Driven by Challenges
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 15
After lunch, Lily dragged the girls back to the Gryffindor Common Room. Leading off to the side. "What was important that you had to hide in the library?"
Hermione fished out her wand and gave them a window of privacy. "We have a plan to stop Voldemort. But we can't have the others know about it."
Lily nodded her head, as her green eyes gave a determined look. "I want to help."
Hermione sighed, but look towards Lyra. Where Lily saw the worry in their eyes.
"I have every right to fight him too. He wouldn't stop killing anyone, who doesn't view to be in this world," she had gone on.
Lyra sighed, "Winter break, we will meet up at your house. After grandfather shows us where we live." She glanced out the window. "We'll put up the wards for your home. Then we will tell you, before you decide."
"But," Lily tried to but in.
"Not a moment sooner," growled Hermione. "It really isn't safe to talk about this. Not even at Hogwarts."
It was then that Lily realized something. She was focused on her schoolwork. Only to forget that they came from 1996. A time that they knew nothing but the evil in the world.
"How bad was it," asked Lily in disbelief. "Other than Harry living without…us."
Hermione had taken a deep breath. "Ever since Harry was eleven, he had faced Voldemort a handful of times. Only for me to ask, how can he be alive?"
Lily gasp, "Why did you say anything sooner?"
"No offense, but those boys would jump in and get themselves killed. Before I even catch them up to 1996." Hermione shook her head. "Nope, not allowing them to help."
Lily giggled, "Yeah, best to not say anything to them." She nodded her head. "Agreed, I will wait until break. But not a moment later."
"Good thing it's October," stated Lyra. "We should read up on what wards to use."
Hermione groaned, "I already have a book for that." She turned to Lily. "You might not like it. But it is very strong and will keep your family safe."
Lily blinked at her. "No matter how bad it is, it couldn't be anything worse than worry about my family to get themselves killed."
She was hard set on it. She was willing to do anything for her family. Even her heartless of a sister. 'I don't know where we went wrong? I just want her to love me again.'
"Blood wards," stated Hermione.
Lily gaped at her. "Isn't blood magic dark?"
Hermione nodded, "It depends on the intent of it. Are you using it to control someone, then yes it is dark. But are you using it to keep your family safe, then it isn't." She gave a kind smile. "I had my own grievances with it, myself."
"What changed your mind," asked Lily. She could see a hint of mixed emotions in Hermione's eyes.
"Someone had argued until I had to listen. Before giving me the book that I have." Hermione grabbed Lily's hand. "Believe me, I am quite stubborn, but he was rarely right. So after I read the book, I learned magic was not all black and white. But how the person uses it for."
Lily felt uneasy hearing this. Back when Severus Snape and her were good friends. He had even voiced this exact thing to her. Only for her to argue that the killing curse could never be good.
Only to remember him say, "What if someone were on the verge of death, while they suffered in great pain. Would using the killing curse aid their suffering, or allow them to suffer? While they wait for death, what would be easy on your concuss?"
Lily didn't have the answer. She was too caring to voice what she should do. She didn't want someone to suffer in pain as they awaited death. But killing someone was still bad.
"As long as we are not killing anyone. I don't care what we have to do, to keep my family safe," stated Lily.
Hermione nodded her head. "We have options at least. Let me read up about these again and over the next coming weekend, we will discuss them."
"Thank you, Hermione."
She then lowered the spells that she had in place. Only to be faced with the boys of Gryffindor.
"Hello, love," smirked Sirius. "Were you talking about us? You really don't need the privacy wards for that." He then wrapped his arm around Hermione.
She rolled her eyes. "And give you a big head. I don't think your ego can handle that."
Lily saw the dejected look from James. As he tried to move closer to her. She let out a sigh and grabbed his arm. Leading him out of the common room. She knew that it was time to face the storm.
Once she found a corner, she pushed him near a window and glared at him. She knew that it was high time to get him to listen. At least, she hoped that he would.
"Lily flower…"
"No," she growled out. "You will listen and you will listen well! My name is Lily and if you want me to think about dating you, that is the name you should use! Not Evans or Lily flower! Not above all else, don't make a show of it!"
"Wha…what do you mean?"
Lily glared, "I don't like you asking me in front of the school. I don't like how you bullied my friend, in order to talk to me! I am not a showy person. When you do it, it only shows me that you're nothing more than a showman!" Tears leaked out of her eyes.
"I hate not knowing if you mean things, James! I never know, not when you have to show off. That's not me! So, please stop." She cried some more.
"Why didn't you say anything," asked James in a soft voice.
"I have, by not excepting anything from you." Her voice sounded tired. She leaned back against a wall. "I just hoped that you would grow up to realize that."
James walked closer to her and hugged her close. "I should have listened to Remus, but I was too full of myself to care. Thinking my way would get you, in time. I guess me being from a noble house couldn't tempt you with the gifts that I had given you?"
She shook her head and gave off a sad sounding laugh. "Money doesn't mean anything to me. Only your actions and yours were terrible."
James sighed, "I'm sorry, Lily. But seeing you mad, just stirs me. I just love the fire in your eyes. It tells me how passionate you can be."
He took a deep breath, after seeing that she couldn't believe him. "Okay, I guess I can be outrageous about my feelings. But in all honesty, Lily, you didn't make it easy for me, either. But I do hear you."
James gave her a kind smile. "Hi, I am James Potter and I would like to go out with you."
Lily couldn't help but giggle at him. "Hello, I am Lily Evans and I will think about it."
"You'll think about it," he asked with glee in his eyes. "I'll take it." His lips pulled into a full on smile.
"Prangs," she heard Sirius Black from down the hall. "Where are you?!"
James turned towards Lily with a hurtful look. She pushed him towards Sirius. "Go, be with your friends."
"But…?"
Lily smiled softly, "We are in our sixth year. We have time."
James smiled, "Yeah…time." Then he ran off, after Sirius had called again.
'What have I agreed to?' Then she walked back to the common room.
