Ch. 6
Hermione and Lyra had just managed to get everything they needed into Hermione's small beaded purse. When they started to feel the beginning of the room being charged. Like someone would feel before a lightning storm.
"Lyra?"
"I feel it too."
Albus Dumbledore smirked from his painting. It was enough for two girls to feel uncomfortable. Seeing the twinkle of his in painted form. It was just unnatural.
Hermione matched up to the headmaster. "What do you know?"
Albus shrugged, "I don't have the foggiest."
"We all know that is bull, Albus. Everyone knew that you seemed to have a ear in the school."
"Yes, ear." Albus smirked, while giving Hermione a glare. "Tell me, if I had an ear. How have I done it?"
Hermione seemed to be lost for words or nothing came to mind. "The paintings," answered Lyra.
"What?" Hermione turned to look towards her cousin.
"Think about it. What is around the castle? The paintings. They don't stay in their frames all day. They must come here to tell the headmaster of what's going on."
Hermione then turned to the other passed headmasters and headmistresses. "Do any one of you know what's going on?" All the paintings shook their heads negative.
Lyra shivered where she stood. "Why does it feel like it's magic in nature. It doesn't feel anything close to natural."
Albus signed, "The castle had warned that something was going to happen…" His eyes turned to the girls. "If one or both of you find yourselves in...a different time. You must prevent all that's known to happen to be changed. Nothing should be as it was…"
Hermione growled, nearly pulling her hair out. "Can you stop being so cryptic!"
Lyra looked worried. "This a time storm?"
"No," Sirius Black's ancestor, Phineas Nigellus Black spoke up. "It's a Soulmate finding storm."
"WHAT," the two yelled.
Phineas huffed from his painting. "Oh really? Don't girls try to find magic dealing with soulmates. I know it was during my time. Since everyone wanted to find their forever love…"
Hermione glared at the man. "Did your wife do that?"
He shook his head. "Her father forbidden it. Saying it would cause great pain by knowing. But I had wished Orion would have. Then Sirius wouldn't be so rebellious."
"AH," screamed Lyra. "What's going on?"
"It's not just one of you. But both of you have soulmates on the other side." Ablus shook his head. "One of the things you grabbed is a letter to me. Give it to me, when you see me." It was the only warning they had, before being sucked in.
Hermione and Lyra tried to hold onto one another. Only to be pushed away. Being tossed and turned, before hitting the ground hard.
Hermione felt the hard ground, digging into her back. Letting a whispered groan to escape her lips. Before feeling someone's knees hitting the ground next to her head. Her eyes were closed, "Dumbledore?"
"Shhh," a whispered voice sounded. "Just keep breathing, love. You had a hard fall. Moony, get help!"
She knew that voice, causing her to cry in frustration. When the pain wouldn't allow her to open her eyes. She felt her hand raised off the ground. Just as she felt his hand wrapped around hers. Feeling the familiar zing of their magics meeting. After over a year of his death.
"Sirius," she gasped out.
"Yes, love," the voice sounded surprised. "What's your name?"
"Hermione." After a moment of just breathing. Just remembered that wasn't the only traveler. "Lyra!"
"Here," gasped her cousin a few feet from them.
"How is she, Snape?" Hearing that Sirius held back any edginess from his tone.
"Breathing," hearing the dull baritone of what sounded, a younger voice of her potions professor.
A raspy cough sounded. "Just the wind being knock out of me," stated Lyra harshly. "Who called me here?"
"Severus Snape," the voice next to Lyra answered. "Didn't mean to cause you pain?"
"It is what it is." She heard her cousin groan. "Help me to sit up, please. It's hard for me to breath, lying down."
It was then she felt Sirius helping her to sit up, as well. "Thank you," she mumbled. Feeling her back resting on his chest. Where she opened her eyes, to see a girl her age with flowing red hair and green eyes.
"Hi, I'm Lily," she smiled tightly. "Sorry if we caused you pain."
Hermione smirked as she couldn't help herself. "Do you ever know magical travel not be to so bumpy?"
Lily smiled warmly, "You're right on that one. Some days I miss the simple muggle travel…"
Lyra gave her a glare, from the corner of Hermione's vision. "Not to push our luck or anything. But what are we to do now?"
"Let's get you to the Hospital Wing for starters." Causing Hermione to tear up, seeing the headmaster alive. "Then we'll talk about what to do next."
Lily and Sirius helped Hermione, Severus and Regulus helped Lyra. While everyone else followed after them. It was a little struggle but managed to get there safely.
Poppy Pomfrey tisked at the groups. Nearly believing that Hermione and Lyra were part of the two groups pranking wars. "Now that I think about it. I don't remember seeing either of you before."
Before anyone answered, Hermione fished out a letter for Albus Dumbledore to read. He scanned over the letter for a moment. "Yes, I nearly forgotten, these two are my adopted granddaughters. Hermione and Lyra Dumbledore."
"Granddaughters Albus," the nurse asked in disbelief.
