July 4th 1994, Greengrass Manor, Nottingham

It was the day after the alliance meeting and Sirius was yet again sat at the Greengrass' dining room table. He was slowly turning his wand between his fingers, his leg shaking. It was an incredibly important day, one that had to go well.

They were going for a miracle shot, it was improbable to even manage to get a trial, and next to impossible to even prove his innocence. They were about to try and deny what was believed for years, something that was backed by a street-full of eyewitnesses. They were even going to have to argue that a dead-man was actually alive. All in all, Sirius had been in much worse positions.

He wasn't scared of the Wizengamot, he wasn't scared of going back to Azkaban anymore. But he was terrified that if they failed then Harry would be sent back to the Dursley's, and Sirius would never see him again. That was what made it so important that they succeeded, he couldn't accept any other option.

He wasn't left alone with his thoughts for long, after a few minutes of idly sitting Cyrus walked in and took a seat next to him. He was wearing the same robes as yesterday, although his hair was now a mess. It was clear he was ready for the session at the Wizengamot that would be starting soon. Sirius was very cautious around the man, whilst he had been nothing but helpful, he felt that he must have an alternative motive for helping them. Although it was likely to be Cyrus banking on Sirius' political support. He couldn't shake the feeling the man was after something else.

Sirius however pushed those feelings down, he may slightly distrust the man, but he still desperately needs his support. "Thank you for letting us stay the night. Where we were staying before was just no longer safe."

Cyrus smiled at him, "No problem, No problem. You look nervous Lord Black, why is that?"

Sirius look over at him, "If we things don't go to plan, then Harry may well end up back at his relatives. I can't let that happen."

Cyrus raised an eyebrow, "How come?"

Sirius slowly replied, "His relatives hate wizards. They always have done. When I took him from their home it was clear he was not cared for, I strongly believed he was abused. However, I'm yet to bring up the issue with him."

Cyrus looked down at the floor and took a moment to respond, "Harry will talk about it when he is ready. However, if things don't go well today, which I doubt, but if it does then I promise you I will look after him, if I can, I will gain custody of him from his relatives and If I cannot, then he will always be welcome in our home. "

That pledge should have made Sirius trust Cyrus, that wasn't something to say lightly. But that feeling of Cyrus being after something else rose up in him again, why did he feel like this? He knew the answer before he even asked it of himself, Peter Pettigrew's betrayal had damaged Sirius' ability to trust someone new.

Sirius looked straight into Cyrus' eyes, as if trying to read whether he was lying. He asked, "Why would you do that? To what benefit would it be to you?"

The reply was short and simple, "There is no benefit to me, but every child has the right to enjoy their childhood. I fear Harry has had rather little opportunity to do that."

In that moment Sirius made a decision that his heart backed, but his mind hated. He was going to trust Cyrus. He slowly smiled, "In which case it's long overdue that you started calling me Sirius."

Cyrus smiled back at Sirius, "In which case Sirius, you better start preparing yourself for your trial."

Sirius asked, "You believe that you will get me the trial?"

Cyrus responded, "Of course I believe, you will never succeed if you don't believe in your own plan."

Sirius nodded in agreement with the slice of wisdom, however their conversation was not to last much longer, as Harry, Daphne, Astoria and Cyrus' wife, Emma entered the room. Harry was now dressed in a posh set of robes which belonged to Cyrus, but Emma had shrunk down to size. Changing the size of clothing wasn't permanent and wore down the fabric of the material it was on, but Harry couldn't turn up to the Wizengamot in his school robes.

Sirius stood up from his seat at the table and walked on over to Harry, placing his hand on Harry's shoulder he asked, "Are you ready Harry?"

Harry smirked and shook his head, "No, but I'm never ready for these things, so I'll be fine." Sirius laughed at Harry's sentiment, whilst they were yet to talk about Harry's adventures over the years, Sirius knew exactly what he meant. He had never been prepared for his adventures either.

