Onereyofstarlight asked for a random playlist fic with Kayo:

Song: 'Hit The Road, Jack', cover by Becca Krueger.

It had taken Tanusha Kyrano more years than she will ever admit to realise that the relationship just wasn't working.

Her father had warned her but he respected that even at a young age she had been strong enough to know her own mind.

'He's not good for you, Tin-Tin,' he'd say.

Jeff Tracy, the man she loved like a second father, he had made some casual remarks, but he too respected that she knew her own mind.

'I'm not to sure that it's a good idea to spend time with him, Tan,' Jeff would say.

But she hadn't realised how treacherous the bond of love could be.

Kayo had a stubborn streak that could rival Scott's, and it wasn't that she didn't know – she was well aware that the man was party to some pretty shady deals, and as she grew up that knowledge became more detailed than ever – it wasn't that at all.

'But I love him, Ayah.'

'And he loves me, Jeff.'

'He'd never do anything to hurt me.'

It didn't make the bad things he did alright, though, and deep down Kayo knew that one day he would go too far.

And then one day he did.

She couldn't exactly put her finger on what he did that tipped the balance for her. Maybe it was just one plot too many, one hurt party too many. Maybe it was because she was a fully grown woman and head of security for International Rescue, an organisation that had born the brunt of his machinations.

Maybe she'd grown weary of lying to herself.

The next time he called she steeled her heart. This wasn't going to be easy but it was about time.

'Tanusha, my dear. How are you?'

'I am very well, thank you.'

'Are you? You don't look happy, my dear. I wish you'd give up that position and come and work for me.'

'I'm sorry, Uncle. That's never going to happen. I think it's best that you don't contact me again.'

'My dear, you don't mean that.'

'I do. I don't want to hear from you again. Don't you come back no more.'

'You're abandoning me, your flesh and blood, to take side with Tracy and his infuriating brood?'

'No, Uncle. I'm leaving you because you are a bad man.'

'You'll regret this, Kayo. Family should come first.'

'I am putting my family first. Don't contact me again.'

'Very well, I will respect your wishes. But don't think that this comes without consequences.'

He disappeared and she sat there, staring at where his hologram had been. Yes, he was an evil man with terrible schemes, but he was her uncle and he'd shown her nothing but love.

A gentle hand on her shoulder gave her strength, and her Ayah placed a cup of green tea with mint in front of her.

'I am so very proud of you, daughter,' was all he said, but it was enough to make her feel better.

Six days later Jeff Tracy was lost in the explosion of the Zero-X.
