Author's Notes: Well friends, me and Lord Primeval once again are visited by our old arch enemy…..REAL LIFE! But we prevail!
Chapter 12: Kong.
RRRRAAAAAAAA!
Gabara covered his ears after Zeke released his command roar to the fully regenerated Pure Titans. As he watched them slowly walk through the hole in the Elder Wall, he couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he looked at their expressions. One of their faces looked like he/she really needed to piss before it was transformed.
Then he winched as he heard a wet crunching sound. He looked to his left in disgust at the sight of his 'comrade' Gaira munching on a severed, bloodied arm. He couldn't tell what it was; a Marleyan or one of the natives. But he knew Gaira doesn't really care.
"You Two!"
The shifters looked at Nelson, approaching with Zeke by his side.
"Now listen up; you two are to stick with Yeager at all times while in the jungle, serve as his bodyguards and protect him from any monsters out there."
Gabara yawned.
"Oh please, he can handle himself. Why does he need us?"
BANG!
Gabara's answer came in the form of a bullet passing by his leg. The shock caused him to fall down as Nelson put his gun back in its holster.
"Let me make this as simple and clear to the both of you," Nelson glared at them. "You two are expendable, Zeke Yeager isn't. The moment you both were given these mockery of Titan abilities you've proven to be failures...or traitors."
Gabara slowly stood up and glared at the man.
"That last part was Sanda, not us you-"
BANG!
Gabara winched thinking that the bullet would it him this time, but it simply grazed his cheek.
"And the only thing keeping you two alive is that Mr. Yeager here still thinks you're both useful. Right now, I fail to see this" Nelson stated. "So, consider this proof of your continued existences. Assist him and bring Eren Yeager, alive."
Gabara glared at Nelson but kept quiet. Gaira gulped down the piece of flesh in his mouth.
"Wouldn't it be better if one of us eats Eren Yeager?" Gaira asked as he took another bite. "After all, if he has the-"
BANG!
This time Nelson shot at Gaira's food, causing the cannibal to drop his meat.
"Under no circumstances are either of you devour him!" Nelson shouted. "There's no telling if your experimental Titan forms would corrupt the powers of the Founder."
Zeke then spoke up.
"As such, your orders are two stay by me and assist with finding and keeping Eren alive, but no doubt he would have brought his friends with him, so you can kill them instead."
"But keep one of them alive," Nelson added. "We don't know why they're here and I'd very much like to know what those Devils want here."
Nelson turned to face Zeke as he put his gun away.
"But listen up, who knows how long one of those monsters might come sniffing around here. So, don't take your time!"
Zeke nodded.
"With this island of monsters, it'll be long before we find him. We'll be back by sun rise."
Nelson nodded.
"See that you do."
Zeke motioned Gabara and Gaira to follow him out of the opening. Gabara glared at him but followed him regardless while Gaira picked up the servered arm and continued to chew on it as he followed.
Meanwhile...
"Kong should be close by," Dayo said as she led the group with Moll and Lora behind her. Sanda and Mikasa were close by them with Eren, Randy, Armin and Jean behind.
"So, speaking of which, since no one is asking this, I'll volunteer," Randy started. "How is the big ape Mothra's guardian? And where did Konga come from?"
"Kong," Dayo corrected. "As for where he comes from, like my people he and his kind are inhabitants of Infant Island. When Mothra came to our island, she appeared before the Kongs. They were stunned and awed by her power and beauty that they swore an allegiance to her; to protect her, along with her followers."
"Well, obviously they didn't keep their oath," Eren replied bitterly.
Dayo ignored him but Moll and Lora glared at him.
"Eren, don't be rude!" They said at once.
The twins blinked in surprise as they once again talked in unison.
"Is this going to be a thing now?" Jean asked.
"Anyway," Dayo continued, "Once Mothra died at the hands of Ymir, Kong's people watched over her egg until she could be reawakened. But as the time passed by, they continued to wait until half of them were swayed by...another."
"Another...what?" Armin asked. "You mean something like Mothra?"
Dayo frowned.
"No."
Sanda gulped. "Y-y-y-you mean, like a D-d-d-devil?"
Dayo stayed quiet. Eren couldn't see her face, but he could sense a level of fear in her. It was as if she wished to speak, but it was a subject of taboo.
Eren tried to break the silence by skipping ahead in the conversation.