Cyrus had also walked over to the group, he said to Harry, "There is nothing to worry about Harry, you won't have to say a word during the session if you don't want to."

Harry responded, "But everyone will want me to say something, and everyone will be looking at me."

Cyrus reassured him, "However that will only be temporary, by the end of the day Harry Potter showing up at the Wizengamot will be nothing but a footnote."

Emma had turned to Cyrus, "The session starts in 10 minutes dear; you need to be leaving."

Cyrus summoned his shoes and began tying his laces with his wand, "Yes, yes. Harry we will be using our floo to go straight to the bottom floor of the ministry, and be going straight to the Wizengamot chambers, hopefully not many people will see us."

Sirius thought for a moment before pulling out his wand, he said to Harry, "If you would like I can cast some enchantments on your face, it will change the way you look so that no one can recognise you."

Harry nodded his head, closing his eyes and waited until he felt his facial features shift, it felt as if someone was stirring his face, but oddly it didn't hurt at all, he opened his eyes to see the Sirius had already pulled out a mirror for him to see himself. He now had short dirty blond hair, and the scar from his forehead had completely disappeared, he was entirely unrecognisable as Harry Potter.

All harry could say was, "Wow" Sirius laughed at Harry's reaction to the transformation.

He said, "Human transfiguration is pretty cool, the enchantment wears of very quickly, but it'll be enough for you to get into the ministry."

Cyrus said, "In which case it is time for us to be going, follow me, Harry have you floo travelled before Harry nodded his head, remembering the mishap with the Weasleys the previous summer, "In which case the floo address is Ministry of Magic Floor 10." They had walked over to the fireplace within the living room, Cyrus picked up the pot of floo powder and offered it to Harry, "After you."

Harry took a pinch of the powder and thew it into the fireplace, shouting "Ministry of Magic Floor 10." He felt as if he was being squeezed into a sink's drain, he was spinning and the roaring in his ears was deafening. It felt like the feeling was dragging out, as if he was stuck in there for an hour. Eventually he tripped out of the floo and into the ministry of magic.

It looked as if he had walked into the middle of a dungeon, the walls were made from black stone and the floor was made from dark wooden planks. Every couple of meters there was a torch mounted to the wall. There were a few people who were all walking in an incredible rush to get somewhere, all of them were incredibly well dressed.

It only took a few seconds for Cyrus to walk out of the floo behind him, clearly, he had much more experience than Harry, as he walked out perfectly smoothly, "Good, nothing went wrong with the floo then, "Harry nodded his head, "Well in which case we should move ourselves over to the chamber, we have very little time until it starts."

They walked down the corridor, there footsteps echoing around the room. They passed a room which had the words courtroom ten written above it, and shortly after took a left turn. At the end of that hallway there were to wizards stood either side of a grand door. Cyrus turned to Harry and said, "Just ahead is the entrance to the Wizengamot, we're going to walk in and head straight to the back row. There are 10 seats back there and the one next to mine has a stag's head engraved above it, when you sit on the chair it'll change to something that represents you. At that point I will have to take the enchantments of your face, any questions?"

Harry replied, "Why is there a stag above the seat?"

Cyrus replied, "Like I said, the symbols represent the person who sits in it and the lasts person to sit in the Potter seat was your father. I don't know what the stag is meant to mean, but I'm sure Sirius does."

Harry quickly got excited, a huge smile shooting onto his face, he was about to sit in the Wizengamot seat which his father had used before him, it immediately clicked why he had a stag above the chair once he learned it belonged to his father.

Cyrus asked, "So you know what the stag means don't you?"

Harry nodded his head, "It was my father's Animagus form."

Cyrus Grinned, "Of course your father was an Animagus, I assume Sirius is to?" Harry sheepishly nodded his head, unsure whether he was meant to give away that secret. Cyrus chuckled, "Your father and his friends were truly brilliant wizards Harry." Cyrus flicked his wand to check the time, they had two minutes till the session started.

