Seeker glanced nervously over the waterfall that was thundering down into the river below and she shivered before she turned back to Levi and Small Bite. Small Bite had insisted on helping when he learned she didn't know how to fly and thankfully he didn't push on the subject of why an adult dragon couldn't fly.
"Have to believe, have to know inside you can fly" he had chirped as he had shown her a few demonstrations on flying as Levi had dried off.
The little dragon had made flying look impossibly easy and he had told her it was as easy as breathing but that was easier said than done in her opinion. He had been flying for years and had a dam and sire to teach him.
Seeker sighed as she stepped away from the cliff and she turned around and walked towards Levi. Small Bite scampered across the ground, meeting her at the halfway point before Seeker turned to face the cliff once again. She gave the terrible terror a nod before they moth ran forwards.
The Terrible Terror unfolded his wings and began to flap and take flight and Seeker copied him as best the could and when she reached the cliff edge she jumped and flapped her wings. Her eyes widened as she felt the air catch her and she let out a roar at the feeling of wind under her wings.
As she glided Small Bite flew beside her and gave her an excited chirp and she could hear Levi back at the cliff cheating her on. She glanced back at her brother and she flashed him her best toothy dragon smile she could muster. Turning her head back her eyes widened as she hadn't realized she had gotten so close to the ground and she cried out as she crashed straight into a bush.
Seeker rolled through the bush and branches broke under her as she skidded to a stop and she whined as she glanced at herself. Her wings and tail were fine but she could feel bruises forming under her scales around her legs and chest where she took the brunt of the crash.
She was glad that all the damage she had taken was some bruising and with her quick self inspection complete she turned to Small Bite who had landed next to her. "I fine, only small hurts." she told the Terror.
Small Bite gave her a nod. "Good glide, now you must go to cliff where all hatchlings take first flight." he said as he began flying towards the river. When they breached the trees they found Levi already on the bottom and Seeker gave him a questioning look and he smiled.
"There's a path not too far into the trees that leads down here." he said smugly as he approached them and Seeker gave him an eye roll before they began to follow Small Bite along the river.
As they followed the small dragon Seeker could feel her brother's eyes on her back and she kept glancing at him but he looked away each time confusing her. She gave him a confused look and he glanced at her and he smiled brightly. She gave him a questioning look which he responded to with a bigger grin causing her to huff in frustration.
She decided to ignore him for now and she padded faster to keep closer with Small Bite all the while she occasionally glanced at her brother who she knew was up to know good. She knew better than to think it was nothing after years of dealing with his antics.
Carefully she watched him with the corner of her eye and she never let him leave her sight as they traveled along the river. When she saw a sudden movement from her brother she snapped around just as he went flying towards her, landing on her back. Albeit through his but landed on her head and his chest on her back.
She gave a snort before he reared and tossed him onto the ground causing him to face plant and eat dirt. She gave him a smug look of challenge as he stood up and glared at her. "Ooh it's on now" the boy said as he walked past her and she waped him with her tail as he passed.
Seeker smirked as she padded after them and she slowed when she was in pace with her brother and they began to pester each other. Levi would sove himself against his dragon sister and shed whap him with her wing or tail. Occasionally she would walk ahead of him and she would sweep her tail under him causing him to cry out as he fell.
In exchange every once and awhile Levi would try to pounce on her to get a free ride causing her to buck and rear like a horse. The walk was made enjoyable for both by their antics for they had hours of walking to do. Eventually Levi grew tired and his sister took one for the team and she let him sit on her back as she walked the rest of the way to their destination.
It was odd in her opinion to carry someone on her back, his weight was unsettling at first but after an hour she started to get used to the feeling and she guessed it would be best to get used to it now before they started flying together.
She was drawn from her thoughts as they broke from the trees and they were greeted by the smell of salt and water in the air. Seeker grew wide eyed as she stared out towards the ocean from the massive cliff they were now standing upon.
She felt Levi hop off and she glanced at Small Bite who was standing at the edge of the cliff and she approached cautiously. "I have to fly here?" she asked the small Terror in fear and he gave her an afermitive squawk.
"All hatchlings take first flight here" he said as he took to the air and turned back to Seeker telling her that he wanted her to follow.
Taking in a big gulp of air she took a few paces back before she closed her eyes and ran forward. She felt the earth disappear from onder her and she felt the feeling of dropping and the wind whipping past her. Suddenly she snapped her eyes open and her wings caught the air and she was no longer falling.
