We start off with Dwayne Junior narrating.
The school system, the way it is set up, is useful for helping young kids achieve their goals. And, the students of Bronzestone high, look out for one another, and are willing to help others in danger. This is the dangerous sophomore year.
The tugs theme then plays.
Junior's POV
With the events that had just taken place at the hospital, I was emotionally destroyed. Before signing up for the Ridongculous race a few years back, I never once thought I would have a girlfriend. There was this minor crush that I had on Carrie, but it was nothing more than a crush, and I quickly got over it. Then I met Bertha, and oh my God, I had never been more happy with a person of the opposite gender, before we started dating. Now she was being unfairly taken away from me, when we still could have gone on for several more years. I thought this was something I wasn't going to recover from, I thought i'd be sad for the rest of my life
Reader's POV
Despite Junior's really depressed mood, he was still the best player on the baseball team, and Bronzestone was able to nab two more wins. Junior was the only one who wasn't happy about these wins, he'd be much more happy if he had his girlfriend to celebrate it with. When he got to his sixteenth birthday, he told his parents he'd be coming home late, as he was going to visit Bertha in the hospital after school. In between classes while the students were at their lockers, Wilson actually went up to talk to Junior. "Listen Junior, I know what you're going through right now, i'm going through the exact same pain" said Wilson. "You're not just about to lose a girlfriend, i'm about to lose a cousin."
Junior's POV
At that moment I realized that Wilson was taking this a lot harder, as he and Bertha were actually family. Up until this point, most of the interactions I saw between Wilson and Bertha, usually resulted in Bertha getting pissed off at Wilson about something. She kept herself under control, and always refrained from yelling at him. Deep down, I knew that Bertha loved Wilson, but I couldn't remember a single moment where I actually saw them hugging, despite the fact that they were blood relatives. Wilson obviously decided to come with me to the hospital, as they were family. What I did not expect when I arrived at the hospital, was my former crush from the race.
Reader's POV
Junior was absolutely shocked, to see Carrie standing right in front of him. "Oh, hello Carrie, I didn't think i'd be seeing you" said Junior. "I came here because I wanted to talk to you, about something very serious" said Carrie. "When I found out that you got yourself a girlfriend, I had my doubts." "I was genuinely worried that you were nothing more to Bertha than a celebrity crush." "That was until I found out that she actually saved your life." "Prior to this, I was actually worried that you were not over me, and I was going to have to friend zone you." "And given the circumstances that just happened, I know what you are going through." "I had to go through this exact same torture, while Devin was recovering from his cliff injury." "He went through hell in order to make a full recovery, with a decent 40% chance of death." "But I want to make something clear to you, if he didn't survive that fall, I still would have moved on with my life." "Bertha's health is pretty screwed up at the moment, and it's looking really bad." "But even if they are dead, the ones that we love will never leave us, as they will always be in out hearts."
Junior's POV
I realized at that moment, that Carrie was absolutely right. If Bertha didn't make it through this, she'd still be with me forever. While I was still crying while looking at her unconscious form lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to life support no less, I was smiling the entire time. I'm pleased to say, that I enjoyed the rest of my birthday with my family, along with Halloween. While I did realize that I had to move on, the upcoming school dance was going to be awkward without her as my dancing partner. But that is a story for another day.
Authors note: If you are somebody who currently has to deal with a loved one in critical condition, or one that has passed away, always remember that those people will never leave you, as long as you still love them.
"So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." John 16:22
Thank you for reading and please have a great day.