"Are you ready Harry?" Cyrus asked

Harry nodded his head and began to stand up straighter as they walked towards the chamber. It was time to get Sirius a trial.

Harry looked around the chamber that they had entered, it reminded him of a muggle courtroom, to his right was a stand, where in the middle sat Albus Dumbledore, who Harry made sure to avoid eye contact with, although he knew that as Chief Warlock, he would be leading the meeting. To the left of Dumbledore sat Minister fudge and his three fellow ministry representatives, and to the right was an elderly man who had an official looking book in front of him. To Harry's left were the seats for the members of the Wizengamot. Just as Cyrus said there were 10 at the back which were on a platform higher than any of the other seats. Behind each one was a stone plaque which held a symbol, Harry spotted the stag on the left-hand side, with a rose and crow either side of it. Infront of the Ancient house seats there were 2 rows of ten seats, however they looked nowhere near as nice as the ones behind.

Above them were stands for members of the public, where nearly every seat was filled to see the outcome of the boy-who-lived being missing. Harry could spot reporters with quills out already scribbling down notes for the session.

Cyrus led Harry over to the seats at the back, he looked up at the plaque above him and slowly turned to the seat, by now many people in the chamber were looking over to the strange boy who was trying to take a seat in the chamber. He sat down in the seat, keeping his eyes focused on the plaque above the chair rather than the people in the room. The stag engraved into the stone disappeared and morphed into a small lightning bolt.

Cyrus had sat in the seat to Harry's left, with the Flower above it. Harry could see from where he was sat that the only empty seat in the whole room was the one to his right, with the crow above it. He could only assume that it was the seat which belonged to the Black's

Sitting in the seat had drawn lots of eyes onto him, people were whispering and pointing at him, the heads of houses sat around him were all turning and looking at him, completely shocked. Cyrus flicked his wand at Harry's face, and the fake features which decorated his face before melted away, his lightning scar came into view. It took people a few moments to recognise him as Harry Potter, but as soon as they did chaos broke out.

The reporters were scribbling furiously, there cameras flashing down on him. Members of the Wizengamot were shouting, Minister Fudge looked shocked. Members of Cyrus' alliance were pretending to be surprised, but there was one man in the room who didn't look shocked at all. Albus Dumbledore.

After a few moments of chaos, he had raised his wand and fired small but loud explosions out the end of his wand. He cast an amplifying charm on himself and shouted, "Silence!" The chamber quickly fell from the chaos and shouting to quiet whispers. "Lord Potter if you would follow me for a moment, please."

Harry looked over to Cyrus who nodded for him to follow. Harry's mind was cast back to the day that Dumbledore had come the Grimauld Place and tried to get Harry to return to the Dursley's, was he going to try the same now? Was he going to stop there attempt to get Sirius a trial? He had absolutely no idea.

Dumbledore had taken him just outside the doors to the Wizengamot chamber, the wizards which had been standing outside now went in and closed the doors. Leaving Harry and Dumbledore to have a one-on-one conversation.

Dumbledore asked, "Do you have a plan to get Sirius a plan then, Harry?" Harry looked at Dumbledore, unsure what to tell him. However, he saw Dumbledore looking incredibly happy, and had the ever-familiar twinkle in his eyes. Harry shrugged his shoulders, "Maybe."

Dumbledore sighed, "I expected as much, clearly you have recruited the help of Lord Greengrass, and potentially his allies to." Dumbledore looked down at Harry as if he was evaluating exactly what to say to him. "I find myself being astonished by you Harry, and the effect you have on those around you. Because of that I believe I should tell you something, however you must promise to hear me out fully."

Harry muttered, "I promise.", he had no idea where the headmaster was going with this.

Dumbledore continued, "I was the one who told Minister Fudge that you had been kidnapped, "Harry felt a rush of anger surge through him, he went to have a go at the headmaster before he said, "Your promise Harry, remember." Which momentarily put Harry's verbal assault to rest. "I knew that the Minister would call this emergency meeting, and I desperately hoped that you and Sirius would have a plan for this meeting, one to get Sirius his deserved trial after all these years. And my hopes were proved right, so I have a simple question for you Harry. How may I help you?"

