I received more attention from this story than I thought I would, and decided to continue it.

P.S. I wrote this entire thing on a trip to Kansas from California.

CHAPTER TWO/AN UNFAMILIAR SITUATION

It was cold. That was the first overall sensation that his shock rattled mind ended up focusing on. It was hard, something underneath him unkind to him and his situation, not allowing him a comfortable rest. Darkness was what filled his head, and as he slowly woke it began to clear.

His eyes opened slowly, unnaturally. It felt wrong, it all did. Something wasn't right, something was.. off. The first sight that greeted him was the cold iron bars of a jail cell. That wasn't right, that couldn't be right.

He blinked again, the feeling completely unnatural, unfamiliar to him. He tried to sit up, only to fall over. He tried moving his arms to brush against his face, only to freeze at a strange sensation. His arms, they were soft. No, not soft, they were covered in fur! His eyes widened in shock as he stood up. His body, his entire body was completely covered in fur. His legs, his torso, his head, his paws?!

Wait? Paws..?

''Wha- What is happening..?'' He silently asked in shock, the edges of restrained panic starting to set in. He glanced down to a small puddle in front of him, his reflection staring back at him. But all he saw, was a beast looking right back at him, sharp eyes blue as the ocean.

He tried to calm himself, taking breaths to attempt to slow his rapidly beating heart. He looked down to himself and turned back, thick powerful legs connected to his furry behind, a strong tail hanging low to the ground. This was unbelievable! It didn't make sense.

He looked up quickly, suddenly feeling small. He was caged in, alone it the dark, surrounded by dark dank walls, in a body that didn't belong. He needed to escape! He must! He tried to run, only to trip over himself in his haste. When he tried to move again, he came to the realization that he was chained to the ground. He pulled against the chain with all his might, but the thing did not give. When that failed he began to try and break the chain with his newfound razor sharp teeth, but after a few minutes of struggling, he realized that this cell was probably meant for something much stronger them him.

With that thought he fell back to the ground, all his strength suddenly rushing away as reality began to set in. He only had about a minute to sit there alone when suddenly his newfound wolf ears perked up, the sound of something moving within the halls reaching him. His eyes glanced up, spotting the form of an imp standing on the other side of the cell. He watched her silently, not moving and unsure as to what to do. He felt a shiver of something run down from the nape of his neck to the fluff of his butt as the imp smiled a wide unnerving grin. He had yet to determine wether the feeling was fear, or something else.

Then suddenly the imp girl jumped, flying into the air and fazing through the cell bars, before landing in front of him with her hands on her hips.

"I found you!" She exclaimed with a grin that carried the same level of energy as before. She leaned forward, and he found himself backing away with a viscous growl. "Oooh! Aren't you scary!" She gushed mockingly, as if he were the most adorable creature she had ever seen. Then she giggled, the sound oddly unnerving and pleasant to his ears.

"Are you sure you really want to be doing that?" She said, suddenly serious. When his growling didn't relent, she continued. "Well that's just too bad..." Now she sounded let down, as if he had disappointed her. "I was planning on helping you... But since you clearly don't want to play nice, I guess I'll just leave..." She admitted with a shrug of her shoulders, before turning to leave.

Link's eyes widened as he stopped growling, hoping that the imp actually was there to help. A wide victorious grin formed on her face, not that he was aware of though. She turned to face him with a laugh. "My my, that's much better! You lightworlders are obedient to a fault, aren't you?" She exclaimed with a grin. She leaned down in front of him, that smile turning wicked. "Oh you poor thing, you're not even that anymore, are you?" She mocked, tapping the underside of his chin.

He found himself growling again, and against his better judgement he lunged at her with a bite. The imp seemed to know that was going to happen, and deftly dodged him with another laugh. "Now now, who's a bad little Wolfy! No biting!" She giggled, raising her dainty little hand to her lips. "Now be a good boy and sit still!" She ordered seriously, though that smile had yet to leave her lips. He found it hard to deny her order, and stood as still as he could.

The imp brought her hands together in concentration, summoning a sharp orb of magic, before firing it at the chain that held him. Like a hot knife through butter, the chain was split in half. Her aim could've been better though, seeing as the single iron cuff and a few big chains still stuck to his left wrist. But he found himself without complaint within her sight. He raised his paw to his muzzle, examining the cuff with a grunt.