"Are there more Kongs on OUR side?" He asked.
"I...don't know," Dayo answered. "Stories always told of entire tribes of Thunder Guardians. With how big they are, I thought we'd see more."
Meanwhile...
Kong made his way halfway through the jungle by now. He thought distance would fade his temper, but now he was at his boiling point.
He roared in bestial frustration and flailed his arms into the large trees to his left, knocking them down and releasing a flock of disturbed pterosaurs into the air. The ape slammed his fist into the ground over a dozen times.
He kicked up mounds of earth and flung them into the sky, not even aware of any creatures that may or may not be in his way.
Yelling and thrashing, Kong began to undo what thousands of years nature took to build this patch of forest. Animals around him panicked.
Deer, herons, large lizards, monkeys, huge dragonflies, and even giant tree frogs fled from the overly emotional monster.
Eventually, he resulted to throwing rocks in any direction he could think of.
Finally, he wore himself out. Kong panted as he looked around the ruin around him. He looked out towards the rising sun ahead, able to see it more clearly without the mess of trees in his way.
Stepping closer to the sunrise he notices the cliff side in front of him, a clear view of the beach on the far-off side of the island.
The sight left Kong stunned.
He remembered that very spot from his childhood. There were others like him once. On that beach his tribe would dip their feet in the sand as the young ones splashed in the ocean.
Mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers. The shore would be overrun with giant apes. His mother's favorite spot was by a large stone, giving her shade.
Kong's eyes teared up as memories of napping on his mother's stomach as she stayed cool.
His father would wrestle other males in friendly competition as the young frolicked.
He wished he had more days with them on that beach.
The longer he stared the worse the memories flowed. He closed his eyes, but it was too late. The images of another tribe of Kongs rushed into his head. They ambushed his family, beating younger apes to death.
He remembered the blood that covered the invaders' fur like some kind of warpaint. They were strong, enough to tear arms off of the beach going apes. Some used stones to bash in skulls. Others were content to just bite into throats. Fists and thunderbolts flew from both sides as they fought for their lives.
Kong saw it all from his mother's arms as she ran into the jungle to escape the savages. His father was far behind her, pinned to the ground by a larger male holding a large rock. The little primate didn't even see what happened next since he closed his eyes before hearing that bone crunching sound.
His mother ran for an hour before finding a hollowed log large enough for the young one to be placed in. She placed him inside, gesturing her son to stay here, perhaps with the intention of getting help...
She never returned.
Coming back to the present, he collapsed onto his knees. Kong foolishly thought he had found another creature like him, unable to understand what Sanda truly was. All that mattered was his disappointment.
Behind him while he sulked came Komodithrax, holding a large insect in her mouth. Unfortunately, the arm she grabbed back at the Elder Wall disintegrated halfway to this spot, so she had to grab another meal.
She saw the carnage around the area that once was her home. With shock and horror, she saw the spot where her nest once was. Massive trees and rubble lay on top of it while yolk oozed down from the mess.
Komodithrax glared at the downtrodden gorilla, the only animal in the area. Maternal instinct kicked in and she lunged forward, pouncing on Kong's back. He snapped out of his emotional state and grabbed hold of her neck, preventing her from biting his face.
Kong let out sparks of electricity from his hands, but only enough to cause mild pain until the charge died out. This wasn't good. The counter attack against the horde of Titans earlier drained him. He'd have to survive this encounter with pure brute force.
Komodithrax coiled her tail around Kong's leg, pulling it forward and tripping him. The primate fell to the ground and rolled with his opponent.
Meanwhile, with the others...
BOOM!
The ground shook a little, almost catching the group off guard.
"What's happing now? An earthquake?!" Randy asked.
BOOM!
Dayo looked ahead.
"Nope, it's Kong."
BOOM!
"Is he attacking something?" Armin asked.
"Sounds to me like he's having a temper tantrum," Jean guessed.
Suddenly, a loud hissing rang out in the distance.
"No, it's a fight!" Eren said.
Everyone drew their blades and darted towards the sound of combat. After a short run, they found the arena were the two colossi rumbled.
"NO!" Dayo shouted, "We need him alive!"
The group quickly turned, seeing the Komodithrax. Acting quickly, Sanda transformed and charged at the kaiju while Jean, Armin, and Mikasa scattered.
"Wait!" Dayo cried out to them. "Don't attack near the mouth, they spit out flames."
