"How is she?" Ella ran into the waiting room, Maze close behind her, to where Linda and Amenadiel were sitting in the chairs by her room door. Charlie was fast asleep in the baby carrier. The scientist looked into the room and sew Dan comforting his worried child next to an empty bed. "No!" Ella mind went to the worst possible scenario. "Did she…?"

"She fine. They took her up to surgery not too long ago." Linda informed the two worried women.

"Thank God." Ella sighed with relief, she walked into the chairs across from the couple and plopped down.

"Where's Lucifer?" Maze asked as she looked around the almost empty waiting room.

"I thought he was with you guys?" The angel asked. His brow furrowed with concern for his brother.

"He was but then he just took off." Ella looked up at Maze. "We assumed he came here."

"Typical." The demon spat, still angry with the devil. "Always leaving."

"Maze." Linda gently scolded the woman.

"What? That idiot should be here." Maze scoffed. "We're all here. But that stupid devil loves her. That's why he's back from Hell isn't it? So, he should be here"

"She's right. I'll go find." Amenadiel sighed and started to stand up but Linda held him back with her hand.

"No. We need to give him space. I'm sure he will come around." Linda being the voice of reason noticed that everyone was on edge, except for Ella who was nodding off in the chair. "Now, it's late and we all need some rest. I already had my rest. So, I will stay tonight. And I promise to keep you updated."

"Fine." The all said in unison.

Lucifer landed on his balcony, the same spot where he had last seen her. The real her. "Please don't go. I... I love you. I love you. Please don't leave." He was trying to convince himself that it wasn't going to be the last time her saw her. The last time he would touched her soft sink. The last time he kissed her soft lips. But when he heard the panic in Daniel's voice his hope started to slip away. She was slipping away from him. Leaning back onto the glass barrier, he felt a weight sitting on his chest. Eyes caught his reflection in the window, not being able to stand sight of himself he turned around. His hands had a firm grip on the railing. His eyes looked to the heavens in frustration.

"You cruel manipulative bastard. How could you do this to me? I went back, didn't I? Without complaint. I did everything I was supposed to do. For thousands of years I did my job perfectly. What more do you want from me?" Lucifer paused, waiting for a response he knew that he was never going to get back. "Was this part of the plan all along? Play with my emotions, watch me fall in love. Then take it all way. Just like that. She doesn't deserve any of this."

Deep down he knew that his Father wasn't responsible for any of it. Just like he was not responsible for the evil choices the humans make. However, at this moment, he just wanted someone to blame. He knew that the real bastard was still out there. He longed for retribution, but he didn't know how to continue. Didn't know where to look next. He would have to wait till morning. Wait for Ella to have some insight.

After a long night at the hospital and no sign of the devil, Linda decided to pay him a visit. She could already hear the sad melody playing before the elevator doors even opened. She stepped out and saw the back of her friend in his red robe as he played the piano. Hair a disheveled mess. On top of the piano was two bottles of whisky. One empty and the other just a few inches left. By his bare feet where a few more empty bottles. Her eye examined the rest of the room. It was dark, despite it being morning. The curtains were drawn closed. The tall glass table was knocked over and shattered all over the floor. There was a hole in the wall by his bedroom and his discarded clothing scattered on the floor.

"Oh dear." She muttered to herself. She had seen the man in a bad state before, but this destruction was at a whole different level. She gathered that his time in Hell did not help the situation at all. Knowing that time was different there but she was not sure how long it was for him.

"Lucifer?" The woman softly called out, stepping around the broken glass and around the piano to face the man. Eyes red from lack of sleep. A cigarette hanging out of his mouth. She waited for him to stop playing. She knew he saw her there, but he ignored her and continued playing. "I just wanted to check on you." She spoke loud enough for him to hear. "I tried calling you, but I realized since you returned your phone must…" She stopped when she saw the phone sitting on the piano. "I know this must be hard for you. Maze told me…".

"I told you I don't want to talk about it." Lucifer stopped playing, he discarded the cigarette in the ashtray that was already filled with half smoked butts. The devil grabbed the almost empty bottle as he stood up. He took a swig and finished the contents. His feet shuffled through the broken glass to the bar. The man examined his liquor collection before plucking another bottle.

"That's fine. I'll talk." The doctor's voice was gentle. She watched as the man stumble across the room, robe opened, his front fully exposed. "Do you mind putting on pants?" She asked, he eyes looking upward.

"Why? It's nothing you haven't seen before." The man scoffed with a cheeky smile.

"Please." The woman insisted. Lucifer reluctantly picked up the pants that were thrown on the stairs. "Thank you." She added as he pulled them up but didn't bother to zip them. The man dropped down into his chair and took a sip from the fresh bottle.

"I thought you should know that Chloe is in the clear, for now." She was expecting to see some sort of relief from the devil, but he stared blankly in the distance slouched in the chair. Linda walked over to the couch across from the devil and was about to sit down when she saw the glimmer of glass shards. The women gently swept them off the floor with her purse before sitting down on the edge. "Lucifer, if the doctors didn't know what they were looking for it would have been too late. You saved her life." The man avoided looking in her direction.

"I can't imagine what it would been like to watch it all happen before you and not to be able to do anything about it." Still no reaction from the Lord of Hell, his eyes was on the bottle as his fingers picked at the label. "When we see someone, we care about, go through a traumatic experience, having their mortality threaten. It can leave us feeling powerless." The woman paused for a moment searching for her next words. "Sometimes we don't know how to respond, and often we find ways to distract ourselves. Searching for something that resembles control to avoiding what is really happening."

"I know very well what is happening, Doctor." The man finally spoke up.

"Lucifer, if anything where to happen, if Chloe does…" The woman had a hard time saying the word herself. She notice the man looking at her for the first time with a hurtful glare. "I'm worried that you will regret not being at her bedside. And it will haunt you for the rest of your days, which for you is a very long time."

"I can't." Lucifer voice cracked as he attempted to control his emotions, but it was too hard.

"Why not?" The woman voice was sympatric.

"My last memory can't be h…" His eye glossed over. "Her slipping away from me." The man took a swig from the bottle, still in his hand. "It's bad enough, that the last time I saw her, I left her. I abandoned her. How I can I sit there and watch her…?" His eyes closed for a moment. "I can't do it."

"Assume she does wake up. Your face could be the first she sees." The woman was trying to instill hope in the hopeless man. "You wouldn't want to miss that, would you?"

"If she does." Lucifer let out a huff of disbelief. He glanced over to his phone that vibrated on the piano. He quickly stood up to snatch the phone.

"Lucifer, we need too…" She started but stopped when she was being ignored, the man being distracted by the phone.

"Sorry, doctor. Miss Lopez beckons. We have murderous sniper to catch." Lucifer gave the woman a fake smile.

"Lucifer, finding him won't change what has happened." Linda warned him, though she knew it would be useless.

"Oh yes it will." The man's eye wide, almost manic. "There will be one less killer on the streets. Now if you excuse me, I need a shower." The devil made his way to the bedroom and disappeared behind the stone wall.

"Somethings never change." The tired woman scoffed to herself before she stood up to leave.
