July 2nd 1994, 12 Grimmauld Place, London, England:
Sirius' smile stretched across his face for miles, "I goddamn knew it moony, you got James' mirror from Godric's Hollow! How long have you had it?"
Lupin chuckled, "I went and got it as soon as I heard you had broken out, I needed to contact you somehow. I called the mirror every night for weeks, how come you've only got it now."
Sirius instantly felt happy at his friend trying to reach out, "Well that's quite a complicated story, in fact you may end up thinking I'm an idiot."
Sirius turned and looked at Harry who was lying back on the bed looking smug, his eyes warning Sirius to not blame him for this.
Remus Said, "Your always being an idiot Padfoot"
Sirius remarked, "Well, that's great, so you will fully expect everything I've done, and won't have a problem with it!"
Remus replied, "That is not what I said", quickly trying to backtrack.
The sarcasm in Sirius tone increased, "I mean who would have a problem with me kidnaping Harry from the Dursley's, against Dumbledore's will and running away to my old childhood home whilst hatching plans, that person would have to be insane!"
There was a moment of tension between the occupants of 12 Grimauld Place and Remus Lupin, the silence holding for a few moments.
"Hey uhh, Remus this is the bit where you scream and shout at me for doing something reckless, compare my intelligence to that of a dog, or something like that."
The mirror stayed silent for a bit longer. Sirius began to shift a little uncomfortably.
Lupin sighed, "Sirius, you've disappointed me "Sirius jumped to explained himself, but Lupin kept talking, "- I was fully expecting you to have run the ministry and curse the lot of them for locking you up. This is quite tame in comparison to what you normally do."
Harry burst out into laughter, although Sirius wasn't anywhere near as amused. He waved a hand at Harry brushing him of, sarcastically saying, "Oh yeah bet your enjoying this, wait till Remus hears the plan that you agreed on." Harry, who couldn't talk through his amusement just shrugged his shoulders.
Lupin charmed in, "I wasn't aware you could come up with plans on your own"
Sirius turned back to the mirror, "You know what, screw the both of you."
Remus, unlike harry who was now laughing even harder, was managing to hold a straight face. "Hey, you told me to insult your intelligence and I did"
By now Sirius was smiling as well, "Since when did you listen to what I tell you to do?"
Lupin shrugged his shoulders, "Anyway what Is this supposed plan you have."
"Oh yeah! That's why I called the mirror, we need your help with our plan, how quickly can you get to Grimauld Place?"
"Couple of minutes, I'm fairly close to London I'll be able to apparate over, will you explain things if I come?"
"Of course, just get yourself over here quickly"
Lupin smiled, "Already on it"
And with that the mirrors disconnected from each other, Harry shifted over to where Sirius was sat and asked, "Will professor Lupin hate our plan then?" Sirius overdramatically shuddered after Harry spoke.
"Please never call him professor Lupin, the mere thought of a marauder being a professor absolutely chills me" Harry snickered.
"I mean he was my professor"
Sirius shook his head, "Don't remind me, how on earth he was persuaded into that, or that McGonagall didn't throw a fit at the thought of it is a Miracle." Harry kept laughing at Sirius' feigned annoyance.
Harry asked, "So will he like the plan?"
"Sirius shrugged, "If I frame it as us pranking the whole country by showing up at the ministry, then He'll definitely by onboard, the harder question is whether he will be able to help us, I have a feeling he must know somebody, and if not, we'll resort to contacting Augusta Longbottom."
Harry nodded his head in agreement, but before he could say anymore there was a knock at the door. Both Sirius and Harry got up to go and answer it, but before they could even open the door of Sirius' room, they heard the front door open itself. Sirius called down, "Remus, come on upstairs." There was a moment of silence as the door was closed. The voice which travelled back up to them was an unexpected one.