Unlike the waterfall she wasn't gliding, she was flying. Her wings pumped and her tail shifted as she urged herself up and she began to climb in hight. It was slow and nowhere near perfect but she knew that would come with practice, though for know she just wanted to enjoy the sky.
She let out a happy thundering roar as she leveled off before she did a few circles. For each circle she did she grew faster and tighter in her movements and when she completed a small and fast circle in the air she tucked her wings to her side and dived.
As she dropped she stopped thinking of flying and she let her instinct guide her where she wanted to go and that was down. She shot downwards at an alarming speed before she slowly started opening her wings and she started to tild out of her dive. Her wings opened slowly and she found herself flying just above the ocean.
She closed her eyes in bliss as the ocean sprayed her underside with water before she began to climb upwards rapidly as she beat her wings. When she was high enough she turned and raced towards the island where her brother was watching her with amazement.
Seeker shot past her brother as she flew inland and she began taking in the island they had been calling home the past few days. She started to slow her flight as she took everything in.
The island was small in size and it was all cliffs and sea stacks, but for one beach to the west where the land steeped down towards the sea. On the far north of the island was a small mountain and to the east was a field full of flowers she didn't recognize.
The rest of the island really didn't pop out to Seeker so she started to turn back but something caught her eye. She decided to fly down to inspect the light that she had seen and she dropped down into the forest. When she landed she could see signs of battle.
The ground was scorched in many places and there were claw marks everywhere. As she looked her eyes caught something shiny and she peered over some bushes to find sharp metal spikes sticking from the ground. She immediately recognised the spines of a Razorwhip.
Carefully Seeker picked the spine up with her mouth being extra aware of the sharp edges of the metal spine. The spine she knew would be of great use to her brother as a weapon and a tool. With that in mind she glanced around to see if she could find any more.
She saw another not too far off and she went to retrieve it as well but she halted in her step as something else caught her eye. Not far behind the spine was the carcass of a Razorwhip and it was no dout the source but what she was more concerned about was that the carcass was hanging out of a giant trap.
The trap reminded her of a large bear trap but this one had giant meatal teeth that could pierce the hide of a dragon. From the signs of things the Razorwhip was in a battle with another dragon before it fell into the dragon trap resulting in what she now saw before her.
Seeker gave a shudder and she grabbed the last spine with her paw, she then gave the dead dragon one last look before she jumped into the air and took flight for the second time in her life. But she was no longer cheerful, no she was quiet as she flew back to the cliff where her brother and Small Bite were waiting for her.
When the cliff came into view she slowly landed and dropped the two spines and Levi rushed over. "Wow aren't those Razorwhip spines?" the boy asked and Seeker gave him a nod before she turned her focus on Small Bite
"Found metal scale spikes, metal scale wing dead in hunter trap." she told the Terror and the little dragon immediatly brsitled at her words.
"Not good, only one metal scale wing on island, others hunted. Poor Silver Tongue now gone to." he said with obvious grief and Seeker didn't blame him.
The little dragon had already told her that there were few dragons left on the island because of the hunters. She gave Small Bite a concerned glance. "Hunters here, now?" she asked.
Small Bite shook his head, "I not know but can find out." he told her and she gave him a nod before she turned to her brother who was still inspecting the metal spines.
She gave a small chuff and he turned to her and she began to write, "Dead Razorwhip in dragon trap, hunters often here. Small Bite and I will look to see if they are here now"
"Alright, then I'll start making my way back to camp, if they are here we might want to hide the signs that we've been here" Levi said as he held the two spines against his chest and began walking down the river where they had traveled along.
Seeker gave a huff and bound in front of him and stopping him in his tracks, she then crouched low to the ground. Her brother seemed to understand and he carefully climbed onto her back.
Seeker glanced at him as he held onto one of the scales of her mane before she started to run and with a jump she was in the air. Already she could feel the difference with her brother on her back compared to flying without a passenger but she knew she wouldn't have him on her for long.
With a flap of her wings she flew above the tree line along with Small Bite as they made their way across the island where their camp was. They covered a few miles in a matter of minutes and when they came to the waterfall she landed to let her brother off.
"You guys go, i'll start cleaning up." he told her before he turned tail and ran towards camp. With that both dragons once again took flight, heading towards the west side of the island.
