Chapter Twenty-Eight: Rage of a Demon Lord
Blurred adrenaline rushed through his veins, turning his blood cold, heating his vision, and distorting his expression.
In his own home, surrounded by guards and demons meant to protect, his favorite little kit was taken. He didn't linger on the fact that Naraku was under his nose. No, all that matter was that he had taken her. A sweet young fox who had been through too much in her short life. She did not deserve to be dragged into the mess Naraku had created, and Sesshomaru was a fool for ever leaving her alone.
For bringing her into his home.
Introducing her to Rin.
Most of all, he failed to protect a single life, which to him meant he was no good as a demon, as a lord. He should have learned his lesson when Rin was kidnapped by the wind witch, but against his better judgement he brought one more victim into Naraku's web.
Well, if Naraku wanted to get Sesshomarus attention, he had gotten it.
With all the rage of a Demon Lord swelling within him, Naraku would get exactly what was coming to him.
"Damn it all," Inuyasha grasped, holding tightly onto Kagome while he struggled to chase after the while blur of his older brother. "What the hell is going on here?" Each breath burned through his lungs like fire, his ribs squeezing his lungs with each pant. No one knew how to answer him.
Through the shock of seeing Sesshomaru in such an unbridled rage, they neglected to truly grasp the situation. He crashed through the battlefield like a whirlwind, and dashed away just as quickly.
Not even Koga is that fast... Kagome mused to herself, her eyes never tearing away from the white blur in front of them. Whatever was going on inside Sesshomarus head, it was clear enough that it involved Naraku. Above them was Kagura and Kohaku, only a hairs width in front of Sesshomaru leading them into what could only be the den of Naraku.
"I smell him," Kagome could feel the growl rising in Inuyasha through his back. She gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze and tightened her grip on her bow. Shippo clung to her shoulder, hiding his small face in her neck and hair, unable to withstand Inuyasha's attempt to catch up.
Kirara, Sango, and Miroku trailed behind them, struggling to keep up with them. As for Jakken and Rin? Sesshomaru's most loyal followers?
The demon lord didn't even acknowledge them. As soon as he got whatever information he needed from Kohaku he was off. No one else seemed to exist to him, and yet it didn't stop the imp and human girl to follow behind him. They were safely behind everyone else, straddled onto the twin-headed dragon Ah-Uhn, a serious look on the imps face. Out of everyone, he seemed to know more about what was going on. The light in his bulbous eyes shimmering with understanding, detirmination, perhaps even pride.
Whatever he was feeling, Kagome seemed to know that something big was about to happen. And then she heard it.
Piercing through the rushing wind, a blood curdling scream filled the air. Birds flapped and flew off, the sound startling the wild life from their homes. The tree line suddenly broke, and in a barren clearing was a large estate, oozing with the thick miasma of Naraku.
A sudden intense pressure followed the scream, forcing Inuyasha to stop in his tracks and for Kirara to follow.
"What the hell?" Breathless, Inuyasha's amber gaze stared forward, as his half-brother rushed the castle. White fur blurred his vision, but he knew.
Sesshomaru was serious, and ready to kill.
AUTHOR NOTE
Yoooooo, been a while. I hope you all have been doing well despite everything going on these past two years. Its December 31st, 2021 right now,
Its been a long time since I've posted, and even though I've been absent, I haven't forgotten this story. In fact I think a lot more about it that I'd like to admit haha.
I've had a rough two years. Rather i've had too many years of struggles. 2021 being no different, and I'm sure 2022 will be just as difficult for me.
I'm not giving up on this story. I may not be able to write like i used to, or as much as I used to, but I will finish this story. If not for me, then at least for you readers, who still read this, follow it, favorite it. Whatever it is that you do. I haven't given up yet, no matter how much I've been struggling.
Please Enjoy and wait with bated breath for the final chapter.
Until next time.
Stay beautiful!
