Chapter 2 — NEW YEARS EVE

LIMA, OHIO

As Kurt was coming down to breakfast, he was met with the sounds of singing coming from the kitchen. When he got to the doorway he stopped and watched his twin sister, Mel Hope Hummel, dancing and singing as she cooked breakfast. A smile grew on his face as he watched her. She looked so happy, after everything she had been through lately she deserved to be happy.

Not able to resist, Kurt joined in the song and dance. Mel was surprised to see her twin but just smiled and continued singing until the song was over. Her cheeks were pink from dancing and she was out of breath but nothing could get rid of the smile permanently placed on her face.

"Good morning big brother! I thought I was by myself this morning, as mom and dad are at work, I automatically thought you would have stayed over at Blaine's last night." Mel said sweetly as she dished up their breakfast and set it on the table. "You want juice or milk?"

Her enthusiasm made Kurt grin as he replied. "No he is picking me up later for Rachel's party. I will take milk please. You are are in a good mood! May I ask the reason?"

"Kurt I have something to tell you. You know Blaine's cousin Shea?" she asked and Kurt nodded. "She and I are best friends and have been hanging out a lot over the last year. She makes me so happy and we have helped each other through a lot. Over the last year I have discovered that I have fallen in love with her. I know I have never officially came out, well actually I guess I just did to you but I like girls. I asked Shea earlier this year if she would be my girlfriend and she said yes."

Getting up to hug his sister, Kurt said,"I am so proud that you found someone to love. I am so glad you are happy Mel. You deserve it. I was wondering about you and Shea for a while but I never asked because it's your news to tell when you were ready. I love you sis! Are you two doing anything tonight for New Years?"

"Yeah we are actually. I'm going over to her house and we are going to binge watch our favorite movies. I can't wait! I'm getting all glowy aren't I? I tend to do that when I talk about her or am around her." Mel asked grinning like a woman in love. Which to be fair she was. "There is something I want to tell you."

"What's up sis? I hope its not bad news. I have put a block on all bad news for a long time. I think we had enough of it in the last few years don't you?" Kurt said thinking back to the events that caused Mel to change schools and the health scare that their dad had gone though with his heart.

Taking his hand, Mel smiled and nodded her agreement. "No nothing bad I promise you. It's actually a good thing. I think that I have found my person and my soulmate in Shea. I can't picture myself with anyone but her and when I first met her it was like I had known her forever."

Smiling and taking a drink, Kurt said, "I know what that is like. I felt the same with Blaine when I first met him. For me it was love at first sight. As you recall after I met him I couldn't stop talking about him."

Mel laughed at that last part, "Yeah you were all about Blaine all day and all night but I didn't mind because I knew you loved him. I was actually jealous of you because I hadn't found love yet. Can I ask was I like that regarding Shea?" Mel said hiding her face behind a napkin as it went three shades of red.

Laughing and lowering the napkin so he could look in his twin's eyes, Kurt replied, 'Yeah but I didn't mind either because I could tell you were developing feeling for her. You are my twin after all. Do you want to watch movies and relax until we have to meet our loves later?"

As she finished her eggs she nodded, "That sounds perfect."

A short time later, Kurt was giving his outfit for the night a final once over, before declaring he was happy with it. His hair was styled to perfection and even he had to admit he looked good. As he looked in the mirror, he studied his reflection and he realized something that made him smile. Looking back at him was a strong, confident young man who was in love and could do anything.

As he was heading downstairs to wait for Blaine, the doorbell rang. With a huge smile on his face, Kurt answered the door. When he saw Blaine his heart skipped a beat.

"Hey you." Kurt said breathless as he ushered Blaine inside."You look very handsome. I suddenly feel underdressed."

Grabbing his hand so he could not go change for, what Blaine assumed would be the millionth time, "Hey. You look perfect and very hot!" Blaine could not resist and leaned into kiss him. Kurt melted into the kiss, slowly deepening it. They explored each other's mouths and sighed contentedly when the kiss ended.

"I love you so much, beautiful boy." Kurt said trying to catch his breath.

"I love you too, my angel. You ready to go to the party." Blaine winked and took his love's hand as they headed to the car.