"Come now Wolfy. We've gotta get you out of here!" She said with a grin, before fazing back through the cell bars. "Don't make me do everything for you!" She accused with a playful frown.

He furrowed his brows in thought, giving his cell a once over. There was a pile of box's in the corner, and upon further examination it was reveled that there was a hole in the cage. Perhaps that was the reason he was chained to the floor as well. He bent down low, belly to the cold hard ground as he crawled through the hole. Emerging on the other side he shook his body of the dirt he was covered in.

He looked up, and found that the imp had disappeared. Suddenly her giggling could be heard echoing around the room. Suddenly she appeared above him, and planted herself on his back. He jumped in shock and barked as he tried to shake her off. But the little imp was stronger then she looked, and used her thighs to hold herself in place on him. "Hmph! You're not as stupid as I thought." She exclaimed smugly, grabbing ahold of his ears and pulling back hard. He stopped sharply whining at the pain.

"Listen, I like you Wolfy, so I think I'll help you escape." She said with smile, the hold on his ears still hard. Then smile turned manipulative. "In exchange however, you're going to do exactly as I say!" The way she said that left no room for argument, and he found himself lowering his head in submission. Her smile turned downright joyous, as she leaned down and practically hugged him from behind. "That's a good boy! Now go! Your master commands you!" She giggled, pointing at the tunnels dramatically. He growled from underneath her, but didn't have the energy to fight her. So he found himself complying with her orders...

An hour had passed since his Master had freed him from his prison cell, and in that time he had found himself wandering through the dark and wet tunnels underground. He had no idea where he was or what was happening, but one thing was for sure. He definitely almost immediately came to hate the feeling of his 'fur' being soaked. Everything felt mushy, and he felt weighed down. But that wasn't the main problem.

No. The tunnels were filled with these evil little black tentacle creatures that apparently had too much of an interest in him and his companion to be safe. He often found himself ripping them apart with his razor sharp teeth at the imp's command. She absolutely refused to let them get near her, made him make sure that any that got too close were dealt with.

That being said, it left a nasty taste in his mouth every time. Who knew, little tentacle monsters did not taste good. Information he filed away for later.

He had come across multiple different balls of blue fire in the tunnels, and upon closer inspection revealed them to be Hylians. Hylian guards. But something was wrong with them. They seemed to made out of whispy blue fire, as if they had lost their physical bodies. Whats worse, was that they couldn't even see him. But if he focused hard enough he could see and hear them. He looked up to his companion for an answer, but she simply said that she'd explain later.

Eventually, after trudging through the tunnels for an hour he finally found an exit. It was a massive double door framing the brick walls. After finding a way to open it, harder said then done, he ran through, only to stop when he reached the outside. He didn't know where he was, but what he saw was not what he was expecting, to say the least. Tall towers surrounded him on three sides, strong winds blowing across the grand walls that connected them together. Below him were the tiled roofs of massive rooms and halls, all partially hidden by an impenetrable fog that permeated throughout the area. It doubled as breathtaking and at the same time impossible.

"Ahhh... Finally made it out." The imp muttered, stretching across his back with a yawn. She glanced up to the darkened orange colored skies, a smile adorning her face. "Ah, the twilight looks beautiful this time of day, don't you think?" She stated with a pleased smile, relishing the feeling of it shining down on her. She glanced down to him. "You still don't know where we are, huh?" She asked, as if it were obvious. He turned to look up at her, the confusion clear as day on his muzzle. She sighed, shaking her head.

"Of course you don't..." She grumbled, patting his head mockingly. He growled back in response, before he found his ears pulled back again. That shut him up quickly. "No, bad Wolfy! You don't growl at your master!" She scolded, smiling as he whined. "Now come along, I've someone I want you to meet." She ordered, letting his ears go. He shook his head, trying to alleviate some of the pain in his ears, before marching onward. He would've said something to her by now, but he couldn't really talk as a wolf. Plus, as much as he hated to admit it, she did rescue him, so he did technically owe her.

He marched onward, a little awkwardly, still learning how to use his new four legged furry body. It wasn't as hard as it probably should have been, that much he was thankful for at least. There was a strong wind that was blowing, threatening to knock him over. But he powered through it, and made it to the other side of the massive walkway. Pushing open the second set of massive doors, he found himself inside the second tower. There was a stairwell spinning upwards, leading to a set of large ornate iron doors, and one of them was cracked open.