The voice of Professor Dumbledore said, "Ah, I'm afraid to disappoint you Sirius but I am not Remus Lupin, although it is good to know that the two of you will be sticking together still." Harry turned and looked at Sirius panicked; Dumbledore had made sure every summer that he stayed with the Dursley's for a little whilst, and this time he had left near instantly. He would only need one guess as to why he was here.
He felt his whole body go tense, surely Professor Dumbledore wouldn't make him return to the Dursley's, especially when Sirius had already taken him away, he couldn't live there with the knowledge that his Godfather was out there, wiling to take him in, but just out of reach.
Harry and Sirius began to walk out of the room and downstairs, which gave Harry his first chance to look around 12 Grimauld Place, the door opposite Sirius' room had a sign pinned onto it, it read, "Do Not enter without the express permission of Regulus Arcturus Black, the floors and walls of the house were covered in dirt and other messes, with cobwebs hanging in the corners of the ceiling. Sirius was carefully looking all over the house as if expecting something to jump out and attack them out of nowhere.
Walking down the stairs Harry had to stop himself from throwing up as he saw heads of deceases house elves hanging on the wall, he couldn't help but compare them to the over eager dobby, it would devastate Harry to see the sweet elf's head hanging in a place like this.
They had passed through various flaws of the house, which caused Harry to realize that the house was much bigger than he had first thought, on most of the hallways of the home there were picture frames, but all of them were empty, Harry could only assume that they were ancestors of Sirius' and had long abandoned there frames here as no one appeared to of occupied the house for a long time.
After a few moments they came to the entrance hall, which somehow managed to be in a worse state than the rest of the house, there were gas lamps stuck all along the walls that flickered small amounts of light into the room as they appeared to be ready to go out at any moment, the blackened carpet had been worn so thin that it might as well not be there, as the felt padding underneath was seen everywhere.
Unlike the rest of the portraits in the house there was one that was occupied, Harry noted that Sirius looked at it with distaste, the woman sat in It was asleep, yet still sat with her back straightened, Harry thought that the woman looked a lot like Draco's mother, aside the brown hair with a few grey streaks the woman had, there were also wrinkles under her eyes, which all made her look much older than Narcissa Malfoy.
Harry made sure to place himself behind Sirius, trying to hide a little from the gaze of his headmaster.
Sirius was incredibly nervous as he walked into the entrance hall, he could see that the normal sparkle and happiness in Dumbledore's eyes was missing, he looked as though he didn't come to deliver good news, he gave a sharp nodded and acknowledged him, "Professor Dumbledore".
Dumbledore slowly nodded back, "Sirius, I am gal to see you are safe", the headmaster shifted his gaze over to Harry, "And you to Harry, it appears you have managed to come out of this year unscathed." Harry tried to give a small smile back, but as he did his smile shook, making his worry, clear to Dumbledore.
Sirius was quick to ask, "How did you know I was here."
Dumbledore gave a small smile and shrugged his shoulders, "I knew that you had taken Harry from Number 4 Privet Drive, I believed that you would take him somewhere safe, and where better than your old home, a location very few know of."
Sirius sighed, "It was never home to me, that title will always belong to Potter Manor." He said smiling down at Harry, "Now the two of us are going to be very busy over the next few days, so what brings you to me?" Sirius asked, trying to sound as calm as possible
However, Sirius already knew what Dumbledore was going to ask of him, he quickly began thinking of a way to ensure he could keep Harry away from the Dursley's, ideally without causing an argument with Dumbledore, it would do him no good if he fell out with the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.
Dumbledore stared into Sirius' eyes through his half-moon spectacles, "I have to ask for Harry to return to his aunt and Uncle, he is far safer there then he is anywhere else, with Peter Pettigrew on the loose I'm afraid it is more important than ever."
Sirius took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, but I can't let that happen."
Dumbledore however remained calm at the refusal, "You don't have much of a choice Sirius, what If you are caught and Harry is with you."