On the way to the party the boys sang their favorite songs, at the top of their lungs. They were both happy and in love. Nothing was going to ruin this night for them. This night was going to be the perfect New Year's Eve!

When they got to Rachel's house and went down to the party is when all heck broke loose. She was happy to see Kurt but when she saw Blaine she started in on a rant that was legendary even for her.

"How dare you bring the competition to my party! Are you crazy?! He could take our set list to the Warblers! I thought we were best friends. I thought you had my back and were still loyal to the New Directions even though you are going to Dalton!" Rachel screeched.

"Rachel do everyone a favor and shut up! Do you have any idea how stupid you sound right now? Blaine is my BOYFRIEND and I invited him to come with me as my date. Yes he is a Warbler but I hate to break this to you hobbit but this is NOT a glee club meeting or practice! Blaine has every right to be here!" Kurt yelled and then grinned an evil grin as he told her news that obviously she didn't know yet. "Oh and by the way Rachel we are not best friends. You told everyone that to prove that you care for another person other than yourself and Finn. You are so self centered it's unreal. I know you follow what happens in other clubs or as you call them competition, but you obviously missed this bit of news. I am also a Warbler! What do you have to say to that?!"

Rachel was shellshocked that someone would speak like that to her. "How dare you talk to me like that in my own home. Consider our friendship over. I don't need people who bring me down. Finn please back me up on this."

Finn, who was talking to Puck about plays for the upcoming game, looked at Rachel and said, "I agree with Kurt. I would back you up but this is your mess so you clean it up." Turning back to Puck, they resumed their conversation as though they were never interrupted.

"Wow, Rachel even your boyfriend wont come to your defense. You must feel really bad right now. I hope you can find it in your tiny, microscopic, and cold heart to apologize to me and Blaine. But I doubt it given your track record dealing with people." Kurt said still very much upset.

Blaine came up after that exchange was over, and grabbed Kurt's hand as he said. "Rachel, I don't know you that well. At this point I am really glad I don't. But let me assure you that Kurt talks about the new directions all the time. As for the Warblers, we don't want your set list. We are going to beat you fair and square. You might resort to that type of thing but that is not how the Warblers roll."

"Hey Blaine can we get out of here? I don't want to be at a party where we are being accused of things that we would never do. Happy New Year everyone, please understand why we are leaving. Finn thank you for backing us up on this. You are a great brother!" Kurt said as they left before Rachel kicked them out.

After driving for about twenty minutes, the boys come across a park and decide to take a walk. At this point they are both calmed down a great deal and are focused on each other. They stop at a fountain and look lovingly into each other's eyes. This is how they wanted to ring in the new year, just the two of them.

"I am so sorry Rachel was like that. I don't understand why she did that. Correction I do know why. " Kurt said hugging Blaine tight.

"Let's not worry about her right now my love. It's almost midnight and I am with the most beautiful and amazing guy in all of Ohio. I love this guy with all of my heart and want to be with him for the rest of my life. "Blaine said kissing Kurt softly.

"Lucky guy! Do I know him? He seems like a catch." Kurt said with a grin, unable to resist flirting with Blaine. "As it turns out I am here with the most handsome and romantic guy I have ever met. I love you so much my beautiful boy!"

"I love you to so much my lovely angel. This is going to be our year. I just know it!" Blaine said kissing his love passionately. During the kiss a light snow started to fall and the clock in the town square chimed midnight.

Kurt and Blaine kissed until the chimes stopped. "Happy New Year my love! This is so romantic. Kissing you at midnight in a snowfall." Kurt said out of breath and leaning his head against Blaine's forehead.

"Happy new year to you as well my angel. I couldn't have asked for a better setting for ringing in the new year than here with you." Blaine replied holding Kurt tight. "Let's go get some hot chocolate and go watch our movie marathon. Sound good?"

Letting out a contented sigh, Kurt nodded. "It sounds like heaven."

The night was a rollercoaster ride but it ended up amazing! Which proved that the boys were meant to be together. Love always finds a way to make a situation better. When they got to Kurt's house, and had put the movies in the DVD player, the two lovebirds cuddled. They watched the movies with thoughts of what the next year was to bring for them. It was the prefect way to ring in the new year. It was so full of promise!