As if on cue, Komodithrax opened her jaws and coated Sanda's body in blue flames while keeping Kong Pinned.
As Sanda used his arms to try and shield himself from the flames, he failed to notice Komodithrax striking him with her tail and knocking him down.
Instead of continuing her attack the reptile kaiju roared at Sanda. Thanks to Dayo's warning, Jean, Armin and Mikasa used their gear to hook onto some of the trees still standing while Eren managed to activate his own gear to join the others, landing near Armin.
"Sanda, are you alright?!" Armin shouted.
Sanda felt the ribs in his Titan body were cracked and his parts of his flesh and hair were burned but he gave the group a thumbs up while keeping his eyes on the kaiju.
Komodithrax ignored the Titan as she returned to her attempt to kill Kong.
Sanda grabbed hold of her by the chest, trying to pry the reptile off of Kong. Jean, Mikasa, and Armin used their gear to dart around her scaly body. They attacked Komodithrax by the feet and face, attempting to assist Sanda by going for sensitive areas and preventing her from spewing more flames.
Eren was ready to the transform, but once again paused due to Mikasa being close by. To add to that he heard the sound again.
As he listened, it sounded like a drumbeat. Another feeling came over him, telling him to transform right now…and kill.
"Uh, Moll?" Randy said looking at the twins. "Aren't you going to start swinging in and helping them out? Though personally I wouldn't go charging at something that breathes fire, but I thought you guys would be used to dealing with stuff like this?"
Moll saw Eren standing with his hands on his head, not joining in the fight. Komodithrax's tail was swinging dangerously close to him.
She activated her 3D gear and zoomed in to grab Eren, just in time to avoid the tons of scaly flesh crashing to the ground he once stood.
Due to the speed and momentum gathered, the two of them spiraled out of control, straight into the pile of rummage that was Komodithrax's nest. They flew into a gap, tumbling down into a pile of egg yolk and plant matter.
"Are you alright?" Moll asked.
"I... don't know." Eren, said getting back on his feet.
"More voices?" Moll said.
"Not this time," he replied. "It's more like a calling. I think something else is on this island, something powerful. I don't-"
"You think it's Mosura?" Moll replied.
Eren winced a little at the name, but tried to answer.
"Maybe. I don't know for sure. But whatever it is, I think it might have something to do with the Founding Titan. I feel like it's tearing me apart from the inside."
"That explains the attitude lately," she said. "I don't know if I can trust what Dayo says myself, but we need to keep our heads together and trust each other. Here, let me take a quick look in that brain of yours. I might find-"
"Hold on," He interrupted. "Listen."
Moll stood in silence for a moment. Then she heard it: a slow, chirping sound.
The two cleared branches away as they dug in the direction of the sound.
They found the source of the noise; a single un- crushed egg. It managed to survive Kong's accidental onslaught. Inside, a newborn was struggling to emerge from the shell.
"This must be what the fight's all about," Moll said.
Eren suddenly got an idea. He climbed his way up the smashed nest, looking for an opening. Eventually, he found a reasonably sized gap. He looked out, in view of the struggle going on between Titan Shifter, human, and lizard.
Eren pulled out his flare gun and fired, aiming at the Komodithrax. It didn't hit her, but flew close enough to her left eye to cause temporary blindness.
This gave enough of a distraction for Kong to flip the reptile off of him and onto her back. As the two fought, Sanda took notice of the smoke trail coming from the nest. He rushed over and began to remove the rubble piece by piece.
He found Eren and Moll underneath.
"Quick, get this to the monster!" Eren yelled, pointing to the egg.
Sanda didn't need long to realize what was going on. Carefully, he lifted the egg in his Titan hands.
Before Komodithrax could roast Kong again before he stood back up, she saw what Sanda was holding. All of her attention was on that one round treasure as she approached.
Kong was about to strike, until Dayo intervened.
'Hold, Thunder Guardian!' She said psychically, 'She isn't after you.'
He stood his ground and watched. Sanda slowly placed the egg onto the earth and backed away. Komodithrax stared at it, gazing at her offspring was clawing its way into the world. By this point, the rest of the group stood down.
The reptile lowered her head as the baby freed itself from the egg. The newborn crawled onto its mother's head, holding on tight.
No longer caring about the others, the mother Kaiju ran off into the forest with child in tow.