At the prompt of his companion, he pushed through the opening, the door squealing as it opened. The room was dark, the only light coming from the large window at the other side. He could see a figure kneeling down by the window, and assumed it was another tentacle beast. He growled in warning, only to stop in shock when the figure turned around to face him. It was a Hylian woman, that much he could tell. And she wasn't affected by whatever affected all the other Hylians as well. He slowly approached her, stoping only a few feet away. Ignoring him, the woman focused on his companion, singling her out.

"Midna!?" The woman asked in shock, addressing the imp directly. Link turned back to look at the imp, Midna, that was her name. At least he knew that now.

Midna giggled into her dainty hand, leveling a look at the woman. "Ah, I'm honored! You remembered my name!" She responded sarcastically. Link turned back to the other woman as she bent down in front of him, raising her hand to his chin. She gently moved his head around, inspecting him. Link didn't growl or fight her, relishing in the soft comforting touch that she offered compared to Midna.

"Fascinating... So this is who you were searching for all this time.." The woman muttered to herself, locking her eyes with Midna's for but a moment. The imp seemed to think on what she said, with a playful thinking pose.

"He's not exactly what I wanted, but he'll have to do I guess..." Midna admitted with a shrug. Link turned to her with the start of another growl, only to yelp in shock as she flicked him on the nose. "Bad boy!" Midna scolded again, frowning down at him. He quickly turned away, feeling humiliated. The woman turned a hard glare to the imp, before her gaze softened as she gently grasped him by the chin.

"You were imprisoned." She wasn't asking. "I'm sorry." She knew it wasn't much, but she wanted him to understand that it wasn't her fault. Not entirely anyway.

"Yes, sad life. Poor thing has no idea where he's at or what's going on." Midna commented, patting him on the head. He didn't bark back this time. "I think you should explain what's happening to him, you owe him that at least." She said. "Eh Princess..?"

The woman looked away for a moment, before facing them. "Listen, I don't have much time left. The guards will be back within minutes. But at least let me try and make this clear to you." Link found himself quietly focusing on the woman's face, listening. "This land used to be the goddess blessed land of Hyrule. But.." She stopped for a moment, looking away. "It has sense been transformed into a dark and twisted version off its former self, ruled by beasts of evil."

She went on to explain how the king of darkness had come to Hyrule to take over, and how his forces quickly overpowered the princess and her knights. She was given the option of life in a world covered in all consuming twilight, or a quick and painful death. The princess decided it was better for her people to live in darkness, then for them to all die. At least that way they still had a chance to fight back, as futile as it seemed. Without the light, the people were turned into spirit like creatures. And if the twilight were to stay, there was a very high chance that they'd all fade away into obscurity eventually.

They needed a Hero, like in the legends. A Hero that would appear in the time of need. But that hadn't happened yet, and they felt as if there really wasn't a Hero that would save them. Some held out hope, but many had given up. To be honest, the princess herself wasn't too sure that any help was coming.

"Even now, with the kingdom coming to ruin, I remain its princess..." She admitted, turning to face him. His eyes widened in shock as the woman reached up to take off her cloak, revealing a beautiful face adorned with a crown. "My name is Zelda." His maw fell open with shock, before he clumsily tried to bow his head in respect. Behind him Midna snickered.

"You don't have to look so sad." Midna stated with a smile. "I mean, is perpetual twilight so bad? It's rather lovely this time of the year." She giggled. Zelda leveled her with a hard look.

"Midna, this is no time to play around. The shadow beasts have been looking for you. Why is this?" Zelda responded, questioning the imp. Midna for her part turned away with a frown, ignoring the question. The conversation was interrupted by the sound of a door opening close by. "Forget it. Time's run short. The guards are doing rounds, you must leave quickly." She urged, before opening the window behind her. Link looked back to Midna for direction. The response he got was a slap to the butt, he jumped in shock before throwing her a glare. But he jumped out of the window anyway, landing on the hard ground far below. He hit the ground with a painful thud, slipping on the wet stone, before standing back up with a whine.

"You understand where you are now?" She asked, not really expecting an answer. "I can take you back to where you are from now... but do you really want to go?" She said with that unnerving grin of hers. Link felt himself suddenly unsure. She was offering to let him go, but why? "Aren't you forgetting something? Something important?" She hinted. When he didn't respond, she grinned. Then suddenly she cast an illusion around herself, and Link was forced to remember.

