Rick has been stuck in the cafeteria for 30 minutes, there's still no way of getting out of the hospital alive. He can hear the voices of the Matango in the hallway outside, their moaning sounds more like laughter, making his skin crawl. Rick can't handle this pressure anymore. His wife is still out there, in possible need of help, but he's trapped here, with no chance of escaping. Although he's safe from Godzilla, and those Mandas, he's still at the mercy of non-giant monsters that are just as capable of killing him.

Rick can hear the crowd gasping, something isn't right. He peeks over two men, discovering that George is the center of attention. Mushrooms are growing on his wounded arm, and they're starting to grow on his face. Rick is stunned by his appearance, unable to speak or move. He already knows what's happening to George, he just doesn't want to believe it.

"George," says Michael. "You were attacked by one of the patients that ate the mushrooms, right?"

"Yes." George replies in a deep, sickly voice.

"It seems the Matango are contagious." Michael concludes.

So, it is true, George is going to turn into one of those monsters. But there must be some way to stop the infection, maybe one of the fluids in the cafeteria could kill the Matango spores inside George. If not, then they could try to sneak out of here and grab medicine that could do the job. But none of this is going to work, Rick is blinded by the reality of the situation. George will become a Matango, and kill everybody in the room.

A gunshot frightens everyone, as George suddenly drops onto the floor. Rick's heart is racing, he slowly turns his head, facing the shooter. The man that shot George is a cop, who was possibly trying to escort people out of the hospital when the tsunami hit but was forced to go inside to avoid the waves. He killed George in self-defense, but Rick is now fueled with anger. That was his friend that just died, and he was killed by someone that wasn't even close to him.

"What the fuck!?" Ricks shouts with fury.

"Hey, I had to do it! He was going to become a creature and kill us all!" the cop responds.

"At least let me do it! You had no right to kill George!" Rick yells.

"Gorham, we had no other choice!" says Tobias.

"We didn't even get to say goodbye to George! He was our friend; it should have been one of us to pull the trigger!"

Rick is so full of rage, he begins banging his fists on a table, not caring if his knuckles are now bleeding. Tears start to fall from his eyes, unable to resist the urge to cry. He's startled by the doors banging, most likely from the Matangos now trying to get in the cafeteria. It seems there's no hope of escaping the hospital anymore. But Rick has had it with this hellhole, he and the rest of the survivors need to get out of here or die trying.

"I can't take it anymore. We need to leave." Rick announces.

"Gorham, we all want to escape, but we don't have a chance against those things." Tobias tells him.

"I'm sick of hiding! We need to fight our way out, especially since a cop is with us." Rick responds, pointing to the cop.

He's got to have plenty of bullets in his gun, but even then, he still needs back up. Rick spots a fire extinguisher on the wall, it's not lethal, but it can still come in handy.

"Who's with me?" he asks, as he grabs the extinguisher.

"Count me in." the cop replies.

"I'll take care of the door." says Michael, willing to fight back against the Matangos.

Tobias has nothing to say, but he does nod to Rick, accepting his plan. As Michael slowly walks towards the door, Rick and the cop follow him, with their weapons ready. The Matangos are still banging on the doors, all Michael needs to do is remove the broom between the handles, and once the doors are open, Rick and the cop will clear the way.

Michael takes the broom, allowing the Matangos to enter the cafeteria. Rick sprays them with the fire extinguisher, as the cop starts shooting. The Matangos are disoriented by the steam, and they seem to be easily affected by the bullets. Rick runs past the mushroom creatures, followed by Michael and the other survivors. There are still more Matango in the hallway, but the cop just shoots them, as Michael smacks them with the broom he still has. Rick is confronted by one Matango, he tries to defend himself, but the fire extinguisher is now empty. Instead, he uses it to bash the Matango, which leaves a serious injury on the creature.

Rick and the group make it onto the roof, the Matango are far behind, but they will catch up. Rick examines the group, realizing that Tobias is missing. One of the Matangos must have gotten him, or maybe he got separated and is currently hiding, hopefully it's the latter. Rick walks to the edge, looking down at the flooded city. Due to how high the water is, it should be safe to jump off the roof. However, there's Mandas lurking, as one swims past the building. Rick looks towards the other side of the roof, only to be met by the sight of Godzilla approaching the hospital. The other survivors panic, with a few of them jumping off the roof with no hesitation. Retreating back inside would be an alternative, if it weren't for the Matangos. But now the mushroom creatures have made it onto the roof, so jumping is the only way to escape both them and Godzilla.

"Get out of here, Rick!" Michael shouts to him.

"Wait, what about you!?" Rick asks, realizing he's approaching the Matangos.

"I'll keep them at bay, they can't leave this hospital!"

"Michael, come on! If Godzilla is looking to destroy this place, then he'll surely kill them!"

"And I need to make sure they don't survive! Now go already! You have a wife that needs you right now!"

That last comment is enough to make Rick run towards the edge, leaving Michael to hold off the Matangos so they never spread across the city. Before he jumps, Rick takes one glimpse at Godzilla, who is emitting rings from his mouth, ready to fire his atomic breath. Rick jumps off the roof, landing in the water. Once he surfaces, the hospital is blown up by Godzilla. It's unlikely the Matangos can withstand the heat of his atomic breath, they're gone for good. The Matango pandemic is over quickly as it began.

Rick swims as far from the destroyed hospital as he can, before he could be exposed to any radiation. But swimming in these waters is near impossible, as he keeps getting pushed under by the currents. He removes his lab coat, but it doesn't make the situation any better. Rick spots something floating, it's the decapitated head of a Manda, undoubtedly the work of Godzilla. Rick swims over to the head, climbing onto the snout. Lying on his back, soaking wet from all the saltwater, he breathes heavily, finally able to relax without worrying about something trying to kill him. Although this Manda head smells terrible, it's his safe haven for now. With the hospital destroyed, Rick is out of a job, but he can give less of a shit, what matters is that he's made it out, free from the imprisonment of those mushroom monsters. The only thing left is to find Natalie.
