his work but hears voices. A lot of voices.

My work here is done said the firebender.

He leaves.

Hakoda rush towards his home.

Kaiyan! Kya! Shouted Hakoda.

He entered the house and the scene shocked him.

The bodies of His eldest son and wife are in a corner of the house.

No please said Hkaoda.

Hakoda looks around surveying the scene to see what had happened. Blood and Scorch marks cover the walls. Kaiyan had oblivious put up a fight but it didn't last for long. Kya was over their son taking most of what he knew was probably the final blow. She has protected Kaiyan was her dying breath.

Kya said Hakoda.

It was when the rest of his family had entered the house and broke down at the sight.

after a bit.

They decided to move the bodies and prepare them for burial.

He moved Kya first and then went for Kaiyan but was surprised to hear a gasp.

He's alive said Hkaoda.

Kaiyan is still breathing I need help in here Hakoda shouts.

Men rushed in and Katara and Sokka were taken out by their Grandmother.

Take him to the healer's hut said Hakoda.

They carefully lift Kaiyan and as fast as they can without causing more damage.

The healer is shocked at Kaiyan's state.

Arka please help him said Hakoda.

Arka made up a cot.

Put him down gently said Arka.

They do as instructed.

Someone go get a bucket of water and bring it back here said Arka.

I Will said a woman.

She rushes out of the hut.

We need to get his clothes off from the waist up as carefully as possible said Arka.

They strip Kayian as carefully as they can and were shocked to see how badly he is burned.

Then the woman comes back with the water and is also shocked by Kaiyan's burn

Put the water down here and someone get me a stack of clean clothes maybe two

someone rushes off.

I need someone to hold his head and someone to hold down his feet.

I'll hold his feet said Bato.

I'll get his head but don't you have a sedative? said Hakoda.

In his condition that is not the best course of treatment said Arka.

Two villagers brought back stacks of white clothes.

Arka took a cloth from one of the stacks, submerged it into the bucket of water, and wrang out the excess water.

Now hold him down firmly it will be painful for him said Arka.

They do as asked and Arka starts cleaning Kaiyan's burn.

Kaiyan arches his back the pain.

Hold him said Arka.

Hours and another two buckets of water later Kaiyan's wounds her now clean and dressed.

His burns are widespread over the? side of his upper body said Arka.

How long will it take him to recover? asks Hakoda.

At least a year if he survives said Arka.

What do you mean? asks Bato.

There are many things the could kill him such as infection of the burns and then there's the possibility he might not ever wake up and he could pass away in his sleep. still, if he does wake up it will be a long road to recovery for him said Arka.

Thank you Arka said Hakoda.

My condolences on the passing of Kya said Arka.

The Arka walks out of the hut to gave them some privacy.

He's strong Hakoda said Bato.

I know but maybe death would be more merciful for him said Hakoda.

They kept a vigil at Kaiyan's bedside for five days and nights.

On the sixth day, they heard something.

Ugh said Kaiyan.

They see him slowly open his eyes.

Wha? what? asks Kaiyan.

He tries to sit up but is pushed back down by his father.

Takw it easy son said Hakoda.

Where? asks Kaiyan.

You're in the medical hut, you've been asleep for 5 days said Hakoda.

Mom? said Kaiyan.

They all look down and he realizes his mother is dead.

I must grow stronger, much stronger thought Kaiyan.