The kids! Collin! Beth, Malo, Talo! ... Illia! He had to save them! The monsters had taken them somewhere! Who know, they might've even been-!? No! He couldn't think like that! They were out there somewhere, they had to be! He looked around, lost as to how he would even begin to search for them. He was starting to panic again, when suddenly he felt Midna press into his back from above. She leaned in close, her lips only an inch from his ear.

"You want to save them." She stated with a breathy voice, her breath tickling the fur of his ears. "I can help you, but..." There she stopped, shushing him softly as he whined. "Only if you obey my every command." He shivered under her, her other hand combing through his messy fur soothingly, making his mind go blank. "You know that you can't do this alone." She said, grinning as his will weakened under her ministrations. "You need me." She practically had him by the balls at this point, and she knew it.

He did need her. He knew it now. What were the chances that he could simultaneously track down all the others, save them, and not get killed the process? Very low. That and they were probably affected by this twilight the same as everyone else in Hyrule. So he needed to stop that threat too.

No. Too much. He was just a wolf, what could he do by himself? Fight the forces of darkness alone. He wouldn't even know how to begin going about that. And Midna, she had all these powers, things he definitely did not have. Yes, she was right. He did need her, probably more then she needed him. At least that's what he thought.

"Well? What's your answer? I don't have all day, you know." He was broken from his thought by her question. He turned to the imp sprawled on his back, nodding his head. The smile on her face sent a shiver down his spine. "Good boy!" She leaned down, patting his head affectionately. "Come now, we're heading back to the forest..." Before he even got the chance to ask what she meant, he found himself fading away, before being sucked up into a black rift in the sky...

He felt like he was floating in a pool of inky darkness. His vision was completely gone. He couldn't feel anything almost, only a little tingle. Suddenly he spotted a light in the distance, and it was rapidly approaching. His eyes widened in shock before he was dumped unceremoniously into a spring. He stood up, shaking the water from his fur. Glancing around he realized that he had been transported to the spirit springs directly outside of Ordon Village. He looked up quickly, spotting the sun up in the blue skies, skies completely clear of twilight.

He knew that Midna promised to take him back, but he didn't know that she could teleport him just like that. And he was outside of the twilight too. But the joy quickly vanished when he realized that he was still in the form of a blue wolf. He thought it was the twilight that changed him, so why wasn't he normal again? He had a feeling the world was mocking him.

And another thing. Midna was gone. He looked around quickly, but couldn't find hide nor hair of her. That couldn't be right. She wouldn't just leave him alone like that, would she? He had no idea what to do without her.

No, no, she wouldn't leave him. She was his Master, so she said. He just entrusted himself to her, to do her bidding. She wouldn't leave him... How did he get into a situation like this? One day ago everything was normal, and now he has a 'Master' controlling his every whim. He didn't know how to feel about that. That didn't change the fact that he was suddenly alone, and that concerned him. When did he become so codependent?

Deciding that standing around wouldn't get him anywhere, he decided to leave the spring and head back to Ordon. On his way back he noticed that shadow felt off. Upon closer inspection it revealed that Midna was laying on his back, relaxing silently. He was concerned to say that he felt relieved to learn that she was still with him. He turned back to her, only to find that he was still alone. Now he was confused. Turning back to his shadow revealed that she was still there, but he couldn't see her.

"Miss me?" She asked from somewhere behind him, mirth filling her eyes. He felt himself blush under her gaze. So she knew that he had already grown some sort of attachment to her, and wasn't let him get away with some teasing. "I'm not leaving anytime soon, don't you worry." She reassured with a grin, patting him on the head. "I can't handle this 'sun' of yours, so I'm going to hide in your shadow for a while, hope you don't mind." She stated with a yawn, stretching across his back comfortably.

He frowned, before turning his attention back to the direction of his Village. He needed to at the very least check up on his people, to make sure they were safe. Midna had a feeling she knew what he was doing, and didn't stop him. She'd give him a moment before their journey really started. After that, then he was hers...

''Who knows, maybe he's exactly what I need..'' Midna silently speculated from atop his back. ''Heh, if not. Well, I've always been good at whipping others into exactly what I want.'' She giggled quietly...