Harry retorted, "You could have helped by leaving us to ourselves, and not telling the Minister of Magic anything."

Dumbledore looked a little taken aback at the comment, this kind of anger was something he hadn't seen from Harry before. Dumbledore responded, "Unfortunately that isn't something we can change now Harry. I am on your side here Harry, even if you may think my methods aren't beneficial. So, I am asking you again, how can I help you?"

Harry wanted nothing more than to tell the headmaster nothing and leave, this was the man who had forced him to return the Dursley's every year and the one time he's had a way out tried to steal it from him and send him straight back. However, he knew making an enemy out of Dumbledore was stupid and unnecessary, so he calmly responded, "The plan was for Cyrus to explain everything, he's the one with the plan. So, I suppose the only thing you can help with is to let him speak."

Dumbledore nodded his head in response, "I can certainly do that, now let us return to the chamber. I think we have an audience rather eager to find out what is going on."

With a flick of his wand Dumbledore opened the doors, and the noise from the chamber flooded out into the corridor. It was clear the discussion became rampant again as soon as the two left. Harry returned up to his seat and sat next to Cyrus, but before he got a chance to say a word to him Dumbledore had sent explosions from his wand yet again. Bringing the chamber to silence as everyone awaited an explanation for what was going on.

Dumbledore said, "Lord Greengrass, I'm told that you can explain everything, so the floor is yours."

Cyrus nodded his head and stood up, "Ladies and Gentlemen it was only a few days ago when that we were all shocked at the news that Harry Potter was taken from the custody of his muggle relatives by the mass-murderer Sirius Black. However, when none other Harry himself came to my home with an old friend of mine I knew that some of the news must have been wrong."

Everyone in the chamber had their eyes glued to Cyrus, hanging onto his every word. "You see, Harry was not kidnapped. He wilfully left with Sirius Black, he wasn't confounded or imperiused. He went with Sirius because he knew something that we the British Public didn't, that Sirius Black is innocent."

There were murmurs swept around the room at the idea of Sirius being innocent. Some people questioning whether Cyrus himself was sane. "It seems insane that something we have known to be true for years is simply incorrect. But I have seen evidence from Harry himself, he shown me a memory which has confirmed to me that Sirius Black is innocent."

Cyrus was receiving sceptical looks form all over the room, he knew that now was the time to pull the card that would get Sirius the trial he deserved. "Most of you will refuse to believe these claims because of the simple idea that if he was innocent then we would have found out when he was tried and thrown into Azkaban, surely, we would of known. As everyone in this chamber will know it is one of your rights as a wizard in this country to receive a trial, but Sirius Black was never given his trial."

The looks in the room began to shift from doubt to sheer confusion. "I do not know how anyone can be sent to Azkaban without a trial but if we do not give one to Sirius Black then we set a scary precedent that anyone can be thrown away to Azkaban without a chance to defend themselves."

At the end of Cyrus' speech Dumbledore stood back up, "We are to assume then that you can confirm all of this Mr Potter?" Harry felt everyone turn and look at him again, rather than speaking he just nodded his head in confirmation.

Dumbledore said, "Very well, in which case I open the floor to discuss whether we should give Sirius Black his trial."

The first person to stand up and start talking was none other than Lucius Malfoy, Harry knew that he was going to be the one who opposed the idea the most. Sirius had told him that if he was sent back to Azkaban, upon his death Draco would become Lord Black as the next male in the Black Family. Harry had to stop himself from shuddering at the horror of his school nemesis becoming one of the most powerful people in the Wizengamot with two titles.