"Yes," the headmaster nodded. "Sadly they came with an emergency portkey. Due to their parents' untimely death…"
Poppy nodded, "Well, they suffered from crashing from travel. I'll give them a pepperup, and they'll be good as new."
After they took their potions. The group followed Headmaster Dumbledore up to his office. Where everyone was spread out from one another. With a wave of his wand. Everyone sat around the fireplace.
Albus looked at his 1976 students. "Now, tell me why you're all out past curfew?"
It was then that Sirius explained how he had gotten Lily to help with a project. Where Lily jumped in on finding a soulmate potion. Leading off where she had given Severus Snape half of it, for his added help.
Albus' eyes sparkled in delight. Before Hermione finished everything off with, "In 1996, we barely finished our sixth year. After witnessing your death, sir." Causing the man's eyes to become hollowed.
"I see," he turned to Hermione with sorrow in his eyes. "Do you know how to stop Tom Riddle?"
Causing all but two others to look lost. "Yes," Hermione spoke with determination in her voice.
"Tom Riddle, sir," asked James Potter.
Dumbledore waved for the new girls to explain. Only for, Hermione gave Lyra the go ahead. "The so-called leader of the Death Eaters, Lord Voldemort."
Severus and Regulus hissed, "Don't say his name!" While the other students shivered in their seats.
Albus shook his head. "Giving Tom that much power, just fearing his self-proclaimed name." He shook his head. "And he isn't even a pureblood that he makes himself out to be…"
"What do you mean," asked Regulus. Looking to be in between, interested that turned into disgust with what he would find out.
"He's only half blood," Lyra spoke with little interest in her voice. Shrugging her shoulders. "His mother died before he was given to the orphanage. When he found his father, only to speak that he wasn't himself when he was with the mother. Only to cause Tom to kill him and his family."
"LYRA," cried Hermione. "You don't just spill everything out like that!"
She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm an American, we don't like beating around the bush. Just say it and go on already." Hermione gave her a hard glare. "What, should I have waiting for tea and crumpets?"
Remus sighed as he sat back in his seat. "Since you're from 1996. Do either of you know any of us?"
"I do," spoke Hermione with a kind smile on her lips. She pointed towards Lily and James, "You're my best friend's parents. Even though he or I had ever met you."
"WHAT," the two cried out. James leaned forwards. "What do you mean, neither of you had met us?"
"You see...you died when he was one year old. Protecting him from Lord Voldemort," replied Hermione with sadness in her voice. She then pointed towards Sirius, "You're my friend's Godfather."
Sirius smiled, "Of course I am! Does he get to live with me, and we have all the fun in the world?!"
"No," Hermione allowed a tear to fall from her eye. "You were wrongly carted to Azkaban, for killing the Potters." She saw the spark of his happiness, leaving his eyes. Making her sad for the man. "Only to die by his cousin." Tears falling down her face.
Remus spoke up, sounding defeated. "Me?"
Hermione smiled, "Our third year DADA teacher. The best teacher we had ever had," she smiled at him.
"Even with…?"
"Yes," stated Hermione with a bright smile. Causing Remus to fall back into his chair with a daze. She then looked towards Severus Snape. "My potions' professor," she pointed towards him.
A smug smirk came across his thin lips. "Indeed." Sounded off with his one word exclamation.
Then finally she stopped at Regulus. "R.A.B. The one who tried to stop his Dark Lord. Only to die, before finding that lord's death."
Lyra saw Sirius' jaw clenched at his brother's demise. She then turned towards Severus to see his eyes closed, in despair. Knowing that he and Regulus were friends.
Lily turned to the headmaster. "So what are we to do now?"
He glanced towards the time travelers. "First, I want a Wand Oath from each of you. We must keep their time traveling a secret. As well as, who is whose soulmate. We wouldn't want Tom knowing such things."
"Then I request that none of you tell Pettigrew," stated Hermione with fire in her eyes.
"Why," asked James with sadness in his eyes.
"He is a Death Eater," stated Hermione, Severus and Regulus in a reunion.
"What," gasped Remus. He looked equal parts hurt and fearful.
"Malfoy had brought him to Riddle this summer," growled Severus in hatred. "Stated that Riddle needed a spy within the light."
Albus nodded, "Not a bad move," he grumbled softly.
"No," Lyra spoke up. When Hermione looked torned about wanting to yell at the headmaster. "You have us. We know how to destroy him. That should be enough."
"Yes." He glanced at the others, barking for them to get on their feet. Ordering for the Wand Oaths from each of them. Once done, he turned to the new girls. "How?"
"Horcruxes," they answered. Causing the two to hold onto each other. Feeling the potions hardly holding on.
Albus grumbled after hearing their answer. Then waved his hand to the sorting hat. Where it floated to Hermione's head. "Gryffindor!" Then went to Lyra, where it took a bit longer. Before "Gryffindor," was yelled again.
"I think bed is in order," Albus calmly advised the group. "Your beds will be added to your dorm room, before you get there." Then with all his students a good night.