"So, it attacked Kong because he was near her nest?" Armin asked once he landed on his feet.
"Makes sense to me," Randy said. "But just to ask: are there any other nests nearby we should know about?"
Before Dayo could answer, she saw Kong looking at them with an exaggerated expression.
Without an opponent to distract him it was easier to notice Sanda's Titan Form.
'Maybe if he sees me alive, he would help us.' He thought to himself.
Sanda started walking towards Kong, but the giant ape grabbed a tree trunk and slammed it hard on the ground near Sanda. He roared at him, making Sanda back off.
"What's wrong? Shouldn't the big guy be happy?" Randy asked.
"Maybe he's realizing that Sanda isn't like him at all?" Mikasa guessed.
She was half right. Kong's head was swirling with conflicting emotions; combat adrenaline, sadness, disappointment, and anger.
Eren, Armin, Jean, and Mikasa raised their blades in case the ape let his rage out on them.
"No, put them away!" Dayo shouted at them. "You'll only anger him further!"
Moll and Lora ignored what everyone else is doing and focused on ape. As they looked up at him they sensed his anger and sadness. The twins watched as Sanda got up and raised his arms up to try and calm Kong, but Kong started beating his fists on the ground.
'Calm him.'
The twins let a small gasp they heard a voice in their minds. Instead of asking who or what it was, they suddenly remembered a song that their mother once sung to them.
Moll grabbed Lora's hand as they walked up to Kong.
Moll and Lora: Shiawase yobi ni yukou natsukashī shima e (Let's look for happiness. At the sweet old island.)
Everyone, with the exception of Dyao, looked at the twins confused. Why they hell are those two singing at a time like this?!
"Hey!" Jean shouted noticing that they are heading towards Kong. "What are you two-"
"Quiet," Dayo said.
Her voice was soft but stern as she pointed at Kong, whose eyes looked down on the twins and his scorn dying down.
Moll and Lora: Harukana ano sora to tokeau umi de (Faraway the sky where the ocean meets.)
Sanda looked down as the twins passed him. He reached out to Moll trying to stop her, but as he listened to their song, he could not bring himself to stop them.
Moll and Lora: Shiawase yo naze naku no. (Why the happiness is crying)
Hohoemi o wasurezu ni shiawase o yobou (Do not forget to smile, let's look for happiness.)
Kong took several deep breaths as his anger started to slowly die. He kneeled before them, lowering his head as he closed his eyes, a memory came to him.
Moll and Lora: Shiawase yobi ni yukou natsukashī shima e (Let's look for happiness. At the sweet old island.)
He remembered being in that log for days, seeing bodies everywhere when finally venturing out into the night. His fur soaked from the heavy rain pouring down on him. He remembers crying out, but no one answering him.
Moll and Lora: Harukana ano sora to tokeau umi de (Faraway the sky where the ocean meets.)
He ran into jungle trying to escape the rain. At his size, the forest looked dangerous. With no mother or father to protect him it was left to chance whether he would live or die.
Moll and Lora: Shiawase yo naze nayamu (Happiness, why are you sad?)
Eventually, he entered a strange cave. He walked past a large stone hall. Through it he found a huge chamber, in front of him a large blue egg. He remembered feeling calm, safe here with this object as he hugs it, feeling a kind warmth.
Moll and Lora: Soyokaze to kumo ni noru shiawase o yobou (Riding on the breeze and crowd. Let's look for happiness.)
A large hand was placed on his shoulder. Frightened, young Kong jumped backwards. He turned around, looking at the one responsible: a large, gray-furred ape.
It was the egg's guardian. He looked down at the young one curiously with old, withered eyes. Kong was terrified. He thought this one was going to kill him like his parents. But that never happened.
Instead, the older gorilla took hold of Kong's small hand and placed it on the gigantic eggshell. The little one could feel a heartbeat from the other side.
He was too little to understand what was going on, but he felt safe here.
As the memory ended, Kong opened his eyes, feeling gentle touch of the twin's hands on his snout as Moll and Lora looked at Kong with caring smiles.
"Wow," Randy broke the silence. "You two would make a killing in the music business."
"Our mother sang that song to us when we were little," Moll said removing her hand from Kong.
"She sang it to us whenever we were frightened," Lora said, doing the same.