And it was at that moment that Remus decided to walk into the house, he still looked pale from his recent transformation. "Professor Dumbledore, I wasn't expecting to find you here."
Sirius glared at Dumbledore, "Neither were we."
Dumbledore chose to ignore Sirius' comment and replied to Remus, "Yes, yet again I feel as if my Summer is even busier than the school years themselves."
Sirius knew he needed to get Harry away, he was certain his Godson wouldn't appreciate his living conditions at the Dursley's being broadcast to everyone in the room, "Harry take Remus to my room upstairs will you, see if he recognises any of the names in the document." Remus raised an eyebrow towards Sirius, but as Harry had already turned and started walking up the stairs, he found himself with no other option than to follow, as he to walked through the decrepit Entrance Hall Sirius said to him, "Be careful, no one had lived in this house for years." Remus briefly nodded his head in acknowledgement
Sirius and Dumbledore stood in silence, as Sirius waited for the footsteps on the stairs to fall silent.
Sirius slowly walked over to Dumbledore and whispered to him, "Harry is not safe at the Dursley's, he isn't loved or cared for in the slightest, you have no right to tell him where he spends his summer Holiday."
Dumbledore whispered back, "Sirius, no death eater can come near Harry as long as stays at Privet Drive, they would have killed him long ago if it wasn't for the protections around Privet Drive."
Sirius spat back, "The Dursley's are more likely to kill him then the remaining Death Eaters at this rate."
Dumbledore tried to reason with him, "Your being overdramatic, surely you must agree Harry is better alive than dead, even if the consequences are extreme."
The venom in Sirius' voice rose, "You don't think I could keep Harry safe?"
Dumbledore tried to explain, "Sirius you have a history of being reckless and have spent years in Azkaban, you're not in the right condition to look after a teenager."
Sirius was getting incredibly annoyed at his old headmaster, he could only hope that Harry couldn't hear him as he was certainly not whispering any longer, "But I care, and that is far more than what can be said of him living anywhere else. I kept watch on him last summer to ensure his safety, despite the risk of getting caught by the dementor's. I broke into Hogwarts, just to see him play a game of quidditch, I care for him, and I'll make sure that no-one who doesn't care the same for him can get close to him. And if you keep going you won't be seeing him again."
Dumbledore winced at his comment, for a moment he looked as though he was going to keep pushing, he said "I know a lost cause when I see one Sirius, I suppose now I can only hope that you stay true to your word. I care very much about Young Harry, it pains me to leave him there, but it was for the best." Dumbledore turned and opened the door as Sirius held back a remark about Dumbledore not caring, Harry wouldn't want the two of them to fall out so instead, he stayed silent.
Just as Dumbledore closed the door he said to Sirius, "Good luck, if you're planning what I think you are then you will need it."
Sirius let out a small breath as Dumbledore left the house. He began to go to his room deep in thought, he knew that deep down Dumbledore did care about Harry, but the decision to leave him at the Dursley's made absolutely zero sense, He should have been moved away from there the second they showed signs of not caring for him. However, Albus Dumbledore was not an enemy that you wanted, he held power unrivalled by all expect the Minister of Magic, he was respected by the whole country, and was an incredibly powerful wizard.
And did Dumbledore really know what he was planning? There was no way that he could of found out, he had only told Harry moments before, there was a slim chance that he picked up from what he had told Moony, but he was deliberately vague in what he said.
As Sirius at last reached the top of the stairs, he could hear Remus say, "So his plan is for the two of you to take your seats on the Wizengamot." He chuckled a little, "I never thought I would see Sirius accept that role, he always hated how his family thought they were superior."
Sirius walked into the room and said, "Well, someone has to change the Black reputation, so can you help us?" Remus was sat with Harry on the bed, Moony looked deep in though as he looked up.