Lucius said, "As noble as the cause of giving everyone a trial is, Sirius Black is no ordinary person. He is dangerous. I refuse to believe that he is innocent, the idea completely falls under any level of scrutiny and Lord Greengrass is yet to provide any evidence backing up his claim. If we were to bring Sirius Black into the ministry of magic in custody just think about the damage he could do, the Minister decided long ago that he was too dangerous to even try to put in Azkaban and should be given the Dementor's kiss on sight. Nearly everyone in this room voted in favour of the kiss on sight order and it would be hypocritical of this chamber to go back on it."

Harry knew that the plan at this point was for Lord Fenwick to corroborate what Cyrus had said, pointing out that Sirius was yet to cause harm to someone since escaping, in attempt to bait Fudge into talking about that night from Harry's third year. However, they were all surprised when Amelia Bones stood up and started talking, Harry knew that what she was about to say would be very influential in which way the members would vote.

"As the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement I have spent the best part of a year trying to catch Sirius Black, and it was just yesterday that we came the closest we ever have as one of our aurors managed to get into the place which he was staying." Harry internally panicked at the mention of the auror getting in, it was not a good look if it's revealed they attacked her. "She was quickly defeated in a fight, but she was left in the house completely unharmed as they abandoned the place shortly after. She also noted that Lord Potter was listening to the order of Sirius Black, she thought it would have been the imperius curse or something similar but claimed to not see any signs of something like that. I couldn't believe are luck that Sirius black had spared her, but perhaps it was not luck. "

Harry's panic quickly died down and a small smile cracked onto his lips, it looked like things were going to go there way. "A week ago the thought of giving Sirius Black a trial would horror me, but now I doubt that the image of a ruthless killer who betrayed his friends holds much truth, the person we have depicted would of killed an Auror without hesitation and yet they are unharmed. I agree that as a citizen of Magical Britain he has a right to a trial, and we would be failing our duties as members of the Wizengamot if we didn't give it to him."

Harry looked at Cyrus who was now grinning, they both knew that the unexpected speech was going to be a turning point for there case. However they couldn't celebrate for long as Minister Fudge stood up to talk.

"I would like to reiterate what Lord Malfoy has said about the hypocrisy of the chamber considering this, but I would also like to point out that we are going to give someone like Black a trial because he didn't kill just one auror! We have literally no valid evidence of his innocence and mountains of evidence for his guilt. It would be a waste of everybody here's valuable time. We cann-"

Dumbledore had interrupted him, "It would also be a waste of our time debating whether to give him a trial, if it was my decision to make then there would be no hesitation for me to give a trial to Sirius Black, but since clearly there are members in this session who feel differently, I will put it to a vote."

There were murmurs in the top public layer yet again as Dumbledore interrupted the minister, however another wand blast from Dumbledore put them to silence. "So who doesn't want to give Sirius Black a trial."

Harry winced as lots of wands around the room went up, however he couldn't get a count on them quick enough before Dumbledore called, "And those who want to give Sirius Black a trial." Harry quickly lit his wand and held it firmly up in the air, he knew that it was going to be a close vote, it looked as if both sides had around the same numbers."

A few seconds after everyone lowered their wands, Harry could see the clerk next to Dumbledore was scribbling down the votes and calculating which side had more. It took a few seconds, but he eventually stood out and said in a dull voice, "Out of the 95 votes cast it was decided that Sirius Black will be given a trial by 49 for to 46 against." Harry had to stop himself celebrating in the middle of the chamber and it looked like Cyrus was having to do the same, however Cyrus quietly high fived him. Harry looked around the chamber to see that Fudge was furious and Lucius Malfoy was looking less than pleased.

The public tier descended into chaos as the reporters began to snap pictures of the chamber yet again, some enchanted quills writing down the events entirely by themselves. It took Dumbledore 5 minutes to calm the chamber back down.

The session dragged out from there as lots of small matters were discussed, but Harry had completely blanked out of most of it and didn't have to vote on anything. He couldn't quite believe that they had done it.

It didn't occur to him at the time that if he himself hadn't of voted then Sirius wouldn't have gotten a trial.

A/N: Originally Harry's symbol was going to be the deathly hallows, but it's far to early into the story to be introducing them.