Kong slowly stood up. He looked at Sanda, his face no long showing anger or sorrow. He nodded to him. For some reason Sanda felt it was sign telling him that Kong wasn't mad at him anymore, nor did it look like he cared at all.
Kong turned his sight at the group. He eyed everyone, mainly at Eren, and let out a small growl of disapproval. He huffed, then slowly turned around and started walking.
"Now where's he going?" Jean asked. He was getting tired of Kong's mood swings.
"He's taking us to Mothra," Moll and Lora said in unison.
"Ok, will two PLEASE stop talking at once?" Jean asked. "It's kind of creepy."
"Enough," Dayo stated. "We have to go now."
Moll and Lora nodded, following close behind Kong. With them in the lead, Sanda (still in his Titan form) followed by Dayo, Randy and a reluctant Jean. Armin and Mikasa were about to follow when Eren grabbed their arms.
"Wait," Eren said. "Are we really going through with this? I mean, what if this is all some kind of trap?"
"Eren, you heard the words," Armin said. "After seeing what Moll and Lora are going through maybe this could-"
"Could what, Armin?" Eren said in a hostile tone, "Solve all our problems? Even if that's true what could a bug do that Godzilla couldn't?!"
"Eren," Mikasa said sternly. "Enough. If Moll and Lora are doing this then there must be a good reason. If they have faith in this…Mothra, then we should at least try."
"But we'll keep our guard up," Armin assured him. "Just stay close to us, okay?"
Eren looked at them trying to find an argument but he couldn't, so he except defeat.
As Eren followed behind he heard the sound of the drum again. He thought to himself to tell Armin and Mikasa.
'Silence.'
Eren heard a voice, instead of alerting the others of this….he kept quiet.
Meanwhile, out at sea...
The cargo ship barely tossed about on the open waters as the moonlight danced on the surface of the ocean.
The captain looked onward, glad to be on his way back home, as far away from Infant Island as possible. He hated dealing with Nelson on a regular basis. He hated being this far out from the safety of Marley during a supposed ''monster crisis."
But with any luck, the higher-ups won't need anything more from the island. Maybe.
He took out his telescope, taking a look ahead. Everything looked alright. Well, except for...
Taking a second look, he spotted flashes in the sky far off. Adjusting the lens, he saw a large storm cloud. It wasn't like any he'd seen in twenty-three years on this job. Its electric charges seemed to coalesces in a single spot, but its speed was way off. Just looking at it gave him a chill down his spine, as if what he saw was forbidden in some way.
Either way it had to be avoided. Luckily, it was distant enough to prepare for evasive action.
"CAPTAIN! MONSTER SPOTTED ON THE STARBOARD!"
Hearing his lookout, the Captain ran to the other window, spotting the massive object heading towards them.
His crew panicked as the thing came close enough to see in detail.
Anguirus.
The Captain was about ready to order all hands to open fire on the monster, but then to his shock instead of ramming towards them. Instead, he swam next to it. Everyone held on as the ship rocked from the waves coming from the swimming kaiju as it finally passed them.
The Captain observed the kaiju, quickly realizing that Anguirus was making a B-line to the opposite direction.
The Captain turned to his crewmen."HURRY! That thing is headed to Infant Island, radio Nelson at once!"
After a quick salute the men ran inside to do just that. The Captain observed Anguirus continuing his journey.
"Captain," his first mate called out. "It's no use! The storm is interfering with the signal! We can't get through!"
"Very well," the Captain sighed. "Batten down all hatches. Prepare for rough waters!"
"Yes sir!"
"Damn it," He cursed. "What else could go wrong?"
As if to answer him, the storm began to pick up speed. Its shadow blacked the sky as it covered the moon. The night became darker than most of the crew had ever seen, broken only by brief flashes of lightning buried in the massive cloud.
Slowly, a bluish hue filled the area. The Captain knew it was unnatural. He searched for the source, looking down. Too late he saw the light coming from beneath the ship.
As Anguirus continued onward to his destination, he didn't witness the ship behind him explode into flames as a beam erupted underneath it. As the beam died down, three rows of sharp jagged spikes rose from the sea like a shark's fin and slowly followed the direction where Anguirus was headed.
GYAOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNN!
Author's Note: Well pretty dramatic for Kong huh, you guys can thank Lord Primeval for that scene. Now the next chapter I will try to make it a little short and the reason why is that we are almost finished with this story, but the real reason why the next one is short is simple…She. Will. Awake.