Remus smiled, it was a smile that Remus hadn't seen for years, he always looked the same when a prank had all come together perfectly. "I'm fairly good friends with one of the members of the Wizengamot, they've helped me an awful lot over the last 7 or 8 years, he would ensure I always had a job and enough money in exchange for informing him about attitudes in werewolf society and what he would want, he pushed through a change in laws which meant that I was able to get the job at Hogwarts, before it was illegal for a werewolf to work with children."
Sirius very much liked the sound of this person, anybody who was willing to help Moony sounded trustworthy enough to him, "So who is it." He asked
"Cyrus Greengrass, he was in the year above us at our school."
Sirius nodded remembering the person. He said, "The Ravenclaw right? With the messy blond hair?"
Lupin affirmed, "That's the one, pretty sure only James had messier hair in the whole school."
Sirius chuckled, "That's probably true, I think he was one of the few students who we never managed to prank, he figured us out a few to many times."
Remus smiled as he remembered there days in school, "He was always bragged about that, I think he was prouder of that then some of his OWLs
Sirius joked, "And that says a lot coming from a Ravenclaw, I'm assuming he as a family then, right?"
Harry mentioned, "There's a Daphne Greengrass in my year in Slytherin, I've never spoke to her, but she never seemed as bad as the rest of the Slytherins, she definitely doesn't hang out with Malfoy atleast. "
Remus nodded, "His wife is called Ellie Greengrass and they have another daughter who just finished her first year at Hogwarts, Astoria Greengrass."
Sirius asked, "Do you think you can arrange for them to meet with Harry."
Harry jumped up and said, "Wait! Are you not coming as well?"
Sirius shook his head, "Harry I can't come along, remember that the whole wizarding world thinks that I betrayed your parents, If I organize for them to meet with you first, you'll then have to find a way to explain my innocence with them."
Harry however looked horrified at the idea, "I can't go walk into this family that I know nothing about all by myself, it'll go horribly."
Remus looked to Harry, "Don't worry Harry I'll come with you, I'm sure he'll agree to it."
Harry appeared to be less worried as Remus said that. he offered, "You can use Hedwig to send him a letter if you want." Hedwig, who had mostly been asleep so far tweeted her approval at the idea of her being able to get out of here cage for something
Remus replied, "Thank you Harry, I will write the letter later and unless there is anything else we have to do, how would you like to hear some stories about your parents." Harry beamed at the idea, so Sirius and Lupin began to tell a story about attempting to prank his parents on one of there dates.
July 2nd 1994, Albania
Peter Pettigrew was shaking, as soon as he had escaped from the grasps of his old friends, he had fled the country, he was lucky to even be alive. When Moony and Padfoot had their wands pointed at him he was sure he was about to die, yet Harry Potter had stopped them. However, Peter was certain the death would have been better than Azkaban, he was terrified of death, it was why he had sided with the death eaters in the first place, they were killing people all the time, it wouldn't have been long till they got to him. So, he betrayed the only friends he had ever had in exchange for his life, and he had spent the rest of his life since that moment living in fear.
So why was Peter seeking out the Dark Lord? It was simple, his return was inevitable and if he didn't help him return then someone else would, and the punishment for Peter not doing it would be great, he simply didn't want to experience the kind of pain that the Dark Lord dished out to those who displeased him. He was currently scurrying around in his rat form in a forest in the depths of Albania, he had spoke to the other rats when he was running away and he had been warned that there was a shadow of a man who could possess animals in Albania, and he had killed many of there own kind. He had boldly assumed that it could be his Dark Lord, and if it wasn't then maybe it was someone else who would be able to protect him. He felt that he must be coming close to the location.
He was proved right by two snakes slithering up behind him, the one who's eyes were coloured a glowing deep red hissed at him, "Hello Peter Pettigrew, it is good to see that there are still some who are loyal to me."
He had found Lord Voldemort.
A/N: It's been a whilst since I wrote anything, life has been rather bust, so I'm sorry if there are mistakes in this. Hopefully I'll be able to post another chapter in a week or two.
