aliceinwhumperland's Whump Words of the Day: "Okay, but... There's a hole IN you. It can't wait till later."

The building coming down was only the icing on the cake that had been this rescue. That said building also contained his eldest brother was just the cherry on the top.

Thankfully, Scott had been almost at the point of egress when the building decided it had stood long enough, so digging him out didn't take long.

That was their only piece of good news.

Building rubble was never kind to the body, and this particular building was no different. Virgil cursed when uncovering his brother, for this was not just a straight-forward rescue. Big Brother couldn't just have a normal wound. No, he has to be different. For sticking out of Scott's shoulder was a piece of rebar.

Blue eyes stared into his, slightly glazed in probably pain or shock – or both. Virgil smiled while checking out his shoulder. Thankfully the rebar didn't go all the way through, which meant that Virgil could remove it and patch his brother up once he'd got him to Two.

'Virgil?'

'Hey, Scott. You with me?'

'Always.'

'Good. I'm going to get you onto a stretcher and into Two…'

'No! No, Virgil. We got a rescue to finish.'

'We? No, no, Scott. Gordon and I. You are not going anywhere.'

'No, Virgil. I got people to rescue. Patching me up can wait.'

'Okay, but…there's a hole IN you. It CAN'T wait until later.'

'M'Fine, Virgil!'

Virgil sighed. Out of Scott's vision Gordon's arm waved at him and he stifled a grin. 'Right. Scott, I'm going to just laser the rebar off and get you on the stretcher.' Scott nodded absentmindedly; as Virgil suspected the shock was setting in and he wasn't really paying attention, which worked to their advantage.

The end of the rebar removed, and Scott sitting on the stretcher, Virgil accepted the syringe from Gordon and held it up for Scott to see. 'A little pain relief, Scott?'

'Mmm,' was the reply, convincing Virgil that he was doing the right thing, and he injected the sedative. He held his brother carefully as Scott succumbed to the drug, then he and Gordon carried him to Two.

'What's the betting he will complain about missing the rest of the rescue when he wakes up?'

'No bet there, Gordon. That's a given.'
